well he's not exactly a fully-fledged mature god, he leans more towards a juvenile one that doesn't even know what his godly powers are, not to mention what "god of" he is

He also grew up in a very unhealthy environment.
His dad constantly scolds and shuns him, he gets assigned to do a job that he's very much not suited to and gets fired, he had a very rough and bumpy romantic relationship with meg, etc.
