#Filling Codex as a Summoner

Hey everyone, we've got a Codex heavy event this month, and Summoners get to learn that their summons don't count for the Codex.

The last time this event came around there were some comments/complaints about completing the event in parties, as each individual party member will need to cause each status effect.

How are the Summoners doing on getting their codex filled out?

Last time this event came around, the 2 week version or so iirc, I ended up having to switch class. My biggest issue is that I had no way to really stop my summons from killing things for me to codex, and the fact that my summons didn't count for any of my efforts made it a chore. I'm completely disinterested in codexing otherwise, so I don't really have a deeper argument than that.

New summoners have been expressing confusion over their summons not triggering codex.

The advice given boils down to changing to a different class.

Or use cockatrice breath.

Still not really sure why we can't codex off of party members/summons. We're clearly witnessing the events. If it has to be on own efforts then technically followers shouldn't be granting codex either.

I made a suggestion on it last year lol.

Ye I remember, it died screaming iirc lol

#

Either way I'll be happy once I codex the new dragon to finish up the new quests

Well there is a way to codex as summoner but it includes GSHydrus, assassins spec, nag belts, gorgons head and a full set of nocturna gear.

Absolutely

Heh, I bet that almost every summoner related QoL suggestion will be shot down if got posted in suggestion channel

#

But yeah, it's kinda pain to codex the event dragons

What is the link hiding from us?

#

Should we nekro that Summoner feedback post, or keep going with the specific topic in here?

Yep, that one is accessible

#

It's the one that mentioning 'summons codexing', the channel linked to it that I can't access it

All of that can't access it

I also believe summons should be able to codex. There is a main story quest to codex "the enlightened" at t7 (or 8?) and i regularly see summoners stuck on that quest

I don't know what that means!

That we may go on to talk about how to codex as summoner. Suggestions so far are

  • change class
  • build a bunch of event gear

Kind the same for gilga Players to get the petrification, better to change class or you are going to have a loooooooooooong timing trying to get that.

Get them some pet booster adornments.

Freyja charms work just fine too

Browsing the reddit, I'm loving all the codex guides/help.

Step 1, don't be a Summoner, summons don't codex.

peak hamlet

Yeah, it's particularly annoying but unfortunately that's pretty much it aside from trying to codex off of 3% procs like Cockatrice breath for the petrify

Reviving this one too.

Since the last message prior to this one, summons remain incapable of codexing themselves so it naturally falls upon the summoner themselves to codex so that the summons can read that and work off of it with smart AI.

It'd be natural to expect them to read the codex properly with regards to sigils and weaknesses when working with smart AI, however, the summons would still use moves that are completely off the mark (one such case being a Hydra against Oceanus, despite him being weak to Earth skills, Hydras would still use cuts and normal attacks with lesser efficiency).

#

Even with the codex filled and smart AI on your summons, it doesn't guarantee them hitting the weakness, and ALL of this, without giving any form of agency for the summoner to command the summons.

#

To add salt on the wound:

We still don't have a UI in the game where we can see what our summons can do unlike pet classes.

Such a basic feature that should've been expected, but we've had this kind of screen since Summoner's release and a year + 5/6 months later and it's still like this

rocky matrix
#

So if we're going towards summons targeting weaknesses wouldn't that be more like a smart AI topic than a codex topic?

As for summons codexing i'm afraid that it will stay necessary for the player to codex by himself.

We're able to distinguish between summons and actual party members, as shown in this months event quest.

Why can't the codex do the same?

#

Especially relevant to revive this question, with next month's event quest requiring us to fill codex for 3 new baddies.

Does telling a Summoner to change class if they'd like to codex match with the "Play your way" spirit?

#

the main issue of summons codexing sucking imho is that they both don't get what they do find out combined with them just killing the target

#

at least against raids, that last point isn't a thing

#

so we can just do our own thing

Yes, changing class is better, but doing it on summoner isn't impossible (lyon's mark aside)

#

And so long as it's possible but less efficient I don't really see a problem with it. Odie knows about it and says he'd rather people switch class
