I finally saw the end credits of the game, and I think, by coincidence, ||advanced the Orpheus storyline to the point that the first time I saw the Queen in the Hall of Hades, was also the first time Orpheus sang in the Hall too. It was amazing, really created the feeling that the place had been transformed and the gloominess of before was gone. And good riddance to it :D||

There are a bunch of psychopomps in Greek mythology, including Hermes and Thanatos. Than mostly leaves the violent deaths to his sisters, the Keres, though. However, someone here proposed that Zagreus ends up in the Styx due to ||his own aspect of Blood and how his thematic connection to rebirth might be part of his godly domain, as it was in some Orphic myths.|| I like that.

a lot of the relationships on pages could be done better, either expanded on or cut to the most relevant on some pages. i think aphrodite was left out because ultimately theres no definitive answer on how hades handles her origins or her status in the family beyond her being married (which of course should be hephaestus, but hes only namedropped once in the entire game, post epilogue)
everyone else is really clear, they refer to one another with familial terms, but never for aphrodite

Throughout the whole saga hades cares deeply about zagreus, about his fate in the world and about what happens to him. He has poorly developed skills at expressing that but that does not make a "bad" parent
A bad parent cares not for their child. Hades cares deeply for zagreus' fate and personal development throughout the story
Though its not until Mama comes back home he is able to truly make the change he needs to. Before that he was definitely a proud man stuck trying to shelter his son from the realities of his family situation, which he of course goes about the completely wrong way. It's not until Mama is back in the picture that hades can even contemplate that there might be a better, more harmonious way to be because there simply wasn't one possible before

Maybe itās just me, but, while Hadesās story is quite good, I donāt find it especially remarkable. The narrative cleverly structured around the repetitive nature of the game, but it is not particularly moving or thought-provoking for me.
That may just be because Iām already quite familiar with the Greek mythology and sort of know how the story goes, though, and, as far as reinterpretations of the Rape of Persephone go, this one is less compelling for me personally.
Iām a bit more invested in Orpheus and Eurydiceās subplot since I feel like thereās something in this version of the story being concealed thus far. I also think the twist of Eurydice being a nymph as opposed to a simple human is intriguing, and I hope it was made for good reason.
I will also say that I like the character of Persephone a lot. Sheās far and away my favorite character in the game, and her relationship with Hades in this game is a point of interest to me.

I guess I just donāt see much significant about the story. Like, the Rape of Persephone was significant culturally and scientifically to the Greeks, and modern interpretations of Greek myths usually are changed to reflect the culture theyāre remade in.
And this isnāt a knock on Hades at all. I donāt generally play games for the story, and Hadesās does enough to keep me interested while also making sense with the gameplay, which is all I really ask for. I donāt need an amazing story to enjoy a game, and Hades sort of represents that to me. Its narrative in a lot of ways bends to fit the gameplay and not the other way around, which I think is commendable.
Could just be me getting hung up on what makes a story good, though. Hadesās story is very āfor funā to me, and that, to me, is all a video game needs, so Iād argue itās a good thing.
The characters are definitely superb, though. I like all of them except maybe Tisiphone, whoās really more of a non-character. Charon is more compelling to me as a man of few words.

But, yeah, Zagreus in Hades seems primarily based on the Orphic Dionysus, the primary distinguishing trait being that heās the son of Persephone and Hades togetherāin Greek mythology, various Zagreuses were the offspring of Persephone and Hades, but none of them were the offspring of both. Heās an amalgam of a lot of different myths, basically, and itās sensible because Zagreus is a bit of a mysterious figure to begin with.

Zagreus in Hades is more based on the Sisyphus play being the son of Hades which is good because that's pretty much all we know about him in lore so no son of Zeus stuff (nor him primordial being)
In game Orpheus/Dionysus spoilers: ||Hymn to Zagreus actually follows the Orphic Zagreus story [born of zeus as a serpent], [torn to shreds by the titans] etc and there's some dialogue where Zag tells Orpheus it was all a joke so it looks like Zag told Orpheus the Orphic Dionysus story I guess leading to the followers of Ophism believing that version||
