Yes. My recommendation for first timers is to play in order of release. CE, 2, 3, ODST, Reach, 4 (and then 5 and Infinite but those aren’t part of MCC and 5 is only on console). Also highly recommend classic graphics on the first two games the first time around. The remaster of CE is pretty but it doesn’t properly capture the atmosphere particularly on the mission where the atmosphere matters the most, and is actually less detailed in many ways. And be prepared to possibly change your volume settings on Halo 2 classic because the music is not nearly loud enough for me on some TVs though on others it’s fine. Halo 2 classic is maybe the best soundtrack in the series and you don’t want to make sure you can hear it loud and clear.

Also have a stress ball or pillow to scream into ready for rocket flood and sniper jackals.

I just think that a first time player should try to experience the game in the order it came out and with the graphics and audio it came out with, and then they can go back and experience the remastered versions. Ok, the mission is not very hard, but there are some tough parts, the beginning is easy up to the point where you cross the bridge with the mongoose and get to a firefight with a Wrait and jackal snipers, killing the jackals first is the way to go, a little later your're gonna be ambushed by Drones and Skirmishers, they both die in one headshot, then you'll get to a big open area, your best shot is going upstairs the building that is gonna be there and snipe everything with the sniper and spartan laser that they will give you there, there's gonna be a firefight section until the point they're gonna ask you to enter the MAC cannon, don't enter, instead just wait until they tell you that you can destroy the ship, then do enter, shoot it, mission done

I’m going through each game with my parents (normal difficulty, order of release, classic graphics for first play through but we may go back and do anniversary if we attempt heroic and legendary difficulty). We do the campaign and then play multiplayer. We are currently playing Halo 2 multiplayer. I have a Series X, a Series S and a One X. I’m excited we can do 3 together now with the three of us (and my bother might jump in sometimes which he does with multiplayer on occasion). We may do Halo 3 with each person on a separate console but sometimes we do split screen. And for Infinite it seems we won’t even be able to play with all 3 of us because Infinite runs poorly on the Xbox One on the open world. Don’t even know why they’d release it. It sucks that you can’t just sit on a couch with friends and family and play couch co op anymore. I shouldn’t need 3 or 4 Xboxes just to play a game with my family in the same house.

Every game 343 has done has felt like a reboot of the last to me. Kind of feels like the Star Wars sequel trilogy where every movie is kind of undoing the last one.

Prometheans were kind of lame to fight in Halo 4 but I didn’t think they were that bad in 5. Adding the soldiers and making the Knights a heavy class like Hunters was a good choice.

I don’t think anyone cares who makes the games as long as they’re good. I enjoy all the games but I think that 4 and 5 are lesser products. I thoroughly enjoy Infinite. It has problems but so do all of the games. Bungie didn’t make it. But I still think it’s a great game. I think 4 and 5 are good games too. I just don’t think they feel much like Halo games. But even if people do dislike games just because they’re not made by Bungie, that’s fine. Just like someone hating Bungie games is fine. People are allowed to have opinions. It would be a pretty boring world if everyone thought the same thing.

We are all Halo fans at the end of the day. Gotta tolerate and respect each other’s opinions even if you think they’re awful.

When you really think about it, even if someone absolutely despises every single game except CE, that negative opinion of the other games is just a reflection of their love for CE. Almost all negative opinions people have about Halo are born out of love and passion for the series. You don’t have to agree with it. But I don’t understand people getting bent out of shape over it. (Not talking about you - just speaking generally about the fandom). Just giving an example, I’m a big Nine Inch Nails fan and I have a friend who’s also a fan. But our opinions about the band are so wildly different in almost every way. They only really like the old more aggressive stuff. I like all of it but mainly prefer the deep cuts and ambient/experimental/soundtrack/jazzy stuff. They like a lot of the singles. I think they’re all basically the same subpar song. My opinion of a dream setlist is to them a 2 hour bathroom break. But we are still fans of the same band. My opinion isn’t any more valid than his. People who dislike the 343 games in general aren’t trying to rain on anyones parade.

I found an archive of a website dedicated to hating on Halo 2 the other day. It was actually pretty fascinating seeing people so passionately angry about the game back in the day thinking Halo had jumped the shark.

Saw it in a Halo iceberg video the Nikos channel recently put out. Just goes to show, people have always passionately debated Halo.

Why’d they do that

In the lore is the way that zeta halo is made up of those hexagonal pillars supposed to be because it’s one of the original Halo’s which was made on the greater ark, right? While all the other halos were made on the lesser ark. Because we didn’t see those hexagon pillars on the replacement ring.

There’s a really nice detail on Halo 3 that if you look down into the chasm on the final level near the pyramid it will change based on before and after you activate the ring. Afterwords the area is exploding and going crazy. Halo 3 is an incredibly detailed game. It’s gotta be less than half a percent of players who would ever even notice something like that but they went out of their way to animate it anyways.

Well that’s good to know.

I like how almost every weapon has an ammo or overheat indicator.

I also like how Infinite brought back the vehicle dashboards actually responding in real time to gameplay. Something that was in CE-Reach but then removed from 4 and 5 (and the CE and 2 remasters).

Infinite brought back a lot of that kind of attention to detail. Shoot an animal and it actually dies. Melee an object and it actually moves. 4 and 5 felt like they sacrificed attention to detail for performance.

But they do run well. I never had an issue with frame rate or anything on original Halo 4. On original Halo Reach it ran pretty terribly for me a lot of the time. Even offline on campaign.

You can use a tank and shoot off the back and destroy the core from the outside. You can damage the scarabs weapon systems. You can shoot the legs. Or take an elevator and jump on in the first encounter. I personally like to launch a chopper off that structure in the second encounter.

Infinite is missing those big vehicle sections.

I personally really hope they stick with Infinite and do campaign DLC. Because the core game is very good. It just needs to be built upon. Let us go to the unused areas in the open world, add more biomes, be more creative with how enemy’s spawn and engage with the player (it’s all just walking into a room with enemies or them walking into a room you’re in.) Bring back old marine voice actors/energy. Add more wildlife. More vehicle centered encounters and big battles. Linear missions that aren’t just going into Forerunner or Banished dungeons. Scarabs. All the building blocks of an epic Halo game are already there. The core gameplay and atmosphere is on point in a way that 4 and 5 weren’t (imo). It just needed a little more time. They should have delayed it more. Added all those things to the campaign and of course all the multiplayer stuff missing at launch. And this would have been one of the best received Halo games ever.

That would be cool. There’s so much they could do with the scarabs. It’s a shame that after 3 they didn’t give the scarabs much love. Just one real encounter in ODST (plus a scripted one that isn’t a real fight) that’s super easy because of the engineer stations. And then Reach has them in the background and in cutscenes and it seems like it’s building up to a big encounter but then you just drive past them (though I actually kind of like that). And they haven’t been in the games since.

I think it would be cool if they made each scarab have to be taken down in a unique way. One could be brining a bomb like you suggested. Then there could be one where they have a shield preventing you from going in (like the one on Johnson’s scarab in H2) so you have to kill it from the outside just with sheer heavy firepower. Maybe one where you have to set a trap by doing certain objectives within a time limit.

There’s a lot they could do with the scarabs. Infinite potential.

Constant Push? More like dying with no purpose. Nothing more annoying when the game purposely spawns squads directly on top of the hill despite it taking maximum effort to even get to the hill.

But then again, non of that matters anyway because every match is pre determined from the start. The game gave you 12 losses in the row, but tomorrow, the AI will grant you 5 victories to keep you coming back to the game🤷🏾‍♂️

but the Bandit can actually take on a BR in a mid+ range encouter

imo Reach's DMR had too much long range capability compared to Halo 3's BR which negatively affected the BTB. Halo 3 got it perfect with the BR and the Bandit in Infinite is the same kind of range

and right now the sidekick in Infinite is just too short range when you have so many precision options on the map

how many players will shoot at a wasp with a side kick compared with a bandit? a lot less

at least for me i have pretty much no doubt BTB will be a much more enjoyable experience across all the maps with Bandit+AR start

Infinite's SP is more fun if you just want to shoot bad guys with a few marines on your side. It's still too small scale to truly differentiate itself from the campaign gameplay of other Halo games. The linear sections, however, are poor. Halo 5 is a linear campaign with a decent attempt at telling a 'cinematic' story. Other than the opening cutscene of Infinite, I found most of the cutscenes also poor.

I really dislike the story personally. Even the aspect I see a lot of people praise - Cortana and Chief. I dislike it immensely. For many reasons. I think it was totally unnecessary for there to be a romance. Halo 4 and 5 have a pattern of taking things that were previously subtle or implied and explaining them or expanding on them when it wasn’t necessary imo. In prior games there was no explicit romance. Maybe something you could imply but it was up for interpretation and speculation. Having Chief basically fall in love with Siri was lame. But IF they were gonna go in that direction I felt it could have been much better done than how they did it. And don’t even get me started on the Didact and showing the Forerunners. Sometimes you don’t need to see behind the curtain. 4 and 5 explaining Forerunners, Guardians, expanding on the romance, showing the Didact and Librarian, etc just didn’t work for me.

Well they specifically chose to have all the cutscenes be a single camera shot. Which has pros and cons. I think it was cool, but the gimmick definitely has limitations. I’ve never thought the cutscenes were supposed to be big action sequences in Halo games anyways. And for the most part in the original trilogy they had you play and experience the action rather than show it in cutscenes. But I do agree that the cutscenes could have been better done. It’s 80% Chief and Weapon talking usually in a dark forerunner room, 19% Escharum rambling, and 1% other.

Trust me, you can do the challanges in a single day. Its ten of them and none of them are hard.

One weeks of challanges gets you the Mindfall stuff done, and doing that gets you the ultimate for the week too
