i actually wrote the opposite of this for a hypothetical halo thing once

i didnt vibe with the halo show and was thinkin about how i would write it if i were in charge, and one of my (not very good) ideas was a retelling of CE but with a bunch of changes because the gameplay would be boring if followed exactly

and when Chief crashed on Halo, instead of everyone dying one marine survived but couldnt move, so Chief attached the marine to his back (using his magnetic weapon storage) and ran around with a guy on his back

So like Chewie with C3PO in Empire Strikes back, only this time it's someone who would actually be useful

the point was to show (not tell) chief's character: when given the choice between dodging a covenant dropship and getting away unseen at the cost of a single barely conscious marine, or staying behind and risking death to save him. chief would choose to save him

the marine would be unable to move, and barely able to shoot. it is purely a drawback, saving him is a risk. but chief is the kinda guy who never leaves a soldier behind

The fact that it would be so in character for him to stay back and save him is why I love mister chief so much

the whole scene was built around that concept, covenant chasing chief across the bridge, the banshees firing overhead, and the patrol at the end of the cliff shooting chief from all sides. that normally wouldnt be a problem, and in game its not a difficult encounter. but every shot that hits him risks killing the marine, it adds tension to an otherwise boring encounter in the game

not that the encounter in the game is boring, the wonder of halo is still fresh in the players mind and things like banshees and dropships are a new thing

but its still a fairly standard combat encounter, in a game thats going to last around 8 more hours with very similar scenarios all throughout, so the marine strapped to chief's back would help this stand out as a part of the show a viewer doesnt skip to get to the "good part"
