In short, it makes the game a lot harder at first.

Ahhh, I see. My wife talks about the same thing. It might be that you have motion sickness or something else that hinders your brain when too much is going on. But it's also a matter of getting used to it.
It's definitely a skill most people can work on.

its probably that I have never played League or Overwatch I have 1600 hours on tf2 where they did a ton to better visibility
like they straight up reduced the saturation on everything except players and projectiles so its very easy to know whats going on

The shield in general is also the only weapon that can deny the bloody exploding skulls. Even deflect just repositions them. The shield swallows the damn things into another dimension for no good reason.
