@dull mesa what makes her strong in my opinion is that with her boons, you can half your incoming damage without sacrificing the core idea of your build.. when you are going zeus for aoe, the chain lightning is already enough damage imho, the dash does not necessarily make you stronger overall

I find myself almost never using Casts

Even with 2 or 3 equipped, I often find the cast time just isn't worth the effort for the damage dealt + the effort of retrieving

some Casts are super powerful, but you need more boons to make them do work

Aphro has an amazing close range cast

Ares can be strong

Artemis is good as raw damage and range

Zeus and Poseidon are good for crowd control

I don't think there is much to these conspiracy stuff guys.. when you are a new player, you will die early on. especially because the brutes are one of the slowest enemies out there and, even when armoured, are one of the easier opponents imho (no offense to you, I got absolutely smacked by them when I started playing)

but hit the main head as many times as you can before it summons more

What I do is use the Snipping Tool (included with Windows), set to a delay in the program, and then switch back to the game and hold the boon display button until it captures. I use window capture for this

I'm sure other people have other methods

You could also bring up the boons and press F10 in game, then close the bug report window and just navigate to the screenshot folder

My only problem with the Hydra fight is the visibility on the little heads' biting attack animations. It can get pretty chaotic with all the heads up and Bloodless possibly spawning on the other side of the room and walking over, so I often miss the very small and quick violet highlight under the heads when they do a quick bite.

gameplay wise it's great. i've sunk hours and hours into beating it. just now beat the game with the sword so i need to do shield next to have done it with every weapon

controls are smooth and intuitive, decisions are clear and understandable, and the voice acting is 💯

It's alright. It's close enough. I swear this game has some kind of desire sensor. I was holding onto an Ambrosia for 11 runs to give to Aphrodite to the get the last keepsake, finally get bored of it, give it to Charon, the next room, I see that Aphrodite symbol on the door. And now I've gone 7 runs, all full clears, without seeing a single Aphrodite boon.

i have a feeling that the game "rotates" the gods - for example, I am always having 1-2 runs with artemis and poseidon being the dominant gods, then another 1-2 with poseidon and aphrodite etc. there is always at least 1 god won't see for at least 5 straight runs

The Hydra fight is freaking heartbreaking. Spent the whole day trying to beat it. And when I finally did I was looking for the next stage so hard. And then I died. Hydra is like the first boss in rogue-likes from which you loot your own death

i think the wall slamming and hitting people with column destruction damage is one of the best aspects of running through the game

but the bosses dont quite allow for that (tho i think meg takes some knockback

Whenever she used her dash attack i'd dash after her and wail on her for 3-4 attacks, but often it would seem like her lifebar wasnt moving at all, even though each attack crit for ~40 damage each

I just did my first clear with shield and honestly can't imagine making sword work against the hydra (at least in the current iteration of the fight with deflecting not being a thing at all)

Bow is probably the easiest clear right now, but all weapons are viable. There are people who have beaten the current content on a fresh save (meaning no mirror upgrades, no keepsakes, and sword only)

Patience and learning enemy patterns will go a long way to helping you win with other weapons

Ive beaten hydra around 10 times, but i havent really progressed in skill against the smaller heads. For me it comes down to attack a little bit and dash away. is there a timing? Am i supose to be reacting to its bites? The smaller hydra heads seem to have very short animation for their attacks.

i can react to the head slame, but the bite they do seem to have little fortelling in the animation

smack and dash is really the only way to deal with them unless you've made it to the hydra with enormous amounts of damage

the bites look like they deal their damage at the beginning of the animation instead of the end

Hello. I've not got the game, mainly for a few reasons, but figure it looks fun. Been watching some youtube videos on it. I was wondering on a topic. when it comes to roguelike/roguelites, people tend to be split on whether or not to have permanent upgrades or not and if so how they should work. (I'm in the permanent camp.) I was thinking, would it be possible to find a way to cater to both sides of the argument in the game? For example, on the perm upgrade side you can add a way to perm upgrade health or resistances, but on the pure roguelike side you can choose to turn off things like the mirror altogether or get a random weapon rather then pick

I like pernament upgrades in here because I don't think they're that strong I guess?
you actually do have to get better at the game to beat it, upgrades help but they don't make it too easy

in general, I like them too, I just want them to be balanced because otherwise the game can be just unplayble without certain upgrades and it feels like a chore to get it
and I think I'd get bored of the game more quickly if I didn't see any kind of pernament progress, I dunno

I am here 3 hours late for the perm upgrade discussion

I think the game strikes a good balance with the upgrades/amount of upgrades.

I am gonna compare it to something like The Binding of Isaac (since it is/was one of the biggest roguelikes) where you have your characters, and as you progress with them you can also unlock some other benefits for them to start with (similar to the mirror) while still having the randomness of each run

My only issue is that the dash upgrade breaks the balance between attacks and specials on some weapons

The only way I would use it is indeed if I had only one dash, and I would need to just dash in and try to hit someone with like 150 dmg

in what scenario is poseidon your go to god of choice? I've beaten it with all the weapons (and with dash only damage), but I'm starting to think that the weapons don't matter as much as the boons, and some of them just outclass others. Poseidon is one that strikes me as kind of meh.

the increased rewards boon is strong on any run, and will be even more so when the game is longer. Otherwise he is a bit weaker

Having a source of knockback can be nice for tough situations, but building around him specifically won't do you much good on the 2nd boss
