when playing super safe and defensively, doom outdamages every other option easily
one easy way to clear for the first time is take shield, put doom on attack and/or special, and just spam that while blocking dangerous enemies

feel free to switch weapons whenever you need, however personally i think shield is a very helpful weapon in early game

i was loving spear when i first started, then i actually got my first clear with shield. always hated bow until i played it a bit more and got used to it, it's now one of my favourite and spear is probably my least favourite. worth giving them all a chance though

Through a strange twist of fate, I got my first clear with sword, and a whoooole lot of boons and hammer upgrades for the special, and so I just ended up dashing places and spammed the special. Hardly swung the sword at all - just used cast (has a debuff) then special (has debuff for the mirror talent +% damage) to victory. I love this game because I'll use whatever the weapon of the day is, and then each play through would be extremely different, because of the random boons and upgrades that are presented to me

i used to think that the weapons were all super different from eachother and then i realised that the fists are just better sword
they both have meh attacks and specials that just barely make their kits worth it except the fists have actually good synergies and hammers
so i just hate the sword now
and the spear is there i guess
its easily the most consistent weapon in the game but it doesnt really specialize in anything

if you ever need to dip out you can special for some extra damage and zag spear makes it more than fast enough
even on hades spear i like using special as a way to deal extra damage when its too dangerous to move in

I've never seen a new player not do a whole lot better on spear after I tell them to completely ignore the Special and just do Dash-Strikes.

i still use the powerful attack ninety percent of the time but i cant complain about free damage at an even longer range than the attack

and ultimately spear's dash attacks just can't compare to the superior weapons
rail and bow have 1000x more dps at even longer range
