That's more of a personal preference thing. I prefer playing games on PC, since I can get higher resolution and better performance, though it's not quite as mobile

For one thing, if you have the pro controller for the switch you can connect it to your PC. Beyond that, controls don't matter too much, and I will always lean towards better graphics and audio for myself

honestly depends on where you prefer to play, transistor is not a graphically intense game as it was released in 2014, so whatever you prefer. Sounds like PC would be the way to go for you though

Mostly, I recommend release order. But to some people, I fear that "almost same gameplay, but not quite" may end up making Hades fans enjoy Bastion less instead of more if they play Bastion right after Hades

They do! But Hades' is more difficult to listen while working, with all their tone gradients. But that's a consequence of needing different intensities for the same song.
Whereas the entire Bastion's or Pyre's can be listened from beginning to end in one go, without many shifts. And I suppose Transistor's too but I haven't gotten to it yet failbag

On Steam, is someone able to play the "Hades Original Soundtrack" or "Songs of Supergiant Games" using the Steam Media Player?

If I click on "Play Album" of either of it, it opens the Steam Media Player, but it refuses to play the tracks, remaining permanently "paused" no matter what. Other soundtracks by Supergiant Games like "Transistor Sountrack" work fine, as well as soundtracks from other games.

Thank you for digging that up, unfortunately, it does not work for me, neither for the "Hades Original Soundtrack" nor "Songs of Supergiant Games". The latter one already follows the described structure, having the songs directly in the folder that is opened when clicking "Browse Local Files".

I also found other soundtracks that follow the same file structure as the "Hades Original Soundtrack", having the songs in a sub folder and they still play properly.

Bastion! I always recommend release order after playing Hades. It worked well for me, especially because Bastion has the most similar gameplay to Hades

hmm it depends, when i tried revisiting bastion after 300+ hours of hades it was not as enjoyable to me as when i originally played the game when it released, because i was so used to the faster combat in hades. so your mileage may vary

Th combat system in Transistor and Hades share many similarities, basically in Transistor it is more or less turn-based, but dependent on one's point of view it works almost the same as in Hades with a slower combat pace.

Seeing as Hades combat system evolved from Transistor, most likely, I am curious what SGG will do in future games, whether they will continue to develop it or bring something new and unseen to the table.

allo ❤️ i'm, uhh, rivermund, and since i can't be sure how active i'll be here i'll just introduce myself in relation to the games. i believe i got transistor and bastion shortly before pyre came out, then about a year into pyre's release i finally got the dosh to purchase it, and only a day or two when it got out of beta did i purchase hades! every single purchase i've sorta maximized what i could afford to get, inasmuch as i buy them instantly with the soundtracks, and when i finally got to purchase the orchestral album on steam (after listening to the album to, er, Elysium on spotify) a few days ago i figured to join the server. that about covers the time i've been in love with the games, the gameplay, the art, the music, everything really ❤️

I purchased both and the 19 poster is large but the paper is naturally lighter weight (thinner) — think concert posters back when we all went to concerts or promotional movie posters. I am having mine put on foam board and framed. The giclee paper is much thicker (cotton blend) and is very well suited for framing. I can’t post pics here but they look amazing.

I'm framing both of them. The 19 dollar version will fit an 18x24 frame without an internal mat; if you invest in museum glass and don't put the image in direct sunlight it should stay vibrant for many years, the paper is really thin -- like thicker than a glossy magazine page. If you choose the 74 dollar version is thicker paper (MUCH thicker/ watercolor paper with higher quality ink -- that's what the extra 50. is for) -- and it is a collector's/limited run piece. I'm a super dork so I chose the 124 dollar option because I LOVE the art and having something signed by JenZee makes me giddy. I purchased the 19 dollar Hades Poster and the 124 Cthnonic Gods.

mechanicaly Transistor is much more streamlined, I played them out of release order and itwas pretty plain to see what elements from Bastion evolved into which parts of Transistor. However, some people prefer the combat from Bastion bc they dislike the Turn system in Transistor. Plus the split of style/genre

Bastion has fabulous atmosphere and the gameplay is similar to Hades but allows for traditional progress with saves, instead of the roguelike model. It's a small indie, too, so you can zip through it without a huge time commitment.

Transistor has extremely beautiful 1920s-30s-influenced art and a retro noir cyberpunk theme that a lot of people really gravitate to, and is centered on a very sweet/sad love story. Its gameplay is an unusual action/turnbased hybrid that I personally enjoyed a lot.

And Pyre has hands-down the deepest and most original world-building in any SGG game to date, and a super eclectic and fun soundtrack. The gameplay is part visual novel, part Oregon Trail exploration, and part sports minigame, which is polarizing for some, but you won't know if you like it until you try it.

I'll be completely honest, I've bounced off every previous SuperGiant game despite owning all of them. I recognized the quality of the craftmanship involved yet they just didn't grab and hold me for the length of the games. Even Hades, when it was finally released on Steam, I bought and then refunded because I was unsure if I would end up enjoying the game before the refund window had closed. Thanks to Game Pass, I was able to demo Hades for much longer and ultimately became as infatuated with it as everyone else had. I then bought it even though I have a current GP sub just because and also to complete my SuperGiant collection of games.

Hades is definitely worth a try, as it has unique approach to roguelites - you still progress with the story even when you die. And story is one of the main aspects of the game (one of the strongest, too). And there's a God Mode setting which you can toggle at any time and makes you more resistant to damage right away and even more resistant with each death, which is a great option if you're struggling with difficulty. I haven't played the souls games, but from what I've seen, I'd say the Hades is easier, as you don't have to be that precise with dashing or movements. You still need to learn enemies' attack patterns and prepare accordingly, which gives you a great amount of satisfaction when you do. Since you have experience mainly in 3D games it might take some time to get used to isometric view, but that's a matter of 1-2 hours tops I'd say, however, this is highly subjective (you may not like it all once you try it). As to the matter of if you'd like it, you need to try and see - if you buy it on Steam there's a 2 hour refund Window for games, so you can just do that if you don't like it.

Can i ask again an update for a total play time in-game please :/? i would like to change my Switch to Switch OLED, but if i do that the internal playtime on Switch will be "freeze", so all my marked-hours will be disappear, and a playtime counter in-game could be a perfect solution (on the save slot there is space).

i read around all the internet (and people that changed from Switch to Switch Lite can confirm) that the playtime freeze if you change the console, and if, for example, you did 100 hours into the game, you have to do another 101 hours to see 101 hours did on the system, so 100 hours deleted, you know what i mean? that's the problem, with a retroactive total playtime into the game, all problems will disappear

I just finished my first successful fight against Hades. I’ve played games in this style before and they’re usually fun, but this…this is the Sistine Chapel of hack and slash dungeon crawl games. Specifically most games that I’ve played like this put me in a situation where I get only my best toys too close to the end of the game and I don’t really get to play with them but the way that new abilities and nuance to the game is unlocked and accessed through repeated runs of the game culminating in finally beating the final boss gives me a lot more of a satisfying continual interaction with the game that I just have never gotten in any other game with the types of features like this. Everybody really nailed it and I just wanted to come on here and say it somewhere so that maybe the devs would see it and just know you have a really thankful player out there who appreciates what you put into this experience.

i play on gamepad - is there is a way to make the cursor snap to UI elements instead of aiming it like a mouse, or is that the only way it controls? not a huge deal either way but snap navigation is easier for me

It's one of the things I'd wish they'd fix. IIRC Bastion let you select tonics with the keyboard, so it's odd that Pyre doesn't have this :|

Welp, as of last night, I have now beaten every Supergiant game. Very excited for whatever their next project is, and I hope they're making the most of whatever short break they take post-Hades. It definitely deserved game of the year. Though Transistor is easily my favorite of their games, I feel like I'd probably appreciate Pyre a lot more if I owned a steam copy and played it with the rite club that pops in here every now and then.

My partner composes music digitally and he’s constantly pointing out overlapping libraries in media. (There are a surprisingly small number of high quality sample libraries.) I’ve picked up the habit from him.

Listen for a little after a minute in on “Stained Glass” from the Transistor soundtrack, then put on “Last Words” from the Hades soundtrack. Same bells.

There a lots of others I’m sure. Music stuff is expensive!

Mostly the usage of parallel structure - two storylines or locations or times are alternately shown, and the visuals and texts are similar in their structure. There‘s a super cool example in Shutter where you see the backstory of three different characters, each taking up a third of the page and all the visuals and texts match, and it goes on for an entire chapter. The same comic also has a lot of style changes, like switching between styles of popular newspaper comics mid-narrative

Also, Watchmen with its Tales of the Black Freighter comes to mind. The latter is a comic inside a comic, being a parallel to one of Watchmen‘s characters. Though that book in general has so many nice visual ideas as well

I'd say Hades is the hardest, with its Heat achievements. Pyre has no achievement that's actually hard, so that'd be the easiest. Bastion and Transistor are roughly the same. Potentially hard, but given that there's no randomness to them, you can simply make cheesy builds for the hard achievements.
