It seemed like a fairly organic progression to me, I didn't have to force anything or look for some hidden task to check off. I just kept talking to Dora at every opportunity and doing surface runs. Eventually Mel started asking Promo about Dora and that was that

Do you have rivals activated or no? That might impact the specific dialogue you see with Promo and may not be possible to get the Dora stuff with it on

What I've generally found in this game (and in H1) is that to progress the meta storylines, you basically want to always have plenty of all the gifts on hand, give the gifts whenever possible, talk whenever possible, and otherwise just keep playing the game. It's a bit annoying that the rivals stuff can potentially mess with those story unlocks (I'm not sure if that's 100% confirmed but kinda makes sense)

My current favorite way to play is the random chaos trials.

If there were more customization features I'd use them. Just a couple of ideas:

• play random at any heat
• limited blacklist for trinkets/penalties (e.g. if you want a random feel but can't handle scars 3)
• mix and match biomes (maybe too crazy to balance)

The way arcana loadouts are currently randomized makes it impossible afaik

i assume that theoretically if the random Fear caused you to get the vow that reduces how much of your Arcana you get access to, it may cause you to have few enough Arcanas that Judgement would activate

but, if possible, that would certainly be rather rare

But come to think of it, since your arcana is randomized there's no real reason it shouldn't. You can already lowroll and get neither Death nor Strength for your run lol

the game has something called "reward bag". it's a system they made to ensure you get a balanced amount of major finds such as hearts, flasks, boons, poms and etc. it has a ton of rules that are a little complicated

hippo has written a small essay about it in the speedcord

the tldr is that the more time you spend not seeing a boon, the higher the chance of seeing a boon as your next reward. artificer speeds up that process even further
