It's actually pretty good when you have more than one choice because you can reroll the one that's less useful to try to get a reward you want.
And if you don't roll anything you want, you can still take the one you didn't reroll.
If you reroll when there's only one door, and you get a god you don't want, you're stuck with that option now.

@lapis harbor repeating the same heat level gives you a lot of darkness, but also as you improve more, you start being able to take poseidon/chaos boons that give extra darkness and still win
