#video-games

I just want to share my dislike for 2019 Ratchet and Clank
haven't played it, so can't tell for sure, though there is a disc since that time
sure - if sequels weren't a thing we'd lose a bunch of good games
max payne 2, portal 2, half life 2, lots of RE games and so on
but i feel like it's a small price to pay
and hey - maybe more new and unique games would pop up in their place
well, it's not bad if a story is too long for one single game
or movie, or whatever
two can be okay, third is.. i think, is a limit
oooooohhhhhhh i really want to use this post as a platform to dunk on nintendo again
but nah
i've got better stuff to do
It's always a balancing act I think
Sometimes that balance is thrown all out of wack by continuing a franchise that should by all rights should have died years ago
Other times potential franchises can end what feels too soon
Forgot about Portal 2
many people did
i replayed that game not too long ago
it's not bad, it's just...
it's three times longer than portal1
but is it three times better?
I liked it. Felt like 1 but better 😦
well i'd argue about that, but...
valve doesn't seem to care anymore so why should i?
yeah about that
have you heard that they're gonna milk john wick to death?
like - i think one of the screenwriters said that in an interview
that as long as people are going to watch it then they're gonna keep making them
and JW3 already was a step down when compared to 2 so...
eeeeeeeeeeh
sir, this is #video-games section
Apparantly Half Life Alyx was good but it incredibly niche with it being vr exclusive
Nor do I have vr to confirm or deny the goodness of it
sir, this is wendy's

i haven't played it either, just watched it
and it looks... pretty dope
however... ||the one, massive gripe i have with it is that IT RETCONS THE ENDING OF EPISODE 2!
you know - that cliffhanger that everyone wanted to see resolved for like... a decade - HLA comes along and goes like "yeah nah that's not what happened there - we're gonna change it last minute to something completely different||
come the hell on, valve
that's a low blow
but then again - alyx's story was a complete mess for most of it's dev time
they had to bring on one of the old writers that left valve years ago
and he basically had mere months to stitch it all back together
Y'know what remake sucks
so i'm not really all that surprised
Majora's Mask 3D
I have never been so disappointed by a remake or port, and that includes the Silent Hill Collection
OH GOD
OH SWEET BABY JESUS
why'd you have to remind me of the silent hill HD collection
that's it
i'm outta here
oh wait i can't go out it's 35c today
Also to tack on to the Good Remakes list, RE2 and Metroid: Zero Mission can round it out to 5
I'd say FF7R also qualifies but I honestly don't consider it a proper remake at this point
yeah it's a 1/3rd of a remake
It's a remake in the same way the first Evangelion film is
In that it plays with the format and uses it to tell a unique story
Wrong, but alright
resell
rerorerorero
Also meaning it's hard to go into without spoiling the big twists
I genuinely don't understand considering it an incomplete product, in that case
they're stretching this story as hard as they can just to get people to pay near 200$ at least
but hey - i'm not here to tell you what to do with your money
and what companies to support
I can't believe they want me to go to the movies three separate times to watch Lord of the Rings
if you enjoyed it then
just keep in mind that you'd have to spend another few hundreds dollars for a new console to see this remakes story to the end
I mean or I'll just watch other people play it
and it's hard for people to stay in the cinema for too long
Myth: Gods of Asgard - Beta Gameplay (Android/IOS)
'Myth: Gods of Asgard‘ will have a Beta test at 11:00am 06/17/2021(UTC+8) in Philippines, available on google play! Asgard is waiting for you!
This game is a Roguelike-ARPG game. In Norse mythology, as Thor, with your Mjolnir, you need to break through the difficulties, stop Ragnarok from comin...
People can experience the story of a game for no money down nowadays, if they have to
there is also another platform for that, it's called youtube
WOOOOOOOOOW
I want to count that as a bad sequel. Am I allowed?
hol up
in today's episode:
where's the line between inspiration and copyright infrigement
?
MOBILE GAMING, everyone
another big win for mobiles
this is the biggest gaming market nowadays btw
Beta will be in Philipines according to description so it is a close guess
for crying out loud...
can we have at least one day
ONE DAY - that's all i'm asking
where video games don't make me
?
oh oops
well imma just do this instead
Lmao that trailer

Watch the dialog be copied straight from that other roguelite
SGGs gotta see this tbh
son "mom - can we have hades?"
mom "we've got hades at home"
hades at home
Look how far our boys have come that they are getting blalantly ripped off 🥲 I'm tearing up of happiness
You know you've made it when that happens
"imitation is the sincerest form of overused quotes"

no
those youtube comments tho
also - after watching the whole thing
some sounds and effects are just ripped straight from hades - without even changing one bit
that rainbow shader thingy, some room layouts, sound effects galore, sprites, animations
the list goes on
seriously tho - we gotta show this to the SGGs
@slow oraclegood find
don't they see what we're talking about rn?
The SG crew wouldn't read the chat I guess. Mods usually do
But if they aren't reading this, that means...
HOHO
I'm gonna research this
HOHO
i already am
I just got back from watching animu so
Myth: Gods of Asgard - Beta Gameplay (Android/IOS)
'Myth: Gods of Asgard‘ will have a Beta test at 11:00am 06/17/2021(UTC+8) in Philippines, available on google play! Asgard is waiting for you!
This game is a Roguelike-ARPG game. In Norse mythology, as Thor, with your Mjolnir, you need to break through the difficulties, stop Ragnarok from comin...
look at this
this is shameless
it's almost 1 to 1 pose
Best way to notify SGG about this is probably mentioning their Twitter account with this video
Downloading the video in case it gets deleted
gppb
it's chinese dev
well
presumably
I checked android play store and nothing came up
the links from the vid
also I did check the other website
nothing mentions the dev
I can click on it
but nothing is there
I tried googling the dev name but the only thing that came up is secret of mana
it's probably still pretty fresh and didn't roll out for all stores

Also I don't think they can sue. Mechanics can't be patented and as long they don't use art or assets from Hades SGG can't do anything
i recommend reading up on how those mobile games are even made
spoiler - in a lot of cases it involves shady dealings and shell companies
yeah about that
i think they do some assets from hades
and maybe some other games
pointed them out earlier
this is essentially "hey I can borrow your homework I promise I won't copy it word for word"
Description says beta will start at a later date so it is kinda normal it isn't in stores yet
ye
i gotta say
this game looks kinda...
https://youtu.be/WuN7RvX7R78
Based on the famous Recut. I apparently made this DANK OC back in 2014.
I meant the dev page
but
hmmmm
idk
nothing come up I'll try again tomorrow or something
holy crud, that Hades mobile clones plays exactly like Hades lol
on one thing, it's like, Hope SGG can do something to maybe stopping the infringement
but on the other hand, I hope SGG can make Hades for mobile
there's probably some whack loophole to where Gaming Mobile can pull this off
there kinda is and kinda isn't
well not only that, they also took the um, "chest" design from league
yeah that's fair I need to somewhat read up on the civil laws of copyright jazz
i'm no saul goodman so i can't really tell how law works in this case
but there's been many, MANY examples like that over the years and they just...
they just keep on coming
yeah that's what I was thinking as well
also - this makes me sad for darren
this game's got both the artstyle and the gameplay down
but music clearly didn't make the cut
i'm just joking now, of course
yeah I was listening to the music for that game in the video and was like man that music is hot garbage
they didn't even steal one of the best aspects of hades
4 days until the steam sale
hopefully dark souls remaster goes on sale for more than 50% off
I thought it was 6
Gamespot stated it was tomorrow but it's also gamespot
https://www.gamespot.com/articles/steam-summer-sale-2021-approaches-start-date-and-time-revealed/1100-6492986/
there's also a tweet backing up their statement that it's tomorrow
from steam itself
Oh cool
yeah I wonder if gremlins inc will go on sale as well
kinda want to push some people I know to buy it

Man, the moment I show up no one talks anymore.
mudkip smelly

haha mudkip stinky
This'd better not be a copy pasta.
I was enjoying a coffee my bad
mudkip
So Fox. Did you play Road 96 the demo?
It's on my list today
Was busy doing overcooked and hell is other demons yesterday
Remember you can only play it twice
I just want to see what setpieces you've got and how you resolved them
I can say with no sense of irony and exaggeration that this game will become one strong candidate to GOTY 2021 for me
steam summer sale is probably on 24th
xcom is the best roguelike
Don't talk to me or my roguelites ever again.
Pro: XCOM is a roguelite.
Con: kraja.
Look, all I'm saying is you can make it function like one
XCOM is a tabletop, isn't it
XCOM was the friends we made along the way
XCOM was the friends we lost along the way
okay question
is it me or isn't it a bit odd demos don't have options avaliable?
for at least sounds
Mom, can we get Hades?
We have Hades at home.
Hades at home:
should I try it?
out of morbid curiosity
We could MST3K it
whats mst3k?
Mystery Science Theater 3000
Basically they riff and analyze bad and obscure movies in a funny way. It was on TV and predates YouTube for decades
you're too late
i already made that joke hours ago
HA!

Hades Netflix adaptation
i did it
GMDX on hard with a super scuffed build
and man - what an adventure this was
5 solid days of binging it 10 hours a day, if not more
and even though it was my 5th run, i've seen so much new stuff, took so many new routes and used so many new tools, it kinda felt like a whole new game
seriously - i cannot recommend this game enough
The joke is that this game is the Hades Netflix adaptation meme
oh
they stole the lootbox animation from League
Chinese companies and stealing. Name a more iconic duo.
this isn't the hades league crossover i wanted

be careful what you wish for
i wanted a mirror's edge sequel for years...
and look how it turned out
oh...
That's on you for buying a monkey paw
With characteristic comic style and hundreds of magical powers and artifacts, Roguelike gameplay with rich strategies, shows you the epic plot of Ragnarök. Come and show your wisdom and courage in this brand new super cool combat RPG.
im sold
yeah i bet that "rougtelike" got you good
im sold at with

That's Nyx. They didn't even bother to reskin her
that's Raymond you fools
oh this is hysterical
can you not read?
no
Wisely choose > choose your cards wisely
eh
it's different enough to avoid any charges
oh that's just straight up elysium assets
also
check out that door clipping through the wall
You mean good game design
Best mobile game 2021
you know what this game reminds me of?
those math tests and homeworks we always got in school
copied 100 times on a crappy printer so you can barely even make out what's on it
that's this game
diablo 3?
well if they're gonna steal something - they might as well steal from blizzard
good_riddance.mp3
I'm honestly half tempted to download the apk and load it onto blue stacks

just that it's a blatant rip off
Alright I know what I'm doing this evening
xD
on one hand - i wanna download it
on the other - i don't wanna bump up the thing in the play store
look up and see Goku (as a valkyrie) and Medusa as a generic pretty lady. And of course, King. Just King.
Oh so Goku, my favourite Hades character is in the game. Cool!
mate i don't have a "main phone" and a "backup phone"
i just have...
a phone
let the game develop
we will have our outrage later
ill be back for the pitchfork sale
of course
not only is it a gacha, its one of Those loot games
honestly impressed how they took a solid single player game absent of toxic monetization features and went, hmm but what if we add those in actually
this honestly looks like an alpha screenshot of hades
like the kind of stuff you'd see in a noclip documentary
also
that river of blood looks like it's a straight 1 to 1 copy
same as those hanging cloth thingys
banners? or whatever they're called
that's Diablo loot animation
as in the color and the lights
diablo didn't invent color coded rarity, come on now
no they did not
im trying to say it's likely ripped from diablo
but you are right
i mean - hey
i don't remember them looking like that in d1 or d2
so that leaves us with d3...
which...
i mean - hey - it's blizzard, feel free to steal as much from them as you want
you have my blessing
sadly
again, not saying that D3 "did this first"
just that the dev of this Hades-at-home probably stole it from D3.
diablo is perhaps the most well known for doing it, rather
games like this rip off from whatever's popular after all
They learnt from me.
#off-topic-discussion message
i only like starcraft and thats dead anyway [blizzard proceeds to announce some mobile monetized starcraft game next month purely to spite me]
sorry folks i goofed
Don'T YoU GuYs hAve PhoNeS?
gppb
what
good
what is

honestly mood, i have zero idea what youre trying to convey with gppb and would react the same way
it's alright
i'm just rambling, as always
Dunno when he said gppb I felt that
what game genres do you want to get more into?
fox
chose your next words carefully
i want to know more about the first person shooter genre
is League an FPS?
because i heard it makes the user wants to shoot themselves
hence first person shooter

I mean
technically
we have Smite
it's a third person
BUT it is the closest we can get to FPS moba
due to it's camera angles™️
do i eat ice cream now?
you can eat your ice cream yes
and no, ice cream is not a rogue-like due to how much ice cream you can get in one scoop compared to other scoops.

alright I got Myth: Gods of Asgard on bluestacks
it's taking 84 years to load
Wasn't Battleborn sort of close to a first person moba
I forgot its existence so I couldn't recall it well
BATTLEB
RN
please
Bad game, but still An Attempt
Claimed to be "the most ambitious video game that Gearbox has ever created". Battleborn budget is estimated to be at least $40 million but only grossed $18 million in June 2016. It received "mixed to average" reviews with a fast declining population short after release.

Battleborn Co-Op ...
I tried playing the beta
what happened?
Couldn't run it
you know they weren't lying when they said Myth: Gods of Asgard was in early access because I'm still stuck on the mobile screen and it's not present on the the google play store
hope you weren't too attached to your personal data
and off it goes
look at it go
my personal data
huh didn't see that last part but oh well
good thing I live in america and my personal data is already gone
Skordalia
welp - time to go a mimir
but before i go...
let me celebrate my latest W with this dumb crap
https://youtu.be/FOz8i5nngcE
I jumped onto the bandwagon. I'm very sorry.

@paper cove that's a post better suited for #self-promotion, try positing there instead :)
Oh ok sorry
Guilty Gear Strive good game
I liked it
sooooooooooooooooooooooooooo...
apparently B4B won't have an offline mode to play with bots
or even just... solo
rip
same as left 4 dead
or left 4 dead 2: zombie boogaloo
hell - even cheap ass middle market kf2 lets you play solo
and it's... quite fun every now and then
is it ballanced?
hell no - not with that double syringe regen
but i'd rather have an unbalanced solo mode than... not have it at all
imma be unreal engine 4 with yall
b4b ain't looking so good
I saw it from miles away
when RT played the demo, watched someone explaining the card system
not every developer gonna pull sonic the hedgehog movie all of sudden
Have any of y'all played Shiren the Wanderer on Switch? 👀
anyways
time for mode dumb stuff
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8dTny-ssEiY
You're forgetting some great VA from Todd Howard himself
https://youtu.be/JpZCaPs1q6w
todd pls voice act more
yes this is real, if you put "coc hawkhaven" in the console you'll find this guy in one of the buildings
man
video games would've been way more boring without todd
it's alright, todd
you can make the next fallout game even less of an RPG and more of a buggy far cry knockoff
i'm here just for the memes
In this video, a voice actor for Oblivion isn't edited properly, with her request to repeat the line left in the game for all to hear.
Check out my latest documentary about skateboarding in Peru here: https://youtu.be/o0UiIzlFDlU
Todd pls
the wackiest part of miitopia, for me, anyways, is that i actually progress
like
this time yesterday i had ||just gotten all the members for team 2||, and now i'm off to ||design the third member of team 3||
like
i'm so used to games where i've had to do such lengthy grinding as i progress, it's nice to be able to do stuff and actually see progress, for once
any form of grinding if its a necessity is stupid ngl
grinding should never be mandated, it should only be voluntary. like take octopath traveler for example. they expect you to do all 8 stories, which ofc the normal player would do, but if you keep about 2-3 of the same people in your party for all of the starting quests, they hit abt lvl10. when the next chapter for everyone is 20. this is an example of forced grinding which i dont appreciate. looking at per say gba fire emblem tho, none of the grinding is necessary, if you want you can go to the arena or tower of valni or whatever to get as many levels as you want and its your choice
grinding as a mandate only really drags down the experience since it really screws with pacing and just natural flow
grinding is of those things that im fine with doing but im not gonna like it lol
For the passed few mins, I've been thinking which RPG / JRPG I played that I actually grind as a necessity
except for No more heroes I
even then it's an essential game design and not a flaw
like
the two most recent games asides miitopia, one i'm farming for rare things for completely optional, completely ridiculous achievements, the other is designed for you to be relatively low-level and weak so i spent 20 hours getting stat-boosters so i wasn't so frail because i don't vibe with being lv 20 for the final boss
there was one where i had to grind for something rng-based because i wasn't strong enough to proceed without it, but that's only an issue for some players and down to it being a remake that carries over and unimproves some old, bad, game design
im starting to have war flashbacks to kh: chain of memories with the dumb doors that you need to have been lucky to get a certain card
sounds horrible, have an f
we don't talk about chain of memories
like monster hunter, although an inherently grindy game, rise didnt feel too grindy unless i wanted it to be. like i killed those 50 magnamalos for the orb since i wanted to
Etrian Odyssey
laughs in crown farmer
Grinding is technically your job
and even after you get the orb, you'll still hunt it cause it's fun :>
mhm :3 magnamalo is a really fun fight so i didnt mind it much at all
my only excuse is that i hyperfixiate on stuff, so having any goal to work towards in monhun when it's all i can think of is good enough
create EVERY armor piece
that doesn't get you a pretty achievement tho
that can go below 'make an incredible guild card so people think i'm a pro before watching me die to a baggi'
i also wanna make sets for all my pretty weapons
Mizutsune weapons
except for switch axe
speaking of MHRise
I got lucky yest
got AB3, Bludgeoner 2, 1-1-0 charm
ooo nice my best tali is like a mt2 2-0-0 and a wex2 stam thief3 1-0-0
i also run a pp1 qs1 2-0-0 for db stuff
only issue with my pretty weapons obsession is the ones too bad to be useable i have to layer over rampage ones and the grind for that is horrible
wait not qs i mean the funny quick sharpen one i forget the acronym for
i also have a quick sheath2 divine blessing1 3-1-1 for long sword
bow over here with rampage meta 😎
I also got Quick Sheath 2, Botanist 1, 3-2-1
for bow I have either, Normal/rapid 2, 3-0-0
or cons 3, 3-0-0
i need better bow talis ;-;
since i dont have a good con or rapid up one so i have to go with my wex one
I'm good in most fronts
but I hope I get rapid morph 3, 2-0-0
that would be nice
I have good charms for most of the weapons
except my main
i think i have that one lol its been a bit since ive touched rise
i dont play cb much so it doesnt serve me much use
I'm switch axe main
swax 🤮
whenever i see swax i just go "huh, ok ig"
im a glaive main
bow/db secondary with ls and cb pocket
none of the weapons look cool >_>
and like
it seems so easy to play i just dont want to
god i keep getting ads about the bts meal at mcdonalds and i hate it
L
hey the chainsaw swaxe looks great
and me being a glaive main i love me some mobility
so most of the learning curve is i-framing
or stick evade ext 1
and you're good to go
lance and bow are my second main
can't decide which one for second main
oh youre one of the like 3 lance players??
i just cant with the bowguns
too braindead
like even ls has to think to some degree
LBG yes, HBG still needs to think for a bit
at least when you solo
if you're in a group just shoot away
someone said today is the steam sale. now i am great sad. 😦
Well if you like Bandai Namco you are in luck
steam sale shouldnt start til like wednesday or thursday
nextfest ends on the 22nd so maybe the 23rd
HUGO!
you better put your game on sale, Hugo!
i wanna see your game on the front page again, Hugo!
it's... interesting?
ehm... not?
i played a little bit of it on my friends ps4, didn't finish it (obviously) so i had to watch the rest on youtube
I personally find watching paint drying on the wall far more interesting than this
and it's got some interesting ideas
and there were some moments that gave me this nice fuzzy comfy feeling in my stomach
kojima always knew how to pick good songs for his games, that's for sure
buuuuuuuuuut...
there's been just as many moments in this game where i felt like the game was all the way up it's own...
butt
regarding the story and some dialogues and current events
https://steamdb.info/sales/history/ if to go off by this
it's most likely 24th
To me it feels like a 70 dollar game with the clunkiest movement and being labelled as a "strand type" game as an excuse for its laziest and most boring gaming on a title
and then there was some
too
which is part of the course for kojipro games, i suppose
and i'm saying this as a life long mgs fan
i mean - i'm fine with devs trying to come up with some new styles of even the most basic elements of gameplay
I say Death Stranding is an experience for sure, has it downs and all, but it's pretty nice overall, IF it is your kind of game.
sure - make me tease those shoulder buttons while walking, why not
otherwise it's not up to enjoyment. It's kind of "you or hate or love the thing"
but it's like...
there's so much filler in this game
which i guess was the point, but...
there's so much cool stuff you could do with that movement and building systems and what not
Tell you what, I would have more fun finishing Hades for the 10th time than playing any minute of this kojima mess
at all. I've watched gameplay
that's understandable! Everyone got their tastes and preferences in video games.
i think i just figured out how to sum up my gripes with this game in one sentence
death stranding is a game that lacks stakes in gameplay, while telling a convoluted, world-ending plot.
DS looks like these paintings on an art gallery where the artist just sneezes on a towel, throws it on the ground and is like "that's art"
as in - when you compare it to mgs3 - which is my fave
there moving one inch to a side could mean the end
there's a lot of decisions you have to make there every minute to not get caught while still experimenting with all the cool toys and interlocked systems and bending them to your advantage
while in death stranding most of that decision making boils down to stuff like "what route should i take to get the most deliveries done so that i could play this game less" and "am i going to trip over this little rock here if i cut this corner"
and that's about it, really
"... play this game less..." you said it yourself lmao
i don't mind slow games
and this one is slow - it doesn't give your fingers much to do
but at the same time it doesn't really occupy my mind that much
Do you think you want to play a fun game less if it were fun?
oh it does, but
this is my point - after that there's not much to really think about
as in - the game doesn't really mix up it's challenges that make you think about that loadout in different ways
as in - it affects your ballance for the trip - sure
and it does just that for the whole trip
DS embodies the dark age of gaming in a game.
like - ok, hear me out here
let's compare a 20 minute walk in death stranding to a 20 minute sneak-a-thon in mgs3
for example - that one bit from the helicopter outpost to a lab
in mgs3 the game throws some new challenges at you with every map
and those maps are pretty small so there's a lot
and there's a lot of optional stuff to do there - let me blow up this ammo storage, loot all the medicine, yoink some food, hold up all the guards to get some stuff - and so on
and all of it is optional but highly encouraged by all the dfferent tools you get - and all those decisions affect what happens later - with no medicine guards can get sick, with no ammo they're gonna suck in combat and so on
and that's just one map - the next one might have soldiers patroling in tall grass so that they blend in and you have to be careful
next one wants to infiltrate a base so you can dress up as a scientist and pretend to escape and intentionally get captured and send into a prison cell in that lab you wanted to get into
and so on
ROGUELITE
it does all those cool things and you find something new there every 10 minutes
I don't really think DS is that of a dark age of gaming. real dark age of gaming would be having games not to experiment with core features that they establish and set up a never ending row of same games that just stick to same guns and change up graphics a bit and having zero identity and still overcrowd the market.
while death stranding is like...
"ok - let me plan my route now, figure out what i want to take and how to balance my stuff"
and then... that's it
you're just thinking about your steps and nothing else
you know what i mean?
while i appreciate some stuff this game is doing - from the mood, style, music and so on
the gameplay itself is... well it just isn't engaging, despite it trying to invent a new way of walking - which is the part of gameplay you're gonna be interacting with all the time
I think more experimental takes on what gameplay can be are better than repeating the same formula without changing the wheel all too much or nailing the wheel to out stand more in practise. I prefer somewhat undefined with its core themes experimental game rather than play a game I probably played before, but not really just the game feels samey to the other game I played some time ago.
well yeah but that - along with BTs is like... a bare minimum
and mgs3 had that too but it was so mundane that i didn't even feel like mentioning it
with stuff like the food system, the survival viewer, stamina, usable items, silencers and stuff that wear off and camouflage
i want to join the conversation but i don't know what we are talking about
eat standing
Death Stranding yeah
i don't see randomly generated dungeons, perma deaths, and random power ups
what is this game
anyways - while DS didn't really jam with me
and while i agree that it's really... divisive
i wouldn't call it the prime example of the dark age of gaming or whatever
and that comes from a highly critical person
but foxe
can people make a game that doesn't have those elements?
for example - it doesn't have pointless mtx, or season passes
it's not a remake or a reboot or re-whatever of a well known franchise but a wholly new ip
and i think in this time and age - i gotta applaud that
so... good job, koji-pro
for doing the bare minimum while others fail to do even that
there are not too many new ips from big studios, to think of that
I like Death Stranding in sense it made people to discuss about the things more, what it does. Even if it may not deliver for some, it may work as good setting stone to ponder about how to about gameplay as well being a courier, while not also being primarly a game about beating up people.
||oh hi there, nintendo
||
When Death Stranding came out I started looking for a switch to buy
you can't make an omlette without breaking a few eggs, right?
sheesh... that makes me want to replay MGR again
I didn't know art only came in the form of 70 bucks games politically themed starring hollywood actors
my bad
I am not cultivated enough y'know
the cynical side of me wants to say something like...
"sony gave kojima a blank check, and in turn he gave them a blank game" or whatever (i'm paraphrasing here)
while the other side of me wants to go like...
while dissappointing, i think DS - in all it's failures - is a good step towards something potentially truly great
i just hope that kojima and his team took some lessons from DS and their next game will show some major improvements
OH BOI
you don't know?
how before the launch kojima was referring to...
and i'll try to by careful here...
building bridges instead of walls
They only represent the leftist side of political aspect.
he was talking about trump and brexit a lot
they are one sided
tbh, if somebody would ask me about a game that can embody the dark age of gaming with political themes and enormous price, DS wouldn't be among first bunch of games coming to thought
trying to make his weird ass story relevant
like...
this... didn't age well
yeah that's the thing
i thought it wasn't that specific
the game itself doesn't really go anywhere with this?
i thought it was about human interaction in this times as a whole
like - sure - there's some vague stuff here and there
but the story as a whole is more focused on their weird EEs and what not
all those speeches about sticks and ropes and what not
while those interviews before the launch suggested something completely different
I wouldn't mind a walking simulator as long as it's interesting with fun gameplay
so... which one is it then?
there is more than one wall in the world, uknow
eh
this convo is getting a bit messy
my point is - while i'm still on the fence about the game myself
and while i'm aware of it's numerous faults
isn't that a sign of a genius
when people make great discussions out of little input data
i still think we're better off having it than not
and it's nowhere near as bad as ubisoft's latest output or whatever
Ubi Ubi Ubisoft

do white names on discord sometimes appear slightly blue to you?
light blue actually

white names?

twitch may be the only thing where i use dark mode actually
it already has its own source of light
or if the monitor is the only source of light in the room
some people don't turn the lights on at night
whicn i don't understand
i use dark mode because my vision is - in fact - augmented
do you know what mosquitos are?
I like light mode, though usually when I am outside on phone and it's a bit sunny
mosquitos? exactly
otherwise dark mode mostly for me
you see, that's the problem. you go outside.

ooo this game seemed neat when i looked at it
I'm actually surprised they spent only 5 months in EA
i mean the animation looks like rigged 2d instead of like hand drawn
so they just have to make an idle sprite and they can get almost everything relatively quickly
Bought the game in sale back in March finished all EA content so now I'm excited for the full experience
There is also Scarlet Nexus coming up soon But I'll wait for a sale
I wonder if like Code Vein it will be a ||God Eater Spinoff||

Norse..Asgard..legends game
i posted about that yesterday to laugh at it and my notifs have been obliterated since last night as everyone found it
So I just finished playing the demo once. Just a few thoughts:
Performance is fine. Though I do get some frame hitches on an RX580. Hopefully this is smoothed out eventually.
The story is intriguing and promising. I am interested in what the full game has to offer. Right now a lot of options are a bit "forced" and some options are just not allowed since it's a demo. But I have full confidence when the game is out, we will have a lot more freedom to choose so this "complaint" will (hopefully) be invalidated.
But yes, Road 96 is certainly something I would look forward to in the future. I can see a good game in the making here.
As for the route I specifically went , ||I hitched a ride from two bank robbers and helped them escape the police by... throwing the money back to the cops. Then I was blackmailed into working at a gas station for a day. I actually found a key to steal a car to run away, but the demo limited this option and "forced" me to stay. Then I saw the police arresting another kid for trying to cross the border and the game ended there for me. While at the moment the options are limited, I can already see the variability of paths and actions you can take once the game is out.||
TLDR: Road 96 definitely has potential and should be kept on the radar.
I actually checked
The demo only has 4 scenarios for everyone for a total of 2 playthroughs
Did you get a similar scenario that I had?
And I actually managed to steal the car
If you replay the demo you get the other 2 scenarios
oh nice. it just says something along the line of demo limited when I tried to interact with the car using the key.
Weird
Maybe is because what is random is the skills your character has
Maybe the protagonst you got can't drive
Like you have pickpocketing Lockpicking, hacking charisma. etc
Iirc
maybe
Wait the female cop didn't fake arrest you?
she did
What happened to me is that the cops arrested the hitchhiker and tried to arrest me so the other cop took pity and fake arrested me then let me go and took the money from the gas guy, stole his keys by lockpicking a locker and took his car
Hilariously the second playthrough you start with his stolen car even if you didn't stole it
ok so i lock picked the key and the atm card the moment i get to the gas station
then i tried the car
that didn't work
so i went with the gas station shift
Oh ok
I waited to do all the things before trying to leave
I also got in one of the scenarios a cassette with Bella Ciao of all songs
But yeah this demo has made this game my most expected one of the year
Definitively getting it on release
Its gonna be on Switch right?
PC, Switch and Stadia.
Yes, Stadia still getting games for the happiness of their 10 remaining users
i'll be genuinely shocked if stadia is still around in another year
i think cloud gaming is too big for google to let go that easily. more competition is good.
that said, no way in hell im using stadia at this state, or in the near future xD
well. i commend your optimism i guess but gestures at https://killedbygoogle.com/
i just think its simply an inevitability google will eventually axe stadia, just like nearly anything else they do
I've seen goldfishes with better attention span than Google
tatz changed my life when they posted that killedbygoogle link
That's an oldie but goldie
it thrills me when more people find out about it, its something i stumbled over years ago lol
when you see the sheer scope of all the things google ends services to, some of which is legit but other things are just. why...
but thats why im not optimistic about stadia's lifespan, google hasn shown me any reason i should believe they'll keep supporting it
asked a friend what they thought and they gave an estimation of christmas time
Lmao so I was getting killed at the end of the run and idk the reason why I cant beat it on One step from eden neutral ending
Turns out thats the way it should
Lmao ok so beat normal ending twice now
Once you get the hang of it it isnt as bad and in the late game you just spam spells
I wanted to share this review I found on steam for a new rogue like game
"It's a reall good game at some point, but it is a real bummer that you have to start all over after you lose a life. I mean, the developers didn't think people can get frustrated if we cannot continue from where we left after we lose a life? It's 2021, and you are using game mechanics from the 90s, come on! Yeah you can play the game and have fun, but after a few hours you don't want to play anymore when you realize you have to start the same levels all over again."
op i think roguelikes/lites are not for you
Human are incredibly self-centered.
see that's what I thought of hades at first
but the downtime was interesting enough
using game mechanics from the 90s makes me laugh bc like. old cartridge games were short. so to account for this games were artificially more difficult, bc a lot of them originated from arcade cabinets and that was the way to make money + keep players coming back to try again. like... its not even the same thing as a genre that is built around looping mechanics
and the buyable buffs meant ican plan ahead
Blade assault
Pretty fun but not worth it tbh
The early access sheet and the store page says there is 4 playable characters but buried deep in their posts they say coming soontm
I'm just waiting to see if people tried out Hell is Other Demons
This is a review on Hades
I think I found my arch nemesis. Every game is roguelike.
Might not be the best place to ask but can someone help me out?
#h1-discussion
I mean, it's not though
it's a rogue-lite
rougelikes have 0 permanent progression between runs
rogue-lites have mechanics in place to make every run worth at least something towards overall progression.
you must be new here
"game mechanics from the 90s" but like.... JRPG turn based combats, adventure zelda mechanics, and metroidvania are also game mechanics from the 90s?
like how is that a bad thing?
I'm not saying rogue-lites are a bad thing, it's just a sub-genre
depends on who you ask but most uses the berlin interpretation to consider something a rogue-like
but eh its all just fancy words now most new roguelites are really all about genre bending
that genre segregation is a bit blurry for it
My quick take on the excerpt from the review is that it's a classic case of someone mistaking their personal taste for objective quality.
like.... developers really went crazy with roguelites and just tried everything they could do
Man I feel out of place. @fathom juniper help. I need someone to set up my joke.
and Im not mad about it lmao
I'd actually say "roguelike" vs "roguelite" is an important distinction, given it's the one that really empowers the genre.
Permadeath is the overarching binding concept when making a rogue-insert, so distinguishing between meta progression or no meta progression feels very important.
^
The meta progression in Hades for example is deeply important to the lore of the game.
and makes it a rogue-lite
Also, it helps that it just plain makes the game easier.
there is still debate though on what is considered a rogue-like
Okay, fair.
some people wont accept it as a rogue-like as long as it isnt turn based dungeon crawler
for some its enough that it doesnt have meta progression
some strictly stick to the berlin interpretation which only a real few game pass as a roguelike while others just distinguish as meta progression or without meta progression
I honestly think it's fine to use Roguelite and like interchangeably.
How many "true" Roguelikes are made in the past 10 years that actually made a splash?
I'd say I guess tangledeep but even that had a mode that isn't a true roguelike
I am not well-read enough in the history of Rogue to really be commenting on this, but this isn't a super serious forum on the subject, but I think you should take the unique quality and the unique quality alone as the qualifier.
It's appropriation of the term, sure. But I'm sorry, there are probably literally dozens of true Roguelikes fan out there. The "looking for similar games" argument doesn't hold a candle.
When true Roguelikes are far and few in between.
I'd use it interchangeably as long as the community wont decide on the standardized definition

from my observation, backtracking and slowly introducing new skills/game mechanics and also focuses more on exploration imo
but thats my own take
Free-flowing map with interconnectivity and additional modes of travel as the game progresses.
regardless of how one would define a metroidvania, at least Metroid Dread is coming out in October
true
and that's a game I'm really looking forward to
Is Super Metroid on the Switch?
But Metroidvania doesn't have people debating if it's like or lite
why did you phrase that like the prime games were the mainline series?
the main series is the 2d games
also I can't unsee that the robo thingies in metroid dread looks like portal's robots
I just cant unsee it
nah I didn't mean it was the mainline series
I just meant that people are thirsting for metroid prime 4 more
I'm not fretting over Prime 4 being under wraps, I trust the devs.
I actually prefer 2d metroid games, but the Prime trilogy was also really good.
I've never played the prime games didn't own the consoles
and it's not like they can't work on one without leaving the other in the dust, it's a whole other team working on dread in collaberation with Nintendo
but I'm not really a metroid fan either I just kind of see whats going on there
it's on the Wii U eshop for like 20$ afaik
the only one I don't trust in nintendo is gamefreak so Im sure dread will be great
best played with a wii motion plus enabled controller and max sensitivity settings imo
I only have switch
oof
well, Wii U's shouldn't be that much on the secondary market huh?
I don't trust GF either.
Yeah sadly the Prime games are trapped on the Gamecube, Wii, or Wii U
the directors just don't want to expand and refuse to treat the series like the multi-media giant it is.
There's a not insignificant level of higher ups refusing to budget for it, to be fair
you never know, they might re-release them on the switch months before Prime 4's release date is confirmed.
Pokemon Company is not GameFreak and all that
Im just hoping pokemon legends is their redemption arc cause Ive been thirsting for a good pokemon game
I mean, it's the litreal highest grossing multi-media franchise of all time, and the games make bank
I bought nexomon and playing it right now
5fps Chingling isn't helping me get my hopes up
I know, but GameFreak isn't in charge of budgeting for the franchise
Yes. It's great.
and it's not like I can transfer my pokemon over anyways, my 3ds has homebrew on it now.
I can vouch for Nexomon
I loved whoever wrote the jokes lmao
like yes the 4th wall jokes are a bit too much
so now all my pokemon are now suspect, despite me working for them
but also just the comedic moments were gold
I'm really hoping the low fps thing ends up being a stylistic choice, like animating on 2s
Yeah for sure. The talking cat is great
But it wasn't consistent enough in the trailer for me to be confident
I mean
yeah Im really worried about that too
