Yeah we'll see if we're able to do more manual retaliation functionality rather than automatic. We didn't have that as an option when we were doing pounces and pins but didn't want that to stop us from having pounces and pins wholesale. So we made it automatic for a few of the animals to test. Which gave us the information we needed but didn't make creating custom retaliation animations across the roster any less of a production time sink. So it just had to be what it was until we had more resources to change it.

Ultimately, the thought being that no matter if you get the drop on a dangerous animal or not, it's still a dangerous animal that can and will defend itself. Even from a disadvantage. So the methodology there is to choose your targets more wisely and understand what tangling with certain species means.

I wish we had more gore from attacks like this, I did just use the actual gore effect for bodies but I think it looks cool and makes you think that the rex had bitten the trike instead of scratching it

Yeah but on that same note, we knew then and still know that having the damage be automatic for specifically something like that isn't fair since the player could literally be AFK and kill you with retaliation damage. If it's spikes or something sure. But bites, claw attacks and kicks, not so much. It's not ideal of course. But as I've said many times, we often have to make some tough decisions along the path to developing new mechanics.

Settling for "good enough" at times knowing we'll need to come back to it later. Which sucks for you guys sometimes but is what we have to do with limited resources, during active production and making mechanics for animals that haven't been seen in video game form before. There is no blueprint for the game we're making for us to follow along with or pull from. So we have to figure out what works, what doesn't and what we can deliver on typically from ground zero. Then we flesh it out as we go and assess what we do and don't want for the game. So yeah, hopefully we'll be able to get some retaliation functionality for more species that is player driven and not automatic. Which naturally will shift the power levels of the animals yet again. Just because you can pounce, pin or lunge an animal, doesn't necessarily mean you should. Some species may put that "act right" on you.

Crashes can be related to various things. If you see the UE Crash Report tool pop up, just select Close and Report and that'll go straight to the devs I believe, which in turn will make it much easier for them to track down these crashes.

Exactly. There are not nearly as many unknowns when it comes to humans. So the types of hurdles we'll run into is how well that can be incorporated into our game that features animals as primary playables. Cause almost none of those other games that feature humans have such a heavy influence on non humanoid playable characters being such a huge part of the gameplay experience. I'm sure some game out there may exist, but I couldn't name it save my life whatever it could be. A game where some playable animal or beast has more gameplay than the humans in an open world setting.

You need to:
Get perfect diet at some point. You need not keep it the entire time, just get it at some point.
Do not run out of diets entirely, that'll give you infertile. This subtracts a point if you get it.
You need to hit Sanctuary while still a juvenile.
You need to hit a bunch of MZs and PZs. These need not be active, so if you can remember them or find them on Vulnona as a guide, they'll still work. Generally if you go across South Plans, up through West Rail, further up through Highlands and into Delta, you'll have enough to hit prime on almost anything.

Getting prime is easier if you are nested in, that basically gives you one 'point' right off the rip.

hey, i dont know what the hell im doing wrong but i cannot get prime elder never, i did the visit sanctuary task, get perfect diet, visit 2 migrations zones and 4 patrol zones, never go infertile or have muscle spasm, and yet i never get prime elder

its not just the zones that contribute to prime, if you did all the tasks in south plains it wouldnt work, you have to keep moving around
