i activated god mode after about 60 unsuccessful attempts and a two month period during which i didn't touch the game at all, and it was the best possible decision. immediately started having more fun again and now after completing the story and the epilogue i still play occasionally because it's just enjoyable

Thanatos' favor is not mentioned, and acts more as a narrative event between Zagreus and Thanatos.
Beating Thanatos after giving him 6 Nectar will randomly prompt a discussion between the two about Zagreus being powerful enough to escape the Underworld without Thanatos' help. Once Zagreus proves his strength to Thanatos, Thanatos can be given Ambrosia the next time he is encountered in the House of Hades.

according to my mathetamathamatics, if i can get about 1.25k darkness on an average run, and it takes about 30 mins rta to complete a run, that means I'm getting about 2.5k darkness an hour, and grinding for 300k darkness would take roughly 120 hours of grinding purely for darkness

Just keep using it, defense with the shield will be your best friend.
Hold left click (bullrush) to block, and release to bullrush. Always block when you can, and always be sure to dash strike as well. Hitting Q or using your right-click is somewhat useful, but it does a lot less damage than your bullrush and dash attack.
