I also don't really get how attack / cast / special are meant to be used in this game as attack and special in particular kind of cancel out each other... so the game always pushes special upgrades on you and there is no reason for you to ever use them

at least using a bow for example

If you think it's taking way too long, you can F10, so they can look into it. They've made changes to dialogue priority sometimes based on feedback like that, and there are too many possibilities to plan ahead for everything. That dialogue for the hidden aspect should have some priority, though, so you should see it over random quotes for sure.

Most of the time for such things, the answer is to just keep talking to people who have a ! on their head.

for hangover builds you should get low tolerance (dio and aphro duo) and try to get curse of vengeance to try to get curse of nausea (ares and dio duo boon)

4th bow doesn't care too much for Low Tolerance. Maybe if you have Passion Dash to reliably apply Weak before Hangover.

Just making sure, duo boons are über powerful boons you get after getting a couple/bunch of prerequisite boons from two specific gods, correct?

There's specific requirements for every duo boon. You can check in the codex.
But not all of them are amazingly powerful. Some are gimmicky, some are fun.
Just as an example, I once had a sword build. I got offered ||Curse of Drowning||. Took it and I barely managed to escape after doing great during the earlier part of the run 😦

To get the most out of the game I'd suggest to leave finding those to chance rather than reading about them and ruining the surprise. At least at the beginning
