After asking I realized I can already toss my hat in this ring. I teach 7th/8th grade English in a pretty low-income area and so I'm always looking for ways to engage the kids without watering down content. I've used Transistor a few times in class when I'm teaching plot structure, to show them how a good exposition will introduce all these elements to a story that establish the world but also get you asking questions. They all really love it
I'll just load the game on a laptop, throw it on the projector, and play through the opening few minutes with the kids taking notes and writing down questions. I've done the exact same thing with the opening of Bioshock and Hyper Light Drifter, all phenomenal openings.

Oh, yeah. For sure. They write their own origin myths. I also had the best mythology teacher in college who used Halo as a teaching tool. He'd have kids play the game for the entire hour lecture and just be going on and on about the allusions to different mythologies

TE, I do a lot of work with teens at summer camps, my church, other schools, etc. and whenever I mention I'm an English teacher and get groans I go, "Well, you wouldn't hate your English class if you had me!" ...which might be true, but even with all that interactive stuff, education system is super rough right now. My 7th graders read, on average, at a 4th grade level.

@amber panther , Yeah, unfortunate concession I've had to make in my career, while I spend the vast majority of my efforts on helping my kids read, understand, and appreciate literature and all the comes with it, I've had to accept that they are going to read almost not at all once they leave my room. So I spend a lot of time using other media, movies, tv shows, video games, and then making them have the same conversations they're having with literature because they WILL keep viewing all those things and if I can get them thinking critically about them then I'll have succeeded in some way
And, the reason I play the first minutes of Transistor in class is because they skip every dialogue box in everything

Oh, it's brilliant. It FORCES you to experiment with functions if you want the lore. And that means you're not just playing the game itself, because now every new encounter is one you're facing with not the optimal mechanical options, but the optimal narrative options. It's really neat

Part of the reason I love transistor so much is that Supergiant knew what made their gameplay good, and what gameplay style (mixing up loadouts constantly to experiment with new combos) was the most fun

If I had to pick a game to write a thesis on it'd definitely be Transistor. I just love how the game has different "layers" for different kind of expectations, if you just want to rush the game then the Transistor provides all the narration you need without interfering with the actual gameplay, and you just pick up whatever function you feel comfortable with. But if you want to go deeper you have the terminals, you can go deeper with your loadout too, and it rewards you with even deeper lore... It's just beautiful

i think hades' particular strength is in giving you information through emotions- you can really understand and feel whats wrong in the house of hades just by trying to get in tune with zag, meg, hypnos, than, etc etc, and what they carry into their daily lives, better than any one impact scene can

So there aren’t any specifics, but the pipeline is to essentially render each animation with an orthographic camera view, export as a series of frame animations, and add those to the game
So for example if a walk cycle takes 8 frames to complete, that would end up being 64 frames, as they need to record from the eight possible directions that the isometric game character may be moving in (up, down, left, right, diagonals)

I think the only time I was ever able to notice it was moving while doing the flourish in Transistor, but I don’t think the intention is for the player to do that anyway haha

hmmm with the bow I was able to realize that when you're holding down the attack button, there is a rotation lock
but its way beyond 8 directions
but the movement itself is too smooth to be direction locked, and to be this smooth with so many animations, it would require an absurd amount of sprites
but I'm only checking out Hades, can't say for transistor
now that I opened the video, I feel like I'm going to be shocked
in the video, Camilo says the animations are recorded in 16 to 64 camera angles, so it's up to 64 directions. Holy cow. Average of 2500 pngs per animation 😮

So now that Hades finally has a Steam page with an Early Access release date of Dec. 10 2019, the forums are being flooded with anti-Epic troll posts. Even though Supergiant Games is a small studio that likely needed the money Epic was offering them, even though they were the first one to accept the offer, before any of the controversy surrounding the store that would later unfold, and even though they didn't pull the game from Steam (like some other devs), but promised to offer it on other platforms after one year. They did nothing wrong, and yet people are threatening to boycott them forever. I would hate to see one of my favourite game devs go bankrupt over a bit of drama, so how can they mitigate a PR disaster?

Thanks, that's what I thought. Personally, I've been pretty divided on EGS since it launched. I understand why a lot of people don't like it, and while I don't approve of exclusives, I completely sympathize with indie developers who take the offer. People who bash the small players really should be directing their rage at Epic themselves, and AAA developers who could easily afford to put their game on Steam. I've heard a lot of bad things about the store, but I've since learned that most of those things are completely false, or otherwise unproven (ie the claim that it's Chinese spyware). Not only that, but they've completely blown the whole thing out of proportion, comparing it to console wars, which is BS considering that A: None of the exclusives are permanent (with the possible exception of Free to Play games like Dauntless or The Cycle), and B: You don't have to buy any additional hardware. It's literally just another launcher, but fans have become vicious over it. And Youtubers that feed on the drama aren't helping at all.

I just downloaded the launcher so I could try hades and I have to say it's not as good as steam, but yeah i completely agree, it has been blown out of proportions. It's not the greatest launcher, and having multiple launchers for multiple games is not ideal, but it really isn't that bad

Hey, I have a problem with all supergiant games on my new PC - steam overlay says I have 30FPS, but it feels like 2FPS. It's so bad, I can barely choose anything in the menu. It's just the super giant games, not windows, not anything else. I have a i5 9600k, 16GB DDR4 RAM and a RTX2070.
I didn't have this problem on my old PC..
does anyone know where that comes from?
If I press down/or up in the main menu, it takes roughly 3 seconds to go to the next menu option. All the animations are that slow as well, roughly 2-3 seconds till the next frame. Sound is normal.
Alright, I found a fix. If I deactivate fullscreen, it runs smoothly. Not sure why.
Maybe it doesn't like my G-Sync monitor?

try verifying your game files through the Steam interface, then maybe toggle V-sync on/off (depending on where it was to start)?
the game also has a few internal options for resolution, maybe it's trying to run at the wrong resolution and struggling? (Disclaimer: I am super not an expert, I just fiddle with settings until things work)

Yeah, already verified - they're ok. V-Sync can't be toggled in Transistor, sadly. Doesn't do anything for me in Bastion, though (I shouldn't have to turn it on either because of my G-Sync monitor, but just in case - it doesn't fix it)

If I set Bastion to non-fullscreen, it's still fullscreen but runs smooth
If I set Transistor to non-fullscreen, it's actually windowed but runs smooth
if fullscreen is on, it barely registers anything
I can barely actually see anything happening, it's so slow.
I guess there may be something interfering with the game, because my PC should be able to run this game 10 times simultaneously
I mean, I don't have an old rig, my stuff is brand new and the games aren't too demanding

We expect to bring Hades to a variety of other platforms once Early Access is complete. We haven't decided on all the platforms yet.```EA is set to end in the second half of 2020 per the most recent announcement. A Switch release, if there was going to be one, would likely be a while after that. Nothing's been announced yet though - gotta finish the game first!
