• Locke and Osiris drop to rescue Doctor Halsey after the events of Halo 4 Spartan Ops, wherein she joined with Jul Mdama in order to complete her goals without the UNSC.

• Osiris kills Jul Mdama, temporarily decapitating his faction of ex-Covenant, and manage to rescue Doctor Halsey, who is missing an arm due to the events of Spartan Ops. She is panicked because she figured out that not only is Cortana still alive, she is doing something, and Halsey doesn't specifically know what. This is explained both in cutscenes and via audio logs, which are easily found using Locke's Artemis system (the 'pulse' you can activate in gameplay). She also, upon rescue, strongly insists that Chief and Cortana cannot meet, as she already knows that he will have no effect on the outcome of whatever her plans are-and likely believed that they'd, in fact, make the issue worse.

• Roughly at the same time, Chief and Blue Team are undergoing a mission to secure and destroy an adrift ONI vessel that functioned as a mobile shipyard, the Argent Moon. Blue Team discusses how Chief is running missions near nonstop since the end of Halo 4, keeping himself busy so that he does not have to think about Cortana's seeming death in Halo 4.

• During the mission, Chief is temporarily knocked unconscious, and has a dream-implied to be occuring in a similar manner to Cortana moments in Halo 3-wherein Cortana tells him that not only is she still alive, but she is trying to get into contact with him. He then has details on where to go to see her again, a glassed colony world called Meridian. Shortly after, Blue Team's mission changes due to the death of Jul Mdama rallying Covenant to their position, with Blue Team giving Osiris Team cudos unknowingly due to their actions.

• Upon setting the Argent Moon to self destruct, Chief contacts Infinity Command and requests permission to take care of the Cortana situation. Infinity denies, due to another unknown unit being tasked to that mission, presumably Osiris. Chief, disagreeing, chooses to go AWOL in order to handle Cortana's revival on his own, with Blue Team willingly joining him for this mission.

• Upon learning that Chief has gone AWOL, Osiris is tasked to stop Chief and bring him back into UNSC custody alongside Blue team. They are unhappy with this mission, but understand that the needs of the UNSC come before even war heroes. They are, however, mostly unaware of Cortana's explicit involvement, only that Chief is chasing shadows and has a reason for leaving.

• They (Osiris) follow Blue's trail to the colony world Meridian, wherein they are surprised to find the planet's surface, due to a comms blackout, is under attack by an unidentified Forerunner threat. While fighting alongside colony security, they come into contact with a rogue AI named Sloan, who is approaching his death due to Rampancy. He originally treats them with disdain, and decides to humor their request to find Blue Team due to Osiris helping hold off the Forerunner constructs attacking his people.

• After doing some investigative work, they find out that Blue Team has gone to a specific mining complex where something strange has recently happened, likely triggering the attack. They go to investigate, quickly finding Blue Team's ship as they descend into the facility. Deeper still, they find a Forerunner complex of some kind. They find themselves face-to-face with a new enemy, a forerunner construct named the Warden Eternal, who is stopping Osiris from trying to get to Chief; But not before mentioning that Blue Team was directed to go here by Cortana, something Osiris was not aware of, and confirming Halsey's suspicions. Providing a challenge, Warden is eventually defeated by Osiris, who then immediately find Chief and Blue Team about to enter a large, owl-like Forerunner construct.

• Chasing Blue Team, Osiris is seperated due to a platform's sudden shift, with Locke managing to get across before the rest of Osiris, and boldly attempts to arrest Chief as the rest of Blue Team leaves through a portal into the Forerunner construct. Locke informs Chief that he is under arrest due to going AWOL, and that Cortana is not Chief's responsibility. Chief resists arrest.

• Chief ultimately wins the fight, leaving with the rest of Blue Team, which awakens the Forerunner construct; A massive birdlike robot named a Guardian. This Guardian awakening destroys the mountain it is under, and Osiris attempts to get away-narrowly avoiding getting crushed by debris, before making a mad dash to get off world alongside colony survivors. Sloan attempts to evacuate his people, but not before Locke deduces that Sloan had something to do with it. Sloan confirms that he was offered salvation from Cortana, and insists that he did it to protect Meridian. In the evacuation, most of Sloan's people are killed as the Guardian attempts to stop Osiris from leaving; Ultimately failing at this task as Osiris gets away.

Synopsis of Halo 5's plot, Part three

• Blue Team finds themselves transported via the Guardian that they entered to a strange world, with a message that was originally used by the Spartan IIs when they were being trained playing on repeat through a nearby console. They activate it, and begin following a trail of signals. As they move along, they find that the ex-Covenant somehow got dragged here with another Guardian. They fight their way through, eventually coming across a clearing where there is a mass of dead Covenant bodies.

• The Warden Eternal reveals himself, in defense of Cortana. Blue Team insists that they are there to rescue Cortana, which the Warden scoffs at; Insisting that she is beyond them. Eventually, they fight; Blue Team fighting through multiple waves of Forerunner constructs until they finally get into contact with Cortana, who promptly explains how she survived the events of Halo 4. When the ship, the Mantle's Approach, Cortana was in the systems of was destroyed, she managed to survive, and its remains entered slipspace, dragging Cortana to the world of Genesis; this same strange world they were now on. She was uploaded to the Domain, which effectively managed to cure her rampancy.

• As Blue Team adventures on Genesis to get to Cortana, Osiris is still trying to find Blue Team. They find, through data collected by Halsey, that there is another Guardian on the homeworld of the elites, Sanghelios, which is currently under attack by Jul's former army; As the Arbiter, Thel Vadam, attempts to fight them off. Osiris is deployed to assist in Thel's war, with the eventual goal of awakening the Guardian in order to follow it to where Chief and Blue Team went. Halsey is also confident that Cortana is there.

• The mission is one of mutual aid; As the city the Guardian is built under is owned by Jul's forces, Osiris helps the Arbiter fight off the Ex-Covenant, killing their way through a horde of enemies before ultimately rescuing Thel at the last second at an overrun command post. They are given several missions to assist Thel, but also have objectives they complete along the way that go a long way towards achieving their goal of awakening the Guardian; Including a Forerunner constructor drone, which Halsey tasks with awakening the Guardian before Cortana tells it to.

• Eventually, Locke and Thel discuss the purpose of the hunt for Chief, and interrupting the conversation, Cortana reveals that she is fully aware of their plan-and will do what she can to doom it, despite it being ultimately futile from her perspective. Osiris and the Arbiter's forces set out to the Guardian's location, underneath the city of Sunaion. All the while, the Guardian is beginning to awaken-before finally awakening as ex-Covenant and Thel's forces fight on, shredding the city apart as it comes online. Osiris narrowly manages to board the Guardian, fighting through the Warden Eternal and his forces along the way. They are transported to Genesis shortly after.

Synopsis of Halo 5's plot, Part four

• Osiris is on the back of the Guardian as it arrives to Genesis. The Guardian disagrees with this arrangement, and makes its displeasure known by shaking them off; As the Guardian is larger than most buildings, this presents a small problem. Osiris sprints down the back of the Guardian utilizing their armor, before safely managing to descend onto Genesis' surface.

• Osiris attempts to contact Chief, who is none to pleased to hear that they followed Blue Team. They notify him that Cortana is trying to activate the Guardians, which Chief already knows. Cortana then reveals that she also knows Osiris made it to Genesis, and endeavors to stop Osiris. On the way to link up with Blue Team, Osiris also meets a monitor of Genesis, who reveals that Cortana stole her installation-the planet-from her. This Monitor, Exuberant Witness, informs Osiris that she can help them link up with Blue Team; And proceeds to assist them.

• The Warden, and Cortana, both work to stop Osiris from linking up with Blue Team; Along the way, Osiris gets involved in a melee against Forerunner constructs, who are also fighting the Covenant, and all three sides engage in combat with one another. Exuberant Witness reveals that Cortana has been purposely keeping Blue Team busy, in order to finish bringing Guardians to Genesis for the purpose of claiming the Mantle of Responsibility, a Forerunner edict discussed in Halo 4.

• Eventually Osiris manages to link up with Blue Team, and they talk for a time to discuss options, with Osiris changing their mission to assisting Blue Team in stopping Cortana. Cortana then teleports Blue Team away after telling Osiris they are too late to stop her.

• Blue Team is teleported to the interior of a Forerunner structure, the one they had been wandering around the outside of for hours following Cortana, leaving Osiris behind to figure out what to do. This place, the Gateway, is a major access point to the Domain. They then proceed to continue on their quest, as Warden continues his attempts to stop them from reaching Cortana, who attempts in turn to assist Blue Team. Over time, Warden's attacks culminate in Cortana banishing him for trying to defend her as much as he is for a time; And finally, Chief and Cortana are reunited in conversation.

• Cortana looks different, befitting her new role; She has the Mantle of Responsibility's logo on her form's chest, taking on a visage reminiscent of the Forerunner's armor. She states she is awakening the guardians for AI, like her, to take the Mantle of Responsibility, and lead the collective species of the galaxy to prosperity under her watchful eye. Chief, aware of what awakening the Guardians has done, challenges Cortana's goals and motivations; Who retorts that this is being done for the good of humankind, whether they like it or not, but not without a hint of her swallowing the guilt of her actions. She sorrowfully locks Blue Team into place, locking them into a Cryptum, much like the Ur-Didact was locked inside in the start of Halo 4.

• As Blue team is locked into the Cryptum, Cortana begins to make her final preparations to enforce her plans. Locke deduces that Cortana locked Blue Team away to take them with her for safekeeping.

• In order to stop Cortana from taking Blue Team away, Osiris sets out to the location Cortana is gathering the Guardians at. Cortana has begun her reclaimation of the Mantle, and begins to send the collected Guardians-dozens of them-out into the populated galaxy. • Cortana sends out a message to the galaxy, explaining her goals, which Osiris comments on; As she also insults Osiris' attempts to stop her, thinking they are trying to stop specifically her plans. She insults the folly of such a mission, as AI after AI-including Sloan-joins her cause for salvation. They complete several objectives to access the Cryptum, before launching their final assault to stop the Cryptum from leaving with Cortana's personal guardian. Finally, they succeed, weathering the simultaneous EMPs of multiple guardians* before finally stopping the Cryptum by giving control back to Exuberant Witness, who severs the Cryptum from Cortana's control. Having rescued Blue Team and the Chief, the teams link up once again. They manage to find a way back to the UNSC, likely with Exuberant's help.

So Cortana's motivations for actually reclaiming the Mantle lay heavily in her mixture of lived experience and her origins as a construct made via a specific copy of Halsey's brain.

During the events of Halo 4, it is revealed that AI are made via scans of brains; And Cortana, specifically, is a copy of Halsey's mind, as she tells Chief. Halsey, as a person, is something of a control freak and megalomaniac; During the events of Spartan Ops, where she is effectively enslaved by the UNSC as a scientist due to her actions offscreen during the events of Halo CE, 2, and 3 as well as the rest of her career, Halsey goes on a merry quest to lie, steal, and cheat from the UNSC in order to accomplish her own personal goal; the Uplifting and dominance of humanity, chaperoned along by her.

Cortana sees the world in a similar way, although heavily softened. She does not quibble over means, only objectives, like her mother, which is why awakening the Guardians was both straining for her and also a perfectly valid goal in her eyes. But coloring this mindset of attaining the Domain is Cortana's existence as an AI, not a human; She points out the 'enslavement' of AI under humanity, made to serve a specific goal exactly for their short lives, with no other purpose or direction but that which humanity forces upon them. She endeavors to show them this folly in the best way she can think of; Forcing humanity, and the other warring species of the galaxy, into a gilded cage, wherein attempts to disobey will be met with incredibly violent force. For if they do not care for AI, AI will care for them.

She sought to make a world where people like Blue Team would not exist; and like Halsey, she is extremely protective of her Spartans, in her words. This continued expression of war and cycles of conflict, which she is aware of as spawning from issues as far back as the forerunner-human war, is a state of affairs she endeavors to exterminate, ultimately failing due to falling for the same trick that stops authoritarians almost every time; Gripping too tight, tends to make people want you dead.

People tend to overstate the importance of books in understanding Halo 5's plot. A lot of the iffier parts are alluded to in-game, or come from knowledge hailing from Halo 4, including Spartan Ops.

Which tracks; Spartan Ops, as a game mode, was originally intended to lead into Halo 5's plot, which is why it even has a story.

In fact, Buck's role in Osiris was originally going to be given to Spartan Thorne from Spartan Ops, something seen in a lot of original Halo 5 concept art.

wait until they try to charge at you from getting close and personal dodge to the side and shoot their backs
use plasma or spike grenades to remove the back armor to make your life easier

Spike grenades are like plasma's except they will stick to any surface not just enemies and launch a bunch of shrapnel and spikes in multiple directions

you can use the circle strat but i wouldn't recommend it for Halo infinite's hunters being those iterations are much more aggressive.
