Do you happen to have any anti-virus programs running that may be blocking the game from saving? BitDefender perhaps? If so, you will need to add an exclusion to the program to allow the game to save. Even Windows Defender has been known to block the game from saving. Windows Controlled folder access has been problematic too. Every water except the North central lakes and the northern coast can have lions. The beautiful thing about lions is the always make noise when they spook/run.... so if you're setting up and trying to figure out which lakes have lions, you can just run around like a madman and you'll hear them. My best lion lake is the dual lakes right next to each other in the SE part of the map... I typically have 6-7 lions drinking at them.

How do need zones work? I found one with a single deer assigned to it. Do I need to just wait in game for more to come so it goes above 1? Can I leave the game and rejoin to "reset" the one assigned to it? Does killing the one at it always get rid of it since a few times it has while other times it has not.

Need zones with only one animal will pretty much stay that way, so once you harvest that animal, the need zone will usually disappear. For the same reason, they're not that valuable to keep around and don't need protected so much

I've found that even if I wipe out a whole herd of say, Ibex, if a new one is spawns it will usually have need zones in similar areas - on the shore of the same lake, as long as HP isn't so high that they can't make one there

Your local save is one folder with a string of numbers. Am afk - but I think it is usually in documents/avalanche/ etc

There are usually two paths there one called COTW and the other the typed out name and I do not recall which leads to your save.

Apex Connect does NOT enable crossplay between different consoles. When you see the cross-platform blurb that they have for it, it refers to being able to play multiplayer with users from different clients. If you're an Xbox/PlayStation user, this means nothing to you. If you're a PC player, this means that you can play multiplayer between Steam players and EGS players.

It's a bit of unfortunate wording that implied a completely different feature. CMs have already apologized for the confusion it caused.

to you have to aim carefully, because you might not have the chance to remedy a bad shot

Imho the .300 is the best rifle for 7-9.

If nothing else it is considerably lighter than the .338 or Grelck, and it is as powerful as any weapon in that class range

I've been using the .45-70 in place of the Grelck. I've liked it a lot. I can usually nail 3 in a herd at a time. You also get the added benefit of the "4" range animals. I take the Clandestine shorty for 1-3 range and the Bearclaw bow with 420 and 600 grade arrows for all around and quieter kills.

Hello, I logged in on my steam account on another device, school computer and played cotw. I had to start over there, but when I played on my regular computer, I had to start over there. I cant access to the saved files on steam cloud. Does anyone know what I should do?

Respawn mechanics are an enigma.

Shoot a male, a male respawns. vice-versa with females. Sometimes, on rare occasion, they will switch locations, or respawn in different herds, but afaik it's all random.

i think they are saying they will check the map for the fresh red deer spawns. Red Deer got a population reset on all four maps that have them with the recent update, so people are gonna leave absolutely no stone unturned

It wouldn't really matter I think, a kill equals a respawn, you don't get better chances after X amount of respawns and since the herds in different reserve are all unique killing an animal in one wont make a new one spawn on another reserve

Hey everyone, I started playing the game last week and I need some help. For some reason like 75% of the need zones I’m finding in Layton are just rabbit. I used to have a lot of moose near balmont and all kind of things but now it’s just jackrabbit. Even when I explore new areas I’m mostly finding just jackrabbit, even in zones that videos or maps say there are no rabbits. Is this normal or is it a bug? Should I try to delete all this zones (more than half of all i have by now)? It is starting to get annoying, so I would appreciate the help.

Yea ever since they gave Layton a "make over" unfortunately it seems rabbits got a bump in their population. But all the other species zones got relocated and they totally redid Layton. Almost all the old YouTube vids are useless as far as where to find what. There maybe some new videos out there showing "current" layton zones. But yes annoyingly rabbits seemed to have taken over Layton. Layton was my fav map but after the remake of it I haven't touched it in so long. Very sad what they did to Layton. Esp the WT.

to speed this process up, you can re-introduce the files in groups of five. if you get a crash-on-launch, test each of the files in the batch individually

once you've found the corrupted file, wipe the current save and re-introduce all the old files except the corrupted one

Respawns typically can happen in anything from 4-6 in game days. Usually I will cull a bunch of different areas of a map so I get my money's worth of respawns and sleep 6 times in a row and then also restart my client just for good measure. I just did it on Cuatro Calinas now

@untold robin you have to have a certain rifle score to use the weapon pack guns this also goes for ammo.. I could use the .270 but not the polymer rounds so I played without the rifle until I could use the polymer rounds

And since your new I would hunt for rabbits, coyote and small deer to get your score up faster, leave the big animals

I am trying to complete the Stone Circle mission on Parque Fernando. I currently can only sight in at 75m or 150m with my rifle. Using a .243 and the 4-8x scope. Trying to hit a target about 420m away. If the rifle is sighted to 150m at the center of the scope, is the next dot down 300m? I am throwing lead like crazy and can't find the sweetspot. I completed 12 of the Circles with a 7mm, Hudzik .50, and a .357 revolver.

That would be ideal, I only have the Hyperion 4-8x42, or the Drilling 5-9x44. Trying to keep ammo costs down by using the free .243 soft-points.

I probably can't even use the .338 rifle yet as I don't have the ammo unlocked, but I have been having fun making those Stone Circle shots. Nothing like instant gratification from a steel target 'ping'! 🙂

I would say go at least with the .270 and polymer rounds

Soft tips only have penetration of 15 while polymer has 30

Way more efficient and less time consuming since you do more damage and animals drop faster/easier

Yeah, I don't hunt with the soft-points. I bought some for the 7mm just to do the Stone Circle, otherwise I will wait to get the polymers. I do use the .50 round balls for class 3 deer though. They've got decent penetration.

Wow, so at 400m the .243 isn't dropping as far as I thought.

Less than halfway from the center to the first lower dot with a .243 sighted at 150m.

at 450m it's just over halfway. So if I try to put the shot halfway between the center and the first lower dot then I should get my 'ping'.

Layton Lakes is my favorite map, I've spent more time there than on all of the other maps combined. I own everything but Rancho del Arroyo and the Bloodhound DLC. Waiting to see if they go on sale for the holidays before I buy them. I have plenty of things to do on the other maps anyway.

I threw a tent down then a tripod down about 200m from the tent. Fast traveled to the tent at the right hour and belly crawled the whole way to the stand. Spooked Mr. Black and got a shot off. Tracked him for a while. I will do something like that again when it comes time.

the .338 is just worse compared to .300
the .338 weight more and is single shot
and from what i saw i still only got a single lung on that bison so the extra pen and expansion the bullet has isnt a big enough of a benefit

the .338 and .300 are equal, none is better/worse than the other, they are fitted for different playstyles. No weapon is better/worse than another. Weapons are personal preference.

Great! Pheasants are a little different in that you want to sneak up only far enough that you don't spook them too early or they will start running away on the ground and those little varmints can cover a lotta yardage that way. Just close enough to get up and run and spook them into the air :) But you seem to have figured them out just fine

you definitely want to get soft feet and other skills which reduce your sound and visibility. If you know an animal is ahead, start crouching or go prone 150-200m from them. Sound is your worst enemy

I would suggest setting up blinds or other cover near drink zones for herd animals, as you can harvest a lot of them in one sitting and gain many points that way. Cuatro ibexes and mouflons are really good for this

Rifle XP helps you unlock rifles, ammo, scopes, etc in the store. It is your overall, general XP which gives you perk and skill points as you level up automatically with leveling

In other words, you can put your perk points in any of the weapon categories, and that has no impact on getting more perk points. Any perk point can be put in any of the 4 categories, so if you want to respec, you can take all your rifle perk points and put them in bows or somesuch

I suggest checking the pins in this channel and look for the post from A-a-ron with a Google Docs link. It is a series of spreadsheets with lots of good information. Look for the map you are hunting on and the animal you want to hunt. Check it's drinking time and check the map in the spreadsheet to find what water that animal might be found out. I suggest learning to hunt on Layton Lakes with the deer bleat caller. Focus on whitetail and blacktail deer. Watch some Flinter videos about beginner tips. If you are playing on Xbox I would be happy to host a multiplayer game and help you out.

Hey! question about need zone times. Let's say there is a drink zone from 17:00-21:30. Does that mean the animals attached to that zone will show up close to 17:00 and be there till 21:30 or does that mean they will show up at any point between those times?

Wondering if they are not there by 17:30 if it would be better to move to a different spot

they should arrive near the start of the drink time, but never start drinking before the start (17:00 in this case.) Generally, they won't arrive at any time in-between unless the animals are very far away and it takes time for them to arrive at said zone.
