i did once do a very, very silly build that ran rapid shot (no charge but no powershot) and zeus attack

athena and poseidon have the biggest damage % on their boons, which is more valuable on the bow than, for example, the spear
because you start with a bigger number to begin with
it's why zeus or ares attack is good on spear and rail - they have a lower base damage (unless you go heavy slug on rail) and therefore see less benefit from % boosts vs. the flat number

Doom on spear and rail sadly do not end up being better than on any other weapon.
On another note, the high% boons like Athena and Poseidon can be useful for the spear if you make good use of your charged attack

Maybe just turn off the curse during a boss fight (and 'safe' rooms like pools, shops, sisyphus).. but that might make things too easy.

@normal zephyr Artemis has one crit boon that applies the crit chance to everything, usually 3-5% + however many poms you invest. If you then also get marked on top of that, you will significantly boost your crit chance.
Marked, in turn, can also be strengthened with poms for a higher crit chance.
Combining that with either the sword or the spear which both have ways to increase the likelyhood of crits happening once or twice and you may end up having a good thing going on.

Rail special can hit Theseus when aimed from behind. Shield charge let's you get behind him easily and just dash through him. Sword special is also really easy to hit, it's very strong right now with the instant nova hammer upgrade.
Also, Artemis cast gives dislodge damage that goes through shield. Hunting Blades is pretty OP as well.

Dislodge damage on artemis is a fantastic way to beat theseus, cause even if it hits him and he blocks it from the front the dislodge damage usually deals twice as much as if the cast had hit him, so through attrition you can wear him down

or you can go the long fly,with a lot of death defiance, dyonisus damage reduction, et some dps. Needs some focus, but can work. Ares power up for your cast ( hurdling blade launching ) is a cool way to deal with him too, even more if you have the duo with artemis ( hunting blades as cobalt says )

Hi SuperGiant, here's a way for advancing players to use up excess ambrosia, keys, and heat: If a god offers a set of boons you don't like, Zagreus can offer 1 ambrosia to get another random selection of boons. Each time he does this in game, the number of ambrosia bottles it takes to re-roll the boons increases by one (e.g. the 2nd time Zagreus wants to re-roll a boon selection, he has to sacrifice 2 ambrosias, etc). For rerolling the hammer, Zagreus doesn't offer ambrosia but offers 5 heat + 3 keys for the hammer to 'reforge' the choices offered. Thematically, it would make sense to offer a hammer heat + metal (keys) to 'reforge' the re-rolls, then bribing the hammer with ambrosia. #Keys, #Ambrosia, #bot-commands

Whenever he throws a spear, his AI tends to make him reposition, often away from you, to throw another one. That's usually when I find the best time to unload a bunch of damage into Theseus (I use the rail most, Flurry Fire with Artemis Crits will really help wear him down)
In addition, Zeus lightning strikes seem to hit him regardless of direction. So you could get that on your dash and probably just spam him to death, though it would take considerably longer.

I start with chaos, then ares or Artemis, then spearhead

chaos gate keepsake for the start of the run and hope for 2 gates, swap to Megs keepsake with the damage boost with low health for asphodel then for Elysium swap for the keepsake that boost damage from falling rubble (forgot the name) columns respawn and fully upgraded it deals good damage if you can control the fight
