Pre-ordering's main incentive has always been getting the game as soon as its available. For physical, it makes sure the place you buy it from doesn't run out of stock leaving you waiting. For digital, you get to pre-download to play as soon as possible.

That's all they need. The old Halo 3 matchmaking system only needed a few games to place you appropriately as well.

My team once won 30 matches in a row on Halo 3 Team Slayer, some of our opponents were not easy. We only got to Rank 7 🤣 then we lost and when we started winning again, we actually climbed the ranks

I get there's a ton of factors, it's just weird that I can climb to Gold 6 in Infinite, then go on a losing streak that brings me down to Gold 4 when all my matches, beside maybe 1, I was MVP.

I want to say the ranks are bell curved out of all of the players who have played that season. It's super possible you won't advance too far if there are that many players who are performing better than you above you in rank.

Have to really tooth and claw your way up. Glad I did it once in Season 0 and called it good.

I got a little sour this season when I got ranked plat 5 out of the gate. I stuck around in 3 matches that were 2v4, didn’t know quitting at that point wouldn’t effect my rank

OG Halo 3 on the Xbox 360, we had 4 people in the same room on 3 TVS. We had 3/4 brand new accounts and played nothing but Team Slayer Ranked until we lost (the team we lost to was insanely good and followed us into Team Snipers where we almost beat them).

It was very strange and all of us being stuck at rank 7 with 30/0 record felt like a direct Troll from Bungie (the number 7 lol)

I had previously brought a dedicated Lone Wolves to 48 and a Swat account to 46, so it's not like I didn't have experience with ranking.

The one not brand new account only had a few social games

That is strange. I never really thought about what goes into ranking back then. I felt like a noob but easily got to 20. By the time I stopped playing 3 I was only able to get to like 33-35

I always did like how h3 progression was tied to the skill level, so if you seen a colonel or higher you knew it was gonna be a rough day

Starship was ahead of schedule. It was supposed to end up in pieces at the end of the flight but it did it early during reentry. That's innovation for you.
