Initially, I was dismissing this link because the real bright-line start to the Great Recession (Lehman Bros collapse) and H3 release were a year apart.

But actually now that I'm thinking about it, you said "nostalgia" which is extremely powerful. Looking back on "the good times"--perhaps representated for many by the great fun with H3 in recent memory--would add a big shine to those memories beyond fact.

I personally experienced this with Assassin's Creed Odyssey. It's a solid game, but for me it has become exalted in my lifetime pantheon of games, because it was my escape in the months after Dad passed away suddenly. Escape and nostalgia are powerful embellishers of memory.

And I see over the course of me writing this, others have stated the above much better and more succinctly lol.
