does anyone knows which game implemented the crit chance convertion first?
i know many games have that mechanic and i would like to know which game was the pioneer on that
crit chance conversion?
dunno if this is the answer to your question, but it's the wiki page on critical hits
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Critical_hit
In many role-playing games and video games, a critical hit (or crit) is a chance that a successful attack will deal more damage than a normal blow.
like pseudo random crit chance?
Warcraft 3 is the first one (?) to implement a pseudo random crit chance I think
warcraft 3 the first game with random crits?
hell no
i mean - if you wanna talk semantics
every "random" thing in games is pseudo random
since you can't really have truly randomly generated numbers - they're always based on some set math that tends to give wildly different results
Pseudo Random Distribution (shortened PRD) is a mechanic from the Warcraft 3 engine where seemingly random outcomes are instead pseudo-random, limiting the factor of luck significantly. Pseudo-random distributions are used to calculate chance based passive abilities including Critical Strike, Bash, Evasion and Drunken Brawler.
In more common ran...
This is what I mean
In Warcraft 3, 15% crit doesn't mean you have a 15% chance to crit, but rather you average 15% of your attacks to crit
There is a subtle difference there
In more common random distributions, every possible check has the same chance of activation regardless of any prior checks. In pseudo-random distribution streaks of activation or streaks of no activation are less likely, but the overall probability remains the same.
oh i see now what you mean
still - even though it's the first time i'm seeing this
i still doubt it's the first game to have that
i bet there's some old rpg out there with something similar
So if you're trending below 15% average crits, the game weighs crits heavier until it trends above 15%?
basically your first strike have fewer than 15% chance to crit, but if you don't your hit chance increases with every miss
until you crit, then it resets
that kinda sounds like what the new xcom games are doing
in the end you average 15% somehow with math, idk the exact formula
and yeah, technically you can get 100% crit chance even on 15% crit
that's why in competitive warcraft sometimes people free hit their own units before engaging in combats
so they can have "pre" crit hit chance xD
here's an easier way of explaining it
imagine you're playing xcom and you have a 50% chance of hitting the ayylien
in theory - you should hit him at least once when you fire two shots, right?
but every shot has it's own check, so every shot calculates that 50% separately - so you can still miss him twice in a row
but if you miss him twice in a row, your next shot is going to have higher chances of hitting
did i get that right?
yeah, except your first shot would actually have less than 50% chance to hit, to compensate for the increase later
it's like 40% and then 60%
yeah i was doing xcom logic there
yup
it's a good system imo
because you don't die to 3 crits in a row, or go on a long drought without critting
funny thing about the new xcom games
they're... infamous for having some bullcrap RNG
but in reality... there's a lot of tricks like that behind the scenes that actually work in your favor
it's like how tetris nowadays have a system to make sure block ratio are consistent
yeah 95% chance to hit = 100% or something like that
it's just how human brain is wired and we tend to get salty about those moments when we miss, instead of remembering those uncertain shots that the game helped us hit
You just triggered my fight-or-flight response, thanks.
... that still didn't stop me from smashing my keyboard on the floor after getting so unfairly screwed in one mission it ended my 30 hours long war ironman campaign YEAH IM STILL SALTY ABOUT THAT ROOFTOP MISSION
dude I got para/confused/flinch 7 times in a row and lost the game
30 hours
long war mod, enemy within DLC, classic mode, ironman
i was doing so well and then BAM
i got dropped in one mission that ruined everything in three turns
that's .75^7 = 13.34% chance
what i meant is critical chance converted to flat dmg
which was implemented in lol recently
but it was on many games way before that
if im not mistaken
so rageblade math?
yes
instead of having critical chance all of your attacks have a little more dmg
oh so like...
instead of having a 20% chance to crit for twice the damage
you just get like a... 5% flat increase to your normal damage?

for on hit builds in the case of lol
but assasins creed has a similar mechanic i think and other games
so my question is which game put the mechanic on the map
yeah lol is the first time i see that kind of system tbh
hmmmm....
didn't borderlands 2 have something similar?
looking at the wiki - this does kinda sound like one of Gaige's skills
haven't played it in a while so i dunno
nah - just looked it up - turns out i'm just talking crazy
mobile game otherworld legends has that mechanic and it came out before the rageblade rework iirc
and as i said some assassins creed games have it aswell
so I tried to finish the Epilogue on Shadow of War and I have to say, it really sours my experience.
combat is fun but it gets repetitive eventually, camera angle is honestly straight up garbage so we don't talk about that, enemy level is a bit inflated (or maybe i'm just underleveled? or maybe that's to sell lootbox when it first came out??? maybe i'm too skeptical here)
but the worst offender is the control, oh boy. in the game the B button is used for reviving teammates, "stunlock" enemies, and sometimes interact with mission objective. That's right, one button for 3 different functions in combat with no way to specify which one you want. many many times I die or lose a mission because instead of reviving my teammate right next to me, it decides to stunlock an enemy instead, and touching the mission objective in the sea of enemy is a feat in and of itself. seriously, who thought this is ok. unless I'm missing something major, whoever designs this have poprock for brain 😤
the game is OK, but a step down from Shadow of Mordor imo. /rantover
To be honest the two expansions are much better epilogues
I would love this game if not for that control scheme
i basically rage quit because defending the castle is near impossible not because it's hard, but because i can't revive my orcs when i keep draining the enemies.
oh I forgot, you use it to kill boss enemies, too
so 4 functions on one button, hit it, you have 25% chance to do what you want. good luck xD
Yeah I remember how clunky the controls were
Nemesis system is fun. Storming the castle is fun. Parkouring around the map is fun. Story is acceptable.
I mean I did finish the game till the epilogue, after all. But yeah, the control... 😔
Anyone remember Primordia? The successor called Strangeland was just released! I feel like June is gonna be point-and-click month for me (got Samorost in queue).
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CBqDgGlGLlw
Coming to Windows on May 25th, 2021!
Wishlist on Steam here: https://store.steampowered.com/app/1369520/Strangeland/
You wake in a surreal carnival, where a woman cries out to you before leaping to her death. Who was she? And who are you? The denizens and devices of Strangeland answer with riddles, puzzles, and warnings of a Dark Thing lurking ...
oh boah
like that kind of games, with distinctive worlds, living by its own rules
speaking of Samorost
quick question, folks
and Machinarium, which has some similar features with Primordia
what are some cool and cheap couch co-op games i could quickly get on steam right now?
bonus points for rougelites
hard mode: no spelunky, isaac, blazing beaks and streets of rogue
RoR2 is
enter the gungeon has coop
played it to death already
that's why im asking
cause im kinda running out of options here
can't actually think of many couch co-op games at all
dual core is not a roguelike but has couch coop
yeah couch coop is not something all too common
yeah
Gungeon?
Maybe Children of Morta? It's really good and it was designed with co-op in mind. And it's rogue-lite. Not cheap though, but maybe keep an eye out for sale.
20XX, 30XX, Necrodancer, Divinity: Original Sin 1 & 2, Darksiders Genesis, Battleblock Theater, Gauntlet, Magicka 1 & 2, Mercenary Kings, Risk of Rain
Spelunky, Spelunky 2, Wizard of Legend
to go off of battleblock about anything by behemoth is a solid co op game and i can vouch for wizard of legend. however for morta i wasnt a big fan. me and my stepbrother played co op and we never finished because it was a repetitive slog. after like the first area it devolved into just hit and run due to the sheer size of hoards and just got really grindy
There is a mod call Nuclear Throne Together and Territorial Expansion that allows you to do multiplayer.
A very casual and potentially fun one is Pac-man 256 for $1 right now on Humble Bundle. Haven't tested it but it seems like a fun party game with some roguelite elements. Otherwise yeah, Risk of Rain 2 is perhaps the tried and true coop roguelite
yeah its actually super easy to use, ive used it to play with my friends online
Or you can go old school and play classic games like Contra, Snow Bros, etc.
Micro Mages is also a good modern NES game with couch coop.
Yeah I like NT, funny thing though, I have it through the BLM Bundle
It doesn't have dailies, but the pirated version does xD
the BLM bundle is so great, im still parsing through some of the games there
theres some hidden gems
Guys. Library of Ruina releases in 3 days and I'm really counting down the hours
Unrailed is on sale
Kingdom Two Crowns is quite fun imo but not for everybody
Brothers a tale of two sons is 3 Euros so that's a steal
👀

They got the time zone wrong for us though
It’s currently CEST - not CET, but I guess it doesn’t matter much in the end
Just fun that they got British summer time right but not Central European summer time

A friend reccomended me HACK G.U but I would want a second opinion of someone who has played it
X-men games?
Reasonably interesting characters, decent story, abysmal gameplay
Its excruciatingly boring to actually play, and the environments are all the same
Remaster or OG?
Ok, Thanks
The saga of misfortune continues
Yesterday my game crashed
Today I manage to beach my seamoth
It is nothing more then a glorified beacon now
Have you played the Yakuza games, Albino?
From the ravaged streets of Raccoon City to the black Fog of the Entity’s Realm. The hunt is on…
The Resident Evil Chapter is coming to Dead by Daylight on June 15th. It includes a Killer, The Nemesis; two Survivors, Leon S. Kennedy and Jill Valentine; and a new map of the iconic Raccoon City police station.

Called it by a day lmao
Played 0 one day in a friends's home
Not my style tbh
The humor was top-notch
love how the new map is almost a recreation from the re2remake
idk what that means but F
Basically I can’t get it out into the water, but since I do remember where I beached it I can just use the waypoint that seamoth has as a glorified beacon - a worse one even since I can’t change the name of it

On the plus side me making a new seamoth gave me the chance to also make a prawn suit so now I got that too
Dead By Daylight
a.k.a
Nemesis will be scarier here than he is in RE3MAKE
Godm so many games to play :/
and yet nothing to play stares at my backlog
I have a problem that once I finish a game I need a cooldown period to mull over it
that's so true, for a good book or a good game. you need downtime afterwards to reflect on your experiences and on the meaning of life in general
you guys reflect on the meaning of life after you play video games?
wow I just beat Paw Patrol: on a Roll, I'm gonna have an existential crisis
/j
lol i was thinking more along the lines of pyre
I reflect on the absurdity and fleetingness of life every time I drop a long line in Tetris. Look at that, all of that work to create a tetris setup and yet we derive pleasure not from seeing it built up but for it to disappear. In fact, the more often it disappears, the better. Is that what life is? Putting so much effort into setting up the perfect career, family but somehow we always have that urge of self destruction?
Oh the absurdity. Truly there is no game more philosophical than Tetris.
seeing a good story through to the end has me thinking about life in general. finishing a bad story does not have the same affect: i’m more likely to find something better as soon as i can
tetris, the pinnacle of gaming
this, but also kinda unironically.
Danganronpa was this for me too, even though its elevator pitch doesn't show it
If we do get another SGG VN I'll be over the moon
FOLKS
holy macaroni
thanks for the help
turns out that children of morta is...
exactly what i was looking for
it's actually really, really good
i mean - hell - it gives me more diablo vibes than diablo 3 did
and it's one hell of a couch co-op game
and it clearly takes a lot of inspiration from SGGs
so it checks all the boxes
thanks again @fervent gyro
oh...
ooohh noooo...
look what they did
look what they did to my boi!
MAH BOAH!
Hah. Not many times you get to see Ace Combat asking for recommendations. Even fewer times he'll like it so much

naaah mate aerith totally lives, play ff7 it's a good game
Danganronpa?

wow - i'm getting some serious diablo 2 vibes here
and those are some damn good vibes
well, Night in the woods, Nier Automata, What remains of Edit Finch, Soma.. For me were about existential crisis from the beginning
But I'm easy to get sentimental, even some random mmo quests can make me think a lot
add to this that one scene from TNC and you're on point there
and sh2, maybe
and... any of the SGG games now that i think about it
My friend was literally crying for two days after Pyre
🏀
TNC?
wolfenstein 2: the new collosus
which is either a second, a third, a seventh, or ninth game in the series - depending on how you look at things
yeha I get that
I feel that sometimes

actually - let me scratch that and say TNO
which stands for wolfenstein: the new order
which is either a first, a fifth or a seventh game in the series
WOW this series is dumb
I recommend This War of Mine (especially Stories) and Frostpunk for some deep post-game reflections regarding life & humanity (& morality). I cried so hard after first part of This War of Mine Stories...
Finish Omori and you won't stop thinking on the game for a week
how do you delete other people's comments

aaaaaaaaaaaannnnd here is where i do my magic and somehow connect this weird topic back to oldschool FPS games

watch this
- woosh *

there is a game called "super noahs ark 3d"
and it runs on the wolfenstein 3d engine
name me an old school game that actually feels good to control
that's right, you can't
Tick tack toe felt pretty good
any traditional fighting game lol
like ive played sf2 and it still felt nice
- inhales *

doom, doom 2, ultimate doom, final doom, doom64 * coughs *
quake 1, quake 2, quake 3, RTCW, half life and it's expansions, unreal, the build engine trinity
and with the power of sourceports (which is how most of them are played nowadays anyway) we can get more obscure stuff like powerslave, turok, chasm and so on
then after 2000 we can start with both serious sam games and keeeeeep going all the way up to 2020 depending on where you draw the line in "oldschool" with stuff like dusk, amid evil, viscerafest, ion fury, nightmare reaper (kinda) and blah blah blah
exhales
i should try doom
i think nineties FPSs are way more accessible than most people think
just bind your controls to WASD and you can play them pretty much the way you play most modern games
i thought you should use hjkl like a true chad
I use .oeu
Goodnight ace combat jpeg dog
Well I'm not joking when I say I use .oeu
I switched keyboard layouts so all my controls are weird
We can't talk about controls and not mention the guy that escaped in Hades with an actual pom controller
They what
oh you wanna talk about weird meme controllers?
let me show you something
Eyeball thing from doom
cacodemon
Here it is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QEg3iC1O_HM

anyway gimme a minute here i can't find it
Nice
aw dang it
the video i wanted to show you is now private
I want to make a prediction. In 10-15 years, you can use a Chromebook to play most games with Cloud services.
Personally built rigs are only necessary if you want to play in VR with actual motion tracking.
This wasn't my lock-on pomegranate
anyways
They don't escape on that video but I'm watching a video where they beat em4 with the pom controller and it is epic
lock-on pomegranate isn't as funny as lock-on banana
Must be the one I saw the first time
Did you say banana controller
banana controller
haha banana controller brrrr

ah ok
that's not the one i wanted to show you but it will have to do
there was this one video where someone...
turned a toy trumpet into a controller and played doom with it because * memes *
but there wasn't enough buttons on it
it's funny how WASD is now a ubiquitous way to play FPS
so the dude making it slapped a microphone inside and he literally had to doot to shoot
I prefer to move using wasd

arrow keys aren't needed anymore

oh yeah?
do you use your steering wheel like that?

I actually had so much fun recording this video with my dad. Also I haven't uploaded in a few days because I've had PC problems, they're fixed now so we should be good. :)
- skkkrrrrrt *

The drum controller cracks me up
but yeah - if you wanna watch people playing games on some really weird hardware - check out the "it runs doom" trend
it's got people playing on basically anything that has a display
i've seen people playing it on tiny printer displays, earliest digital cameras from 1998, ATMs, billboards, watches, calculators, cars ||ey?
||, literal potatoes, osciloscopes, keyboards (as in - using a keyboard with tiny displays built in keys), lab equipment, karaoke machines, doom in doom (as in - a game ran in a game), and a whole piano... because why not https://youtu.be/sJu997jwBcA
We got this old piano and brought it back to life... or death.
it's... actually quite interesting read
Nice
i mean - hell - not to long ago i've seen someone playing it in vanilla factorio
as in - some absolute mad lad made a chain of machines that can somehow do logic specific enough to built a game in it... and then he made
because of course he did
AND THEN HE MADE A WORKING DISPLAY OUT OF CONVEYOR BELTS AND PLAYED ON IT
i... i can't...
i just can't

Well it probably only worked because of their gaming chair

well sheeeeesh
turns out children of morta is really, really good
that rougelite mode?
that's just what i was looking for
it fills that hole left in my heart by diablo 3
and it turns out...
you can bind your keys! even on a controller!
10/10, Amerigo Vespucci approves
I think I’ve forgotten what I’m actually supposed to do in subnautica cuz I’m basically just treating it like underwater Minecraft at this point
Gotta build that base up real nice
I just watched recent RTgame's subnautica below zero highlights
I had some panic attacks
You're supposed to escape Shadow
It wasn't that good me but glad you're enjoying it
But why would I ever want to escape?
It’s so calming there
I love being in the water
Sure, some things want to eat me, but that’s how it is in the ocean IRL too
I guess I’m really bad at subnautica
the monhun update is arright
the stories 2 stuff is beyond great. they've sorted out the major issues with the first game and keep showing new monsters and returning characters
the rise stuff is... not. next time they release another horrible knockoff deviant and dare to call it a major update i'm gonna cry. literally the best part of the whole update was the lil dragon outfit for your cohoot
I s ranked 2 re8 stages yesterday
Fun spoiler
I don’t mind - maybe I’ll remember to escape from that one when I get to that game then
i think thats more than a "knockoff deviant"
they only confirmed 2 monsters but wasnt there a "and more" on the monster reveal so assuming we get some more just shadowed like we did for bazel
also the valstrax is literally a new one
i dont see why youre even complaining about variety with monsters in the first place
would you rather just not have variation even if its just called apex
also new ending
yea thats much much more than just a "knockoff deviant"
also confirmed collabs and more dlc
theres little to no ground to complain
you make it sound like they only added val and apex zino but they did soooo much more
I mean, it also bears mentioning that it's a free update
sorry, let me rephrase
nothing interesting added
if the end fight is just both serpents together then that's really lackluster seeing as that's literally nothing new-done
the apexes are literally just lackluster versions of the 'strong monster' gimmick every other game had. one new rampage move each, and zero reason to actually fight them at all
i don't like val
like tbh the only thing i'd actually do of this patch is the event and dlc stuff if i wasn't a completionist
for that reason i'm not happy
ok, alright
after playing it for like... 10 hours
there are some nits i'm ready to pick in children of morta
first of all - and this is a personal thing - there's no loot
at least give me a new shield or a sword or a bow or something
and second - this game is way too easy for a roguelite
it's not like... super easy
but when a scrub like me is able to finish the whole run on normal on his second attempt
and then finish hard on my first attempt (while fighting bosses i've never seen before) that means the difficulty needs some tweaking
we still don't even have beta/gunner/whatever armours
or the monsters that were clearly meant to be in originally, like tetsu and zam
i just want frogs and fashion, instead all i'm getting is 'go crown farm the worse form of a monster so horrible that it triggers your ptsd from gu'
Is $16 for skyrim worth it on the PS5? idk if ill even like it. and i dont have a gaming PC
Oh?
You say that like it’s something new
What about that picture is supposed to induce an existential crisis?
Morrowind was my Childhood and this image is making me feel too old
Yeah it was like my third pc game ever
smh it was my birthday that was the milestone
so you recommend skyrim , i assume?
I turned 7 that year
Granted The other 2 haven't aged that well in gameplay terms
And you always find something to amuse yourself with
i know you can mod it on ps5. i dont plan on going too crazy with it, maybe just quality of life stuff and graphics
but idk if ill like the gameplay of skyrim. its combat isnt praised by everyone is it?
I was raised by skooma smuggling khajiit
It’s in my blood to take things that don’t belong to me
It’s more about exploration imo
Yeah about forgetting the main quest and doing your thing
I did once
Also, I need to stop challenging giants when I’m under lvl 10
Takes so long to kill them
so if i enjoyed witcher 3 even tho hating its combat, ill probably like skyrim?
Skyrim is more open about how to go on combat tho
witcher has good writing at least
Read the books
yea im sure witcher 3 combat is more streamlined and focused comparatively
While Gerard is almost mainly a Swordsman with magic cincoctions to fall on
Don’t go through Skyrim without reading some of the books
Skyrim has much more Combat styles
you mean like actual books, or in game book lore? lol
In game books
Dang I can’t even mention one of them in here
I think
Let’s hide just in case
Like ||the lusty argonian maid|| series - it’s actually pretty fun poetry
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7xqfC80SRGU
Todd Howard cracks me up
If you can call it poetry
I haven't opened that link because I already know what's behind it
But there’s so many books in Skyrim - I wasn’t kidding when I said I try not to steal every book ever
Spoiler*
Skyrim is an experience for sure
I once had a companion that was only carrying books
Cuz I kept stealing them
And then forgetting to go home
Anyways
Today in subnautica
I made my base even bigger, keep feeling like I’m forgetting about something important, got the final cyclops blueprint parts & made a moonpool
also that does remind me, if you are fan or well interested in the elder scroll series there is a nice analysis series on it

Also, my prawn suit almost got eaten by a reaper, but I somehow was just standing enough inside a wreck for it to not hit me, so I survived
which is in total 4 hours
I then got warped out & killed by a warper
And then my switch ran out of power so the game force quit cuz I forgot to plug in the power
So now it’s gonna be fun to see if I enter to the prawn suit being ok or it being far away XD
ill probably play skyrim last, since i expect it to be a huge neverending game lol
But then I always end up playing khajiit so
oh yeah skyrim is never ending
oh yeah?
i've got something better here
gta vice city is perfectly in the middle between today and the time period it's set in
I think I tend to follow the stormcloaks out of the tutorial, but then I get recruited by the empire & never commit to either
literally since it has always generating qeusts
we're... all so old
It's more than never ending, Once you have done everything. You'll have forgotten the first runs so you have to start all over again to see everything
Plus
You can do a new run for every race
To experience the different bonuses
I just happen to like night vision & claws + cats
And it fits my skooma smuggler backstory
And then become the boss of every guild in Skyrim
Choose all outcomes in every world-based conflict
Get all romances 👀
and then wonder why you can't be werewolf and vampire at the same time and scream at the sky for such unfairness
you know what, i might just wait till i get a gaming pc in a few years to play skyrim. im seeing these ultra high graphic mods for it on PC. i dont think you can pull those off on a ps5 can you ? lol

I wouldn’t know
I play on switch these days
I’ve experienced it looking good, now I just want it portable
Ah!!
I forgot my subnautica milestone!
I managed to scan a juvenile ghost leviathan
It’s so cute~~
It tried eating me twice, sure & almost ate my prawn suit too, but it was adorable & glowy & I’m still not sure how I found that place where it lives..
I think I just fell down a hole
so it's an eldritch abomination from the deepest, uncharted reaches of earth
it's called "ghost leviathan"
it tried to eat you... twice
and it glows
sorry but nothing about this screams "cute" to me
it's a Juvenile
it's cute

Cute
skyrim is not the best game, but you'll come back to it again and again
bc you know, that a part of your soul is out there, among forests and rivers
was so excited to visit it again, 800 years before, 7 years later in TESO.. it still has the atmosphere
shame there's no Whiterun though
Ive decided ill wait till i get a gaming pc in a few years to play skyrim. its cheaper on pc and ill get more mods
ty for all of your answers! i ended up purchasing persona 5 royale and titanfall 2 for $31 total.
As cool as the JRPG about Gnosticism
idk what either of those mean but i look forward to it lol
Xenogears
any major news about any hades updates btw? or any idea if hades will ever come to mobile or other consoles?
hades questions go in #h1-discussion , but to answer your question, no. if they announce anything major it will pop up in #announcements. further content updates are unlikely as hades is ultimately a finished narrative experience, not an ongoing one. that's not to say content is never coming, as no one knows whether it will or not besides supergiant, but they usually move on to a new project when they finish a game.

Hats
Yes, yeeeeeeesh
here's hoping this one learns from 11 and has a good soundtrack
Just get a new composer who isn't a complete dingus
"a complete dingus"

and now i wanna watch dankpods again
Yeah he's pretty Not Great despite being a talented composer
Considering he's the entire reason DQ11 sounds bad to begin with, dude needs to get his head out of his rear
Lmao
Save & Sound Festival starts soon, I'm curious how it's gonna look like:

ALRIGHT GAMERS! MODS YOU MIGHT WANT TO TAG EVERYONE FOR THIS.
i have a lot of spare humble bundle keys. Like, a lot. Part of this is because I used to buy humble bundles when the entire bundle was cheaper than a single game I wanted to buy. What this means is that the vast majority of the keys here I don't want and have no use for, but it's possible I might have missed a cool game or two that I do want.
So, I've compiled a list of all the unredeemed keys I have. Basically, tell me which game you want, i'll google it to see if it looks like a game I'll want to play. If it isn't, I'll gladly give you the key :)

She doesn't romance anyone in HZD but the only two characters she doesn't rebuke the advamces is Erend and Vanasha
That's why the maybe
As she outright shuts down any other person that hits on her
ok, im gonna get some flack for asking this, but...
am i the only one who utterly hates this current trend of protagonists constantly talking to themselves only to state the most obvious things to us?
stuff that doesn't need explaining?
I do that irl
This is a VERY heavily scripted sequence tho
So I don’t notice it in the game
like - i don't mind protags talking to themselves during gameplay - i mean, hell - max payne did that as far back as 2001 and it did it well
I don't mind as long as the frequency is low
for example, I don't need to hear The wind's howling for 50th time Geralt
Unless I see lips moving it’s an internal monologue
but it was always to give us a glimpse of his character
and the choice of words was always more interesting than "oh that's done - i gotta go back to do x"
just so that the player doesn't forget in those like... 30 seconds of combat
Shepard: Gotta go
oh that's done - i gotta go back to do x
OK, I don't mind that. My goldfish brain can't remember most things.
Ye, this lets player I watched do HZD kept forgetting what she was supposed to do all the time
She was very happy for the constant reminders
Also Aloy just Legolas-ed the heck out of that elephant
That counted as one
I wish I can play that cinematically
A storm also comes.
I love how they don't even pretend that's a twist
Eren?
i bet he's got some fetch quests for you in this game
he's gonna make you run some Erends
Erend
also Chrono Trigger is fire yo
He was the third/fourth character with most screentime in the game
even 25 years later
Ok, today in subnautica:
Found some more wrecks w good databanks
Stumbled into an ominous area where there’s apparently multiple leviathans..
Made some alien tanks so now I can hatch eggs yay
And I got killed 3 times by plants because I didn’t notice that if I just stood still a while after getting hurt my hp recovered >.>
I have yet again failed to make any effort towards escaping this planet & now my base looks even prettier
yup lol
i slep
They already 15 min tho
this sort of stuff clearly isn't for me

Can I have an Amen in the chat?
Amen
i mean
i flippin hate video games too
what am i even doing here?
viddy gaems are dumb

brb gonna go and play some children of morta
no one hates games more than gamers
i would say thats just a given for most live service models. when i was more active with mmos during the 2000s thats was a popular sentiment with certain games too, no one hated them more than the people playing them
Think this is true mostly since you know the fact they are more likely to be changed around constantly and updated to have new stuff which can break the current set up of the game or not.
The nerfs..
nah - i just hate a lot of those modern trends in the AAA industry
especially considering how lately sony loves to indulge in like...
all of them, basically
I’m not sure I’ll ever escape this planet
It’s so relaxing just sitting & watching my alien containment unit
The power creep.
just give elon musk a few more years
he's gonna yeet us to mars in his tesla cars
and we're all gonna get in on it as long as his shodan AI keeps feeding us those procedurally generated memes
Ive mostly only experienced nerfs
return tickets not included
I love how old League champs are like simple and straight forward, and new ones have their skill descriptions as long as a novel.
I understood maybe 30% of that statement
same
Elon Musk is a bad person.
If you say so
I mean
Why would I want to leave this planet anyways?!
I’m at least 3m credits in debt
Well, we're on our way to make it really hostile to human life.
free demons to shoot without any of those pesky moral dilemmas and stuff
And It’s only been rising since then I bet
???
I’m talking about leaving subnautica planet
Not earth >.>
Why would you try to escape knowing you’ll only be in debt when you’re perfectly capable of surviving & living on your own on this beautiful ocean planet
alone on a foreign planet is, well, lonely
i mean...
- looks out the window *
there's people here
and last time i checked there's no people on mars
only demons

so the choice is obvious
No SGG games on Mars either
just pack a laptop

Calling it the most scandalous cover-up of the past half century, dim-witted conspiracy theorist Daniel Burgess told reporters Thursday he believes the U.S. government has, for years, been clandestinely exercising total control over the National Aeronautics and Space Administration.

surely elon senpai would be able to get you at least a dial up there
This guy makes sense
Nah
You got alien fishy friends
Who needs people
are they friends if they try to kill you?
For a moment I thought you were talking about cats
Exactly
Cats be the same
My cat loves to bite & scratch me if I do something wrong - like petting him when he doesn’t want that
Doesn’t mean I love him any less
He too cute
FC6? (just guessing; aesthetic and petting reminds me of FC. Also the pixelated snoote and the person's clothes and woody background)
Recently started playing the Borderlands Collection on my Switch, and I hate to say this, but it feels… underwhelming. Enemies are bullet sponges, and some of them moves way too mobile. Is this how the franchise has always been? Is this game even made with gamepad in mind? Is there something I’m missing here?
BL1 plays like hot garbage imo
The weapon feedback is nonexistent and enemies are very spongy
2 is much better in that regard, and TPS is even better than that
1 doesn't even have unique manufacturer gimmicks
1 has nice XPacs tho
Honestly as much as I clown on 3 for bad writing it's the best gameplay the series has
Interesting and varied hunters and builds, gunplay actually feels good, sliding and mantling is a welcome addition, kicking barrels away with melee is great
The worst thing about BL1 is the fov of like 60 or sth
And you hack your way around that
It seems I’m not alone then. All that said though, I do see the addictiveness of it though, playing BL1, the game gently pushes you forward to keep playing it for the loot, which is nice imo, but I think that was the only thing that kept me playing for a few more hours. Chapter 2 and I finally dropped it, for now
Like I said, 2 is much, much better
2 for the time was incredible
I played through 2 two years ago and it holds up.
They really hit their sweet spot on the tone.
The game's atmosphere is pitch black the entire time through, it's awful to be on Pandora.
The thing is that it's played for comedy 95% of the time, and the writing is genuinely good.
Borderlands 2 is a very funny game.
But the dramatic writing is just as good. You spend 5 hours laughing your [REDACTED] off and then get gut punch and it's just immaculate.
I think it'll go down in history as one of the best in the genre.
It’s another sad day
Once again my game crashed just after I’d done major changes to my base
I’ll take this as a sign to stop playing for now & get back to it tomorrow
Nice
At least this time I know I’ll still have a base when I get back on
Just not the updated one
No
Oh
It was just as I was making the last change
Oh, I seem to have received a call.
I think it was a message, Schpoon
Ah, it was a Brooklyn 99 reference. I think Holt says he gets a call.
Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's a message
go kart man has once again been censored
*ahem*
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
WHY CAN'T I poopPOST IN MIITOPIA WITHOUT AN NSO SUBSCRIPTION
every day 😔
I finally found a use for Miigaera and I don't even want to play the game anymore
hate that ninty jumped on the online sub train, we already pay for internet and games, why do we also have to pay to get online with those games
awful practice i wish would go away, these aren't mmos
i was so surprised when i had to get a separate sub for online play with the switch
I wouldn't even be mad at this if this was a concept introduced with the demo
Spoiler Alert: IT WASN'T
it's just a general consumer unfriendly practice that only exists to squeeze more money from customers
xbox has been doing it from the very beginning and does offer some great deals so i can let them slide with it but ninty..... no excuse
don't they do that because servers are expensive to run?
absolutely bonkers to me that people have normalized paying an additional fee to use online features for the game they purchased on the internet connection they already pay for
and even then if you got some cool deals with it I don't think it's that bad
the problem is when it's crappy and I hate it
nintendo only owns some of the most profitable ip in the world, i don't know what to tell you. yeah any game server is expensive to run, regardless of the game but it's nintendo
at the end of the day they are still a business like any other, c'est la vie i guess
well neither of us have the know-how to run these kinds of servers or the maintenance required so I can't really speak on this issue with a clear perspective
I can, however, speak as a consumer
and in that regard I don't like it
honestly at this point i frankly don't care what it takes to run them and do upkeep, im just inherently against the practice of paying for an online service on top of paying full price 40-60 for games. That's the issue. that's my gripe.
dangit everythime'
fair gripe
👍
I'm gonna go see if I can have multiple save files so I can maybe play this game but instead of poopposting I sub in my friends/people I know
and if that doesn't work I will be sufficiently and utterly disappointed
may i suggest trash posting as an alternate server friendly phrase that doesn't look as silly lol
poopposting is funny though
😭
I like it
i mean idk how expensive server upkeep is but i feel like they'd still be making hundreds of millions or even billions of dollars a yr or however much they make even without premium services
again like, ninty only owns some of the most profitable ip in the world, i really don't have any sympathy for whatever their server costs are lol im just a consumer disgruntled at more and more things in my life being monetized as the years go on
yeah that's kinda what companies are ultimately out to do
and they are. they are making lots and lots of money
they're not our friends
yeah it's a harsh fact of life
in 2021 they made 5.6 billion
wait WHAT
y'know I kinda want to bring up a point here but it'd just be kinda fruitless in the long run unless someone pulls up a document of where their spending goes I dunno
i mean idk where their spending goes but like this is an unfathomable amount of money
it is more than covering whatever they're spending
people crunched the numbers on pokemon bank/home and it's like orders of magnitude less than what GDrive/Dropbox gives for free
i think the gaming industry as a whole saw huge profits since last year due to everyone being stuck at home lol
why does nintendo even want money like they have money to support everyone for whole lifetimes
shareholders
yeah those guys
willing to bet they wanted NSO
on my life
alright so yeah I'm pretty upset rn
I'm gonna go complain some more to people who don't care alright see y'all later
"If you can afford to make less, make less." - says no one ever.
When a company's worth (and the economy in general) is based on growth, things go downhill quickly because that stuff isn't sustainable.
the thing about earning money is that you don't just want money to repay what you've spent to earn that money
you also want money to save up in case of emergency or a bad year or any number of other things
and then it's the money that goes to people too
and then you have the possible leftover money
and money put into research & development
R&D is important
Yes. But you can do all that and not having to resort to scummy tactics.
Depends
Earning profits obviously is the goal of every business. But the expectation of earning increasing profit every year is stupid, and yet here we are.
When you only make enough to sustain, you’re not growing
And growth is what it’s all about
that's the goal though.. to earn more & more..
do they have bad ways of doing it? yes
is it stupid? no
is it unrealistic? maybe
It is stupid because it's so nearsighted.
When we’re talking about earnings, we’re really just talking about revenue. Profit is a different story
Because profit means different things depending on what the company is pursuing
Profit = Revenue - Cost
You can put RnD with profit money
No you can't and you shouldn't
Or you can put it in the books as costs
RnD is part of cost, always has been.
That really depends on what is actually being RnD’d
I think maybe we should move this
Anyway, this is too far from vidya gaem
We can say RnD but it can really mean so many different things as we really look into company records
I’m sorry if I’m overboard and going off channel topic
Gen chat?
what have I done /j
Yeah
Hmm, NFS Heat is on sale now, anyone played it? I was thinking about getting it for a while now...
what's that
need for speed
racing?
also nba 2k20 is free on epic lol
@dire condor saying that I feel like it is being tiresome for me. I don’t hate it, but I’m finding it hard to continue on
Like I’ve said, it’s probably that roguelikes has spoiled me too much
has anyone here played realm of the mad god exalt
I played some of it and couldn't really get into it
How do you feel about that aspect in Hades?
I complete a 20min run on Hades and I move on with my day
Speaking of roguelites. Ever heard of Getsu Fuuma Den?
Yup. Seen some gameplay, looks very DC inspired to me.
Played like two hours of it. P good
Saw Haelian playing it, looks cool but I’m gonna wait for full release to really get into watching or playing it
I didn't enjoy DC as much. (As in I did enjoy it, just not as much as other Rogue)
Ah well
dc
If it’s anything like DC, I’ll probably gonna like it, that’s all I can say for now
what is dc
Dark Coals
dead cells
ah
Dead Cells
okay
Witcher 3: Came for the story/graphics, stayed for the story/graphics.
Hades: Came for the gameplay, stayed for the gameplay.
dark coals yes
District of Columbia
Dangan Cumbia
I just made cthulhu
m a d e ?
Pic or it didn't happen
it seems if you combine the universe with monster you get cthulhu
Wriggle wriggle
So basically you like to play your games in short bursts?
Literally ||the ending of Darkest Dungeon||
what game
little alchemy 2 with the myths & monsters upgrade
it's just a little game where you combine elements to make new things
Yeah, pretty good loops for me, right now I’m focusing on a couple more games and that short loops works for me
I see
understandable
I think I remember tentacles with Cthulhu
It's cute
hmmm... so I could combine evil with immortality & get a demon
but I can't combine good & immortality
I wonder how I make angels
I'm checking out Chrono Trigger for the first time yesterday and boy. It does live up to its reputation.
aaaah
The game feels modern, somehow
is little alchemy 1 better or 2
they're both fun, but 2 is maybe better?
Chrono Trigger really is ahead of it’s time
hmm
It really does.
I wish Chrono Trigger was on NSO
My mind was blown when the racing sequence happened.
Is Chrono Trigger even on the Switch?
I mean it's very barebone racing, but still
I don't think so? It's available on Steam and Mobile
Damn, no Crono on Switch
Afaik they are ok now, bugs are fixed, graphics are tweaked, etc.
I remembered playing it first on mobile, it’s good there
Oh on mobile. Interesting
If only the App Store purchases aren’t Apple exclusive
Shame
Do we talk about Epic vs. Apple
Epoch
@sleek quiver whats ur favorite video game of all time?
It’s over, right? Verge says it’s over lol
It's not over till someone ||holds hands||
They trial is over but the verdict isn't.
How lewd
Erm, hard to say, but if we’re going to talk about my childhood days, probably Final Fantasy games. I’ve played all the classics ones up to FFIX, and am thinking of buying FFX and FFXII soon
Noice which one is ur favorite
Id say my favorite of all time is Breath of the Wild
FFIX
Never played much FF
nice
ffta2 is SO good
I am loving Chrono Trigger so FF is up next.
Ohh, FF Tactics
minus the horrific trap mechanic and the uhhhh transphobia
Played all 3 too
I think my fave game of all time is Tetris, cuz I can always count on it & return to it
and there's always new versions of it popping up
Based.
and I've been playing tetris since I was 2-3 years old
i didn't play 1 but i started with 2, which i loved, although i don't think id like it that much these days
FFT is weird because the best one gameplay-wise is the newest one, FFTA2, but the most favorite’d one is the classic FFT
Solid choice
i tried playing the original quite awhile ago, but couldn't get into it. but i might like it now that im older
It lacks the modern touches of today’s gaming. Story-wise, it’s really good, very serious war story tones
the story gets lightened up as the games go along, it seems
im so disappointed there will never be another one though :(
Most hour game?
It is. No comment, because objectively, I like all 3
Across a franchise or one specific title?
Mine is League, for better or for worse. And then probably Starcraft II
Specific title
probably Tetris
I no longer enjoy either of which
Probably Dead Cells
considering how long I've been playing it - how many years
definitely ffta2. ive played penalty about 500 or 600 hrs on it. this is over many years, however
Hundreds of Dead Cells hours both on mobile and Switch
hell maybe like 700?
ive had it since it first came out
i always play it the exact same way too
The FFTA games really do need a port tbh
No ports yet
While FFT is thriving on mobile, the latest platform it’s on lol
i think they'd do well as ports
i might get the mobile fft actually
have you tried it? does it hold up well? @sleek quiver
It’s good, as far as mobile ports go. Controls are a bit janky, but that’s to be expected. Heard controller support is there but haven’t tried it. All in all, I think it is the latest platforms the game is officially available on, the last one before this was on the PSP
So, it’s not like we have much of a choice
i actually have a psp somewhere lmao and i did have the name at some point..... the name might be at my parents' or i sold out when i got rid of a bunch of games in high school
I will just say that it will be very nice to play it on a PSP lol
man i am looking it up on ebay out of curiousity
ffta2 is going for a Lot
i mean not a Lot-a lot but $50 is nothing to sneeze at

that's a fire hazard right there
or...
you're soon gonna have a bunch of tiny little baby batteries
yeah it's been over 8 yrs since ive last used my psp
As long as it's not turned on it's fine
Right?
My PSP is just fine except for the fact that the paint/lacquer is chipping off in some places >.>

that game died
so hard
i played one game on the new map and its so big
i get lost
Well, now kids that literally cannot pay for games can play it too
Wouldn't really call dead more so less mainstream or popular than it was at that moment, which is fine for every game to be like that imo especially multiplayer due to their nature of having to be played on regular occasions.
Hi salty,
That means you are the essence of the earth. Good job.
Whether you call them roguelikes, roguelites, or "games like rogue," we're bundling them all together into one convenient genre for our picks of the Top 10 Roguelikes of all time.
For the purpose of this video, we're defining a "Rogue-like" as a game that features both procedural generation and permadeath as core elements of gameplay (ie: It...
Honestly, not a bad list from IGN.
The comment section is as salty as always.
Minecraft is boring and overrated. I win. You lose.
how dare you
Imagine playing a kid's game.
Yep, exactly my point, the game is made for kids.
I agree with this actually
I only ever played minecraft because of peer pressure
never really enjoyed it
Terraria tho
😩
ye terraria is great
terraria is my favorite wiki based game.
Terraria is my favorite game that I haven't played.
nice
I like minecraft
but I just like resource gathering in general
I don't really do much else in minecraft
I sometimes make a house I guess
i love minecraft but i havent played it in years
Terraria is a game I hear about a lot, tried out a few times and couldn't really get into, but good for people who can get into it!
I didn't like terraria
Alright back to playing more Chrono Trigger
I'm trying not to be eaten myself
I somehow stumbled upon yet another juvenile ghost leviathan
anybody got some good games to recommend me?
subnautica
hades
