When the context is related to an astral ring valk with outburst, i feel there's room to drop it just to get some kind of other effect there.

So basically you just do it as soon as you can since it doesn't require much

Typically you’d want about 30k to be confident getting a 4/4 valk or 40k to be sure

But if your pity is lower that gets reduced

getting both together is very important. If you cannot plan to guarantee before it goes away, then don't bother and continue saving up.

There's no 50/50 in this game either so this planning is more realistic and consistent than other hoyo games. Don't rely on early luck in this game. Soft pity is relatively later too (at around 80 rolls for the valk banner supposedly)

Keep in mind every valk can be used as either a dps or a support now. A signature weapon provides 30-40% personal damage. So not having it means you're not going to be able to benefit from the dps scenarios with that valk

some valks also have very important utility on their weapons that affects specific scenarios, or even general playing in either of their dps or support roles.

i know last time this abyss was around, my timings towards the end were all off because i didn't have the gacha op for ARI timings

so what ended up being fast for me was to wait at the last few waves (12 waves left) for my buffs to expire, then kill the last 8 to refresh to full and go into the last 4 at full power

but waiting was still a major time loss if you don't need to resort to it

but i wouldn't go out of your way to do this

this happens naturally as you play long enough and keep up with newer releases

keep in mind newer releases is what gets emphasized more in abyss which is where major crystal income is

and f2p/light spending crystals may not be able to afford every new release as is

durandal being a rerun makes it difficult to consider at that point (i already said this earlier but maybe it makes more sense now)

if you still want to consider her, i wouldn't say a hard no but you're going to be aware of the opportunity cost. You're essentially giving up a new release that is more relevant and will last longer for something lesser in value for the same crystals you're spending

anyway sorry i digress but this is important so it bears emphasizing

Going back to RS, the imaginary typing does have specific gimmicks. Do you know how imaginary enemies work? Have you observed their shell and core hp phases?

durandal is capable of attacking the core directly even when the shell is still up, making her more suitable in specific img weathers or img enemy scenarios

But if you really want to hone on durandal, there will be scenarios where she is absolutely best in. It's just being an older release/rerun, such cases won't be frequent as before

she can operate as a non-astral ring (part 1 teams) physical support

with shield break utility (since she replaces TA in those teams)

Be mindful that as time goes on, ranks for a valk becomes more and more available as QT said. Utlimately they can even become farmable (WT shop is full of valks that used to be gacha only)

Ranks aren't similar across valks either. Some valks have very notable ranks, while other times they may be very lackluster in effects. For dps role though, you still at least get raw atk stats from rank ups.

you can see them set up coralie and RS effects in the initial minigame state > RS applies stun when boss actually appears > PAWS dps until phase 1 is done (assuming buff uptimes don't run out)

then in the intermission before p2 actually starts, they eventually repeat the cycle

if you're lacking in damage and don't finish a boss phase in time before your support effects run out then you can simply rotate again. Keep in mind these are multipliers at work so your damage really nose dives when things run out

it's really not that different from Vita dps in that sense

but obviously there's more nuances goin on such as sp restoration to constantly ult, and ending outburst early that vita does not have

anyway i think i'm done talking about RS for now so i'll attempt to summarize here

RS

• LoA dps with physical, img properties (nowadays niche in top dps uses)
• Tags (not a top option for any of these)
  • Shadow star
  • H.Shift (was one of the better ones early on but this is no longer the case now)
  • Symbiosis
• Stun utility (only really emphasized against flying fish boss iirc)
  • ||upcoming new valk has this too. The only way RS stands out is if you need stun with a WoD team which the new valk cannot support but such cases don't exist for now||
• phys support with shield break for non astral ring (completely obsoleted by now)

oh she's used pretty often in Memorial Arena top scores but that doesn't help your crystal income

the longer answer is, what's good or bad depends specifically on the ongoing abyss

abyss cycles across many scenarios frequently and again any new release will eventually see some cycle that favors them over time, gradually declining in frequency until they fall out of the meta completely

the current cycle does emphasize FWS dps who is LoA so h.shift is relevant there

but also i wouldn't recommend focusing specifically on h.shift supports. You'll get h.shift stuff naturally as you pick up new releases

to get more of what you may be asking about, i wouldn't be as focused on H.Shift since LoA isn't as new anymore. While they can still release older ring types (e.g. rita for WoD), we more expect stuff of the latest ring type which is GoI

Building pity is a really bad idea. It’s better to save those juicy crystals for what you are actually planning to get.

There are many reasons to not build pity. It's not worth it in 99% of situations.
Please read them and reconsider whether you actually need to build pity:

• Some banners do not carry pity into others, Please confirm it carries over before even considering building pity.
• There are events with added rewards for rolling during their durations. Any pity built beforehand will not count towards them!
• Building pity will risk getting "lucky" with the Valkyrie/weapon early. This resets your pity. A dupe or an incomplete Valkyrie will not be greatly beneficial!
• If opting to build pity on a weapon supply, it's likely to miss out on later newer stigmas and end up overspending rolls or crafting materials to get them.
