So I am planning to sculpt the Hypo rex bust in 1:8 scale but I need some ideas on paint textures. I plan to make it with an articulated jaw that will open and close. So if anyone can help with paint ideas I'm including a blank that you can do and repost or DM me with your ideas.

Hey, sorry that video is confusing because it was pretty experimental.
Normally I make the lineart, colored under it to block it in, and then merged the two. Then I begin painting over.
In this case I ended up not doing that because I just wasn't feeling the idea and just blocked in simple silhouettes instead

Shouldn't the rules be cleared up even more then? Unless I'm missing something, but the rules don't particularly say that you aren't allowed to add any non-isle creatures to your drawing even if it's a small focus of the entire piece. I'm pretty sure that the screenshot was Flamingo's and the rules do say that you are allowed to trace/paint over screenshots for learning purposes as long as you credit the original. The cheirus was in the foreground and a rather small detail, everything else was completely Isle related.

i suggest using forms and guiding lines to recreate body parts. and work with references , go with messy sketches first, deleted and readd things that could look better here and there, and dont fret, things take time. and its not bad to take your time on things

It usually works on any color, you just gotta figure out how much transparency you need.
For lighter spots you can do the same with yellow.

You can play with the transparency of the layer to change the darkness of the shadows
I usually use a dark purple, then turn the transparency down to about 45-ish%

Not really. The results of either or on making the skull it's self or clipart doesn't matter at all. For example this Pteranodon skull is the whole thing I made too.

I use Microsoft paint and then transfer the skulls I make on to the other platform I use.

I do the same thing with the circle outline and from there color it all, make it polished and boom.

okay ? he used it as a reference for his version of troodon? i do the same shit with my art sometimes when i need a specific pose. and im pretty sure its allowed. as stated again, not everyone can just free draw dinosaurs and YOU nor anyone else know what was going on in his head when he was making the piece. He also still made his remodel without making it a straight copy ( body proportions different, face different, he kept the feathers and made it longer, i approve) and both the isle and jp troodon have unique patterns and spots so i think it's distinct enough for his version ....the statement from me and other's still stands

The only reason that I love to do art is because I am able to do my own thing, and after reading these extremely strict art rules I don’t think I’ll ever post anything here. It’s so bland and unimaginable.

While I completely agree with having another art channel, we did used to and it became very bad very fast. People began posting NSFW imagery and the chat became flooded with it. For whatever reason limiting the chat to just Isle content has mostly deterred trolls of that sort

People don’t really go there to see people’s art, they go there to chat and either ignore the art or get mad at the people for posting it, and rarely praise the art that the person has spent so much time making

This is the official isle discord, and like most games, have a chat specific for fan art of the game. The off topic art chat was around for a long time, but after the intense amount of monitoring it had to go through because people are weird, it was shut down, same thing happened to isle memes.

as far as my experience goes with this kind of engaging set rules is simply user had the freedom to post almost any kind of art. be it related or not, firstly you just take down the ones violating the general server rule against NSFW-content. ppl still posted such stuff and than the staff has to act, cause this server shall be still appropiate to all audiences, wich includes minors. i see many art pieces done by under aged (<18) and they follow the rules, vice versa i've seen "matures" posting stuff totally unrelated or inappropiate art. the cause why the staff is at this point really strict is ppl havent followed the rules in the past. you behave and have many forms of liberty, you dont so you get them stripped

I don’t understand why people are so against tracing. As a new artist I’ve actually been encouraged to do some tracing, to learn shapes and angles and stuff.

Tracing is perfectly fine as a beginner I agree, highly referencing something and trying to copy it is also really good as you start progressing and I highly suggest it

there's a huge stigma, especially on deviant art, that tracing is bad and if you ever traced anything, or even used a reference for that case, you're not a good artist.

Tracing is a really good way to practice muscle memory and really learn how to make certain shapes. References are always great whether you just need to know what something looks like or if you're trying to recreate it as a challenge to see how close you can get to the original. As long as you give credit where credit is due it's fine. I don't recommend tracing someone else's things then posting them and saying "I traced this thing soandso made" because that's still technically theft if you don't have their permission. Also tracing is better for practice rather than using as 'official' artwork.

One should never trace something then go "look what I drew isn't it great?" because that's just straight up lying and stealing someone else's work.

Tracing is fine so long as you have permission from the original artist or photographer to do so, and credit must be given in the coinciding description. Screenshots are a muddy area, it’s more of a moral quandary to post a traced screenshot and try to pass it off as 100% non-referenced content. We ask a simple message such as ‘derived from screenshot’ was used in this instance.

My two cents about spoiler warnings on art is, better to use it than not if you're debating to use one. Some people do have issues with excessive gore. Afaik you're not going to get in trouble if you don't put a spoiler warning on your art
