Building Pity

Captain, please stop now!
Building pity is a really bad idea. It’s better to save those juicy crystals for what you are actually planning to get.

There are many reasons to not build pity. It's not worth it in 99% of situations.
Please read them and reconsider whether you actually need to build pity:

• Some banners do not carry pity into others, Please confirm it carries over before even considering building pity.
• There are events with added rewards for rolling during their durations. Any pity built beforehand will not count towards them!
• Building pity will risk getting "lucky" with the Valkyrie/weapon early. This resets your pity. A dupe or an incomplete Valkyrie will not be greatly beneficial!
• If opting to build pity on a weapon supply, it's likely to miss out on later newer stigmas and end up overspending rolls or crafting materials to get them.

tbh discard everything about genshin or HSR when thinking about HI3

hi3 is much older than newer hoyogames by several years. It has some similarities but overall is drastically different

and oftentimes newer players trying to make conclusions based on newer games run into costly mistakes

the main advice i'll urge for you when considering rolls is try not to wind up with a new release valk without her weapon or vice versa.

At that point it would've better for you to skip so you can ensure the next new valk in full

not really an issue here with hohe assuming you have her already but i already listed her shortcomings earlier above

as for any older valks that you don't have the weapon of (likely from carnival), i rather you cut losses and skip their weapons to better focus on newer releases. You can still use them as supports possibly.

Do you understand how abyss works? Good scores are not always the same across them. Some cycles we will have a short fight while others we may have a long fight.

Additionally there isn't a flat score to aim for per fight either. Trophy promotion, retention, demotions are entirely based on others in your bracket. It's very possible to get a good score that normally would be safe but still demote and lose trophies anyway because you got unlucky in a bracket full of high scorers.

anyway the last thing i want to say is to look up references and get an idea of what an actual good score is like

and yeah keep in mind each mob stage is worth 6k points

then the rightmost boss stage is worth

• 3k for clearing
• 0-1000 more depending on how much time is left when you defeat the boss

so a score of 15722 might mean the person has cleared

• mob stage 1 (6k)
• mob stage 2 (6k)
• boss stage with 722 remaining (3k + 722)
• 0 for bottom side stage

of course this may not always be true. Someone who is being crafty may fake a number with a 700 boss clear, then get 22 more points on the side stage

some people may get a couple points on the side stage not to make a realistic score, but rather just to make their scores not very deducible

so a score of 16543 wouldn't tell you very much any more

it's something to especially consider in high abyss if you're not very confident in your score and don't want people using your score as a goal

you may opt to not hold down the breath attack so it expires sooner since FDD is a support and isn't doing much personal damage

for the most part you can just do her super qte and then swap off to the next valk

the thing about super QTEs is that they're separate from the 16s cd effects you get from regular swapping, and you can't really avoid them (unless you opt to never swap to the valk again)

so alot of times you're kinda just spending your support super QTEs to get them out of the way and get back to your regular QTEs sooner or on time

there's more intricate things i can talk about like how they generally have suspended animations and might stall boss behavior, which isn't desirable if you're waiting on the boss for something (like transitioning across phases)

but let's not get too deep into that for now

if you have their weapons then the super QTEs are still decent damage from the supports though

well even without you prob would want to get an idea of how much damage you're dealing with them anyway

so you don't spend your dps' super QTE overkilling something at the wrong time

If you are a f2p meta player, you should not pull gacha AstralOps - only players who are retaining or trying to retain Nirvana should consider it if they have the funds (unlikely for f2p players).

Reasons:

• Dreamseeker is good enough despite being free.
• Too expensive, especially if they need SS (~20-30k).
  • AstralOps have the same cost as a gacha weapon, therefore pulling one may result in being unable to afford a Valkyrie's weapon down the line (for meta players, this means skipping said Valkyrie entirely).
• The damage and score increase they provide in Redlotus and below is often minimal and not needed to retain.

Generally speaking you're looking to pick up new releases (valk and weapon, no dupes) when you can afford them (40k crystals is the safe amount).

Late game in HI3 generally cycles across many scenarios so you're looking to get good enough valks while covering a wide variety of situations.

For early game it's fine to lightly invest in her as a cheap ice dps. Give her

• Maxing default is fine. Otherwise give her a non upgraded crescent bow from foundry. Do not upgrade it so you can trash it efficiently later.
• Roald 3pc from beginner shop. Otherwise scott 3pc from foundry.
  This alone should be enough to get through early story. If you want more team considerations look at the fhm faq earlier and ask for more.

At a meta level, she needs her second, gacha-only weapon (currently available) to get new astral ring features. However she's not recommended to get. Her dps use cases are dependent on other specific valks and now much more niche (HLE took some matchups away), and her support cases are mostly lackluster. It can be debatable since it's cheap but i can link you further if you want to know more

with 150 imaginons you can also buy one three honkai shard (this is used for weaopn upgrades) in the asterite shop. This is the main use case for AE imaginons

if you salvage (one way of trashing) a foundry craftable, if it's not upgraded then you get back one three honkai shard. equal value basically

if you upgrade it, i don't remember the details but let's just say you won't get as much back

and maxing that foundry craftable isn't going to really push you further significantly to be worth it

keep in mind story eventually give/force you to use trials

so the need for your own valks become less and less if you're a story/event player

the reason why getting good valks of your own is even notable is because abyss gives you alot of crystals

and eventually abyss can become a place where you compete against other players for high scores

but it's a bit paradoxical to be meta > get more crystals > spend those crystals on meta

without considering events, a f2p player can get roughly 2k crystals a week

but half of those crystals are from abyss (at exalted red lotus which is reasonable for meta f2p)

not everything is binary though

you can find a personal balance of meta and casual and settle for some middle in between

but red lotus in abyss is a notable increase compared to lesser tiers which is why it's generally recommended

you can see this in the crystals faq in the second link along with other info

there are other modes where you can compete for high scores (mainly memorial arena) but ranking competitively there isn't as important (you get stuff but no crystals)

it's good that you're doing it by proportions at least rather than raw value (since cost per pull is different already)

but the main thing to keep in mind is there is no 50/50 here

and the release schedule and demand for meta units are different dynamics compared to other games

you can run the math but overall a f2p meta player doesn't necessarily guarantee a new release every patch. It's normal to need to skip now and then

people can give estimates too but tbh i really don't prefer to do that because sometimes these estimates feel inaccurate and i don't see a source. The game has alot of minor ways to gain crystals that adds up too so it's really in your best interest to track them all individually on your own if you care enough

unlike other hoyogames, signature weapons are very important here

• they are roughly 30-40% of the valk's personal damage. Again eventually in abyss you may contest against other players' high scores so this is too much of a drop when being meta (for other hoyo games that are more pve/flat threshold based to clear, giving up on a 135% light cone or weapon is more possible by contrast)
• they also sometimes have important utility

so that's why we encourage planning for valk and weapon together. Preferably early in the patch when you're more developed but for super early on, just getting it before the banner goes away is fine

new releases usually are the first 6 weeks of the patch (e.g. HLE of this patch)

it gets pretty awkward if you impulsively pull and wind up with a valk without her weapon or vice versa

but anyway meta isn't everything. If you're just playing story and just want to see pretty valks on your bridge, weaponless is fine

adding on that the "important utility" also often comes with changing how you play the valk, making a valk without weap generally feel clunky and incomplete

so even without the meta implications, they still often have a decently big impact on gameplay feel and smoothness

the short answer is to craft when you need them (wait until you run into content you need to clear but cannot). Can prob forget about helia here entirely.

Usually open world is reccomended

You don’t strictly need to save any unless you want to be prepared for time capsule (next time capsule is probably a while out)

It’s just that there’s other things you want asterite for like Valkyrie fragments and VBM syncs and such

so if you look at the numbers, the average pull count is about 55, but that isn’t what people really care about. what you're actually asking for is the median — the pull where half of players have already gotten the unit. In this case, the median is around 68 pulls.

the thing is how “soft pity” behaves. soft pity means the point where the per-pull odds begin to rise. in genshin, soft pity starts at around 75 pulls (at this point you are at 25% cumulative odds), and the increase is so strong that within only about five more pulls you already cross 50% cumulative odds. the curve shoots up very quickly because the pity ramp is steep, this means you do really feel it the sudden spike in chances.

in honkai, soft pity technically starts around the same place, but the increase in per-pull odds is much weaker. At 76 pulls you’re only at about 4.7% per pull, and it still takes several pulls just to reach 10% per pull. because the ramp is so shallow, the cumulative probability rises much more slowly, and this just saying, it won't feel like a sudden dramatic increase with honkai instead

so like theres a reason why ppl say its not really noticeable

also im just using genshin rates because thats probably what you're familiar with in terms of soft pity

regardless of how averages are, it's always a possibility to run into bad luck, especially in a long term when giving the game many opportunities to do so

i really recommend that you plan and be ready for worst case scenarios. The game's higher income, longer patches, and cheaper cost per valk+weapon compared to before makes it more reasonable nowadays.

the important thing is that cadets get good rewards and senseis get something
ideally its meant so that you can have someone teach you but you don't even need to talk to the sensei/cadet for the rewards
if you don't have a sensei yet and you're still low level i suggest getting one

If u REALLY DONT HAVE enough xtals to guarantee a debut valk do u just skip?? Cuz its the dilemma im currently in. This is a beginner acc, and i already pulled fdd and hle back to back. The things is, I only have 10k xtals atm and im not sure how much more xtals i can accumulate up until ||rita's banner|| and the duration of it. I still do have a bit of part 1 not cleared (after seele arc chapters) so there's that BUT IDKK do i just wait and see and try to grind for the meantime?

I would generally not recommend getting any of the valk fragments from spending event since they are optainable from War treasury and no one there sees any use in abyss. There should be a pin going over spending event priorities. If you are set on going for valk fragments then look at the war treasury pin for a priority list @vagrant field

Elf fragments is higher priority as long as you are not spending on astral ops but it is a pretty long con as you need to get them in multiple spending events for them to have value as Kiana 3 star is situationally better then Dreamseeker SSS.
