Yes, that’s the genre of the game. You have meta rewards that you obtain throughout runs and they’ll help you get upgrades so you can consistently get further on your runs.
And gold laurel rewards, aka boons, hammers, hearts, gold etc will be gone once you die and you’ll just have to pick them up the next run

You’re also just progressing at your own pace. Not sure how many attempts you have atm, most people get their first win around 40-50 on average, you’ll obviously always outliers. There’s also godmode if you feel like you’re struggling too much but you can probably wait a bit on that, it’s just damage reduction tho.

It's not so simple because it's +10% per available slot for which duos/legendaries are still in the pool. The +10% is more effective when there are no t2 status curses in the pool and/or your priority slots are filled and no exchanges are possible. It's less effective the more duo/legendary chance you already have.

There's some tech in that if you press and hold down Attack during reload, your Empowered Shot will come out immediately after the reload. And if you hold it for a little bit longer, you'll get a second normal shot right after that. Which could potentially be some bonus DPS very very situationally with Spread Fire from point-blank.

all of the weapons are pretty well balanced, it just depends on your playstyle( I'm partial to the spear or shield) and each run's randomization. The bone hydra is a very fun battle once you get to know the rhythm of the fight. Congrats on making it that far!

i find myself sometimes just jumping in and taking damage if i don’t use the bow after the meg fight

yeah that makes sense! Once some of the more permanent upgrades ramp up, other weapons become easier/safer to use and can become a different kind of fun because of their speed.(at least for me)

Tonight with one of my first strat game
if you want to optimize for speed, there's a few things you can do
take extreme measures 2 and forced overtime 2 (or 1 if you aren't used to it yet and work your way up). the lernie fight with em2 is faster because the heads are grouped up a lot more, and fo2 makes enemies spawn faster, which can be a significant time save
using meg's companion battie is very helpful due to how fast it deals damage. it covers a good area and hits it all for 2500, so it's very consistent to hit
always taking the free room, such as midshops, chaos, and story rooms. i dont think there's any situations you would consider taking a combat room over a free room. if there are, it wouldn't be that many
pausing between decisions if you aren't already would cut down a lot of time as well

Why’s Charon so difficult

With Charon just dash into him when he floats toward you and then repeat until he stops swinging, usually he just does it twice. Then he goes and sits still and you can wail on him. If you dash through him you don't need to rely on iframes to dodge, if you dash away or to the side you'll get hit if you mess up because his swing is large and wide.

I'm a first time player about 70 runs into the game on hell mode. I've fought Charon once in Tartarus and another time in Asphodel and he absolutely demolished me in like 2-3 hits both times. I watched a video to learn his attack patterns but I still managed to get clipped by them. I've seen a few more bags up for grabs since then and chose to ignore them since I was having good RNG on those runs and didn't want to throw it away.

It makes a world of difference, also yarns, refreshing nectar, having their keepsake equipped, and Chaos' favor boon. The keepsake bit still works after you've used that one charge to force them to show up.

well, just died with fists. I had aphrodite damage bonus at like 125%, but that was my only attack damage bonus I could find. I had a few dash strike bonuses from chaos and Artemis. I also had the Artemis cast, which actually ended up doing most of my damage in the last fight since it mostly ended up being kiting. I also had a poseidon bonus to the special, but nothing else that synergized with it so it seemed kinda useless. The rest was just little bits of utility like move speed and health pickup bonuses. Basically nothing synergized across the board. No single attack or skill had more than 1 or 2 bonuses to it.

Dealing damage and receiving damage, like alma said. Doing 100 damage in 10 hits will generate more god gauge than dealing 100 damage in one hit.
Which is why fast-hitting weapon aspects build god gauge faster than slow heavy hitters.

Well, builds that want to use Call a lot usually start with Lady Aphrodite or Lord Zeus and aim for Smoldering Air asap.

Which builds a lesser Call automatically in 5 seconds. Shortened by the god gauge you build by dealing or taking damage, but the difference becomes much less pronounced.
And the slower-hitting aspects tend to go for Smoldering Air more because they benefit more from it, relatively speaking.
Rather than focusing a build on god gauge because the aspect hits fast, you'd usually just make adding any decent Call more of a priority on those fast-hitting aspects. Whereas on slower ones you'd be more inclined to ignore Call unless you're going for Smoldering Air.
