The only thing that changes, I think, is the penetration; otherwise, when it comes to taking down animals, only the caliber matters.

To clarify, while it isn't ethical, you can cull any animal with .22lr truncated rounds. You'll lose a trophy rating but it will absolutely kill them if you dome them.

You can even cull class 9s with it, and at long range.

Depends on engagement range. Polymer is better at most ranges within 200m, since it can double-organ, break through bone and force easy vitals. Expansion rounds really only shine at long range or in situations where the Pen rounds can no longer double-lung; in these situations, Expansion rounds will still be able to single-lung, and the damage they do will reduce an animal's run time by 2-3x their normal run distance with a single-vital hit with Polymer.

The downside is shot angle consideration, Expansion rounds are harder to use efficiently because they more easily glance off of targets facing towards you.

Difficulty is your most simple indicator. Followed by weight estimates (skill unlock) and trophy estimates (skill unlock and most accurate)

Your level 6 red deer is most likely bigger than your level 5. Then you can narrow it down further through the weight ranges and even further by trophy scores. Some like to be different levels in disguise

Like with my boar, I get some 3s that are trophy estimates that top out at 70 while I have 2s that top out at 90

When you take down something, its respawn will be of similar-ish size in most cases. So getting a few good ones means youre likely to keep seeing good ones come in. It's the same reason that herd management works

On mule deer so it’s been several times I’ve gotten the 4s stacked in locations probably about the third time maybe 200-500 harvests it goes down to 2s and level 4s some 3s but when I kill those 3s they stay the same so then I start shooting the high two fours hoping a diamond spawns but it always messes up

And just spawns more 3s and 4s

But haven’t seen one level 5

I’ve seen trophy ratings in scouting be above diamond hit kept those shot lower ones yet 5s still won’t spawn

I guess what I’m asking is there something I’m doing wrong or that spawns are just working against me

There ARE multiple gray wolf subspecies that are quite distinct from generic gray wolves. Iberians are one of them, but I don’t know how many others there are that would be represented in the geographic regions in game
