Meg is interesting, she is almost a pure counter to aggressive playstyles. If you wait and bait her into corners, deal with adds as needed, and just dash in > backstab > dash out. She becomes much more manageable.
There is no clock or reason to play fast especially quickly so feel free to just wait until she dashes into a poor position and punish. At half health when she runs to the center and summons a legion of adds, you can just wait her out and she will run back to you so you don't have to aggro all her new spawns.
Punish dashes, avoid whip, and the further away you get from projectile spam the easier it is to sidestep.
I really like Megs design, she knocks you around for going all in, but with patience and skillful play she almost has no ability to hurt you and teaches you safer habits going forward.

Hades is also more of a jerk in the game than he was in the myths so I think there's some wiggle room. I'm not saying Sis wasn't a bad guy, but I want to see what the in game explanation is first
TBH the fact that Hades is something of an antagonist is a good storytelling decision for more than the obvious reason (family conflict with Zag). It gives the writers more leeway so we don't have to assume that ppl in Tartarus are unforgivably bad people (like we would if Hades were a just ruler)

Well my tactic is to use the basic attack on the sword and just slash at it. Use the dash as much as possible. Only use the special if I have the right boons and maybe doubled the size of the effect. Sadly never use the cast..

Having more items that are finite would be nice. Paying Darkness for something like a "Dark Bomb" Something like how Isaac's bombs are powerful but finite. Or how he can use pills or cards once. I know I bring good buddy Isaac in here a lot. But meh I don't have experience playing much more in this genre.

@woven fulcrum Honestly, all the dash attacks make the game pretty trivial. I don't think in the times I've beaten Hydra (5 or 6) Have been as a result of getting one of the more choice dash attacks (Zeus, Athena, Aphro).
I generally don't have to attack if that's the case.
I've beaten the game with the sword, and have stopped swinging probably somewhere around Meg. The sword feels weak, but I don't think that matters when all the dash base power levels are so strong.

Athena's is the best, followed by Aphro, followed by Zeus.
The rest are all perfectly useable now they aren't surges.
But knockback is just strictly worse than reflect.

You can clear Asphodel with Athena's dash pretty easily.
It's been about 5 days since I played. Zeus ups your clear time, and if you double up on Zeus you can get the "retaliatory lightning bolt" which is super powerful
Athena makes bad players good.

And it hoses witches in Asphodel, which I think is actually the difference between beating the game and losing the game. Controling how much damage you take from the Witches.
Honestly I think all dash damage should be lowered because like I said, as long as you're good about spacing and not getting caught out, the game feels trivial with a legendary dash.

I find the the spear requires much tighter play but the reward with the back-stab is higher with the mirror perk outclasses the shield.
Unfortunately, Asphodel and Shield collision is pretty bad, so I hardly ever base a shield build around it's special anymore. Sure, it's cheese, but attack builds are faster on asphodel.

So I don't think passive dodging should be an "extremely" effective way of just beating the game.

Well yeah. The more accuracy, timing and aim, something requires, the more damage it should do.
Dash upgrades feel like "I'm getting paid to not die," and it feels like the first thing I'm looking for in runs. Feels counterproductive to asking more out of the player.
Because honestly reducing incoming damage, a retaliate, and a good dash and you're pretty deec regardless of the weapon.
