Nothing wrong with either approach. I usually bring in a smudge and a parabolic to get the general direction and see if i can ID it based on walking speed to start

go to a spot thats relatively safe and near the entrance. do you hear the ghost durinmg the hunt? if yes, probably in one of the courtyard halls or downstairs. No? Likely at the end of a ward somewhere. bring the shit you need for objectives there as well as photo cam. Suffer, probably lose because its apoc 3. Try again until you win

I got the photo but I forgot to grab a second smudge so it killed me in the last few seconds of the hunt. I was so mad at myself

My counterpoint from a game dev perspective to that is that media deletions do not add an extra challenge and would be essentially free multiplier for money grinders since they could just set it to 3 and not take pictures

Media deletions only affect optional objectoves but i think the custom difficulty options are intended for use to increase/decrease diifculty of the identification and survival of the ghost

Hey tip for apocalypse cuz I do it all the time

Most people know about the parabolic microphone of course you should use it I prefer the office or the chapel of course make sure the ghost is on the same floor as you hopefully in a close wing but make sure the most important part
You must be in control of the hunt okay you don't need to loop with the whole time you don't need to put yourself in danger if you can time the hunt so that you're trying for the picture in the last like 5 seconds maybe 8 seconds depending on if you're smudging it your survival is the main key

So the basic is that they all do the same thing 5 seconds the ghost cannot hurt you 7.5 for moroi.
As you increase in the tier number two will slow the ghost a little more number three will stop the ghost and each of them burn for a little longer but that doesn't mean that they stop the ghost for longer it just means that you have more of a chance to hit the Ghost with the burn

I found that if you hold tarot cards you cant flick the light and if your using the thermometer tier 3 and try to turn on/off lights you can make the lights stuck in their state the were before.

I just had the ghost event version of a DOTS hunt lol. I had a Yokai that was very active with the dots, and it went into dots mode right as I wished to see the ghost with the Monkey Paw, which caused it to turn invisible and walk towards me during the event, instead of turning solid and standing in one place. The photo still worked though.

not sure where to say about this, but since the latest patch it seems there is a lot of discrepency between players not seeing things that the others are, for example 2 streams i was just watching, only one player could see some uv feet prints that were clearly there for the other player,
also media has not been showing up accuratly for all players involved when we go to delete some things, for example 1 player tried to delete dup salt and for us it shows they trying to delete unique anything else,
and we have had some media for no reason try to delete it self from nowhere and have had to be careful to cancel them before it gets deleted.

these are just a few things i have noticed and experienced, im sure this patch has messed up more for others. just felt it should be let known.

Phantoms are flickering really rare and walks to the player while leaving emf 2, doesn't show on pics and drains your sanity when have LoS on you within 10m

Hey yall, I just got my t3 parabolic mic, so I'm planning to aim for the apocalypse III challenge. I know that the basic tips are to go to the chapel and hide behind the piano. only go in if you have favorable objectives. wait until the ghost is hunting in the chapel and then in the final few seconds of the hunt get its attention for a picture. are there any other tips you guys have? im especially concerned about identifying the ghost

It's worth noting that this is only during hunts. Ghosts do not flicker like this during events.
A safer way to confirm a phantom (besides using 3 evidence) is to take a picture during an event, and then look at the picture in the journal. If the picture says it's a ghost photo, but the ghost doesn't show up in the photo, then it's a phantom.

Train to identify ghost on 0 evi 0 sanity with default speed on Tanglewood/willow, it truly helps. Here's some ghosts which you should skip:

Phantoms(hard to take pic)
Jinns(impossible to identify)
Onryos(need to go to the ghost room to identify)
Yureis(hard to identify, only by ability)
Goryos(almost impossible to identify)
Mares(same like yurei)
Twins(i beat apoc 3 with them, but if you new and bad with ghost speed it can be hard to identify)
Polty(somtimes can be hard)
Shade
Obake

Jinns can attack your sanity when not hunting, and speed up when they see you from far away during hunts, but both of those abilities only work if the fuse box is on. If the fuse box is broken because custom difficulty, then Jinns are just a basic ghost with no abilities.

Basically yeah, also restart if ghost is too far(u cannot hear them on paramic from chapel) or to close

So if you're playing with zero evidence and a broken fuse box, Jinns are basically impossible to identify, there's nothing to set them apart from other ghosts.

I haven’t changed my setting since before the new update cause I used to use Text a few months back but then switched to Voice. Now sometimes I’ll load into a game and it would just automatically make me use Text and I’ve tried changing the setting and then changing them back and still no change. And it’s not every game either, it’s every few games it just randomly changes

Footstep speed is definitely your best bet, using a paramic.
But keep in mind ghost speed is 150%
