For a game like phasmo there's no good reason to actively prevent modding.
Not directly integrating it is one thing; it's fine to not wanna bother with that.

Then add an official way to integrate mods which would disable regular multiplayer and progression while a mod is loaded. It's as easy a solution as that- people who want to cheat will bypass anything you do to stop them from cheating anyways, so it's not a good reason to deny genuine people from having a little extra fun.

Gaming would not be the way it is today without modding, so to me it's just a spit in the face of your community to tell them "no, you're not allowed to play the game that way even if you specifically ensure you wont affect other player's game experience"

I went up ~50 levels in 2 days by running CWW 11x xp farms, so if you're really trying to grind it out, you could do it in like a week or two if you have a friend to help you (since you will periodically lose all the gear you use to make the xp farm work after prestiging)

They don't have to actively support the mods, just give the modders the tools they need to do it themselves and let the modders work it out. That's kind of what modders are doing anyways. Look at games like Minecraft or Beat Saber where they aren't helping modders in any way, they just allow them to modify the game's code as they wish.

TLDR "We won't stop you but we aren't gonna help you fix anything either or tiptoe around it" is a very healthy stance to modders

Admittedly the people complaining about broken mods is a little annoying but it's manageable in plenty of communities

My main stance on the subject is that if server issues were not a problem with it, they'd probably be more lenient with it. However, the servers were set up by one person who, at the time, did not expect the game to blow up the way that it did. With the game this far into its current development already, allowing mods would require them to rework the servers first, and that is a bigger project than people may think.

Every ghost in the game can be conclusively tested for except for the Yurei, Mare, and Goryo, I believe, and those three ghosts have behaviors that make it possible to test them with high- but not full- certainty, as well as conclusively eliminate them, so all in all if you test everything you can probably get the ghost right on like 95% of 0 evidence runs assuming you don't getcha ass killed

not really, on the first hunt the mimic can only be excluded depending on when the hunt happened. if the hunt happens before 30s the mimic hasnt had time to copy a ghost so it would appear as a regular ghost

this essentially means that on 0ev 0 sanity if you get hunted instantly and notice sm like obake shapeshift, you can actually rule mimic out immediately

Revenant -> Insanely fast when it sees you, slow as a snail when it can't
Deogen -> Speeds up as it approaches, then slows down to become the slowest ghost in the game when it's near you
Hantu -> When the breaker is off, it will give off cold/foggy breath. Additionally, no LOS speedup
Moroi -> Speed varies based on sanity- this will be a fast ghost on 0ev. Additionally, the Moroi's smudge blindness lasts for 7.5s instead of the standard 5s
Jinn -> If the breaker is on, it will speed up until it gets within 3m of you, at which point its speed will drop somewhat
Phantom -> Pay attention to the blinking; the phantom is basically invisible, only blinking "in" for short periods of time while remaining blinked "out" for long periods of time
Oni -> Opposite of the Phantom
Obake -> Will periodically change ghost model for one blink (shapeshifting)
Wraith -> Won't trample a salt pile even if it walks right over it (can't step in salt)
The Twins -> Will be slightly slower or slightly faster than normal; this is hard to spot in the first hunt but it becomes very obvious if they switch speeds in subsequent hunts
Poltergeist -> Will LAUNCH shit across the room/map, and will always throw something every half-second if it can
Myling -> Quiet, footsteps can only be heard from about the range at which it interferes with electronics
Yokai -> Is basically deaf, it can't detect voices or electronics unless you're basically right up in its face (2.5m away)

In multiplayer you can test banshee by seeing if it will switch targets.

Have a friend hiding but ready to get the ghost's attention.
Wait for a hunt or start one with a cursed object.
If the banshee ignores you to look for your friend, gg, it's a banshee
If the friend chases you, smudge it, then hide and let your friend get its attention. If it ignores your friend, it's a banshee- if it doesn't and switches to chasing him, it isn't a banshee

Note that in multiplayer you will have to have ALL players in the investigation area to make this test conclusive. The idea is that in a hunt the banshee can only go after its favorite player, but that only applies if the favorite is in the investigation area, so you get everyone in and see who it targets, then get them to smudge it and see if it'll swap targets or just keep looking for the original dude

yurei, mare, and goryo all lack solid 0 evidence confirmation tests, however the yurei does have a nice elimination test that can serve as a kinda confirmation test. it's not a definitive conclusion but it's decently unlikely for a ghost to coincidentally go 90 seconds without leaving its room

luckily all those ghosts do have elimination tests so it's not the worst thing in the world, if a ghost leaves its room after being smudged but 90s havent passed since then, it's not a yurei, and if a ghost turns a light on it's not a mare. goryo cant switch rooms but switching rooms is a fairly low frequency event so it's a lot more annoying in that regard

if you are gonna play demonologist, from playing phasmo, you might not enjoy the game as much. there are lots of games that tried to copy phasmo but in my most honest and unbiased opinion, Phasmo has done a great job with how much variance there is. it's almost the same as B4B and the L4D2 situation. I play L4D2 for the variance. There are so much scripted events in B4B that made me stray away from it.

Demonologist having most of it's ghost events scripted, and some are a bit cheesy. The balance of Phasmo's eerie nature and randomness is what I love about it.

i thought that maybe the split millisecond it started to hunt THEN the cruci pops but idk how it works
