Trot = jog. Between walk tracks, this means the animal is just jogging a bit. Between run tracks, it means the animal is trying to get away from whatever is threatening it

Try looking around bodies of water, chances are you'll either find animals drinking or tracks of animals drinking before, that should give you their schedule of at what times of the day they are there

Most folks consider duck rares to not be as rare as other animals, but I think the melanistic is the rarest of the feather types for them, so that's a pretty good trophy~

expansion is just to hit the target more violently/cause more damage to the hit organ

it doesn't really matter when any hit on a vital organ takes down an animal

so you want penetration to hit the organs

If you are a new player then the penetration and expansion you would expect in reality are not applicable. High expansion values means VERY little penetration. I shot a white tail deer from ~10 yards full broadside with a 44 magnum hollow point and barely made it to the lung, forget about a heart shot. The hard cast bullets with less expansion but more penetration go through the deer and provide a faster kill with much less tracking

When you can’t harvest, have you tried leaving the area and coming back? That usually works

If you are on PC, clicking P a couple of time will sometimes let you harvest. The collect trophy prompt shows up after clicking P twice. That was an old issue, it may have come back. Worth a try though.

Know the zone times for the species you are after, drink is the easiest, there are also maps online people have made that can show you what areas of the map hold specific animals. Then just run to each lake / run the river looking out for the animal, spot them if they are at the zone if you see them fleeing, stop and wait they will come back and when they start drinking again spot to get the zone

@olive meteor feed/sleep zones are hard... if was i was trying that i would probably start by checking near every hunting stand. Those stands are there for a purpose and there is typically a zone drink/sleep/feed by them multiple species can use the zone and at different times. I normally find my need zones by just running the map hunting and spotting the zone or running over the zone and getting it

COTW still seems pretty realistic

If you havent tried it Cryptic i would I got started in COTW 2 years ago and then more recently into classic and classic is really fun, more difficult you can go a half hour not seeing anything, but its more rewarding when you shoot a big animal it really is rare not like in COTW. Plus classic has competitions and fun events that COTW doesnt have.

How should I go about finding need zones ?

what i do
driving the atv getting to outposts/lookouts and finding some zones
using the keen eye perk for an initial zone find (the costs to respec are horrendous)
rest i find while doing quests that ask for X animal finding said animal i manage to get some more zones in the process

knowing drink times and checking lakes
