Eh, I'll work my way up to the higher difficulties eventually, once I get more confident with the game. Like, I know hunts are super valuable insight, but I'm still at the "avoid hunts at all costs" stage

So my current strat is to use the 5 min setup time on amateur wisely, try and locate the ghost room, drop a camera, D.O.T.S, writing book, and thermometer in the room, retreat to the van after the setup phase, and remotely watch for stuff that narrows it down

I have a lot of mixed feelings about it. One side, let people do what they want with their game, other side, it kind of fundamentally changes how the game is played by actively removing what makes it it... it. And with how long it takes to unlock things in normal settings, a lot of people seek out the fastest way to level + gain the best equipment.

Identifying ghosts by footsteps speed just feels wrong. At the very least, being able to filter lobbies for regular settings vs. custom lobbies is a happy medium

The entire event is a farce. They calculated the blood points earned during Halloween, calculated the average per day, timed that that to the time period between the event's start and 1 week prior to the event's end, and then pretended we had any chance to fail this event, even though normal ghost hunting would have easily met the goal.

The event is a sham. We could never have failed it. This is simply a delayed giveaway of a trophy and id card. No effort needed.

@acoustic rapids So no matter what, of course the devs have to pick a number of points needed to achieve each phase. As this was the first time they were doing this they weren't exactly sure how many bloodpoints were being gained per hour/per day, whatever.

Because console came after bloodmoon, they specifically had the progress so low/required points so high to give console players a chance to contribute to phase 1.

Based on data gathering, we know that with each phase the required # of points increased, about 20-25%. They were never going to let us fail, that's for sure, especially not the first event. They definitely fudged it at the end of Phase 3 for the bloodmoon to give people more time to claim it.

There's no indication that the progress is moving up without players actually playing, but there's honestly no real way to verify that.

But yeah, overall, I'm with you that it's kind of silly that most players dont' have to do anything, just log on and claim prizes. And unless the devs actually let us fail, it definitely feels like if the entire community chose to boycott the event, that no matter what the devs would tip the scales to let us succeed, just at a slower rate. It's a learning process for all, including the devs implementing a community feature.

The only functional difference between this event and standard play is a modified model, some Christmas decor and you can click a few boxes. It is otherwise functionally identical. It is a lazy attempt at a cookie-cutter bland event that pretends to care for the community by preaching community goals, as if we're all working together for a reward, when in actuality, the entire event was rigged from the start and could not be failed. Even if a single box was never opened, we've had the rewards through ambient play. It probably would've just taken about 2-3 days longer to unlock. It is a timed release wearing a skin-suit of "CoMmUnItY vAlUeS!". It is deceptive and abhorrent, especially as it proclaims to be better than the old, far cooler nuanced events with unique mechanics that everyone enjoyed.

This and Blood Moon were a first-kind-of-thing when it comes to Community Challenges, so we really had no idea how it was going to go until it was out in the wild. We did a bit of experimenting with the live game once Blood Moon was out, but that helped us inform the stats for Winter's Jest! Plus, we've left a bit of time at the end so folks don't miss the prizes. For future events like this, we're looking at what's possible in regards to things like auto-claiming so once an event is over, we can award those that took part with their prizes.

The issue is this is functionally a timed release. None of this is earnt. It's a cookie-cutter event that replaces blood vases for Krampus boxes, with a fixed set of gloss that will not be failed, demonstrable ability from the devs to. Rig it to be won in the final week and no actual effort. It is a participation trophy where items of interest are swapped out and most progress is dictated by mechanics present in ambient play.

By actually making the events failable, you create a possibility where players can fail, and nobody gets the rewards, and everyone is angry. But it's really hard to make it seem failable while still allowing the players to feel like they're racing against a clock or a goal. I don't see a lot of people who like the new style, and I do see a lot of people who would rather see more of the old style of events again. Fun scavenger hunts, hidden easter eggs, stuff you need to puzzle out- Not just this community goal nonsense.

It's an entirely theoretical possibility presuming that half the playerbase disappeared. I would propose this event would be won by the deadline if you removed all Krampus box points, only leaving in the ambient ghost hunting ones. Aka stuff you get through standard play.

Even if there is community events - which I am not inherently against - they should:

1. not be tied to trophies. Leave that to individual challenges
2. work based on in-game challenges outside of standard ghost hunting tasks. Things you need to go out of your way for.

I think this system has potential, but right now, it is a giveaway. I think this system would only really be good when cosmetics come out, and then the goals can be focused to earn new shirts etc.

Stuff that the community is less ardently invested in actually earning than the trophies.

As someone who has done every event , I personally really enjoyed and had lots of fun with the events where you had to find things, like Easter egg hunts, the one where you had to shoot the snowmen etc , and also the one where you had to find the cookies and had the ghost eat them, I remember having the most fun when playing those as they were fun to do with friends , but at the same time I think the community events are good but can feel a bit grindy and they tend to not be as fun as there isn’t much unique stuff to mess around with, if there was a way to combine the 2 I think it would be really good 💕💕

Technically 4 hours in most any game would be enough to form an opinion on gameplay, mechanics, overall quality thus far and depending on the game, sufficient time to experience the full story start to finish.

In the case of this event 4 hours is plenty time to realise that it is fundamentally nothing crazy, just a reskinned map with a reskinned ghost and some new interactive items all tied to the same progress board system that several other in game rewards are tied to. Doesn't mean the event is bad, just that for anyone expecting anything outside the normal Phasmophobia experience, it may be disappointing as overall there is next to no difference between an event map and a regular map outside of visuals. For most that's fine but for some it won't be
