not within the same run but across runs
Good boi gets first nectar pick, always
good luck!
exactly
If Hades wins game of the year, will we get a game of the year edition ?
Congratulations for the nomination for GotY20! I've been preaching for months to everybody that Hades should be GotY! At least it is my personal one!
I would be so happy if that happens
goty edition = big dlc????????/
DLC or not the game deserves the GOTY award
it's going to be Hades but everyone is reskinned to be norse mythologic gods
it's going to be Hades but from Cerberus' point of view
screen split threeway 🤔 so local multiplayer?
its going to be hades but now its a shade simulator
to celebrate GOTY they could make a Cerberus plush to be sold in store and do a celebration giveaway for 3 players to get sent one for free
:^) and I will take one as payment for the awesome idea plz k thx
GOTY let's goooo
Does anyone know if there are instrumental versions of the vocal songs in hades? I'm looking for lament of orpheus specifically
Boy was I glad when, with 43 HP and no DDs left, 1 chamber before champions, I ran into Patroclus
Also I just looked and OMG Cerberus plush would be awesome
So I'm wondering what the general consensus is here..
I've completed the games about 6 times now. First time I beat hades was a challenge.
I've done a couple of heat runs and it's a bit harder, but the overall experience feels kinda repetitive.
I get the boons I need, get strong, kill hades.
I'm not sure if I wanna grind out another 50 wins to unlock more story...
In binding of isaac there was new bosses and new items to unlock.
I really enjoy the game, but feel it needs something like an endless mode or dlc..
But then it's just a game right?
Feel like I should work in my hobbies!
have u tried the em pacts?
they rework the bosses to give more of a challenge. not really "new" bosses but the experience can be somewhat different and rewarding for beating em
I've done level 1 I've heard good things about the other levels
So I'll give that a go for sure
Good suggestion
yep elysium is fun and redacted is especially wild
also another suggestion maybe is to try and clear the game with each weapon aspect
I also recommend turning up EM up to three at least and seeing how you like it
You can also try speedrunning to see the fastest clear you can get
i got a chaos gate and a challenge gate in the same room
if i take the chaos will i still get the challenge in this part
my friend turns up the heat way higher than they need when they find the game too easy/repetitive
And that improves the experience for them
I'm garbage at champion fight... from all DDs to dead before I got Theseus to 3/4
If I could just do a practice stage for them I'd probably be able to master them faster
yea practice mode would be nice
Or if I wasn't so slow and could also focus through a run, could get more chances
So I fought Theseus and Asterius for the first time
I got Asterius while still having full health, and then got Theseus down to halfway before getting killed because a pillar got in the way of my dash
All those TGA noms, you love to see it
Also they're hard at first but once you get used to them they're not so bad
i dont rly know how to fight against shields
With Theseus at least after he throws or spins he just turns around and walks slowly
So just dodge and then counterattack
He's also vulnerable when he calls at the beginning of his second phase
oh tru
So if you have some sort of ability that can deal damage over time in an area (like Demeter's Call or Ares cast if you have Hunting Blades), you can fire it on top of him and let it deal damage while you focus on dodging
Did Hades get GOTY already?
It got nominated
Where can I vote
Google The Game Awards. It's like the first thing you see. Website is a bit laggy earlier though.
basedbasedbassed
Maybe too many people are voting. idk.
Not to start an argument or anything, but why is there so much hype for Hades?
Like what makes the game this good
I've played it
why not so much hype
Lul look at that competition
LOL
Hades is going to wipe the floor with those games
Ghost might be kinda scary though
nom is an honor regardless, i think
Can't speak for everyone. But it's a roguelike hack and slash with fluid control.
That's like 70% why I like it.
I've found the combat awkward, but I can understand that it might just be me
SGG is also quite well-known with previous projects.
I've found the combat awkward
Interesting, to each their own, but it's the best combat I've had in years.
Although some default control scheme is questionable
Just like... rebind them? I did.
Hades seems to be soul knight but Amazing voice acting, more boring buffs, and no items? Even enemy spawning and floors work very similar.
i would be happy if last of us 2 or new horizons won but im voting for hades, i think it's the best game i've played ever for me, since i love a good gameplay/story balance
I like hades and all but we animal crossing fans have waited 7 years for the newest one and it was worth it
so i gotta put my vote on that
Hades is just insanely polished.
and this does it rly well
My only big critique is I wish there were more bosses.
new horizons i got burnt out on rly quickly as much as i love the series
as soon as i could edit my island i was done
But other than that the gameplay is good, story is good, gameplay/story synergy is good, voicing is good, music is good, ...
It hits on all cylinders
as contradictory as it sounds i dont rly like having too much choice, especially in animal crossing
No1 is bothered by the sheer amount of meta progression?
People say they want more choice but in practice people like having limited choices.
Otherwise i am going to vote for hades on everything
hmmm
maby i should vote hades best game aof the year though
I approach it as a roguelite. In that aspect, it delivers. For me, it's as replayable as Isaac, minus the item bloats, silly physics, plus the better combat.
I think Animal Crossing for GOTY
I voted Hades for GOTY because 1) to stick it to the AAAs, 2) it is for me among those games
I would say Hades win Indie games
if a small team can make such an amazing game
they deserve the win a bit more than a massive corperation
Vote for the underdog :p
Plus the game is just honestly my GOTY in terms of how much enjoyment I got out of it.
It won't be everyone's but it was mine.
i genuinely just prefer hades to all these games
^
Maybe Best Narrative also due to the unique combinations between roguelite and story telling? But TLOU2 though.
A rougelite is a rougelike but with more meta progression yes?
thanks
Beyond what you learn and getting better
yup
But nothing in the game mechanics themselves
oh no i dont like "best indie game" because idk if i should choose carrion or hades
i havent played the last of us 2 but i've watched some in depth analasyes, i think it could win for best narrative but i think juust for me personally i think i prefer the kind of approach hades takes to narrative storytelling, my one gripe with hades' storytelling is that there isn't enough of it
TBH, even if I did play TLOU2, there's been enough of a firestorm surrounding it that I'd imagine I'd vote for something else anyways just to get away from it
aahahhahh best mobile game
i cant really vote for anything but among us here
I love all of these characters
unless you speak to those purists who believe that a true roguelike has to have tiles and turn based movement and is a dungeon crawler
Except Theseus
I mean if Oscar bait is a thing, TLOU2 is the equivalence of that.
same lol
@tiny grove I mean I would call that like a "true roguelike" or "classic roguelike" so I don't entirely disagree
But something like say FTL
No metaprogression... (some minor unlocks) but it's not a tile based dungeon crawler
How many definitions do we have XD rougelike true rougelike rougelite...
I would still say that's a roguelike loosely
It's a spectrum.
Brogue is a great example of a true true roguelike
Modernized but very much "like Rogue"
There is one true rougelike game: Rogue.
it would be funny if TLOU2 won best game of the year, i think
so many angry people...
If Hades wins this server will get flooded by angry TLOU fans 💩
XD
I would consider FTL a roguelike but
we take them on xD
I've been shouted down before for saying that
Nah we welcome them and help them get into a great game

FTL is a roguelike.
FTL is absolutely a roguelike
Yeah I consider FTL a roguelike
Whereas say Slay the Spire I do not
Though it has many elements
tbf TLOU2 does look good and i want to play it but after speaking to some friends and watching videos about the game i genuinely dont know if i'd like it that much
How about RoR2? I would say it's a Roguelite, even though it has unlockables just like FTL.
the degree of meta progression matters.
FTL unlockables are more alternate modes than changes to the core game though
Like okay you can play as a different species or on a different ship
But there's not like particular in-game items you unlock each run. You just have to learn the events.
And get better at combat.
Meta progression has upgrades while FTL has sidegrades. Some worse, some better.
If you aren't sure on it, I'd say wait a little while for it to go on a big enough discount and pick it up then
The roguelike discussion is at least mostly civil
Now the metroidvania discussion pulls out hair
lmao
Recent metroidvania games: Bloodstained, Axiom Verge, Guacamelee, Ori
Most other games: not metroidvania
Hades is gonna win!!!!
"Dead Cells is a metroidvania" makes me want to pull my own teeth out every time someone trots it out
Like Doom Eternal is most likely gonna get Best Action.
NO IT IS NOT.
a metroidvania is a game with lots of rooms (even if its all looks like one room), and has backtracking. Done.
That's not it, chief.
Honestly though, does it seem like it'd be fair to compare the stuff about TLOU2 to what happened with that one Star Wars movie a few years ago in terms of sheer fire being thrown about?
Don't even get me started on TLOU2
Trying to come up with a set of hard rules (a checklist) isn't going to cut it.
It's worse, isn't it
Metroidvania games have a certain feel to them.
If you've played SM and SotN you'll know them when you play them. There's just a feel.
technically you can come up with rules to contain that feeling it would just be insanely complex
Yeah. Like it's not just ability gating, traversal of an interconnected map, and backtracking
It has to be exploration focused as well
Should ideally have a mysterious vibe
Narrative/lore elements should mostly be passive or in the world itself
Can you give me a game though that has ability gating, traversal of an interconnected map, and backtracking, and is not a metroidvania?
Zelda.
I never played Zelda so...
Or know anything about it
Though it was a main inspiration for Symphony of the Night :p
Zelda is a huge influence on what became metroidvania
Can you, uh, please name a second game? That I hopefully know XD
Well Pokemon Mystery Dungeon is a rougelite, apparently.
guys wouldnt it be funny if during the game awards hades wins every single catagory they are in and we just have the entire show like " the winner of ___ is hades " over and over
It's more of a dungeon crawler descendent which is itself an offshoot of the same family tree
But yeah id call it a roguelite
pmd were the best pokemon games
They were indeed good
I still haven't played them all...
You're just describing Hollow Knight
Surprisingly (or unsurprisingly), my friends who don't play Hades describes it as a Diablo game.
Hollow Knight is absolutely a metroidvania
I love Metroidvanias but they don't love me. It took me 2 days to beat the Radiance
And a very pure one at that
carrion is a metroidvania in my opinion
theres combat, puzzles, backtracking, and secrets
I tried playing hollow knight right after playing Ori but I couldn't bc of the difference in movement and combat. HK was sooo slow XD
It has the vibe down pat
Hades is just league of legends but singleplayer
thats all the things that are in metroidvanias
Few MVs capture the vibe of Super Metroid as well as Hollow Knight
I'm just glad no one compared Hades to Dark Souls
hades is just like dark souls
😦
Hades is a roguelike metroidvania soulsborne rhythm game
yeah exactly
Obviously
hades is darks souls if you max out the contract thingy
I was talking about TLOU with that one but OK
yeah i absolutely get this
i know i accidentally responded to you lol
Hollow Knight really constrains your movement a lot at first
Hades is a terrible dating sim game. Good characters but few options.
But you get a lot more mobility as you go.
1/10
honestly i like hollow knight alot more than ori
i think the main thing i want to get buffed genuinely are the dating dialogue options lol
I love em both but for different reasons
hollow knight has more metroid vibes
Ori is easy as hell even on Hard
and metroid is my favorite series
Also the graphics XD
Like HK does not look bad Ori just looks really good.
like i would just rly like it if there was more romance dialogue but maybe that's just me
Like HK does not look bad Ori just looks really good.
This. There is a category with Hades and Ori on it.
I'm torn.
yeah i get that too, i liked hollow knight a lot but replaying it recently the progression at first is agonisingly slow
Hollow knight has a lovely cute artstyle ok >:I
The Messenger
and it works really well
Though it has metroidvania elements/influence for sure
It's close but not quite
Megaman ZX is in a similar boat
Both good games though
Hades is hard. Megaman Zero series is another level of hard.
I still have the Zero games on GBA
I want the game awards to have hades win in so many categorys that everybody gets sick of the game
But I also bought the collection for Switch
Although it's not a roguelite so you can learn through repetition
agreed lol
Then you have to get the weather right, win with a max rank, etc
genuinely i just love hades so much
Getting EX skills in MMZ is a huge pain in the derrière
So, uh, ik this convo has moved on, but can anybody tell me they see the obvious similarities between Hades and soul knight?
You love Hades? Name every boon.
LOL
You love Hades? Name every House Contractor upgrade.
Id love to listen to the hades soundtrack but since i havent even gotten to the end of the game yet I know i will be spoiled of any amazing music and next i hear it, it wont have the same effect
as if i hear it the first time
@coral prawn the theme for the boss at Extreme Measures 4 is insane
If you can't get that far listen to it anyways
actually i heard that one
You love hades? What’s my favorite color
I cant get far at all
Purple
but i bought it with diamonds ingame
||EM4|| is spoiler here 😄
Wait I can reply to my self??
lul
carry on
Guitarists: "how much shredding do you want?"
Supergiant: all of it
its probably the only type of its genre that I like
oh yeah i was looking for more info on this but
what counts as a spoiler here
like
it's pinned
You can't mention the secret boss fight against the unicorn from the Disney Hercules movie
That's spoilers
so like I usually dont like that kind of music at ALL
but hades/supergiant did it so well for me that It may be one of my favorite songs
the EM 4 boss music
Out of Tartarus is awesome.
omfg
And then once I leave the house I get to hear it again
i cant wait to fight against the boar from the 12 labours of hercules
It's not the boar actually. You fight against the poop filled stable itself
EM 4 boss music just makes me hyped for some reason
Random thought: Icarus shouldn't have had his wings melt and then crashed. He should have frozen into a solid block and then crashed.
btw can someone explain why dusa's name is dusa
i thought the mythilogical snake head lady thing that turns people into stones name was medusa, not dusa,
or is it like how thought the god of wars name was mars but it turns out that was the roman's name and not the greeks
i had to think about that for a second
It's just cause she's cute
It's Maid Dusa.
WAIT
HOLY SH-
HOW DID I NOT GET THAT
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

Just head canon it.
@ supergiant pls confirm
Online SGG employees laughing at us for just figuring this out now
I also think that's the inspiration.
To be clear I don't think there's any reason to believe she is "The" Medusa
But god that pun...
its not 'med-usa' in hades
its 'méd-usa'
But all gorgons are decapitated in this game
it's rude to discuss a gorgon's decapitation guys
lmao
What does the underside of her head (where the neck would be) even look like?

How is it just rounded?
Fridge Horror: Dusa was hired because if anyone breaks a statue she can just make more.
oops tried to copy pic link
I think it's rounded.
looked it up but yeah
the name "dusa" never existed anywhere
so its litterally just a play on the name medusa
Well gamepedia is also fan operated, no?
well
Yeah then its just a silly joke
someone asks that the next time SGG has live QA
if theres no info about any other snake head ladys that turn people to stone with the name "dusa" then its either the info above or a nickname
Anyone know when the switch is getting a new update with balances?
Are there any other notable gorgons besides Medusa?
Per quick google, Echidna and Typhon
like i know the greeks and romans have simillar gods/myths but with different names such as
posidion>neptune
ares>mars
but theres nothing about anyone named "dusa"
quite obscure ngl
Dusas just Dusa
echidna is a gorgon? what how
that
's the name of an animal
were echidnas named after a gorgon?
or is that just a coincidence
echidna in greek means vipers, apparently
while medusa means... guardian???
but Lucifer is technically Light bringer so who am I to judge
also Echidna is the mother of Cerberus
this rabbit hole is getting too deep xD
whasaaaaaaat
also I kinda like how our planets are named after roman/greek gods
Mercury - god of travel (roman)
Venus - god of love (roman)
mars - god of war (roman)
jupiter - "king of the roman gods" (roman)
saturn - god of agriculture (roman)
Uranus - "ancient greek king of gods" (greek)
Neptune - god of the sea (roman)
and if you count pluto, Pluto is the name of the greek god of the underworld
imagine if the game hades was based off of roman gods instead
wow my favorite game is pluto

Uranus - "ancient greek king of gods"
Interesting.
its what it said on google
https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/674303883669012523/778808019714048010/unknown.png
heres the first page on google when specifically looking up uranus
soooo
i got no clue
i heard osmewhere uranus was the god of the sky?
idk tho
Dang, I didn't know Uranus was that impactful.
Ok yeah scrolling down looking at the wiki
uranus is also known as "father sky"
I mean uranus is a bright blue color
looks like the color of the sky
neptune is a deep blue, like water
our planets match their names to an extent
Check with a doctor if that's the case tbh.
ok shut up
lol
i pronounce it "oou-ran-os"
I was joking. You are good 😄
uranus's pronounciation as originally intended was supposted to be like saying "ouranos"
'oo-ra-noss'
but it got.... corrupted... throughout the years through the english language
it is what it is
it ezzz wat it ezz
Hard to beat middle school humor. Sorry that I perpetuated it.
would you rather uranus be named georgium
that was going to be its first name
its nickname could have been george
;_:
i want george the planet
its second name considered i think was of the name of who discovered the planet, herschel.
William herschel
America is "discovered" by Columbus, named after Amerigo Vespucci. ¯_(ツ)_/¯
WE COULD HAVE HAD A PLANET
NAMED
GEORGE
GODDAMNIT
SCREW YOU GREEK MYTHOLOGY
(kidding ofc)
What did greek mythology do .w.
they created uranus
the god of the sky
and we could have had a planet named george
but nooooooo
;(
isnt that zeus tho
No
disregard
opens mouth. closes mouth.
RIP KyD

i never did find out what the link cooldown is to keep the bot from going
at you
yeaaah
Proxy rules with an iron hand.
Yes, Proxy, this comment right here

Ouranos was a primordial god, which came before the Olympians (before the titans? I'm not ultra-familiar with some of the details)
ok im sorry now im doing the 2 grader jokes
When will I be mature enough to read that without giggling
when you learn the original pronounciation
As long as humanity endures.
aka uranus was supposed to be pronounced ouranos in their greek accent aswell (whatever taht accent may sound like)
oo-ra-noss
i guess U sounded more like OO in greek
When are we getting Dolos in game?
whos dolos
who?
I want to ask something about the something in the store, there is one missing music piece that I cannot buy. Anyone know hoe to unlock it?
wh
God of Deception.
It is the one below final expense (payback remix) and up on tje lament of orpheus
Would be cool to have something about invisibility.
oho
You are better off using the contact information in the store I think.
How far have you gotten into the game?
@limber leaf have you fought ||hades|| with the uhh i forgot the contract thingy that gives bosses a little extra to em
if no then maby that??? idk man
p sure they mean the music stand ingame
man, I'm on a roll with stupid questions and replies today huh
epic
jdkfhgdhj oh foxy
if no then maby that??? idk man
@coral prawn hmmm I did clear it with high diff, :/ i will try google first,
Thanks
nono
you uhh
you can lose
like
instantly
just like me
and you still get it
You need to turn on ||EM4||
thats what i mean yeah
And get to the final boss
And then you have to ||survive until his third phase||
yeah
Very spooky
im litterally listening to it rn
cause i bought the soundtrack when i bought the game on steam
Is it any different from the other phases? or is it just a ||darker screen||
after this ima go get som cereal :0
Oh, you'll find out
I have
wats yalls favorite cereallsss
Oh wiki has the information. Thank you
HadeOs
goddamnit
Game of the Year, VOTE.
GotY for me
dunno about other people
It did get nominated tho
for a lot of categories at that
The award is decided 90% by a panel, your votes count for the rest 10%.
But still, vote for fun.
Only TLOU2 was nominated for more categories, I think
If TLOU2 wins, many a angery gamers.
I haven’t played it but I heard the plot’s a little contrived
Like the electoral college all over again.
Reminder to vote hades in every possible category if you agree or not, we want the announcer to say hades so many times that everybody will get overly sick of it
:)
ehhh
Its probably not gonna make much of a difference
THATS THE MINDSET EVERYONE HAS
WHY DO YOU THINK THE POLUTION PROBLEM AINT BEING FIXED
"ohh this single straw wont make much a difference" - 2 billion people
Better way to do this is to kidnap/blackmail the panelists.
true.
pollution problem isnt comparable, and corporations contribute to more of the issue in that even if every individual in the world were more green, it wouldnt really make a dent.
anyway i will be interested in seeing how winners come out
not if you dont get the corporations to change no. its unfortunately naïve thinking
you are fundamentally underestimating the problem and this belongs more in general
Big Corps: releases metric butt tons of pollutants to the environment.
Also Big Corps: ArE YoU cOnseRvIng EnerGY?
its an example of the mindset
anyway moving on
if you think that doing one small thing wont be a difference, theres many many more out there that think the same, and if all those people did the opposite it would all add up
and there WOULD be a difference
can we please drop it
can you please try to understand what im saying before being all pissy about saying yEaH bUt CopErAtiOnS HAhWhwAe
So uh, Zagreus is hot am I right?
they probably catch fire or melt
if they do, do the shoes just burn up
He’s fire resistant, not fire proof
lol
Imagine needing shoes when you can have fire shoes.
tell that to the lego peice the split second you step on it and it doesnt melt fast enough
or tell that to a painful rock
omg I just got Poseidon's +20% fishing hole chance per chamber for the first time. He just... up and gave it to me at the beginning of my run
YES
thats a scripted event
I had the fishing rod for a long time before I got the Poseidon fishing event
He acts like he’s doing you such a huge favor, only for him to give you that
but you can get it as a legendary boon normally if you have his keepsake equipped or have Ocean's Bounty and Sunken Treasure (or maybe having the keepsake still requires Ocean's Bounty, it's ambiguous)
you need either both boons, or one of those boons + the keepsake
the keepsake takes the spot of a boon
I mean idk it seems like a pretty big favor xD Unless you no longer have need for fish
Aah, oki
makes it a little easier to meet the requirements since you only have to equip the conch and track down one boon rather than two
Equipping the conch also makes it easier to track down that boon lol
I'm pretty sure conch works as the ONLY requirement, not simply a replacement for one of the boons?
nope
i asked amir when they changed it
you still need two. either two boons or conch+boon
there was a bit of confusion about it when the update dropped but the conch does not replace the two boons as a requirement, it only takes the place for one
When was this change btw, fairly recent I believe?
Huge Catch got a buff?
So whos your favorite Voice actor? Personally love andrew (Hermes and Sisyphus)
Logan Cunningham as.. the Narrator in Bastion
All of them honestly
waiwaiwait hermes and sisyphus have the same voice actor?
uhh 13 oct
Skelly and Zagreus do as well.
Hmm
thats gotta be a lie
Hi new Im fox
Judging by what you posted
i do not believe you leaf
Yep, tho im biased cause i like his hermes so much :p
I am thinking about buying the game and I wanted to know. Is this game generated randomly?
Like the levels and such
You shouldn't be able to meet the conditions for Huge Catch on your room 1 boon
@outer pecan Yes.
Oh ok
its a roguelike
Have you played any roguelites before?
Not much
like the binding of issac is a popular example
Yeah
its a scripted event that happens once. the game will force you into the boon in the first chamber
I really like rouguelikes
If you play Isaac, it's the same thing. With enough runs you will regcognize chambers.
Makes sense then
And i am new and searching good games to play
There are different minibosses though
Well, you cant return to the same room
Oh nice
And after you beat the bosses of each biome enough times, they get variations
Have you played Bastion also?
yes
not really
in a way
Ok
sorta?
Yes. They are called boons.
idk
Like passive bonuses?
Yeah
they have multiple weapons too
Yeah, like keepsakes
and different variations of said weapons
You will see the same layout as you play over and over again, but the enemies, rewards, and "chests" in random places on that map
Oh ok
You will see the same layout as you play over and over again, but the enemies, rewards, and "chests" in random places on that map
@restive raptor oh ok ty
What happens if you get a pom and you have nothing to upgrade? Apparently that's possible because a pom was offered to me and my only boons are legendary fishing boon and a chaos boon. I went with the other chamber reward though lol
6 weapons, 4 variations.
so 6 times 4 is 24
Then I will buy it now lol
honestly i didnt really like roguelike games then i got hades
yeah i reccomend
not only is the game fun
And seems great
but it has good humor
like regardless of any genre the game is super fun and polished
If on Steam you can refund before the 2 hours mark.
and is funny
plus got nominated for goty
Yeah ok
Not that I condone abusing that.
Lol
But it's something to keep in mind.
Welp
You get money for a Pom with no upgradeable boons
i doubt youd not play more than 10 damn hours in your first time booting up the game
I am buying it then
Its ok
The cheapest it has been is $20 right?
yes
I think
yah
It's a very very good game tbh. I haven't won a run yet but I've gotta say it's easily one of my favorite games ever already, especially with some of the things I've heard but not experienced
I've managed to shill quite a few people into buying the game and every single one loved it.
More plot compared to other roguelites
well, it was cheaper on epic before but on steam the lowest has been 20
waaaaaaaaaaay more plot
Yeah i mean binding of isaac is my favourite game
I mean you are asking in the game discord, so the answers are expected.
Both roguelike veterans and people who are new to the genre
So i am looking similar games
The fact that the protagonist is ||bisexual and open to polyamory|| is already a huge plus to the game tbh
My only other roguelites were FTL and Slay the Spire
Tbh i didnt like rougelikes before hades, but its ao well cratfted i fell in love lol.
Slay the spire has basically nonexistent plot but the synergies are really good
FTL is fun. Didn't beat it once for like 2 years, played intermittently. Then I beat it once and the flood gate was open.
I listened to the ost of this game and i loved it
Yeah, I’ve still never won FTL
OST is probably the only thing that didn't resonate with me.
I probably wouldn't, also. But I had a bet with my friend to see who can beat it first...
hades is kinda like a roguelike for people not super into roguelikes. which i mostly say because hades has such a strong emphasis on story and characters, which is not a thing most games of the genre really focus on, but is something that keeps people engaged with the game even if they were hesitant because of the genre
(I lost xD)
Same, Leaf. I haven't noticed much in the OST that really appeals a lot, though the lyric tracks seem decent
Yeah, I haven’t really done action roguelites before hades
Good Riddance is definitely pretty good
FTL at least lets you pause it for your decisions
But general BGM just didn't feel that memorable to me
How about this, what's the worst thing about Hades?
but that's just my opinion
have you heard ||in the blood|| or ||the unseen ones || yet
Honestly, no clue
To me, that's the boon menu. It's kinda confusing, ngl.
Flame chomper things in Elysium by far.
@manic bobcat the fact that aphrodite doesnt wear clothing
The poison in the last area
the soundtrack is more dynamic to fit in with the action as you progress through your run, which i feel is appropriate. in previous supergiant games, the soundtrack carried a lot of the emotional burden, so they made a bigger impact in general. hades doesnt have to rely as heavily on the soundtrack because its a lot deeper in narrative/characterization
How is that worst?
You lose like so much health trying to get to an antidote fountain
Worst thing about Hades is probably the ||Spear Aspects. ||
I feel like the worst thing to me is the lack of practice mode for the bosses (specifically some of the midbosses, champions, final boss). But most games don't have anything like that so that's not that much a minus lol
That poison too though...
Aphrodite isn’t the goddess of beautiful clothing
I can see the appeal of practice mode but
It kind of defeats the purpose of the game
I feel like the worst thing to me is the lack of practice mode for the bosses
There are work arounds. You can set up save files to practice a particular boss.
But like I said, a work around.
Honestly from my impression of her in this game Aphrodite seems more like the creepy goddess of predatory lust than the goddess of love
She rubs me the wrong way
^
Idk
That's why Artemis best girl.
you should read more into aphrodite's myths lol
Took me about 90 ish escape attempts to even notice she's naked in her portrait
Never paid much attention to her
i feel like people see goddess of love and expect a loving caring persona but aphrodite was. not really that
To be fair did you expect love to be kind? Love is one of the most destructive forces :p
I think she got all angry when she wasn’t called the most beautiful by somebody
You should read aphros codex entry
Yeah, that’s why I always pick Aphrodite in the trials
Those charm arrows stun you for so long and track
I didn’t pick her one time, never again
Sorry Artemis, you’re just easier to dodge
aphrodite areia 🤧
Tbh Artemis arrows that fire when you use an ability are pretty good one of my fav abilities for her
Aphro cant really make fall people in love I dont think
She just kills everyone who rejects love
:)
aphrodite is very petty
i mean most olympians were
but she certainly had a special brand of it
Aphrodite is the biggest shipper
uh huh
Every Olympian who shows up in this game at least is petty af
"you accepted help from someone else? NOW DIE!"
They just get somewhat offended
their mood is fickle
Oh yeah, they’re supposedly here to help you escape from the underworld but turn on you the instant you don’t pick them
Because as Hades says, ||We're gods, boy, killing eachother is what we do||
no no, it's because you accept someone else' help BEFORE theirs.
i do like when arty outright says shes giving you a pity boon though
or something like that
that's the petty part
And this is diffrent when from the myths how lol, if they were any more accurate they would screw you over a lot more.
that would be awkward with how close zag is with achilles lol
I didnt' say it was different from the myths xD
what's the deal with apollo? why do so many people want him?
I can see the lack of Hera, since making boons themed around marriage would be difficult
hes one of the most popular olympians in general
His sister Artemis is in the game already
And lack of Hestia is reasonably justified too, since I don’t think she tended to involve herself in family drama
Tbh a lot of it prob has to do with camphalf blood books as hes a fan favorite thier.
They just put the most recognized gods I think, the ones that make you go, "Oh, thats that one god from greek mythology"
Hestia may not be because shes not one of the 12 Olympians in thier mythos
im sure apollo was someone they considered early on, they had to have.
Or the fact that apollo and hestia may not have good combat possibilities.
was apollo involved in the Theseus myth?
(Or at least not easily translated to combat)
They said the original inspiration was a Theseus game where he tries to escape the labyrinth.
But the game quickly expanded beyond that.
In other news- Man, getting lesser fish like the Hellfish is so much more bearable when you have a >20% chance of getting a fishing spot every chamber
Think I'm still missing some Chaos fish
Apollo is the god of so many things
I lost my first fish in choas, still havent gotten another TT
I'm 322 hours in per Steam. I saw 2 Chaos fishes, caught one, miss the other one as I walked through the door.
Admittedly I didn't go out of my way to look for fishes, still...
hi so like.... nyx wants me to help her fix the sigil thing that allows her to ||reunite with chaos||
i checked the wiki and i have enough darkness for it but dont know where to go from there, the sigil doesnt give me any prompt nor does the contractor have anything new
do another run probably
heck
i dont remember the exact chain of events but sometimes you need to do another run to get certain things to pop up at the house, its not gonna come up immediately
like from the moment you're told i mean
kk
How do you apply Weapon Aspects, btw? Or do you have to do a run after getting all the weapons to
if it doesnt pop up after that ask again and we'll try and figure out what you're missing
I already have three
Click on the weapon you have already selected
I dont remember if you need to defeat the ||final boss|| or not
you don't
think its just getting all weps now isnt it
one of these days i really need to start a new file
yup. did start a new file. can confirm. just need all weapons unlocked + 1 extra run.
Yea according to wiki that plus having at least one ||titans blood|| will unlock them
im not gonna check myself but i feel like that should probably be correct bc i know stuff regarding aspects was being verified as of late
Does anyone have that screenshot of the person who got the highest single hit damage with stacking trap damage keepsakes and using the axe in ||Styx||
Is there any significance to the ||number of darkness required for "eldest sigil restoration" being 3142?|| Or is it generated based on something I've done
Not sure
It seems QUITE the peculiar number
Maybe ask #h1-story-discussion
it used to be 8888
we never figured out any significance to that either, it may just be a random number. if theres anything specific about it i dont think anyone but the devs know
||when i google it, the word "marturion" keeps popping up but I don't really think that has anything to do with it?||
3142 is much less aesthetic than 8888 was 😔
this is true
Onyx
Yeah but it takes like 40 runs to grind out 8k
not really
well, virtually
Do you happen to have a screenshot someone posted here of doing like 100k damage to enemies by stacking trap damage keepsakes
you can grind that out in just a couple runs if you optimize your darkness farming setup
Wait I found it
darkness farming how
Hold on
not literally a couple runs but its very much doable in far less than 40 runs lol
i was hyperbolic in saying 40 but more like 8-15 runs for sure
if you're going for darkness
no way can you grab 8k from less than 8 runs, no way no way no way
chaos boons help a lot for darkness farming
chaos boons, dark thirst, poseidon boons
poseidon boons are good for say 100 a pop, no?
or is it bosted by chaos
dark thirst is presumed yeah
sisyphus about 50 a pop
I recently reached 10k gems with nothing to spend them on
20x 6 if you're rerolling for room rewards
All I need is to grind bounties for blood and ambrosia
can't you turn the gems into titan blood
if you take them all the way
throught the broker
So, i pretty much beat the game and just a quick mini review but my biggest criticism is prob just at a certain point you aren't getting stronger and all you're doing is making the game harder just to progress story, which is pretty boring imo. The game/grind lasted too long, despite it's replayability imo
yeah making the game harder is the point after a while, if you don't like incremental challenge then the ultra late game is probably gonna be boring for you
the gameplay itself is solid enough to where I don't get bored of the higher heat challenges
I think the biggest criticism lies in the enemy variety and boss variety, although the enemies are probably more important since they make up about 95% of the game
Bosses have decent variety
There are a billion ways to customize difficulty, a billion weapons, a billion dialogues, but there are about 5 enemies per zone you have to learn
Only last boss doesn’t really have any variants
doesnt it ||add a final phase?||
yes
at a certain point you aren't getting stronger and all you're doing is making the game harder just to progress story
But the base difficulty doesn't stop the story progression? You can just do 0 heat and almost always win due to how OP the mirror/aspects/keepsakes/companions are?
it's just ||a second phase 2 though, with miniboss spawn||
Damn, 10 keys in one trip!
But only 20 gems...
I wish I'd at least made it through Elysium to get some nectar lol
(fishing boon)
ah keys, how important you once t'were
Sure they are
does anyone else dash into the exchange booth to exchange? lool
its funny to see the exchange person's reaction every time
ofc
You’ll probably run out of uses for keys first, then nectar
Though nectar probably won't be for a while depending on how often you give it out
well it probably goes keys<darkness<nectar<gems<ambrosia<diamond<titan blood
Inversely, you can probably give away any ambrosia you get early on because you probably won't get to the point where you'll be able to start spending it for a while
if you don't count ||themes||
I’m still using darkness to max out both mirror sides
For titan blood
So I don’t have to use a key to reset it every time I want to switch sides
Which sides do you guys like to use for the mirror btw?
I only swap sides for 2 of them
I liked deep pockets at first, but now I like golden touch because I don’t spend a lot of obols in the first two biomes
|| https://i.imgur.com/wBhIhhj.png ||this is what i'm running
My default is all red besides Family Favorite and Favored Persuasion (but tbh I'm ambivalent between that last and Authority. I haven't invested into either yet though)
Also I may put some into Gods' Legacy for at least some of the time a bit later
whats the ideal mirror for eris zeus speedrunning?
I really like getting tons of duos
I like to use
||Shadow Presence. Dark Regen. Death Defiance. Greater Reflex. Abysall Blood. Stygian soul. Golden touch. Thick skin. Family Favorite. Olypian Favor. God's Legacy and fated persuasion||
baker i gotta ask
why do you prefer Cthonic regen over Dark regen
I should probably invest into Legacy soon and try to build to fulfill all the boon prophecies for rewards
I did some math and figured that most of the time, I need reliable regen over situational regen
also
at styx, I get +2 hp every time I go to another room
so i regen a ton
+3, you mean?
I like Dark Regen because it allows shops to have more healing items.
+2
hell mode
Oh
the reason I stick with CV is largely because of styx. And I'm on hell mode so i get +2 yeah
styx you just get mega heals, and I found that I'm typically wanting for heals there
and you never get any darkness there
so i figured it would be better to take CV for the win
I think dark regen is good when you’re farming darkness from bosses
But I like the reliable healing of cthonic vitality more
CV just seems a bit more helpful for my playstyle
Little late to reply but you can dash into the brokers booth? Ive been doing this all wrong the whole time!
starting to think orpheus and eurydice ||singing in the blood in asphodel|| is supposed to kill your speedruns
oh my gosh you totally CAN dash into the broker's stall.
150 hrs reporting in, still finding new stuff
U dash just above him or to the left of him
Or just spam dash til u find location

Hey I noticed that in twitter, people in japan hasn't heard of hades lol
Like one of the artist post a tweets where he legit doesn't know about hades, and only knowing it because of the GOTY nominees
Japan isn't exactly a priority for many devs, hate to say it
highly stratified userbase
iirc
Japanese consumers are notoriously hard to reach for whatever reason
As in some are fans of x game, some of y, and neither are fans of x and y
So I guess they can't played it because of the language too?
so stratified
Oh i see..
and considering much of the world speaks english, and very little speaks japanese, it's even harder to localize to cater to the fraction of a fraction of people
so yeah
the big money is in catering to the china crowd
which genshin did already
Any future plans from sg too localized though?
🙏
already localized all the text for many eastern countries
but the audio might never get done
just too much
localization stalled obra-dinn for over a year, it's absolutely the hardest part of releasing a game
releasing in english is just too solid of a bet right now, eventually chinese will either tie or overtake that bet
Lucas Pope, creator of Return of the Obra Dinn, explains how the localization of the game's logbook put the game in some seriously dangerous waters.

Does aspect of eris work with things like cluster bomb or rocket bomb?
Not sure about that, but I know each form has its own set of daedalus upgrades that work for it
