I'm experienced in using the spirit box and am very familiar with its conditions and how it works and for years up until a couple of weeks ago it was working perfectly for me. I've been struggling for these two weeks searching through this server and the subreddit for any sort of solution and half the time it was a conversation where the helper told them they were using it wrong, or asked for their player.log files before just giving up.

Ghosts killing through walls? That just doesn't happen, you're probably just not host. Campfire at Woodwind is fine for me? Tree rendering has always been bad. Random crashes is likely to do with hardware or drivers, video ev has never captured well, and the voice recognition issues are likely due to your voice settings

the rendering isn't game related. that's user related mostly to field of vision. Always been killed through walls. Especially the utility closet in Ridgeview, doors off hinges would make sense for decor and 'breakdown' of abandoned building, ouija board i found is tone of voice. one mate is heavy base shifted to tenor a bit and now recognizes everytime. box is hit or miss on person / alone / group / time more then anything. Thest are just my oppinion to aid in your rant 🙂

Long response, I'm sorry:
In a typical game, you search for 3 pieces of evidence.

In Nightmare (2 evidence) or Insanity (1 evidence) the ghost will semi-randomly hide 1 or 2 of the evidences you normally look for.

I.e. a Spirit (EMF, Ghost writing, spirit box) will randomly hide 1 or 2 of said pieces of evidence when you're hunting it. So it possibly won't write in the book, and/or give an EMF reading of 5.

How to survive a hunt ? I mean me and my friend died each time the entity want to kill us.We try to hide but we die before we can be close to a closet.

The incense will help with that. The closets are kind of tricky, but you can also hide behind certain objects in the environment

Edit: Incense unlocks at 14, will help buy you time to hide

Use corners and objects to block LoS from the ghost.
You have time before it can actually start moving if youre playing normal difficulties. So dont be afraid to just run away before you see the ghost. No shame in running from a ghost even when youre not sure.

As for the sofa, not really? Like Harleen said, corners, and crouching will def help. But kitchen islands, and certain other objects that are tall enough will also help.

There are hiding spots in the environment, but they're different on each map.

Btw. You can use the doors on the closets to block line of sight with the ghosts as well. So even if ghost is right behind you. You can swing that door open. Dip around that door and into the closet as youre closing it for that narrow escape.

Ghosts dont care if lights are on. They have unlimited range for seeing. So only objects stop them from seeing.
But you dont need to know the maps super good. Just when find room. Then find hiding spot. Make a plan of escape then.
