Another form of progression throughout the game I haven't seen talked about is story progression. This is like one of the few roguelikes with a story interweaved throughout all of it and it is stellar. As you play you unlock more and get more flavour with all the excellent characters

The story entwined with the gameplay is why I enjoyed hades more than other games in the genre. and hades doesn't feel as punishing when you fail (looks at dead cells)

Honestly, I'd say just get it on steam right now and see if you like it. If you don't, you can refund within the first 2 hours, that's enough for like 3 runs. If it doesn't grab you, it won't later on, so you can refund. If it does, you're in for a good time

personally, i started out on keyboard and mouse and then when i switched to controller i was suddenly give or take twice as successful. the only thing i can say for KBM in this game is aiming is a fair bit better on certain things. but the better movement on controller is just so helpful

depends what constitutes "boonless". If you mean never picking up a boon ever, that might be a tall order since some runs force you into boon reward rooms, and you aren't allowed to leave the room without picking up your reward

to me, "boonless" means "never using a single boon", not really "end the run with no boons". Problem with that is luck will almost certainly force you to accept a boon one way or another

So, about to start for the first time and considering Hell Mode. Other than just being harder, is there any reason not to do Hell Mode? Like different story/lore/scenes/100% stuff?

@exotic owl IIRC hell mode has a unique modifier ||no i frames after taking damage|| that makes the game harder but otherwise not aware of any differences
also it forces a few other modifiers but those are not unique to hell mode, just always on
