Thought I would point this out as to why I think we are not getting gators...top left arrow point to the name of the state where the map will possibly be,top center arrow points to Mark Twain National Forest which is possibly indicated by the book clue and the other arrow points to the Mississippi River.

Note, however, that the book clue is not actually Tom Saywer, and it's author is not Mark Twain. It's "Tim Sawier" and "written" by Mina something-I-could-not-quite-make-out. Why have a gator clue if there is no reason for it? The old audio clue with wolves on Layton resulted in Yukon Valley and wolves, so why would this be different? And don't forget that gators and crocs have been requested for quite some time. (Not from me; unless you are diving in the water for them, I don't see what the challenge would be.)
Let's consider it from another direction: what broader opportunities would be gained from adding a Louisiana reserve from a design/sales perspective? A lot of boxes would be ticked: gators (often requested), at least part of it swamp/bayou (often requested), more waterfowl (as per Classic, and particularly knowing that waterfowl are being reworked anyhow), whitetails (another map with a GO on it), something different compared to other reserves in terms of the biomes, lots of other animals that can be recycled (bobcats, black bears, cougars [pumas], mallards, turkeys), which saves development time and resources. All of this equates to a product that could potentially sell well as compared to, for example, Africa 2.0 (which of course would be welcome, but not exactly new)
More waterfowl, and water, would of course also drive sales for a potential Retriever DLC down the line

Also,the book is probably different for either copyright reasons or to throw us off...or both those reasons to be frank. It is legit the same sound lol. The only difference is there's MAYBE a slight change in tone by like a few decibals, which can be altered in any audio program or the way it was used in game. Everything points to southeastern US map. You got the gator sound, you got the poster of a US river and you got a book about Tom Sawyer. If that wasn't enough we got the duck rework coming which is a good excuse to add retreivers (pictured on that Tom Sawyer book), we have theHunter classic map of Rougarou Bayou as EW's template and we have countless reusable animals that can fit a US map.

Must and must. The clues no doubt fit together, and I'm not saying it is not Alligators, or a bayou like reserve. Not to annoy you, l but I will continue to cling to stuff, for almost any other narrative that does not include Alligators. Next Tuesday I will, probably, have to give up hope and accept them. I would imagine the alligator, if made, would be one of the more complex game species ingame. Especially if they make them semi-aquatic. I wouldn't be surprised if they alongside some new ducks would be the only new species.

Yea, what @uneven bloom said - they've already stated before that they'll never add fishing, bc that would require an entirely different game engine.
Maybe in a number of years when they finally make a full sequel from the ground up? That would be amazing. I love hunting and fishing wherever I want in Red Dead Redemption 2, but man is it stupidly easy. Takes no skill to track, and no realism to the gun physics

I personally would like it to be nile crocs in Africa because we only have one African map and we have 3 North American maps meaning if they do Florida or the south there will be another white-tail, wild boar, water fowl, alligator (if that what it is) turkey. Me personally I wanna see new animal species not have 4-5 maps with one special animal on each. We have 4 red deer maps. Just my feelings give us a new map with all unique animals you haven't touch the middle east like Pakistan or Kyrgyzstan were goat and argali and sheep hunting is huge or go back to Africa where the animal species are so vast you could make 2 more maps and never repeat a single species. My personal feelings.

Pakistan is not in the Middle East, it's considered South Asia, which I have heard that EW will not be including countries from that Region, (so no India, Pakistan, Nepal, Bangladesh) or Central Asia (the "stan" countries) out of cultural respect. They, jaxybeard, also said they wont begin reworking the waterfowl until next year. Would be silly to release a reserve with focus on waterfowl before the rework starts.

i dont think they will add bobcats too, because there would be 3 "lynxes" in the game and it would be weird if they use the mexican bobcat again, as they probably dont live in mississipi or something.
i also fear that this map will be only water, it would be the ultimate lake simulator (as this is probably the objective in cotw). i always try to avoid lakes when playing because i find it really boring, but if the map is just full of deep water it would be impossible to bow hunt or something. i wish it will be like rougarou bayou, but i fell it will be different

Here's an interesting curve ball if gators were the the new animal: could you shoot them in water? Or, more importantly underwater? Because, IRL, most guns do so terrible in water, that they already are non-lethal from penetrating just 2 feet of water, whereas bows and arrows do excellent in the the water. Would they reflect this in the game?

I think Red Dead Online did it well. Guns couldnt penetrate underwater, but you can still hunt them. More about waiting for them to exit and rest on the banks, although you could pop em in the head while in the water. Would be fun night hunting them with the shining eyes.
