It’s +15 at max

That’s quite large

Zag shield’s strength is in simplicity. What you see is exactly what you get

Very powerful, large attack and dash attack hit boxes that work great with a variety of offensive and defensive boons

And a bouncing special that functions like a utility button to apply curses with

+15 doesn’t sound like much, but remember 2 things: 1: it’s base attack damage, which is the most valuable kind of all because it makes everything else around it scale that much more

And 2: that +15 goes on your dash attack too, which is what you should be using often. Shield and zag shield specifically probably has the best dash attack in the game, and that +15 base damage really matters on what should be your most used attack (dash attack)

Long story short zag shield will taper off somewhat in much later difficulties, but it is the AK-47 of this game. Basic, obvious, utterly reliable and great for new players

All that for 5 measly blood. That’s why I recommend it for people early in the chain. Excellent value for money spent

Make sure you have the House Renovation that upgrades your Dark Thirst, take Trove Trials whenever you can and chase Poseidon boons

do low heat, but do not take poseidon keepsake starting out. take any other god keepsake, fill out as many core slots (attack, special, cast, call, dash) and then take poseidon in asphodel. The reason for this is if you take poseidon as your first god, he will always show you core boons (attack, special etc) and will only show you things like ocean's bounty after rerolling, which is not optimal since even your chances of getting ocean's bounty are low after rerolling.
also, take every chaos gate you see and buy every light of ixion
chaos can give you +x% darkness and gems

absolute most worthwhile mirror perk

if you die later in the run you get a chance to practice the harder stuff more

if you have a reasonably good source of damage, 200+ health, a defiance or two and some resistance boons, you can quite often do the endboss without having to pay much attention

even easier with the ranged weapons since you can play it quite safe but i recommend just pushing through the way you are now

OK apparently damage reduction is multiplicative. So if you have multiple damage reduction effects they multiply each other rather than add up, so you will always take at least some damage

just go for god mode if u want to get the story. best thing abt is that god mode doesn't rlly change anything abt the gameplay beyond making it more accesible to ur skill level

I feel I'm rushing the game however. I'm so close to the end but I have a 6 hour playtime and I have only unlocked a few of the things you get by gifting and only weapons up to the spear. I have only done 12 runs. Would you suggest dying on purpose to unlock more story?

The way the games dialogue algorithms or whatever is very impressive and can make a cohesive story really no matter what pace you go
