Go to revontuli or Layton, place down a tripod (or waterfowl blind, tree stand, etc) and 20 mallard decoys and then use the beacon deluxe duck caller to bring them in. Also I suggest using the 12 gauge cacciatore with the biggest shotgun scope if you’re on console

I do, there's a small lake just northwest of Cheelah hiking village, sneak there midnight to 4am, and you should find several coyotes come to drink at various spots around the lake.

Just be sure to not kill three animals on a drink spot, since that'd put enough hunting pressure to 'burn' that need zone.

Every time you level up you get either a perk or skill point. Disturbed vegetation shows what fur type and animal is without spotting it

I wouldn't live without spring-and-load, the first three skills in rifles to help my sharpshooting... The rest depends if you use bows or not.
With bows, I try to get about 1 point in each bow skill.

Someone's been using a -big- one for a while and wasn't bothered.

Also mol, if you're just starting, don't go hunting bison with the starter weapons. The .243 is a class 2-6 weapon, and best against 2-4.
Then as you earn money/experience, buy better weapons that have better animal classes, then you start on bears/elk/moose etc.

-Use the correct ammo class for the animal size.
-Hit a vital (lungs, heart mostly)
-Hit the animal no more than twice.
-Don't hit the 'trophy' (usually the skull)

In addition, if you hover on the lower numbers (assuming you're on PC) you'll see score multipliers, there's one for quick kill.

I was a little silly... Yeah, assassin nailed it: Expansion causes more bleeding for what it does hit. Penetration goes deeper, much easier to hit both lungs.
Nearly all of us favor high penetration ammo.

You ought to practice walking, binocs out more often... And drop to the ground 15 seconds if you hear a warning cry.

My tactic for angry bison and buffalo is:
1-Don't panic
2-Stand, be ready to run sideways... They rarely come straight head on, they tend to go a little left or right, sidestep in the other direction and maybe use a tree to help force them to charge at a bad angle.
3-Pick a good strong weapon, fire a good shot at their front shoulders/broadside as they charge by, usually I'll hit a lung. (Now I got an Apex rifle, so that kills, if you don't have an Apex, the free Sundberg pistol makes a great self-defense weapon.
(And I usually hit my middle mouse button to remove the scope for such a situation)

Bagged a few hundred on the coast but Layton is bugged.

I'm actually curious why you're having difficulty, they're small sure but a scoped ranger should make it easy to hit them in the chest... Assuming you're not shooting them on the run, which is a no-no.

That’s up to you. They shouldn’t be compared. If you want a versatile weapon with good power, then the 7mm is the one, but if you want a weapon that’s more powerful on the bigger species, then it’s the .300. It also depends a bit on playstyle, if you are a “grinder” then the .300 is the one, since it has a capacity of 4 rounds. I’d say that you can’t go wrong with either of them, so it’s completely up to you.

if you are ok with having a single-shot rifle then the 7mm could be a good choice, it’s more powerful (not by a lot, but it’s noticeable) it has the ability to take class 9 as well, but it only has a one shot. The .300 is a weapon that you’d get the most out of, if you used it alongside the m1. It’s your call, the m1 is good, so it doesn’t need to be replaced, unless you want to.

Tips for night hunting Coyotes? I'm doing the Late Night With the Dogs quest, where I need to bag 2 of them at Leviathan lake, at night.

If you kill 4 without a tripod (or anything that reduces pressure) you’ll delete that zone and make the deer move but other than that don’t kill solo bucks

Not really. If you purge (I’m assuming by purge you mean kill all the animals in the zone) a zone then they’ll most likely come back to that same spot unless the zone got deleted

I've had a few too many animals never show up for their need zones.

Seriously: Their time of arrival will depend how far they are from the zone, a half hour to an hour and change is the usual margin IMHO.

I feel you, coyotes are -really- tricky. You need to be perfectly hidden, your scent has to go in a safe direction (like over a lake) because maybe, just maybe they smelt you a half mile away, didn't say a word and never approached their need zone.
And sometimes they're just so damn sneaky they're at the need zone and you don't see them nor hear them, that happened to me once.
And there was three of them!
