You're free to hold that opinion and I'm going to continue to disagree with it. Firstly it's not child abuse. Child abuse is what is says, abuse of a child. Zagreus is not a child, and insisting he is is pretty silly when the userbase as a whole understands he is adult enough to hold relationships (with implied content in the game itself). So insisting it's child abuse while carrying on relationships is pretty sus in itself. Secondly what Hades does is emotional abuse. It's not good, it's terrible on every level but it's not directly evil. The things Hades says, the way he treats Zag, it's familiar to me in some respects, because I've gotten similar treatment from my parents in my life. The constant belittlement, the disappointment, the angry, frustrated assertions that you could be doing more, you should be doing more, why aren't you doing as I ask? I've gone through that. I've gone through that for years, and it's incredibly damaging, for sure. But it's not an inherently evil act and can still come from a place of love, and not malice. But the important thing is recognizing that "they want the best for me" and "they're abusive" are things that can coexist.
I can see why you would see his actions as evil, but at the same time from my perspective this can still be an instance of 'this doesn't come from a place of deliberate malice but is still abusive'

In its essence, D&D (and many other tabletop RPGs) are about comparison of dice throws against difficulties. The first thing to learn is when to throw which dice, and what to compare results against.
It's rather simple with D&D because for most checks, a d20 is rolled and a bunch of modifiers are added.

If the amount of rules is something holding you back, I would also recommend systems that aren't D&D. I've played a handful of Powered by the Apocalypse games (PBtA), and those are great. Dungeon World is the D&D-esque PBtA game. I've also heard good things about Quest, which is a deliberatively rules-minimalist game.

The only controller I own that actually works got its joysticks screwed up because my dog tugged the cable and slammed it into the concrete floor in my bedroom. Well, the game is pretty much the furthest you can get from a team-based shooter.
It's a fighting game that's played pretty much like BlazBlue but you can combo more easily and you can input in all directions for most characters with the normals.
There's 15 characters so far, but the plan is to update it and add more and more as well as more chapters to the story.
One of the mechanics is that you can build up this special meter on the side that makes you stronger and heals you for playing to the beat of the music. So striking, blocking, dashing, or pretty much anything apart from basic mobility right on the beat will reward you.
But landing things between beats or inactivity for a certain period of time will cause that meter to start depleting.
There also aren't normal rounds. Instead, the players have a minimum of two health bars. This count can be raised up to eleven. The first to have each one depleted loses. Depleting one fully shatters it, and you can't get it back even if you have a healing ability.

But the last one is special. When a player is on their last health bar, they enter 'Limit Break'. Limit Break is essentially an extra Overdrive which serves as their last chance. While in Limit Break, players are capable of using what's called an Aural Drive. This is a one-shot drive that will automatically shatter two health bars off your opponent, but it's expensive and leaves you vulnerable if it whiffs.
But if both players are in Limit Break, they instead have a Fatal Drive. This is an instant-kill super that's unblockable but with shorter range. It has the same cost and leaves the player vulnerable, but not nearly as much as a whiffed Aural Drive.

@north hamlet Also, the attacks are planned with that in mind. You can land it on beats which boost you, or half-beats which don't boost but also don't allow you to lose Beat Advantage. The mechanic basically means you can't spam things.

But, while the game has a mobility style like BlazBlue, what with airdashing and high levels of combo capability, the overall feel is much more comparable to something like Under Night in terms of combo timing.
The main characters are Ryland and Gabriel. They're in-game avatars of my little cousins. I'm making the game for them because they both have cystic fibrosis, so I wanted to give them an adventure just for them that they could go on whenever they want, fighting bad guys and savin' the world. I'm also using the money from it to save up for lung transplants for them later down the line.

The other characters are Kiera Miamoto, Psyon Dexteris, Schatten Sickleheart (Adrien Kol Christian), Shizuma (Deus Terumi, he just hates his first name because it's corny and uses Shizuma instead), Ninigi (Ninigi Mikoto), Alin (Autonomic God), Watatsumi (Ryujin-no-jo'o-Watatsumi), Shugo-no-Koken (Mugen Kishi), the Kaminanayo: Kojiki, Leonidas (Avatar-Type Designation 1017), Veles (Veles Ryoto), and Needa Tred (Ethan Vasilas)
The reason for the numerous Japanese names is that this takes place in Japan and the story is based partially off of Japanese mythology. Most of the story and worldbuilding is all me though.

Kiera is an incredibly physically adept fighter who wields an interdimensional Golem named Jerico which she can summon the limbs of (Kinda like a Bayonetta smash attack) to strike alongside her. It also allows her to generate floating hands made of the same material Jerico is. Jerico himself is also massive, with his head alone being about 1.5x the size of Kiera's entire body. Her power allows her to divert the flow of gravity along her body, giving her strikes incredibly amount of force and impact. She's a half-Indian-half-Chinese girl who has her Japanese step-mother's last name.
She's also very well-fit because we need more strong girls in gaming.
She's essentially Psyon's government-assigned bodyguard and also his absolute bestie. She's got a rivalry/mutual-pining situation goin' on with Schatten, and her and Shizuma are pretty much just bros throughout the entire series.
Her overall personality is kinda like that of Justice from Helltaker, but she can and will get serious when the situation calls for it.
Oh yeah. She can also disrupt the flow of gravity, allowing her to deliver strikes that form what can be only described as a gravitational sonic boom.

Well, it's not really like that. It's more of an outward disrupting wave like an actual sonic boom in real life.
Just the impact of a large well-pool of gravity causing a major wind disruption rather than something breaking the sound barrier.
Then there's Psyon.
He's an Egyptian-Norwegian trans boy who's the demigod son of Saga, though he doesn't know that. His power makes him completely immune to pain, fatigue, or strain, though he's not invulnerable. However, he's also taken Valkyria training, so he's more than capable of holding his own in combat (Also, Valkyries don't have to be women in this world- they just have to be female, mainly due to some of the training only being capable of being done by females. There are a few exceptions, of course. Valkyria is the title for boys while Valkyrie is the title for girls, those titles being assigned by identity). He wields a Golem named Geronimo like Kiera does, though he doesn't summon his. Instead, he uses its power to summon numerous blades he can control telekinetically. Along with his wrist-mounted string-daggers, he's incredibly capable at both close and long range. Combine that with his high levels of energy, agility, and flexibility, and you've got yourself a little coot boi who can beat anyone six ways to Sunday.

Next up is Shizuma. He's a Living Regalia. Regalia in this world are things that are capable of channeling the power of and summoning deities. His applies to every deity, minus the summoning. However, he's limited. As such, he's fully aware he's in a video game. Along with that, he's able to predict every future outcome, but he can only see so many as he's got the same limits a normal human brain does.
