I took mine pretty far back... I think the key is the animal and the lake have to be visible with the lake unquestionably as the background - not just on a side

Of course you can just buy the original game, it’s great by itself. DLCS are really only if you want new map or new animals. So it’s up to you if you want that but since you are new to the game I personally wouldn’t get the DLCS until you play for a bit.
