Any ghost can do this. Yureis close a door and it is accompanied by sanity loss (many also report that they can only fully close or fully shut, but not a partial). Yurei is the only ghost that can fully shut the exit door with a hunt of event. Unless it’s a mimic being a yurei. Then they can, too.

1. Stay crouched to break LoS, so ghost doesn't speed up too much
2. Use Sprint only a little bit at a time so you don't run out,
3. Keep your eyes on the ghost in case it doubles back.
4. Be aware of the trashcan/fan so you don't get caught up on it.

I would recommend you just to smudge the ghost, this helps when you have sanity, useless at 0 sanity, or wish for activity
Also increasing activity depends on ghost type, few ghost types have features with activity increasing/decreasing

If you're trying to get it to attack from talking it doesn't work that way you can't say a ghost name and enrage it.
That mechanic is for activity unless yokai and it raises the threshold for hunt

The ghost will start having the chance to hunt once you hit it sanity threshold
Or use a cursed item that allows for a hunt

As stone explained, ghosts can hunt once their threshold is met. Some ghosts have features that make them able to hunt earlier. For instance a Yokai if someone is talking near them. For Obambo, it switches between passive and angry states every few minutes. In angry state, its threshold is higher than when it's in passive mode and thus it can hunt while your sanity is higher than when it's in passive mode

Focus on learning the game. The more you know the smoother levels will be. Play the hardest difficulty you can do reliably. Avoid dying above all else. Once you hit lvl 50 Custom unlocks and you've got tons of options for grinding XP.

Does the outside light have to be ON on Edgefield to prevent sanity loss in the entrance hallway? I know there's two switches (one to the left of the door, and the other in the back entrance hallway section).

I am talking about the switch that is to the right (AKA behind) the entrance door. Some people claim this light has to be ON to prevent sanity drain in the hallway, yet whenever the ghost events in the hallway, the exterior light is never switched off, as opposed to the other two.

So which one is it? Yes, it has to be on or No, it doesn't.

Oh. Well, in that case you're good. The ghost can't even hunt you for the first five minutes. You're likely gonna get all evidence and be out of the house by then XD

1: Tells you its not a Wraith (Wraiths cannot step in salt)
2: Forces UV evidence if the ghost has it. (Shine your UV on the footsteps.) However! You HAVE to HEAR the footsteps, otherwise the ghost stepped in the salt and then didn't move further (no UV footies then)

And if any ghost steps in salt twice (with some time inbetween, like 2-5 seconds) without hunting inbetween, it's not a Gallu.

Yes. But the UV footprint thing only lasts 10 seconds, so if the ghost ENDS a roam in the salt (AKA steps in the salt but then doesn't move further), you're very likely to not see UV footies, since the ghost will probably stand still until the UV thing runs out.

No, it's kinda coded in a way where the ghost will only leave UV footprints AFTER it has stepped off the salt. So any subsequent steps after disturbing the salt.

No, it works like this:

If a Gallu steps in salt, it gets to its enraged state within about 2-5 seconds.
In the enraged state, crucifixes and smudges are less effective and ghost ignores all salt.
If the Gallu, in an enraged state, hunts it'll be faster and when the hunt is over, it becomes exhausted and can step in salt again

So if a ghost steps in salt once and then never again until AFTER a hunt, it's a Gallu

This isn't ironclad. If Gallu is in its Weakened state, it can step in salt separately twice before it's Enraged again and will skip over it

overall don't sweat it for now. You sound like you're doing fine so far. Just keep at it. Your XP per game will double at level 10 when you go to Intermediate

But if you're doing Amateur, you have 3 evidence, so you don't have to memorize this stuff 😄
