I have a question about current early access scope (which is already huge, obviously). I would appreciate if someone could give me a non-spoilery answer.

Is there any game / story progression (in the current early access) locked beyond ||Power to Pause and Reflect||, or is it a minor QOL thing for the specific fight? @sturdy anvil #h2-feedback message you can’t water the pool with dash and sprint because each god only carries one or the other

#

And Apollo and sprints are both great

#

Heph can be too when pommed, Zeus is generally just bad cause Poseidon is way more cost effective

#

Demeter sprint slows projectiles really well so it’s great vs ||eris||

#

Sprinting itself helps vs ||scylla||, vs ||chronos||, vs ||cerberus||, vs ||eris||…

# elder bough <@291315191080026112> https://discord.com/channels/456889434672201729/1233146390...

It's interesting that the each god offers one or the other, I supposed you can still get a dash boon, and a sprint boon? If not than it wouldn't water it down, if yes than it's still two separate boons for mobility powers. I've had some success with sprint boons. Sprinting isn't bad in theory. I'm giving my feedback that it feels bad to me as a returning player and it feels like a lot of scenarios weren't specifically designed with the sprint in mind. I don't think they should necessarily throw out the sprint entirely in favor of multiple dashes, just what my feel is a someone coming to the game from the original, which I'm assuming most people will be.

elder bough
#

It still doesn’t water anything down you aren’t being offered more boons than before for that main slot. Also the dash boons are usually pretty bad compared to sprint boons

#

Poseidon sprint literally got me mostly through ||chronos|| completely by itself

gloomy ocean
#

I haven’t beat chronos yet, but I did get to him on my first run where I met the second boss

#

Which is still wild to me that I made it all the way through the 3rd and 4th area’s on my first try

solar drum
#

Yeah that’s a great effort. Chronos isn’t too bad once you’ve got some practice and a decent build. Or you can just focus on Zeus + Apollo cast upgrades and he’s free as all heck

gloomy ocean
#

Is zeus actually good? I feel like his new effect is kind of bad

#

Or Is it like a hades 1 Persephone where the effect is weak but his damage is high?

solar drum
#

If you stack cast upgrades you get Apollo cast that does damage very quickly after your cast expires. Zeus can also drop lightning bolts during that cast and once you have both you can get the duo boon that lets you drop more mana into an omega cast and just activate the orbital space laser

gloomy ocean
#

I see

If Demeter has taught me anything duo boons involving lasers are strong

#

the first movie isnt anything like the book but its a fun time

golden fjord
#

First movie is 'good' (it holds its own and was produced well) if you haven't read the books. Second movie is just sorta... mid? The acting is a little ick imo, but if you have no stake in the franchise then it's bearable.

Show is almost one-to-one with the books, but the show is taking different paths to reach the same goal and I personally enjoy the changes they're doing.

Def suggest reading the series. It's a lower reading level, very easy to follow, and it still holds up for me as I'm doing a second readthrough! (Last I read it was back in the early 2010s)

#

(Lower reading level as in... like, it hasn't got flowery speech or anything. It's written from the perspective of an... 11 year old? 13? very young kid, and it reads like it's a very young kid)

sterile condor
#

i read it recently and i still enjoy it. its an easy read but fun

gloomy ocean

golden fjord
#

I 'hate' the movies from a book fan perspective, but I can appreciate that (at least movie one) is well done from a cinematographic point of view.

gloomy ocean
#

Anyway to get this back on subject

#

If you could change blitz to another effect what would you have Zeus do?

tribal scaffold
#

I would've gone with Chain Lightning, like the first game, but the fact that there's other Boons from him that essentially turn Blitz into Doom from Ares, it's not too bad.

#

Now, if it stacked like some of Ares Boons like Dire Misfortune, then I think it would be awesome.

worldly pulsar
#

Its even slower than impending doom with toasting fork i think

gloomy ocean
#

I think one idea i like would be to rip off ares other ability, basically attack or special sends with it a lightning cloud that strikes below it and functions similarly to a blade rift cast

tribal scaffold
#

Ooh, that sound cool. And like, 15 damage per bolt that strikes an enemy or something?

solar drum
gloomy ocean
tribal scaffold
#

What if they foregone the Vengeance idea from other Gods, and made it exclusively a Zeus thing? Enemies hit you, and you deal damage back to them, but it's only for the enemy that you most recently hit with your Attack or something?

solar drum
#

Nah can’t take vengeance off ||Hera|| at the minimum. ||Being spiteful is classically her thing||

gloomy ocean
#

Ehhhh, personally I don’t use vengeance much so that would just make Zeus even worse to me

tribal scaffold
#

Right

gloomy ocean
solar drum
#

Also vengeance always seemed so weird to me as a mechanic - in a game with such limited healing it feels very weird to opt into taking damage

gloomy ocean
#

No problem, I don’t think anyone in this conversation didn’t know already, plus I’m not a mod

tribal scaffold
#

I think the point would be to make a niche build from healing effects like Descura's Omega Attack killing an enemy healing 2 health to you?

solar drum
#

Dedicating a chunk of abilities to a small niche is always gonna feel bad if they show up when you ain’t kitted out for that niche though

tribal scaffold
#

The issue is that Vengeance deals so little damage, and it requires you to take a hit.

#

That's also true, but if you get that niche, it's not too bad... unless you're in a boss, and there's no enemies to kill to heal yourself

gloomy ocean
#

Vengeance could probably do with a buff

solar drum
#

The one saving grace for vengeance is getting Healthy Rebound on Aphrodite. If you get that at high rarity and levels you can push it down to something ludicrous like 35% hp activation

tribal scaffold
#

Can Vengeance deal Critical damage?

solar drum
#

I got that on a run and it was the freest thing ever, I got up to like 300 hp and no matter how iffy I played I could just heal for like 180+ hp after a room

if you are a spam clicker and try to dodge out of attack chains you are likely performing an attack dash (dashing mid attack animation. different than dash strike) not sure if there are i frames when you do that.

aight - here's what helped me beating him the first time:
||1 - scythe attacks - he can either do a semi-circle attack, a straight dash or throw that spinny golden bayblade of bullcrap - which is the most deadly||
||those attacks have slightly different tells, but screw it - treat them all like he's gearing up to throw that bayblade - just keep your distance just to be safe||
||which leads to number 2 - he's quite slow, so ranged attacks and omega casts should help you a lot||
||3 - start with extras just to clear out the arena||
||4 - the succ attack is a great opportunity to get in some free damage - just get behind him and whack him with all you've got||
||5 - at 50% health he starts doing combos - he can chain up to three scythe attacks in a row - keep that in mind||
||6 - try to not freak out during stage 2 - most of that fight is about avoiding arena hazards||
||7 - skills that slow down time (like channeling or the slo-mo hex) do not affect him||
||8 - do NOT get caught in the time bubble - there's always a gold ring on the ground that shows where it's gonna pop up||

Okay so for context, I have barely played Hades 2. I played it for 50 minutes on release day and I died to the area's first boss. I barely know anything about this game but I had a crazy dream about it so I'm pasting this message from my friend group's Discord server XD

I just had the craziest dream

So I've been playing Paper Mario the past 2 days.
So obviously I had a dream about playing Hades 2, the game I've only played for 50 minutes because I wanted to go back and 100% the first one.

Did you know that in Hades 2, apparently if you make it through your first run you unlock 2 player mode? Zagreus is just there now and he plays exactly like he did in the first game and all his weapons and boons from the first game are back.
So obviously Noah started playing 2 player mode with me.

And did you know that Hermes is a mini-boss in the first area for some reason? I have zero clue why he fights you, maybe he's testing you? But he sure is annoying to fight. He just constantly ran away and taunted us while me and Noah were yelling at him to come back so we could get a hit on him 🤣

Also did you know that Hermes has a boon in this game that lets you order a pizza? If you order a pizza and successfully make it to the end of the run, you can give the pizza to Chronos and skip the boss fight!

Also did you know that the second area is apparently a beautiful bright green woodland area with purple poisonous swamp tiles? Honestly props to my brain for keeping the randomly generated rooms coming, my conscious brain would've given up.

The way 2 player mode works is pretty cool too, to make up for having more firepower there's double the enemies in each room and double the health for each boss. Also each player gets their own list of boons to choose from from each God. The game is split-screen locally and each player has their own screen if you're playing online

I remember near the end of the dream I got a cool duo boon from Ares and Poseidon that let the attack from my witch's staff slowly spread out into a very large circle that continuously inflicted doom and pushed foes away. It was really cool and spamming it was the thing I missed most when I woke up.

Apparently the final boss of the second area is a tournament that gives you a selection of 3 random tough monsters to fight in a row. Each with their own gimmicks and silly characterization. We never got that far though, I just knew about it in the back of my mind from when I'd allegedly beat the game before.

The last thing I remember before waking up is finding a boon from a stone themed god I'd never seen before, and I was going to get a boon that gave me a lot of rare rocks I could use for witch crafting stuff when Noah stopped me and told me that I should actually grab the rare stinky cheese boon from the God because it's really broken because, and then I woke up before I could find out why the cheese is so good

So that's the gameplay of Hades 2 apparently from someone who has not played it

There was also some really cute back and forth between Zagreus and Melinoe

Like there were times after we got a boon where Zagreus would be like "you know, I've actually met Poseidon," and then they'd talk about it

Also there were times when after getting a boon I'd be like, "Man, I want another boon, I feel like I could've gotten a better boon than that." And then my dream would take pity on me and Aphrodite's orb thing would come back and Noah and I could just keep asking for another boon, it was silly 😆

I have a friend that is wondering if he should buy and play the first hades before going to the second one. I have no idear because i am still doing stuff on the first game. What are your opinions on this?

shadow lichen
#

There are definitely story references to the first game that are fun to see if you have played it, but I don't think it assumes you've played the first one by any means

#

gameplaywise it introduces everything from the ground up, and the story is also pretty self-contained. The references back to the first one are more on a level of... well not "easter eggs" quite, but certainly not integral

valid path
lofty lily
#

I feel that while you can certainly play it without playing the first one, I kinda wonder if people who haven't will be as invested in Mel's task as those that have.

shadow lichen
#

fair point, playing the first game does create a sense that you want to rescue these people, though Mel herself arguably doesn't have that

#

except in a fairly abstract sense that they're her family

edgy flower
#

i agree. also the first game was a little more straightforward (fewer items to grind for) and i feel like if i had played the second one first, i might have gotten overwhelmed by the collectibles. also, this is underrated, but the first one is done, and if you played the first one now you'd be ready for II by the time it comes out, or is at least a couple patches ahead

shadow lichen
#

also a good point!

#

multiple good points, actually

sleek forge
#

I'd also like to state the obvious that the first game is complete and the second is still being developed
It's a lot of content and very fun, but that should still be taken into consideration

lapis blade
#

I'd say to buy the first one and play it since the gameplay is pretty solidly overlapping, and it's a complete game right now.

shadow lichen
#

yeah, there's absolutely a lot of skill transfer between them

lapis blade
#

Also Hades 1 is $5 cheaper on US Steam, so I'd rather pay less for a complete game now if I were a new player

shadow lichen
#

though I do think that Hades being complete vs Hades II being still in development is a little bit misleading, as I think the amount of stuff you can do in Hades II now is indeed comparable to what you can do in the full game of Hades. The devs have said that and I think it's accurate. Though narratively of course there's less satisfying resolution available in 2 right now

#

plus I think there are some habits I had in Hades I that I had to unlearn for this one (mostly having to do with combat playstyle)

lapis blade
#

Maybe, but the end game content is definitely there for H1 atm. H2 is still definitely unfinished in that regard. I do still enjoy taking on the final boss but the story elements run out a lot sooner right now (which is obviously fine, I knew it was EA when I bought it). If they like the idea of playing a game under development, then H2 may be for them. i personally enjoy H2 for that reason.

#

I do agree, they definitely play different, specifically movement and crowd control imo. I actually went back to H1 and feel a lot more restrained as a player (in a good way) especially wrt the double dash and movement in general. Feels like I got better at H1 by playing H2.

shadow lichen
#

yep, 2 has comparable amount or more content from a gameplay perspective, but from a narrative one it's definitely going to feel unfinished

shadow lichen
#

but you're probably right that if I went back to the first one having gotten used to this one, a lot of the more deliberative technique would actually help there too

lapis blade
#

I had a really bad habit of mashing the dash button in the first game that I found really hard to break. I definitely miss the indication that the dash is ready to fire again in H1, but I picked up on the timing eventually.

You make a good point about people enjoying the play style of H2 more, I can see that.

||it took me a long time to beat Cerberus. I mostly use the axe, and with that, I focus on the special and cast. Use attacks on him sparsely.

For the special, I find Hephaestus' boon to be quite helpful, the one which deals 400 damage occasionally. Couple that with a boon that makes you channel Omega attacks faster, and something that makes the hex recharge faster, and you can use the Omega special frequently.

Find some boons which makes the casts deal more damage and use them wisely, and you should be good.||

Should I buy this or wait until it's out of early access?

glass sage
# daring steeple Should I buy this or wait until it's out of early access?

depends. it's a very good game right now, if you'd be playing it mostly for combat it's a safe bet (though balancing changes/extra features/mechanics will still be added later), but if you're in it more for story you might want to wait until full release as the story isn't complete yet. did you play hades 1?

daring steeple
glass sage
# daring steeple Yes I played Hades 1 fully along with the epilogue

great! hades 2 in it's current build is bigger in gameplay content than hades 1 i believe, so if you want to get back to fighting thigns with new weapons and boons, it's totally worth picking up now. you might hit a wall as the hades 1 late game grinding stuff isn't quite present yet, but there is ||an equivalent to the heat/pacts of punishment system,|| and tons of builds being workshopped by the community, so you'll have plenty of room for experimentation. if combat is your focus, i think it's a good purchase as it is. can also give your opinions in the feedback channel to help shape the game!

but again, if you were mostly in it for the story or greatly valued the story, you might want to wait. there IS a lot of story, it's just not finished, so it depends on your priorities.

daring steeple
deep lance
#

The half-way house would be to do roughly what I'm doing: I played enough to be able to give useful feedback, but now I'm holding back and playing other things whilst I wait for new patches (and then I give it an hour or two to see what the new patch has done). At my skill level, I'm in no danger of "revealing all the plot" or "getting a full clear" before the full game releases 😄

How do you guys makes your builds? The boons given are so different from the ones we could see in the first games.

Some things still look really obvious compared to other ||Héphaïstos explosion effect really seems to be good as a supportive tool, less as a primary source of damage for example||.

There is also the ||infusion of elements|| that I didn't need to take into account in the previous game. That and ||mana management, it kind of sounds easy at first sight, if you lack mana, build more mana stuff, but then you have dilemna like some boons sacrifice max mana to give resistance, or just taking a boon resistance even if it i less effective||.

#

I don't want to go in advanced build yet, but I still think I could use some help figuring how I should make my builds.

pastel glen

I don't, I get guided by the RNG go where gods want me to go

brittle nymph
#

i basically do my builds around my mana regeneration and daedulus hammers

#

based on how much of that i can get and what my weapon actually does influences which boons i take from each god

naive stump
#

Meanwhile a higher dmg/slower prefers something like aphro/apollo for the high % boost (or added AoE)

#

Cast builds are easoer to figure as they are pretty much, take cast > get duo that buffs it if possible > take any cast/omega dmg you can find

sly pumice
#

Make sure that every good you're introducing does something to your build. The god pool is || 3 instead of 4 || so that matters too

#

Whether that's your main damage or support. If you literally could use 1-2 boons from a god and they're not game changers, skip them

sharp saddle
naive stump
#

Ah
Mana is dependent on what your build is, some just don't care about more mana (some really care about the mp regen boon you have too for example, mainly torches)
Infusion most of them can be just a bonus you get, some can be built around (coarse grit/air quality)
Hexes are uh bouldy

#

Most useful is usually moon water (hp) as the dmg ones are frankly underwhelming so they really get used for "while hex isn't ready, gain x% buff" stuff

They can do some work if you focus on path of stars but that usually means passing on other, more generally better upgrades (boon from a god you want/poms you get it)
