I have gotten to the point where I am pretty good at changing existing patterns to make something new-but-similarly-shaped, but have yet to delve into fully from-scratch patterns. ;^^

My best advice is study existing commercial plush you like the shape of- it'll help you nail down your style! I have referenced a lot of douglas and old toys r us dogs to develop my style. I go for the perfect mix of semi-realism, very posable, and super cuddly and nice to hold. Another thing is measure measure measure! The ratio of leg length to stomach length or head circumference to body circumference will be somewhat consistent and subconsciously you can start to memorize those ratios. These days I freehand my patterns on fleece and they always happen to fall at exactly an inch or half an inch because I've been doing it for so long.

Heyy, I am glad you do !! To create these I use Mental Canvas on windows and export my pohtoshop layers in here, this wonderful software helps to create depth and "life" in 2D images. I cannot explain all here sadly but there are bunch of wonderful videos out there. Step two is I export my render into DaVinci resolve to edit it like a proper video, add sound, effects etc 💚 Hope this helped a little

game assets, particle system for foliage, textures are just basically game materials for oncrete or grass, using some black/white texture masks or cloud texture for forests to mix grass/mud textures, and thats all 😄

thank you!! and no, i still dont use procreate. the app i used was clip studio, i just adjusted the brushes i already had to get them closer to what i wanted for this.

In total, i used 4 brushes for the hatz glance sheet. the footprint was harder to make and needed some additional adjustments, but im really satisfied with the final result. i just added a sharpening layer specifically for it to create the effect you see now.

they also had specific variations in opacity, size, and so on in some situations, but whatever

@boreal forge Yah, that pose is a bit difficult. What helps me when starting off with anything I'm unfamiliar with is I would make a separate layer & draw over the original image the basic shapes to make sure the body part sizes are accurate proportions at least. Then work on the sketch separately, using the original image as a guide, to make sure things still look close enough to accurate. It's harder using bones, like you have there. I'm not sure what art program you're using though.

I still use reference images for my art as well. I'm experienced with most dinosaurs that I can make my own basic shapes, without using the image as a overlay guide. Like my current piece. The image I used for a reference is a screenshot I found on Redit.

Not 100% sure with the neck since it looks ok to me after I did a little pose lines on it, adding a little bit of muscle lines may help with you the view of the angle if you choose. Putting the leg a bit more back, like I did here, will help make it look like your rex is more balanced & not going to possibly fall over after ripping off a piece of nummy meat. I hope this helps. I even show the sketched basic shapes on the original reference drawing, with color coding in sections so it's easier for you to see, not only to help myself to understand the pose itself, especially since I don't draw full body pieces often, but it may help you too with your piece.

Quetzalcoatlus will always be one of my all time favorite “dinosaurs” because of Dinotopia, and can we appreciate that even tho those books were written back before pterosaurs were considered quadrupeds, they still look pretty good! They’re mostly just missing some wing membrane and size! So glad that Paleontologists outgrew the idea that these big boys were too heavy to actually do powered flight, because every alternative is way cooler!!

In this version the artist (Garcia) draws the skeleton himself but also adds on a later of muscle/fat and then skin to flesh out the dinosaur

the main thing with the orders n lengths was making them distinct from one another. the fella i was working with had some great points with what the pauses could correlate to and such (i.e. the pause representing a question and such)-- it was mostly random but there was reasoning to it XD

Very clever. Reminds me of a simple color based morse code me and some friends used in another game to avoid others knowing what we were talking about. Red, green, yellow, blue each correlated to a diff location, then black, grey, white was a question, or going to, or currently at. Super fun once you get fluent with those codes ngl
