You should probably be dashing and dash-striking way more than you probably do

This more depends on the weapon/aspect than anything else

fast things like rail or fists strikes want flat damage like zeus lightning or dionysus (and sort of Ares)

slow things that deal big damage like bow strikes or sword special scale way better with +% boons

Actually something that’s pretty universally useful is dash boons and your best options are pretty much divine dash for defensive play, and tidal dash for offensive play

Tidal dash does a lot of damage, has really high value when levelled, and will combo well with other pos secondaries like razor shoals and breaking wave to tie more flat damage into the mix, especially when it’s all getting boosted by any global +% you have

there arent going to be that many situations where you will be picking between either a possidon boon or a pom

the choise would depend on the build you are going for

if you are looking for a possidon duo for example you would take the boon, if you happened to not roll the duo but you do get a possidon secondary you could take that

on the other hand if your build consists of like important 2 boons total and you would want levels to be concentrated on those you might want to pick the pom

For reference skelly's revive heals 100 hp
Weakest attack from final boss is 20 in most scenarios, can be made way worse if hit ||with a skull directly, as you take double dmg until it pops out||

The blocked hits also don't stun you so it can be used to oonga boonga/avoid getting combo'd

The fists are pretty beginner friendly. Just hold your attack button and give it the Zeus attack boon and watch stuff die lol

personally i would unlock zeus shield, leave it at the base level and dump my blood into achilles

achilles' ability gives you alot of bonus damage even at low levels and a crazy ammount at high levels

so its a nice bang for you buck

zeus shield special tick damage is pretty negigable even at high levels

(well i mean 30 damage is alright i suppose but regardless)

anyway since the special damage is so low you would use a boon that gives flat damage, dio, zeus, ares

You should give each npc 1 nectar to get their keepsake, aside from that there isnt much of an order but Skelly and the Asphodel npc give defensive keepsakes so they can help you with bosses, and olympian gods give keepsakes that can help you target specific builds so you can start with those. Eventually you'll get all keepsakes anyway.

Basic story is you play as Zagreus, son of Hades, trying to break out of the security measures of the underworld to go find your mom. Your aunts and uncles on Olympus help you along the way, and you do escapes in a roguelite fashion. Every npc has a ton of story to go with them between you and them and usually a few other characters, which you delve into as you play more. I don’t want to spoil too-too much

You have a lot of weapons/aspects at your disposal and the different gods offer you a lot of different ways to make builds for each weapon as you go through different escape attempts

There is no natural instakills in this game, you can technically get traps that deal massive damage with heat modifiers, but that comes later on in this game and even then, I'm pretty sure that you can technically survive them with max health.

i think eris is generally considered the best rail aspect, and hestia is also good but requires a bit more investment

if you're just going for a first clear and don't care about dark thirst, pick whichever weapon you're most comfortable with
and if that happens to be the rail, go for it
but for each weapon, the zag aspects tend not to be that good compared to their other aspects, so invest in a different aspect when you can

To get the Aspect of Beowulf in Hades, you need to first unlock the Guan Yu aspect (Spear's hidden aspect) by investing Titan Blood in other weapons, then spend 5 Titan Blood on the Shield, and finally get a special phrase from Chaos to reveal it,

poseidon is also amazing but mainly as additional damage with tidal dash rather than a direct tie in from artemis where pressure points and hunters mark lets you start crit chaining and tripling a bunch of your hits

and zeus himself because static discharge(Jolted) is stupidly powerful and nabbing splitting bolt is a rather solid dps boost

its all up to playstyle and preference
if you like sword, nemesis is probably the best. only one upgrade is necessary but the rest are good to get
for spear, ive been told achilles is the best but it didnt work very well for me. it also needs more investment than nemesis
for shield, zeus is the best (or the hidden, but you might not have it). zeus is similar to nemesis in that it only needs level one but does like the later ones as well
for fists, both demeter and talos work. ive only used talos and it was pretty fun
for rail, eris and hestia are both solid but hestia is imo more complicated and also needs more levels

basically anything is usable its just what you like but those are some reccomendations

I need some help I keep failing at the final boss I’ve tried everything going full defense, going full offensive and a mix between both but I still haven’t beaten him my preferred weapons is the fists and spear but I can use shield well so should I be putting more effort into my boons or keepsakes as I get what I can manage and not go for specific boons or is it I just need to keep practicing and get better? (Btw I foolishly spent most of my titans blood on the chaos shield so I only have one left and I do also have aspect of Achilles but only level one this was before I joined discord and watched tutorials)

I’d say given you aren’t speedrunning, you should definitely have a mix between offence and defensive choices being made rather than fully going towards both

A healthy mix is definitely more slanted towards dealing damage especially with how much sheer value you can get from select defensive boons compared to trying to go fully into it

Some really strong offensive things are tied to defensive stuff as well like

aphrodite has the highest +% for strike and special and weak is a 30% damage reduction, which works out pretty well

Hyper Sprint from Hermes is also 30% damage reduction and opens Rush Delivery from him for you which is a massive dps increase on any build

(Rush delivery gives you global +% that affects pretty much everything Zag can use to deal damage, based off your bonus movespeed, and hyper sprint doubles your movespeed)

Those together (weak and hyper sprint) practically halve the damagae you take, since damage reduction is multiplicative, (0.7*0.7=0.49 damage taken) result in you having 51% damage resistance for like 2 boons

Can anyone give me tips for Theseus after I kill the Minotaur

Heroes fight.

Asterius

Start by targeting Asterius (the bull), he's the meat of the fight and dealing with Theseus's half phase is a lot easier once the bull is dead.

-Keep yourself behind pillars while fighting Asterius so Theseus can't poke you with the throws.

-Asterius attacks are easier dodged by dashing through them than away from him, as his attacks push him forward, the leap attack also leaves him vulnerable as he has to turn around every time.

-If you see Asterius kneel, go behind a pillar quickly because as soon as Theseus reaches him, he will throw him towards you.

-When Asterius does his bullrush attack towards you, go to a pillar/wall then at the last second, dash through him so he crashes (if in a panic, Theseus can also be used to stop the attack)

Once the bull is dead, how to deal with Theseus

-wait for him to fire off the spear, once he recovers it he takes a few steps back to recover and you can hit him on the retreat.

-the other option is go stand next to him, a white outline will appear indicating his spin attack, dash through him and while he recovers you are free to hit him, this also leaves you at the right distance for him to try the spin attack again, repeat until half health.

-during his phase change you have the biggest opportunity to deal dmg to him as he drops the shield, most gods effects can be dodged by just dashing back and forth through Theseus. (If you have saved a call during the fight, now is your time)

-once the call is over, go back to dodging spear throws/spin attacks until he's dead, just mind the extra AoE from the gods now.

so basically Ive been using bloodfilled vial keepsake for hades strike and switch it out later for athenas owl for her special

I found that getting specific duos gets easier later on but early in the game i would recommend trying to use ranged weapons so you can stay away from hades to dodge. Skelly's keepsake also gives you another revive up to 100hp if you max it out. Sometimes that 4th revive just gets you enough hp to finish off hades. You can also try getting aphrodites call which does 2500dmg when the bar is full combined with call recharging boons like the ones from zeus.

Spear is good with anything really but i find poseidon zeus to be good or ares poseidon. Ares poseidon duo gives makes your cast act like an aoe attached to your character where you only have to use the casts and stand beside enemies and dodge when you need to

Also side note in over 150 runs ive only gotten merciful end twice. It is easier to make a build that relies on making cast boons overpowered than hoping for a duo. The hermes boon quick reload lets the stones return to you faster and getting that boon gives you a chance to get the legendary version next which returns stones instantly so you can spam cast

You can massively increase your odds by filling up your cores, and taking status curse boons (brings it up to roughly 33% odds per boon you pick up to find at least one duo/legendary) and then picking up refreshing nectar or ariadnes yarn or favour boons from chaos gives a hidden +10% per roll that makes it more like 50% for at least one per boon picked up

Merciful End is inconsistent for sure, but there are a few things you can do to really increase the consistency like

making sure all your cores are filled (strike/special/cast/dash) since otherwise they always take 1 boon option away as priority

storm lightning doesn’t really matter for your dps but it does open splitting bolt which is massively useful for zeus builds
