well you see we are level 1, this is like session three and we’re fighting these bandits
our party has four people, a rouge tabaxi, human bard, spores druid tiefling (me!) and a leonin warlock who is literally 14 years old
anyway we’re having the time of the life fighting these bandits, i roll a nat one and accidentally almost poison myself (i don’t get hurt but it was very funny)
So potato (the kid), decides to go up and hug one of the bandits. He enjoys hugging things, and squeaky toys. And the bandits are like “tf??” and obviously attack him. they roll like stupid high and he goes unconscious, so we’re panicking trying to kill these guys and also save him.
So i use my action to cast resistance to help with the death saving throw and she gets stabbed with 7 damage (had 6 left at this point)
i succeeded one throw, failed the next one and then combat was over but that was SCARY
(Potato was also fine)

So, my party had just settled down to start the first session of the campain and i'm playing a sorcerer so have like 7 hp. anyway, we're going into our first fight against a small group of goblins and we've been preparing to fight them and making our strategy. I then roll first in initiative which was not at all what we were hoping for, and run straight into the middle of the group. not smart i know but that's what I did. so anyway , first goblin is next in initiative, runs up to me and hits me. he rolls a critical hit. i take 20 damage. this is enough damage to be classed as massive damag, and technically should have instantly killed me. everyone spent the next 5 minutes laughing when our DM pointed this out and after all that he says "ok, fine. you're just unconcions. Maybe don't do that again?" our party proceeds to revive me and I obliterate the goblins with burning hands
Honestly the image of this actually happening it this best. runs into the middle of the group, gets knocked out by a single hit, gets revived, immediately kills 3 goblins
oh, literally the next encounter i did the same thing, run into the middle of the group, and suffer absolutely no consequences 🙂

well the original post was about my character almost dying so start there
so, we were doing a one-shot, and rolled stats. I always like to have one very low, one low, two mid, one good, and one very good, and this spread gave me a 4. So after a bit of thinking, I naturally put it in CON.
That's a -3 to CON.
As a level 10 Cleric, she had 23 HP.
This was in a wholly homebrew world (like, predated 5e and was ported into it homebrew), including a completely different set of races. Also included were some new backgrounds, one of which was "you died and got brought back". This was relevant because being resurrected in the world was seriously taboo, and would result in a death curse. I chat with the DM, roll my d100s, and I get the Death Curse of the Forgotten. Which means that no one can recall any details about her, other than basic stuff like "do I like you?" or "do you owe me money?" No one can remember her story though, at all.
Which is extra painful, because her race have these intricate tattoos that influence their connection to magic and tell their personal story.
I work with the DM, and we create a custom third subrace, for someone who is too young to have attuned to one of the other connections (Arcane or Demonic). So, she's unattuned, has some neat stuff from that. She also worships the god of Beginnings and Endings, because it fit incredibly well for her story.

Enter the one-shot. I'm not going to summarize the entire thing, but we're exploring some ancient, ancient ruins, and come across this altar. A ghost(ish) tells us either we need to sacrifice one life, or each person needs to sacrifice one thing that was given to them. After probably an hour OOC, and a few small offering attempts, my character decides to walk over, set her stuff down, and lay on the altar.
She dies. Painfully. Death Ward doesn't save you when you (tw painful death) || get stabbed through the heart by a massive spear ||.
Well, the door to the next area opens, and out she walks, revived by her god. And with a new Death Curse, that of Incineration. Her clothes are already nearly burned off (fortunately, she had magic armor underneath so remained decent), and one of the NPCs conjured some lightly magical robes for her to wear.
And, because of her first curse, no one knows what happened to her.

Bonus from the end of that one-shot: We were in a massive fight at the end, including a story beat for someone else's character. Well, that character gets hit a bit too hard, and dies instantly. I'm halfway across the map, but not having any of that. I roll Divine Intervention at level 10. And get it. They get resurrected, one of my proudest D&D moments to date.
Later on, new one-shot. We're in a time loop, then stuck in fake paradises. She was first in the paradise, and broke out because people remembered her. It was sad. Well, we finally make it to the last person's paradise, and we're fighting against that player and a literal demon lord they summoned. Oh, and we're in the middle of a lava lake at the top of a volcano.
I manage to get really lucky on an athletics check, and jump across onto the island in the middle of the lake. Now for a bit of extra context: Her race has a special Runic Resistance. The first time they'd take damage per Long Rest, instead they don't take damage, and nearby creatures make a save against a knockback and minor damage effect.
Guess how I found out that one of my party members was also this race, despite seeming more like a shapeshifter? Well, we got hit by fire, and their Runic Resistance activated, (tw painful death) || sending my character plunging into the lava and dying. ||
Luckily, this was still in a dream sequence, so she turned out fine, and no new Death Curse. But still...
