well anyways i've come here to ask: is chaos supposed to comment sometimes on rerolls, even if he's not the one being rerolled, or is that some kind of bug? i'm not sure if i only got it when i was using chaos shield, or when i had his boons, though i know he sometimes talks randomly and comments on things but him saying "Perhaps this?" to something he's not offering just sounds off-plcae

From what I can tell, the rarity and slot type (attack, revenge, cast, etc) is set pretty much beforehand, so you can see that you're gonna get a purple special first boon, then Give Up, hit Play and switch to the keepsake that gives you the special you want for your build, then when you start you will almost always get it again.

it appears to me, from doing runs where I'd go about three rooms deep and then restart, doing that about 8-10 times, that the first room or two or three are usually very similar if not identical, but then it starts diverging. I'd guess that maybe it prefetches maybe pairs of rooms at a time?

Its kinda between my two lines of thinking. So basically, at the start there are two in your pool, then the next two are decided by what you pick up, and it naturally caps there, but by forcing via trinkets, you can add three more.
