one thing i will say is
there is a fairly easy way to get big obol money which i've been using

1. max out the mirror upgrade that gives +15% of your gold each time you clear a region
2. never buy anything in a shop
3. take the troves, take the gold rooms if your build can afford it, take the coin purse as your keepsake in asphodel, etc.
4. get side hustle from hermes if you can
5. buy out the final shop (includes boons to round out your build and either a diamond or a titan blood)

there's a mirror mechanic that helps out with building and rng control. but at the end of the day, it's knowing the different boons and interactions in the game, which takes practice and a lot of playtime

and taking what you have on hand and knowing how to go forward, which also takes a lot of practice

they are tough, but the one thing thats certain, trying to kill theseus with a bull on your back is a pain

Wanted to say I used to do it that way and struggled with the fight for the longest time more than any other encounter, but then I figured out Theseus has WAY less health than Asterius and I pretty much always kill him first. Figuring out Asterius' attack patterns is important to avoiding him, ofc.

@supple linden I'm sure you'll get used to the act 3 fight. It's not that bad, as always just learn attack patterns and movements. Bear in mind that the game is designed in a way that teaches you how to deal with it in advance. Theseus is like the shieldbearer, archer and trial of the gods. Asterius's charge is like the chariot, and the waves are similar to the shieldbearer's as well.

If you practice your discipline in Act 3 hallway fights, you'll just discover you find the attack patterns and correct responses in Act 3 transfer to boss fight really well. (All act bosses are designed with this in mind, it's actually very good game design)

with a good balance of attack and defence

almost all damage is blockable (you need to learn the exceptions) but the damage negation is also directional @idle bolt

plus as SoulHail said you can just charge through any projectiles

Nope, but the shield means you can reserve dashes for those threats

rather than just having to dash dodge everything as other weapons would require

also some of the aspects that shield have available are considered very strong, but the basic weapon is perfectly strong and stable too
