#Terk Mech & Tech

Sentinel + any immobilize is great for getting more use out of the senti outside of Mordred's special techs.
Its fine but clarent true strength lies in barraging, mordred is able to skirmish twice instead of barrage with its tech attack
It'a just You're getting more out of other heavy weapons.
Ahhh ok so then like the charged blade?
The heavy one
I love the idea of the sentinel and hard point reinforce tho, I didn’t even see that connection
I mean it depends on what you want.
But if you mean Tempest Charged then that is a terrible Idea, you cannot use a superheavy for that.
The regular heavy charged blades lol
Ok let us suppose that I am in an in again off again relationship with my dice when it comes to damage. Then I presume the standard heave charged blade is good?
Yeah not the super
Its always at least decent
I will try it with the standard heavy melee and when I start rolling like crap I will swap blades and never look back.
Thanks for the advice yall I suck at the build and was thinking to dip into Gengis for the flamer so shows what I know
I... I have a build with the flamer.
URPL is also a certified "not a bad choice" but you will want opcal to get rid of the inaccurate so your a-Mort shots don't end up whiffing so often.
The benefit of URPL is that if you are booking someone who's using a melee range, you can decide "ait am done" for no cost by applying the knockback, and interrupting Crown Breaker. But then again you could just put Supermassive on something else.
Hey so. Guillotine from the Brudenell, right?
If I put a Supermassive mod on it, could it push the target into itself??
No
Kk
How would Suleiman's Roll With The Punches and Cable Winch work with Brudenell's Kinetic Battery?
Roll With The Punches: 1/turn when you are hit by an attack that deals any amount of kinetic or explosive damage, you may reduce its damage by 1 and force it to trigger knockback 2. Against attacks from allies, you may reduce the damage by 2 and give it knockback 4 instead.
Kinetic Battery:
1/turn, if the Brudenell would move, voluntary or involuntary, it may negate that movement and take heat equal to the distance it would have moved, and store kinetic charges equal to that distance up to a cap of Grit+4.
Cable Winch System (summarized): Attach to adjacent willing or unwilling character. Once attached, you and the target may not move more than 5 spaces away from eachother. Either character can row the other, obeying the rules of lifting and dragging and become slowed while doing so.
The Question is basically: "Can Brudenell say: "Naw I don't move" and generate Kinetic Battery charges, after punching Suleiman and knocking him back 4 spaces, while attached via cable winch. Basically just having a decent way to generate Kinetic Battery charges
Im pretty sure you have to actively tow the other guy, and cant drag the other guy with you if you are being involuntarily moved
Aww darn it

IPS-NGIAMBELLI Striker/Support Carrying IPS-N most advanced communication and targeting array, the Giambelli is an unassuming package to the casual observer. About the size of a Caliban with a distinctive large back-mounted array that gives it the nickname Hunchback, the Giambelli low profile al...

Ok, love the Rod from God
Also, found a minor typo
in the LONGINUS strike, should be "...until the target successfully Hides or makes a System save...."
Would posibly have it having entered less than 3 unique spaces, rather than moved
Actually, cracks knuckles
Can I ask to edit?
nah, i'm still fighting random drive by edits to this day
plus this is mostly for mechanical/balance review, full polish later
Coolio!
Having not actually played the game yet, I can't comment on balance, but all seems quite clear
And I totally get drive-bys
Presuming the destab has no actual damage?
works like gravity gun
Yup, gotcha!
Possibly a little wrinkle, not sure if it'd fit
Have the gun retrieve a thrown weapon adjacent to the target
IPSN: "We can't have two size 1/2 mechs with "Flayer" guns, it would confuse people"
simulationist are mechanics based on the fluffs like
"Oh if you use the Sol Laser Rifle to target a body of water it creates soft cover because laser water steam"
if you use the sol laser rifle to target a body of water, Union Fish & Game find you and kill you for disrupting the ecosystem
man-made bodies of water are OK though
Ah, right
I mean, what are they gonna do to you? You have a Sol Rifle
The Giambelli is a very cool and interesting mech suite, drowning people in artillery fire is objectively funny. Bonus points for them being just a little guy
Feels a little like a 1/2 size Kidd, but that ain't bad
Im just a little guy 🥺 networked to the entire IPS-N military industrial complex
Friends in high places, one might say
now watch as everyone is within rod of god distance with a smidgen of Jager Kunst II
Honestly, one mech I'd like to see would be a pathfinder/recon/marksman
Like, lockons, intel, and snipey
If you want archetypes
Swallowtail
Turns out, I just need to read, lol
Second suggestion: Axe-slinger mech
I feel like Auto edge alingment is lost on weapons that have more than 1 accuracy.
Wait no. Nvm
I'm thinking wring.
*wrong
It's such a weird mod I love it but my brain refuses to comprehend it properly.
It literally just “whatever accuracy you end up adding to your attack roll, is also your reliable”
I know, that's simple.
But the fact that you need accuracy to get reliable is almost counterintuitive.
Still raise your min damage
Yeag.
I feel like it's really good on weapons that already have generally low damage.
its not a helldiver thing aaaaaa
In love with the Giambelli.
really love mechs, but also really love anything that places mechs in a more "combined arms" context
have you seen Indara?
I don't recall
HA/AUNINDARA Striker/DefenderGilgamesh Variant Aunic mechs remain largely a mystery for Union forces, difficult to recover and reserve engineer due to their unique technology. Designated the Indara by the Think Tank, the Indara is one of the most commonly encountered Aunic chassis, forming the ...
Combined Arm thing mean to work alongside infantry and subalterns (drones) like an IFV
oh, your Gilga alt-frame!
Yes, also in love with that one
(you have made many homebews that I adore)
love love love the idea of carrying your drones (and/or infantry) around with you
also Indara seems very Titanfall to me, which is also good
A free lock on is pretty powerful
Maybe on the Destabilizer, the order of damage and shred should be reversed, make them shredded before the damage
They are simultaenous effect you can order them as you wish
The most egregious thing about that frame is that it's not classified as artillery tho
Because its not?
Destabilizer should disallow mods and core bonuses like the Gravity Gun.
I love that Giambelli does damage with saves. Previously I had been pondering a way to do that myself. Thinking about things like guided anti-tank missiles that you have to defeat with an agility or systems save.
"Terk lied as naturally as he breathed"
Otherwise, it's too powerful with Uncle.
I haven't even played Helldiver
its a reference to this thing
Hellburners (Dutch: hellebranders) were specialised fireships used in the Siege of Antwerp (1584–1585) during the Eighty Years' War between the Dutch rebels and the Habsburgs. They were floating bombs, also called "Antwerp fire", and did immense damage to the Spanish besiegers. Hellburners have been described as an early form of weapons of mass...
That's...Close enough xD
added the no modify clause
(I haven't had the chance to play much Lancer yet, let alone with homebrews, so take my opinions with a big ol' grain of salt.)
I'm looking at Longinus and the phrase "unique spaces" isn't really used much elsewhere in Lancer, is it? Maybe it'd be easier and/or more readable to say they have to be at least Range 3 from the space they started the turn in? 🤔
Also I love how Heuristic Targeting is very Farme-agnostic, but dovetails so nicely with Combat Controller + Hellburner. Like, you can use it right away, LL1, with grenades and such. But as soon as you've got the Frame it's basically auto-include every time you print it.
in very early draft Targeting was its frame trait but then i thought hmm other frames can have this, as a treat
weapons and tech attack got so much support, Save can have this one
It occurs to me that Combat Controller would prevent the use of Spotter 2's free-action Lock On, is that intentional?
But it does not contraindicate Spotter 3's quick action, which is a very nice combo.
for all intent and purpose it is a lock on action that is just taken as a protocol instead of a QA
spotter 2 wordings is weird hmm why did it specify Quick Tech specificially lol
to prevent you from comboing it with Marker Light?
or apply Lock On through Blackspot?
or other methods of Lock On application, I guess
those just apply the lock on condition and not the lock on action specifically
because the RAW it also doesn't trigger if you overcharge to lock on
it doesn't? that's news to me
is that because RAW an Overcharge counts as it's own action instead of what you're actually doing with it?
As a Protocol, the Giambelli may take the Lock-On Quick Tech action. It is considered to have taken the Lock-On Quick Tech action when it does so for all intent and purpose, including duplicate action restriction.
more wordy but should get the point across
well OC makes it no longer a quick but a free by some interpretation its no longer a quick tech
🤔 yeah, I'm not sure if I can think of a better way to phrase it. In that state it at least functions as intended.
Giambelli, Spotter 3, being dragged around (or Mule Harness'd) by a striker so it doesn't have to move on it's turn sounds like a menace
oh oh
Giambelli being carried by an Indara

(I have put a lot of thought into the Party Bus concept)
hello! I am currently building a ll6 mordred & I am having difficulties deciding whether or not to get TTT, auto-stab, or OPcal. I am running a clarent + auto-edge
Autostab.
is it very cut & dry? I imagined that the irreducible damage from TTT would be useful against armored targets & such. would that just not be useful enough to make up for the lack of consistent accuracy?
Clarent have baseline accurate already i actually think opcal works here
I would go TTT if you are using non accurate heavies like the kinham or nanocarb
Sure, it's mechanically not artillery, but the vibes of it are so very artillery
for the Dragontail, is the grenade associated with the explosive clamp profile of the Hou Yi Gauss Crossbow meant to have the crossbow's range or the grenade's range?
I am in love with the Giambelli. I might be biased, but I think it's right up there with the Arthur, the Dagon and the Brudenell for "absolute coolest mech Terk has ever made". It's going to be consuming my brain for the next 2-4 business weeks. I'm rotating it in my mind like I'm gently cooking it with the Tukhachevsky's microwave gun.
(my one and only comment about it is that blast 5 seems potentially a little absurd even for a core power nuke. I suppose the idea of it is that friendly fire is gonna be almost impossible to avoid and it can barely be outside of minimum safe distance, but it's still enormous.)
the brain rotisserie
I'm reminded of some personnel scale nuclear weapons the US was experimenting with that had shorter range than safe distance
That may have been apocryphal, come to think of it
The range being shorter than safe distance, the weapon was real - it was called the Davy Crockett
Didn't learn about this until I binged metal gear solid 3
Most people would laugh at the concept, until they realize the US really tried for it lmao
The m28 Davy Crockett had a range of 1.25 miles while the safe distance from 20 tonnes of tnt (the equivalent power of its nuclear warhead) is 2.2 miles lmao
The m29 did have a range of 2.5 miles though
range 5 blast 7
We love the good ol' m28 /j
Still psyched about Giambelli, but having had some time to sit with it now, I'm wondering about Gungir missile
It seems very similar to Spear Charge (Gilgamesh 3) but with an extra, complicated tripwire mechanic laid over top. And knocking enemies Prone instead of doing AP damage. (And with longer range I suppose since it's line is infinite.) I'm wondering what the tripwire mechanic is in service of?
I imagine it's more so like it's sort of a fire and forget device but as a "drone"
I see it as better than spear charge as you don't have to focus on killing someone with it, and it's not hindered by the prospects of it being a mine option
you can just let it vibe, and it'll do its own thing, and because it's a drone system, you can use things like Shepherd Drone and Puppetmaster on it to move it and its line into whatever position you may need it, blocking off paths for foes to take, unless they wanna take the damage, plus prone, plus incur the wrath of more damage that prone can cause
Mind, this is just how we personally see it, having gone over the license a fair bit today, but it's an immensely more versatile tool than spear charge is, at the cost of no AP by comparison
While I love Spear Charge, and I adore Gilg, the thing does require line of sight to use, and i mainly just deploy it as a way to cause decent area denial and tick up loadout die.
This just feels purely better by comparison
its much closer to a mine than a grenade
with good aim and positioning you can cut a map almost in half until a brave little NPC step on it or try to shoot the drone
Gungnir also only trigger on hostile ;)
also, way cheaper at 2sp lim 3 vs spear 3sp lim 2
Yeah but you were meant to be behind a hill when using it, and then hiding behind that lol

Things are finally cooling down for me a lil', so I'm returning to working on this ^^

re: Giambelli's Destabilizer
it occurs to me that because it's a Save instead of an Attack roll, it misses out on some things that can add Accuracy to attcks, like Vanguard 1, Tortuga's overwatch bonus, optimized accuracy core bonus, etc
not sure if that's intentional, but if not could add something about how bonuses to accuracy instead count as difficulty added to the save
can you double up on lock-on benefits from Heristic Targeting if you attack with a weapon that also forces a save?
for example: consume lock-on and attack with a nexus, crit hit, force a save through centimane
Its intentional, it works precisely like gravity gun
Phasma cannot overwatch-grapple through intangible because the overwatch itself still obeys the rules, do I understand that correctly?

Iteration 2 of my disaster idea
Who would have guessed than not putting on a 4 SP and 3 SP gadgets would free up build space
My thoughts on the Frundsberg rework:
My main concern is with Dreadnought. It's an interesting concept (and the first half is perfectly fine) but I can't imagine myself ever boosting more than twice in a single turn, and even then I think the overcharge would usually be better suited to a different action, especially considering 1. how heat intense this mech already is and 2. how limited overcharge is unless you want to melt yourself down
I'm glad Forlorn Hope is getting a buff, I always felt like only max speed on a mech where you're already not super incentivised to invest into agility made the already situational-feeling core all the more situational.
Not sure I really like the nerf to At Arm's Length, but with Push of Pike halting enemy movement it's probably fine.
Crashing Blow is definitely better reserved as a system than a trait as the Frundsberg couldn't really make much use of it but I do feel like this frame is already really choked on SP, and I'm not sure it's effective enough to justify it, especially when the game as a whole already feels like running high Hull is a necessity (and considering that this thing doesn't really benefit from Systems besides the extra SP). Personally I'd give it 6 SP base but I'd honestly be fine taking it as is too
Everything else looks good. I'm still not too attracted to the NHP (mostly because of its SP cost, again, but that's just how NHP's are) but it definitely feels more appropriate for the design than the current one.
Oh and I love the blade guard buff. This frame really feels like it should have Guardian already, but I'm perfectly fine having it stuck onto blade guard
(Everything I've said is not really a big deal in the grand scheme of things. The only thing I'm genuinely not convinced by is the weird overcharge + boost shenanigan)
You can just walk and boost twice with dreadnought no OC needed
You can OC to boost like 3 times if you want but dreadnought allows walk into double boost baseline
Its there to let frundsberg handles “ok im not near a chokepoint ill walk to it in like 2 turns and twiddle my thumbs all the while”
Couple of questions about the license stuff:
- Can Crashing Blow be used with improvised attacks
- With Crashing Blow going to the license and Blade Guard going to LL2.. What's being removed?
Crashing Blow also works with jump!
Many people forgot abt jump but frames can all jump 1 space over and up to their size so baseline frundsberg can jump 3 space upward, exactly enough to trigger fall damage, thus giving even more punishment to enemy who decides to end their turn near you
No improv attack
Unbalancing Blow is being removed
Aww, so you can't Highlander Burial people. :(
Only dark souls plunging attack
my main problem with it before was that it relied on you falling adjacent to someone but now that it's not necessary anymore its good then
Yeah now you can use your threat
Build +threat on frundsberg people i see many “im going to big sword 1 million damage” frunds when the frame scale absurdly well with any + Threat
oh yea i love threat on the frundsberg
Can we get the 50 billion threat Toku meme?
Toku still king of threat range
i don't remember how exactly but i did once devise a build that would get the zwei up to 6 threat with the core active
and im sure you can go bigger
Also, with Crashing Blow being LL1 now.. This means you can go full RULES OF NATURE! on people.
i know that getting it to 5 was external batteries + an ipsn core, but i can't remember what the 6th was. probably some homebrew stuff
thanks for clarifying some of the changes, im still unfortunately unable to read things properly 💔
Dunk wing returns
Just dont miss or that fall damage is going to obliterate your tiny hp pool
yea thats kinda what i was getting at with my point on SP
hull feels so necessary, no less on this mech
this poor frame is starved for SP
I can be open to making zwei 1sp or adding another profile if the fey mood strikes me
finally superheavy terashima
Honestly, the idea of putting a Zwei on an Atlas as a nodachi is cool to me.
As someone that tried to fit big budget systems in a zwein frund, please god yes the 2 SP cost on a 5 SP base frame is cruel
Even tho now a third profile (to do what, half swording? Or maybe a thrust/impale) For the 2SP cost would be funy
Why not give frundie just one more system point surely nothing terrible will happen
How it atlas ever sustaining that heat lol
It is 3 ranks in an HA frame. Just grab Superior by Design.
How much heat was it again? 4?
That like... doubles the base heat. That's bang for your bunch right there.

the list of things in lancer that are named "Skirmisher" grows ever-larger
you still can't titanfall :V
this is more like Tactical Breach Wizard and XCOM Chimera Squad
exhibit 1:
damn, Line of Sight rules got hands
I was just mental-workshopping RP Combat on a tactical map with some light rules with regards to movement and time limits. The problem is that RAW, initiative is player only. NPCs cant start combats outside of tactical
Im having issues coming to terms with that and squaring that
This replaces the narrative combat rule
are you going to attempt to implement Bonds into this?
nah
I want to seperate Narrative from this as much as possible
Narrative can set up situations and modify how the battle starts but like being the Wolf won't give you instant kill action in this
I'll playtest if you want help
it frees up "how you make your character personality" and "how you make your character fight" shackles
and its meant to have as little set up as possible to play
sure, its still mega super early tho
SKIRMISHER “Si Vis Pacem Para Bellum” OVERVIEW Skirmisher at a glance Skirmisher is an optional add-on to Lancer, expanding and reworking the narrative combat section of the game into its own mini tactical battle. What Skirmisher is meant to do: Simulate small scale, close quarter, pe...
heres what I have so far, gotta sleep
Probably needs alot of clean ups and checks
I mean, so far it passes the KISS test. Seems like it might be easy to set up and run quickly. Weapon damages and ranges look like they should largely be portable from lancer PHB with maps being suggested 15x15.
here's my feedback - I can leave them in comments if you feel like you are ready to share this doc, otherwise I'll continue to relay feedback here:
A lot of the cool narrative crunch that comes from tactical combat is having weapon options that feel distinct and impactful. Lancer's pilot weapons are designed to be vague and if someone min/maxes without restrictions they're always going to walk into combat with the most optimal weaponry - a medium signature weapon since it has decent range and does good damage consistently without needing to constrain yourself to ordinance or loading rules. Sidearm is made basically useless so you're never incentivized to go with one since all "attacks" are quick actions.
So the problem is "how do we stop players from simply min-maxing medium signature?". Maybe there's a creative way to make weapon classes (light A/C, Medium A/C, light Signature, Medium Signature) feel more distinct and allow for tactically relevant actions that have a sorta cinematic feel. I'm thinking the sort of "I kill with my heart" style flavor. This is a spitball, but it's just the zygote of an idea. Maybe once per encounter there's a Grit Action each character has and its tied to either a piece of equipment or a weapon class. As the round goes on each weapon type has a special "Grit" action. Grit actions can be spent by doing "Gritty" stuff - like dealing damage, taking damage, getting allies up, etc, and different weapons accumulate grit points differently. Maybe melee weapons as a whole accumulate a lot more grit points more quickly for example. Maybe different weapon classes have different riders for grit points? Dunno, just shootin from the hip here.
Oh theres going to a whole separate weapon and equipment section that replace the pilot stuff
ooooh okay. I was actually thinking that keeping 99% of the stuff in the PHB makes it very extensible
But if youre planning on making special rules for weapons and equipment that works just as well
Hard to make it interesting with like 3 weapons baseline from the PHB :P
Still going to be relatively simple and less complicated than mech weapon
No damage type, less wacky stuff, basically two weapon types (melee and ranged) and no talents
yeah keeping it talentless, is smart
I will say, keeping the simple weapon groups could be cool and allowing pilots to flavor their weapons as they see fit would probably be a benefit to you and to players who want to just quickly look at their pilot sheet and not retain any additional documentation
my suggestion was going to be to customize your weapons some other way. For example:
A light A/C weapon might be eligible for one of a few "special attributes" (that might be simple additions of tags on the lancer pilot sheet"
Monomolecular Filament: attacks cause some sort of bleed
Aerogel Composite: this weapon is light and can make an additional attack as a free action
something like taht
I can rotate that
Happy to help brainstorm if you'll have me. I'll be around this weekend if you wanna jam on it
More spitballing based around the idea of Grit attacks and chaining them together with weapon types/tags. I think it might be something worth playing with but may not work as well in actual playtesting ,especially since there are no attack rolls required. That being said, it also gives players a risk-reward to balancing their dodges rather than just incentivizing them to build up as much dodge as humanly possible.
Grit Attack: This represents a badass special attack that you utilize to gain some sort of tactical advantage that comes at the expense of cover, opportunity or safety. Think rounding the corner and letting loose with a brace of pistols, standing up from cover and letting loose on the machine gun, or slash-dancing across the battlefield with dual knives. A grit attack makes use of unique weapon tags attached to pilot weapons. While the nature of the attack is on the player to describe, the functional use of a grit attack is to unleash the potential of special (grit) "tags" attached to weapons. A weapon can only have one grit tag associated with it at a time.
A grit action costs a Full action, Dodge must be at 3+ and is expended upon use.
So, a wrinkle to this I want to toss in, how would you handle intermingling Size 1/2 frames with this system?
Because I could imagine a situation where you can justify size 1/2 mechs operating in the same space as a Skirmish, but not everyone has a size 1/2 frame.
true, like a real slasher horror film with a Caliban hunting down the players
Does the Ember work inside the area of a Hive Drone?
Because the Hive Drone is a zone of soft cover, but only for allies.
Also, did anyone meme the Geryon yet?
Because I'm thinking it'd be "Behold! The awesome fires of God. The limitless power of pure creation itself. Look carefully. Observe how it is used for the same purpose a man might use an especially sharp rock."
That is a good question. Yikes
i mean the obvious answer is if there's a mech on the field, it's almost certainly winning the fight without issue
like an atlas vs 8 pilots is just an atlas killing 8 pilots speedrun
gotta be an Event Horizon meme for it too 🤔
at that point its a little bit more of "why are you resolving this narrative combat scene with a skirmish when it's a one-sided slaughter"
there are definitely emergent narrative situations that may involve the pilots being undercover, taking an unexpected fight, needing to use stealth, or being in spaces not conducive to even 1/2 size mechs
plus even in a 1/2 size mech, there are plenty of situations where you just dont have it on
its the GMs job to explain that away
I'm really interested in the concept of running a campaign where "scenes" can be tactical mech OR tactical pilot OR tactical narrative OR just storybuilding narrative. I think more options for broadening systems is really cool. I just dont want to edge out the other systems - Ideally we have space for all of these things and the question becomes "when do I use one and when do i use the other?"
because I dont want to run tactical pilot combat if it completely destroys the very cinematic tactical narrative where pilots can make use of bond-stuff
and then also skills like "apply fists to face" become way less important.
Seeing that being worked on in real time is really entertaining
im fighting google drive here
Torn between my maximalist ethos and the game’s own minimalist design
Since Tactical Breach Wizards was mentioned I cannot get the picture of a Titanfall Legion or Ion kneeling down, with a fullblown wizard dismounting, only to blast you with a magic missle or something, out of my head
Debating removing tech entirely from this thing
The insurmountable mountainous task of npc making
I've thought of something really funny. A Frundsburg probably regularly takes turns where it moves, boosts, then boosts. That makes it perfect for the ssc core bonus ghostweave which makes it invis so long as it only boosts and hides. I'm just imagining the enormous size 3 mech disapearing and the enemy hearing the loudest fucking "CLOMP CLOMP CLOMP" approaching.
That seems to be coming from everywhere, and nowhere, at the same time
I would love to see it kept in, the fantasy of hacking stuff in any scifi settin is just too good to leave it out, be it robotic hostiles or just stuff like doors, objectives or security measures
I feel like that’s overestimating what a mech can do, tbh? Like there’s still clearly a space where you can mix the two together.
they have 4 structure and weaposn that deal 1/2 of a pilots hp in one attack
mechanically its not even close, i think
pilots vs npcs, its technically within bounds for (most non-multi-structure) npcs
but player lancer frames are just so far above the cut i don't think its viable
Then make a skirmisher version of the mech and adjust the stats to fit. At the end of the day, these mechs and pilots are going to have to exist in the same battle space, it’s just the nature of the fact 1/2 sized mechs exist.
i mean, the point of this is to fit the narrative gap for personnel skirmishes sans full mech combat, i think
narratively, there's not really any way to get a size 1/2 mech to not start pasting humans without contrived reasons for them not to
theres major differences in-universe between "an armored hardsuit" and size 1/2 frames, even. just because similar sizes doesn't mean they're treated similarly or something
I mean, there is, it’s called making them powerful without making them game-breaking in the context of skirmish. You can sell the power difference without simply saying “alright, literally everyone dies”
Because “sans full mech combat” can be half in mechs and half stuck with just their personal gear in these sorts of cramped environments.
Assault tag exists
Assault rifle exists
Look inside assault rifle
No assault tag
It makes sense I just find it funny
These rules look pretty fucking neat and I can see the xcom inspired nature within it
Point of redundancy, the net launcher says it knocks people prone and immobilises yet prone auto immobilises
the problem is that it kinda quickly becomes a second game layer, and unlike mech, you can't really garuntee that there will be beep boops around
i need to take a hammer to this sytem and break it down even simpler
I think we need to see what enemy variety will be at first
Tbf I think it's already quite simple...
Hacking I think works, especially if flavoured as hacking hardsuits, weapons, cybernetics, targeting systems
Balance control lockout (hardsuit)
And it just that scene from Iron Man 3 of the Hammer Industry prototype
Balance control lockout (kicking in your shins)
Now if you want to run skirmisher it's incumbent upon the gm to balance any custom or 3rd party 1/2 size mechs that haven't been balanced for skirmisher by their creator. The point is to use as much premade content as possible and create rules that adapt this things like a series of inputs and outputs. If every mech present in skirmisher requires bespoke customizations then things become much more complex

Only nitpick of skirmisher is that pilot weapons could stand to have vaguer names. However, revolvers being the default pistol choice is badass and understandable to keep

No, the official programmer has said before that they health isn't necessary, people just got to be patient
Life happens and such
Fair enough
There is an unofficial LCP for a few things, Which is helpful for playtesting of those things, but they are unofficial and if they don't work that is not on Terk or the official programmer
Unofficial LCP here

This is of great wisdom
I was just thinking that a monkey mech could be good, then I remembered seeing this mech, is all

isn't the HA Civilain Exploration mech the Hannibal?
A multirole civilian mech equipped for exploration and hardened to handle extreme frontier environments. Exploration mechs are optimized for endurance and carrying capacity, and typically mount digging or cutting tools. Mechs rated for use by FFTs include the GMS SP23 Olympus, the IPS-N Lancaster, the SSC Silurian, and the HA Hannibal.
you mean the hannibal that was just shown fairly recently and is for far field research, not mech fight, versus the baldwin which has links going back as far as 2023?
as i link/replied to here
Yeah baldwin is made before fft was announced
And also multiple chasis can fill the same role gods know melee frame has 2 billion chassis
there can also be multiple civilian mec- yea
eventually someone will recreate the wheel (the fireman smiles)

Curious question. How does Hunter II interact with Reverse Guillotine?
Hold on, what happens if you have a non-movement action that causes you to be adjacent?
you can only pick it up with the standard free action thingy
I thought so, but was not sure if Hunter II overwrote that. Thanks!

HA are a pseudo bad guy in my campaign, but only one particular faciton on the planet they're operating on.
am i out of my mind or did terk draw a big horus mech holding a d20
ahhhh ok
Yea, there are good researchers, good teams, good people, within every organization/corpro, not just HA.
The fact is they're all evil, they all do fuckshit, we just know the most about HAs because the John Creitons were extra open about their shittiness, one was a seccom general and the other smote by ra
I think people forget that
the Three Pillar may be casus beli for HA, but its still the Three Pillars
- SSC literally has designer eugenics plansts and want to make "perfect humans"
- IPS-N is seemingly side-funding both sides of piracy wars, and have a shipping hegemony
- Horus's morals range and not everyone is an anti capital nhp liberation freedom fighter, plenty of people just suck
- And GMS is a galactic government funded/approved mega hegemony and has a near monopoly on cosmopolitan devices, and also being the ones who originally first armed the herycnian crisis
You're either funding a mega corporation state or associating yourself with a group of 4chan users who has morals ranging from technocatholics to complete anarchists
I kinda wanna poke that IPS-N (or at least its parent corporations) are accredited with exacerbating The Hercynian Conflict for profit. Which is entirely in character for a weapons trader but people tend to forget.
SSC also stole the tech for the Emperor from hercynia
Everyone had a hand in that tragedy

Some feedback on the Togo (and a bit on Reworked Heruka weapons and systems):
I’ve been running a LL6 Togo for a few combats with a full Togo license and a full Heruka (rework) license. Overall, it’s super fun to play and absolutely rips but probably a bit too much imo. The revved Thresher + chain blades combo is very very strong. I’ve got them on an auto-stabilized mount and paired with Duelist, the first revved Thresher attack is at a net +1 accuracy to make crits much more reachable than the default inaccuracy. And then all chain blade attacks are made with an accuracy on top of that.
Admittedly, my opinion may be a bit biased because I’ve been having insane luck (critting 5/7 of my last turns combats and getting 3-6 procs of revved thresher overkill). With a thresher crit and magma carapace though, I’ve been consistently 100-zeroing enemies with 2-3 structure in one turn which feels a tad overkill (pun intended).
As for Heruka stuff, the Stress-Point Finger Spear feels pretty on par with other aux melees within other licenses and has some fun mechanics which have yet to come into play but are fun flavor. I haven’t gotten to play around with the Dharmachakra yet since I haven’t had to take an off turn (but will let ya know how it works out when I eventually get abjured or jammed). And then Ten-Thousand Arms (my beloved). I got to use it once throughout the last mission but it felt so satisfying to fire off 5 mounts at once. Felt a bit strong (with most of the damage coming from another revved Thresher crit + chain blade combo) but it’s been more difficult to setup than expected. That plus the license and system point investment makes it pretty well balanced imo.
Suggestions:
Some sort of nerf on the revved Thresher + chain blade combo to account for how much it can do on a crit. Maybe some sort of Check to keep it Revved after critting instead of only rolling max damage being able to take it out of Revved. Or potentially setting a max limit to the amount of attacks the chain blades can be used for or maybe decreasing the chain blade kinetic damage to 1?
Tldr:
Togo is fun but a little strong, Revved Thresher Crits with Chain Blades and Magma carapace are insane and probably needs a nerf. With limited testing, reworked Heruka weapons are fun and feel unique and balanced. Ten-Thousand Arms is incredible and fun without being unbalanced.
Did you get usage out of the improv stuff in the heruka?
Nah he didn’t touch that
Yeah it’s mostly Togo feedback lol
not sure how to rotate it since thresher is very much overkill georg in the ammoun of dice it throws out 🤔

Glide Configuration reads
When you start your turn airborne, you may activate this system.
But it doesn't specify if you use an action to activate it, or what. It sounds like it's meant to be a Protocol, but it doesn't actually say so.
VALKYR Spear is very neat. But it's interactions with being airborne and landing make me wonder how it'll play out in a microgravity space environment, where certain hexes might just be open space with nowhere to "land" directly beneath them. No doubt a GM could have fun puzzling that out at the table.
SUSANOO is very very iiiinteresting. I can't think of what you'll actually use it to accomplish at the moment, but I'm sure once I get a break and start reading through rules and NPC profiles I'll find lots and lots. Bracing comes to mind? Other things that would mitigate damage like Invisible, or result in Reactions?
All in all, looks like a pretty neat frame and license. 👍
Theres a ton of npc stuff that keys off getting attacked or getting hit with an attack
Most obvious is like defensive reactions but also things like deathcounter or aegis net
Desperately want to see a gilgamesh w/ maxxed limited charges mounting 3 skyfall missiles
With Jet Upper and a lot of Knockback, or two people with it (and the enemy not taking an action in between them) and moderately large amounts of knockback, you can get them more than 10 spaces above the battlefield.
cannot take reactions until they start their turn below that ceiling.
Lot of SP and stuff needed, not at all broken, my interpretation might be wrong since the section I took that from talks about it in a manner that suggests that it might mean voluntary movement. Just a fun thing I thought of.
Oh you need a lot of knockback you say, oh well I know just the machine for you
Specifically I need 10 knockback on a melee attack, while still having 2 system points for Jet Upper
Oh I can get you over 20 knockback
I believe you. Lot of work just to deny them reactions instead of knocking them out of range of everything
Is it not the point of lancer to do wild things in overcomplicating ways?
The better thing would of course be a teammate knocking them 3-4 spaces up so you can knock them the full 20 back without terrain stopping them
Yeah tbh it’s kinda a weird balance cause the thresher and chain blade combo on any other mech than the Togo seems pretty balanced by the overkill. Just the Togo eliminating the downside of overkill leaves it feeling a bit overturned imo. I’m sticking with the Togo for my next mission so I’ll update with more feedback and what happens when my luck turns and the non-stop loop of Kick Back cuts out
If I put OpCal on a Rat King gun do the drones get that bonus?
Yes, but sputnik drones deal half damage and opcal only works 1/round
Me reading persistence: "Damn that looks likea good trait... Maybe... Huh... As a gm I never take that action..."
I love that core system
Any idea as to the vibe of equipment? Or is this an alt-frame?
Me abt to hit you with the prepare fold space
Its very much a “third trait as a ribbon” thing
Not super influential but its there as a treat
God damn
One thing, the Active CP should be "The Sinking of Teeth", no double plural
Right?
I didn't tell my players about prepare cos I mostly forgor + It'seasily abusable. They found out about it, and I'm now basically saying to them. "You can use it, if you wish. But if you want to use it I will use it in the exact same ways you do"
Prepare and Disengage are in the “almost never used and often forgotten abt unless someone think up some absolutely devious licks”
If my players start hitting me with "Tortuga: Prepare to skirmish immediately" for free accuracy or "Prepare to eject power cores their first action" I'm going to hit them with a hammer in the kneecaps
Disengage is always there to save you (disregard the fact that its a whole full action)
And yeah its teeth i am eepy 🙃
Our group just uses prepare for "First round, I moved, boosted, and still nobody's in range. Might as well"
But "Prepare to Skirmish immediately" is dirty lol
Im pretty sure that standard Tortuga shenaningans
And because prepare always happens after the triggering action you are giving the enemy a window to disrupt that in exchange for acc
Since you cant prepare if the enemy start their turn skirmish
They can move out of range, or hit you with a disable before you can skirmish
Say an assault runs into skirmish range and shoots you then ends their turn (Not elite or ultra). it is legal for the Tortuga to activate and say
"I prepare to skirmish the assault if the enemies take any action"
Boost out of range
And the nature of delay is still opening you up to potentially being bojangled by npcs before you get your prepared action off. Like a mirage taking their turn and blipping the assault away. Its a fair trade off imo and nothing too gamebreaking.
Hehe blipping
I love the Gorshkov but what are people doing for builds?
I am having a bit of trouble wrapping my head around what to do with it
I have a loose whitespace build that uses the Integrated Mount core bonus to fire off a 3-weapon Skirmish, use Infiltrator 1,2, and 3, and then Hide again.
DSAS and 2 EMBER Thermobaric Nexi
The Murky Water Cloak means that the EMBER, theoretically, always would do the burn damage.
The use case I was thinking of was triggering it off of an allied character, so it also wouldn't conflict with a potential overwatch. You're right that there are limitations, but it's still quite handy
horus looked at mourning cloak and asked "why does this thing have an invade system and 0 ta, we'll show em"
and here we are
Ooo can you drop the build?

[An object is There, and this is its number Here. Now make it two numbers, a simple +1 will do, and There an object is now two. But one cannot become two, so one will become one half and one half.]
->
the existing translation mixes up the 2 versions of the verb for 'to be', and uses 'hazlo' (which is mostly "do an action or make an item") weirdly imo. 'ahora sea dos numeros' translates to 'now let there be 2 numbers" or "now make it become two numbers - similar to the idiomatic "sea doble" for "make it a double". also ahi/alli/alla are increasing levels of distance - with "alli" being the one u want, probably. 'ahi' would be like. like "right there", though, distance-wise
the existing last sentence also reads as "but one cannot change into two, so one will return to one half and another", and i changed it to "but one cannot be two, so one turns into to one half and one half"
Solo los ciegos caminarían sobre un puente de vidrio sin terror.
caminarian = "they would walk" as in hypotheticals or doubt. if that was machine translated, it probably interpreted it as a request ("may they walk?") incorrectly
it'd probably just be Solo los ciegos pueden caminar sobre un puente de vidrio sin terror.
("they can walk")
There is no scabbard. It cannot be sheathed.]
->
No hay vaina. No se puede envainar.
"no tiende funda" means "i don't have a sheath", no hay means "there is not/none". funda & enfundar (o revistir) is 'cover'/'to cover' as in a sheathe or a holster, vaina & envainar is the fancier word that specifically means for like. a sword. i think its scabbard vs sword really
it sounds a little more dramatic with vaina/envainar but i think its worth it for the alliteration
for the key one i'd probably swap convertirlos into forjarlos (we must forge them into blades, instead of turn them into blades)
a fun other alternative could be writing it to say "an object is over there, and its number there. and now make it two numbers, and right there the object is two" or something, with the wording implication being "this object is rapidly approaching somehow", but it doesn't make much sense in either language like that :)
This is greek to me 🥲 i just asked an argentinian friend to translate it for me but they had no context of what the thing im writing is referencing
ur grammar structure was fine, just wonky words. u have is over esta in the first 3 words, lol (just glazed over that one i bet - no shame there, i do it all the time). entonces should be luego (or just ahora). entonces isnt used for "then do this", it's only used for 'if-then' in that context, where 'luego' is just 'next' more idiomatically
the only one thats actually like. minorly grammatically incorrect is the first blink slicer one, tbf
unless u count heresy's just being conjugated differently than the og sentence
the current translations are reasonable sans es -> esta in the first 3 words of blink slicer :)
I almost failed Spanish 2 so i have zero idea what any of this is so ill just copy whatever is here into there
repasted for clariity which my final versions were
ok spanish 2 they teach u one verb tense for the year mate lol
Theres 7 of em per word per tense and my brain cant hold that many words
but yeah translating is a lot of like. figuring out how to say things in ways that actually mean the same thing
and it doesnt help when spanish has 3 different is/to be verbs, and like 4 variations on to make
Vietnamese doesn’t conjugate at all
ok yeah but like
i need a full family tree to know the proper form of address for that relative
When in doubt just cô chú or cô bác if older
I only remember a handful of my relatives the rest i just default back to that
fair enough!

Just thought of something. If the Brudenell is slowed, can it still expend kinetic battery charges to increase its movement?
I'm trying to figure out if I can make a hyperdense armor Burdenell work
Because you are still only making your standard movement, you just are increasing your speed
Yeah I'd argue you can use Kinetic Battery to increase your movement while Slowed
Here is another fun one. If you are within range to use pankrati 2 charge on someone, can you cancel that movement and store that with kinetic battery, even though you didn't end next to that person?
Yeah I'd also say no to that
Like, you have Speed 5, Vidi 2 spaces, get 8 KB charges
Funny free action to take 8 heat
Hrm, does Kinetic Battery negation require you to be able to physically allowed to make the movement?
Can you just "move" into a wall but negate it?
Build up speed by running into the wall
Then I'd say it depends on the Pankrati - if you end your turn movement adjacent and would not be able to move in a straight line to another adjacent space, then you couldn't use the remaining movement
Weird edge case
Yeah I agree with that lol
Chrging at a mech, slamming on the brakes to charge up some giant flywheels, and punching a dude into next week is just dope
Ergo, possible
Yeah exactly
Walking into a wall to heat up? Less so
But it is funny to think that RAW you would not be able to do that simply because you are in a size 2 hallway
Yeah
Hi hello I went through the whole lcp and wrote down first impressions and feedback based upon them in a word doc on Drive (cause the art is very cool and the ideas are also very cool) -- may I send that here or somewhere else :?

Very fair. Böll is Funny
so you haven't played them yet?
No chance to, not for a lack of want necessarily--though I haven't gone looking for games in here yet either, found a different server for it :3
because some of these will become obvious once in actual play
But yes, these are armchair dev observations 😔
Which ones, if I can ask :?
Phasma, its a controller, not a striker, being able to just grab someone (and potentially multiple) and keep them intangible is an end in and by of itself. Ghostwalk allowing it to walk through terrain and people is vital for it being able to move around as a size 3 without instantly snagging on terrain. Chilling Presence combined with its giant footprint means if aimed correctly it can go through an enemy team, slowing the frontliner before depositing itself around the back, or if with core, slowing multiple enemies
the way to actually free the target of its grapple (aside from the target itself doing the hull check) is for other mech to run up and join the grapple. which Chilling Presence makes it harder to do, ontop of the frame own mobility
grapple also turns off Boost so Ghostwalk gives it a pseudo boost back to do its kidnapping stuff
Morgan gameplan is also pretty clear once you start running it, it does a whole host of aoe damage and wants to set up so that it can hit both an enemy and its own K-Eg with an aoe, or hit deployables/terrain with the aoe too for value
reliable 3 combined with ransack is reliable 6 against non character, its going to start removing terrains real quick as well as blowing whatever deployables is in the way. Having reliable on aoe weapon is also just a great time in general
all of its in license deployable also greatly benefit from Corsair Claw being able to just throw them at people
run out of charge for powder monkey? its still a bomb, throw them at people
Mordred synnergize with the Arthur's Brace system. Its a frame that force people to hit it to function
AEA and Ultracharger are also just the "good stuff"
stacking brace system let you hit wth a heavy, ovecharge hit with a heavy, a mort hit with a heavy (brace this one which let you do reactive weave + full chassis shenaningan)
i don't think it needs to. It functions well with Arthur license with the two ll1 "good stuff" items that both benefit melee weapon greatly and its "I skirmish with a heavy multiple times" gameplan and the brace system at ll2, and get better with some drips like Scanner Swarm or Reactive Weave at other ll1
(Also, thank you for going through all of that -- hope it had something useful or was at least nice ^v^)
core spike is actually contentious for being able to hand out stun EONT almost too freely.
its closest comparison, EMP Pulse, takes 1 and a half turn (quick action to use, full turn stun afterward) and Stun yourself to stun characters adjacent to it which is usually like 1 - 2 people unless you spend even more action to set up to pull people adjacent to you
look beyond just the action dennial aspect of stun, too, Stun makes you have 6 evasion, no reactions, auto fail hull and agi save and check, its a great set up tool on top of its action eating
you'll see i sprinkle in a lot of Stun until start of its next turn in the Duilius for this, it doesn't eat actions at all but it does make the enemy a sitting duck
Oooooh
I used something similar in my own homebrewed system--and fell for the trap of reading too quick and skipping it saying start and not end
And i tend to add a piece of “good stuff” in license without any obvious synergy with the frame but just works in the general field of gameplay
Like the Fusion Rifle in Kobold or the Displacer in Napoleon or Impact Lance in Vlad
Sometime you can just add a piece of gear in a license to have a good piece of gear without trying a combo set up, it adds variety and gives other frames something to dip for
True! -- only up to 5-6 licenses myself, so all those bits of gear are synergistic while I can also see them being useful elsewhere, but the higher the number goes, the harder I imagine it gets to keep that going
Though the principle is also in line with 1st party content, so that's nice :3
Let's see..
I have discovered I have been quoted on Tumblr by Terk. I only discovered this because it appeared in the doc.
Harrison Armory unveils shotgun barbarossa as the next answer
🤔 🤔 might work, size 3 means any threat bubble gets super big 🤔 🤔
That's just a Fomorian Tortuga innit
Also, wow, a lot of people are going over little ol me's thoughts
Something something mortifying ordeal of being known all of a sudden
I'm imagining a bigger daisy cutter on the shotgun barbarossa. Like they just sneeze and all that area is dusted
Oh that sounds like an awesome frame for the heavy machine gun
I’m not sure I believe this, because you are trading a full turn of yours for a full turn of your enemies. Most of the time you are facing more activations than your side has, so a 1-1 action economy trade actually is bad for the players. Additionally, it just doesn’t work against ultras, who are the people you might actually want to trade a turn to stun. Emp has use because it has a chance to get more action economy out of the enemy than your side has spend
I will say, the jam on the fail save is greatly appreciated.
the evasion decrease on stun is really good, but something with multiple activations (i.e. a non-ultra boss you'd actually want to use core spike on) is more likely to be able to clear it before your team can take advantage of it.
Its power is also its on-demand-ness no if not but ness. Aside from Minocore all other sources of stun are save and nothing on failure, and Stormbringer 3 and Brawler 3 both takes 3 business day to charge up, emp pulse we have talked abt, smite damage self and is gated behind both a ta and a save or nothing, cat ham is loading and crit and save or nothing
That is true, it is the easiest way to stun something
The spike is very point and click no set up “one way or another this enemy next turn will do basically nothing”
Toke me a minute to figure out what "cat ham" was referring to
Ham made from cat
Or ham made by cats
I was about to question why we don't have a specific word in English for cuts of cat but then I realized the answer is fairly evident
But yeah, core spike does seem a bit strong, was coincidentally looking at the gorshkov
Consumers will put a rifle and sword on it
There is no winning
Next they will find a way to make a hacker barbarossa
I think they call that a size 3 Tort
This rail gun shots hacks
Hacker barb is Dagon
I'm genuinely curious to see a dedicated Size 3 CQB frame
like I genuinely wonder how that works
[I also just adore Size 3 because it makes funny happen but that's me]
Fomorian Tortuga, yeah?
Iconoclast Yermak is kinda that
I want to see something that isn't tortuga, thanks
also yeah but what if it was another manufacturer that did it
A Barbarossa for every occasion. I want to see it as a drone platform next
Teleporting controller Barbarossa
flying barbarossa
That's kinda Frundsberg
No that's melee barb
That drops on enemies from far above
I know HA doesn't know this but jumping good isn't flying
The GMS flight system gives a bunch of heat, that makes it perfect for a HA mech
I know there's a Zhengified Barb in the form of the Hannibal from Hardvac Blues
I've been trying to wrap my head around it but- how is one supposed to use the chaingun? well on something that isn't the Kishka or Tortuga-
Threat 5 big but- with inaccurate and no reliable
I dunno what I'm not seeing that's gonna make this thing click
Personally I autostabbed that thing.
fair
I don't know why I'm like this (I am seeing how much movement I can accomplish in a single turn)
And somehow the brudenell is the centerpiece of another of my wildly impractical builds
the kerbal space programe
brudenell is fucking wacky on thee raw numbers you can push it to
20 movement or knockback is no joke
A coffin we have attached approximately 37 jet engines to has the drawbacks yes, but also the benefits of such a thing
i'm a bigger fan of Togo
being a walking blender is very fun
I got one that has duilus' caestus and chainblade in the aux/aux...that is all about chain proning the same enemy
if you've ever seen spiked chain trip build fighters in 3.5e that's my togo
I did combine the Brundenell and the Nelson to make a Skirmish that is 80% movement by volume. Lockbreaker, Lunge, Rocket Attachment is no joke.
The other 20% is a Fusion Pike
hey this was probably answered before but should the damage values of the Zweihander's "Split" and "Cleave" be swapped?
I don't know why the thing that does less damage gets Inaccurate and Ordnance.
because it hits every enemy next to you
expanded - it hits every enemy within threat 2 of a size 3 mech
Even more, this is not a burst so subjected to threat increase :)
Ah, gotcha.
I’m used to “Cleave” being parlance for the big, single target attack.
It's like Cleave from D&D.
Hey, has anyone made an LCP for the Asp?
Hold on wait a minute I can't even find the Asp
Oh no that's not in my document
Found it
I don't think I ever saw someone make an LCP for this
In thrust we trust
When I said it to my friend, he said "never say that again"
angry Harrison Armory noises
decided to print out the various frames added here

OOOOO
Just from my language knowledge, is that called the Deathsinger?
Answer: No, his name is Thundershield.
Wait WHAT
Apparently, they had a history of fighty behaviours and had a number of (decently credible) plagiarism accusations 😬
accusations that were like, actually confirmed - terk was not banned because people accused him, terk was banned because he actually did in fact plagiarize, and the mods were able to confirm that
the ban log just says "credible" but it was elaborated on elsewhere
Mhm, saw that afterwards >.>
Wait, what? Where?
#lancer-general in backscroll, mentioned in #homebrew-design as well. just scroll up/ctrl-f around
to be clear - my intent is not "let's drag out & name & shame", i just feel strongly about plagiarism not being ok - and also to clarify this wasn't just "well he probably did it, 80% confidence"
Oh goodness, that's... a shame.
I only have to say that I'm more concerned about the plagarism and the stuff that was ripped off getting credit, but I know how sensitive matters like that can be
Just blows to hear
That sucks
(less suck that he got banned, more that he plagiarized)
Dam
I was raising my eyebrow as to how similar this was
But I was like "Surely, he didn't, right? He probably had permission, right?"
But nope
In fairness these ARE decently different
Those two seem significantly different to me
Right, but the wording an general mechanics are like, pretty much word for word there, "1/round, you may use this system to swap one of your equipped ______ ranged weapons to any one of the following special ammunition types. This effect persists until the end of the scene, until you spend a quick action to swap that weapon to a different ammunition type, or you revert a weapon to its normal state as a protocol. Only one special ammunition type can be used on a weapon at a time."
Like, this would be the point where I would definitely hit up Kai and ask "hey, can I use a bit of these mechanics" And even then I'd at least shake up the wording
So just a heads up for people here: We won't be removing this channel or locking it. We're not about to pretend this didn't exist just because Terk got caught plagiarizing and who knows, it may end up a way for those who were plagiarized, if they feel comfortable with it, to discuss their design intent behind the stuff they did that people have shown a love of.
That’s just similar rule wording
Genuinely if this is suspicious then a lot of lancer homebrew is
I guess I'm just a lot more cautious in terms of plagiarism
Like, lifting someone else's wording pretty much 1-to-1 is something I would never do
I’d rather you didn’t speculate on these things because it muddies the water on what plagiarism is
Stuff like that is not why we banned terk
And I guess I don't do enough homebrew to know the full culture of wher ethe line is drawn
I mean, it's word for word, but I understand your point
Rules tend to be worded similarly because it makes them easier to parse.
I guess I just have a different standard for that stuff
Like, if I saw a system from a different homebrew who's base mechanics I liked, I'd at least change up the base wording
And, if it was particularly specific in the mechanic, directly ask the creator if I can borrow a bit
In terms of fan content ethics, not a legal definition of plagiarism, mechanical similarities is where it matters I think, and the actual mechanics in this case are pretty different
In a game as specific as lancer is when it comes to rule text
#lancer-general message
This is an example of the bad stuff
I suppose that's fair
I don't have much experience actually doing homebrew so I don't know much about where the line is drawn
That's my bad
There aren't a ton of ways to phrase "this weapon does half damage but gets a rider effect"
Like, if the effects were the same, yeah, sure, classic example, but we'd say that it was at most probably taking inspiration.
But all three of the actual effects are just, like, different.
I mean my thing with it is that's pretty much copied word for word
"Special ammunition types" and "revert a weapon to its normal state" and all
Like I get taking inspiration, but copying half of another homebrew's mechanics word for word is, in my opinion, at least grounds for asking the original creator
(If you cannot tell from my insistance, I do not believe, from what I know of him now, that Terk bothered to hit up Kai and ask, but I'm happy to be proven wrong)
Ok, I think I see where I went wrong here
I am not saying "This system was copied 1 to 1 and it should have never been made!" what I'm trying to say is "This system's core mechanics take heavy inspiration (and word-for-word formatting) from another person's homebrew system to the point where they should've asked the person in question for permission, and if they didn't, I would count it as dick move at minimum"
If he really didn't want to ask for permission, he could've at least shaken up the wording
Hmmm, I think I realize now my obsession with the exact verbatim wording might come from my academic background and the frankly absurd number of research papers I've had to write over the years
There are two wolves inside of you:
- goes like "heehoo giant mech"
- goes like "errrrmmm akshually"
Aw man :/
...you know the basic mechanic originates from a core book talent, right?
Walking Armory
Its also like.
Rules have to be worded in a certain way to not be fucky
Of ammo switching? Sure
But 3 SP, unlimited, Quick action to shift, Protocol to revert, one-to-one wording
But you are also seemingly just actively scanning for instances of plagiarism now
which introduces some bias
I didn't actually, I spotted this like a few days ago, before this fiasco went down
Saw it and went "This is definitely just MASS Pack from Suldan but with different bullets"
Like yes I understand that the ammo types are different, but the other half of the mechanic is pretty much verbatim
I don't know why so many people are insistent in saying that this is a weird coincidence, no, this is verbatim, word-for-word, three words changed for balance but otherwise unchanged
Again, I'm not saying that this is a carbon copy of the original, I'm saying that if you're going to use someone else's wording in your stuff to the letter, then you better have asked for permission at least
Mechanically, sure, it's different, but I have also had someone plagiarize a format literally word-for-word outside of the context of "I just wanted to make sure I had the proper terms and definitions in there" and it does feel real bad.
THAT'S WHAT I'M SAYING
like, I am not mad libs, please insert your own stylistics
"1/round, choose a _______ weapon: that weapon gains the effects of one ammo type listed below until the end of the scene, until you use this system on that weapon again, or until you end the effect as a protocol" is a simple rewording
Much shorter and more understandable
And doesn't require you to copy and paste someone else's work
I need more people to rewatch the Hbomberguy video
I need more people to understand that plagiarism isn't just copy-pasting
I don't mean just here and I don't mean this to be sneer to people just here I've had this conversation with a few people in the past few days
Oh I get that, but it sure is part of it
Oh I mean more so like, that if you copy paste something and change if you words, it's plagiarism— Just because you changed if you words or moved a few things around doesn't mean you didnt plagiarize anymore
Sorry if I didn't make it clear with my tone, I do agree with you
so like, do we know what wasn't plagiarized and came out of Terk's own dome? Cuz there are quite a few frames in there that I enjoy and it'd be a shame to toss the whole thing out, even if I probably will have to on principle of "don't fuckin plagiarize."
I don't believe we do
damn
Not like he posted his sources
There's truly no way to do so
Thats the issue with plagerizing
Even if you just do it. Twice. Who knows if you haven't done it 30 times
Yeah, we'll never know for sure
Even if multiple creators go "hey I made that!" there's always going to be chance that other creators who got plagiarized won't see it
Joining just to see how/if the plagiarism will be addressed
That's how it usually goes, yeah
Right now I'm trying to find out what the aforementioned plagiarism actually is
Because we haven't been told, other than someone apparently claiming they wrote the mechanics for the dagon
I'll handle it. Just don't pass judgement 'till I figure this out, please.
This is a message link to the Dagon stuff
that's the one i saw last night, yeah. i was under the impression the accusation there was based on the names of stuff, but i found the reddit thread and all the aforementioned names come from terk's original post, so... idk i'm obviously not in any position to like, relitigate it
Nods
I'm in contact with the mods and just got sent that
I'll speak with him, see what's up
In the meantime, I will be taking custodianship of this channel. I would suggest directing things to terk's server, where relevant, though
Hey, so, I'm gonna pop in as a mod and note - when we've banned someone, especially for a reason like this, we're essentially also saying we're not going to be platforming their stuff
Ahhh, very very fair
But yeah. The google doc being used as evidence here was made in response to terk's original mechanic outline on reddit
And thus, terk's mechanic outline predates the fanmade doc
I will also note that terk's mechanic outline already contained the names for the traits and such
nothing seems to actually carry between that person's mockup and terk's final version except for the stuff that was already in terk's outline and like, using main+flex mount and one or two names of incidental things getting shuffled around. seeing as that's the only thing of substance that's been presented re: the plagiarism it all seems pretty thin
yeah, idk. "thin" is how i'd describe it too
To be clear - this is a product of us receiving a sizable number of such plagiarism accusations, all following a similar format
I will note that Terk posted a great many of his mechanical outlines on reddit, before making the docs
It would be worth seeing how many are related in this same way
if they're all following a similar format to an accusation that is at best a stretch, that doesn't really inspire confidence
I really don't think something like this needs to be publicized. The mods didn't put any of the accusations out there, nor do i think its fair for you to.
I'm speaking with the mods about it at the moment, in private
Let's keep it off the thread for now, aye
yeah completely fair
