You can find them occasionally within the 800m spawn limitations at boar stones, but it's pretty rare, think I've found a 2 star boar close to spawn maybe 3 times

Loxes are probably the tame that people tame the least but they are so useful especially if you play without portals

What I do to breed them is get 2 of them together, build an enclosure around them that keeps the adult in but the babies can fit through the gaps

and the 2 will keep breeding as the babies spread and mature and soon enough you will have an army of them

while I have done so--i appreciate why people feel the desire to put it all in one place--honestly, there's not MUCH benefit IMO to not just putting down a portal where the boar farm is then going there

yeah you shoudl just tame the 2 star where it is, breed it, then if you REALLY feel the need, drag the OFFSPRING

there's multiple benefits to that--one, natural spawns pathfind back to their original spawn left to their own devices

not really, they hit harder b/c 2 star, but still only boars and most build pieces have more than enough health if you're in the area you can repair it well before they break it

moreover they won't attack it UNLESS aggro'd which generally is gonna necessitate you being nearby (you have to be near enough, in any event, to load the area for them to be 'active' and able to attack anything)

commonly, people just dig pits and then push wilds-to-be-tamed into the pit, where they cannot escape and cannot damage anything, and you can just toss food down safely and easily

and then just wait/do other chores in the area so the taming timer ticks down

I usually put my backup creatures on a 2X2 floor tile with a wall around it, then build more 2X2 around it to get a 3X3 tile thing. Keeps the occasional greyling shaman from going aggro

This added range/distance is quite mandatory when dealing with Askswin. They tear down a grausten wall like paper when there's something on the other side 🙂

yeah and the fuckers like shaman (with an AOE) particularly, hit THROUGH wall w/ their poison attacks if they detect your tames (which they of course are hostile too as part of the "player team/faction" when they tame) on the other side the wall

oh that's a pleasant looking design, and it looks like you've done a "one way gate" if i'm seeing correctly, where they can get out up some stairs but not then back in--i was imagining simply pillars of wood spaced in a line just wide enough to allow the smaller babies through but that's much more elaborate and aesthetic

I was mining some copper and it attracted a troll from somewhere and I was genuinely crashing out because he was camping my base and I didn't know what to do. Turns out I didn't know that you can literally dodge in this game and it gives you invincibility frames. So I 1v1'd the troll and me, being the dark souls pro that I am, didn't get hit ONCE. I feel like a god now.

I switch the crouch and sprint key from the default sprint=shift, crouch=ctrl, to sprint=ctrl, and crouch=shift. So to dodge, I just do shift+space, and it works fine.

Has anyone ever come across a situation where stuff in your base just randomly breaks? I've got sets of armor up on stands next to a wall in my base and every so often some of them will just be in piles on the floor.

-# armor stands aren't attacked on sight by enemies so a sneaky attack is immediately unlikely
i've also occasionally had moments where something that had no reason to break just breaks from lack of stability even though it's plenty secure.
i personally can only theorize it's got something to do with something being placed on a chunk border with the thing that's supporting it technically being on the other side of that dividing line, or maybe things load in too slowly and stability checks start happening before it's all there. don't think the latter should be possible in singleplayer though.
either way, i believe the few times i've encountered it (and two of those were reoccurring with the same object), shifting things around a little and/or making sure it's excessively stable seems to have fixed it.

I've been having some sort of major problem with Valheim since late 2024. Basically, my entire computer locks up randomly (and some sort of awful buzzing noise starts to emit from my speakers) and I have to manually cycle the power on my machine to get it back. This ONLY happens with Valheim and no other game. I've tried a bunch of different things to address this issue and nothing works. All enemies except for Volture are resistant, very resistant or immune to fire damage. The reason why the staff of embers is still good is because it creates an explosion causing a ton of blunt damage as well.

Yes, one equipment piece sold by one trader or temporal ways: one requires killing 4th boss and other requires finding other trader that sells mead/potion ingredients.

At that state any of the armor sets work. Although full bear set gives you slight weaknesses to physical damage types but also grants nice buffs for regen, so if you struggle by taking too much damage with the bear set you can change any piece to either bronze or troll so you don't get the weaknesses from bear set bonus.

Highest armor rate without movement speed penalty is gained when equipping level 3 bear chest, loincloth and bronze helmet.

That combination grants you good amount of armor and also having light armor leg piece doesn't give you movement speed penalty.

But bear loincloth is just slightly better with 1 more armor rate than troll leggings at same quality.

There is no wrong or right options for gear really, just go what you feel comfortable with.

I usually go with bear set even at the start of the 4th biome, the set bonuses are just that good IMO.

But people have gone with troll set even before bears and bear set were added into the game.

We just added a third pc in the house, but it is a MAC. No matter what I do it can’t stay connected to a created Valheim world. If we host on the Mac nobody can join. If we host on another computer the Mac can join for about 2 minutes. Then they are disconnected and can’t join anymore.

I’ve tried everything on google and it’s not working. Any ideas here?

Yes cross play is enabled and all on the same internet. The Mac is the only issues with connection.

actually this is not always true. prioritised attacks are not random so if multiple are available the enemy uses the first one in their inventory. This is why morgens always roll right first

No, you have to hit them in the center area until they pop. (For silver) Copper is its own problem.

Copper can pop, but its rare to be able to get the entire node at once.

Pretty sure it has to do with how much "dirt" is within a node. Silver nodes are pure silver.

When you’re sailing around you can see a rough outline of the mountains to see how tall they are

worth going through to her even if you have to run past a draugr village into her protected area, she marks some special dungeons on your map if you interact with her table, the 3 mountains she marks with a howling cavern are usually quite decent

also Silver spawns slightly higher than obsidian, so you have to be a few meters above the height where first obsidian spawns

The grave with your stuff won’t disappear. Something similar happened to me in the Swamps, in a spot with 3 spawners guarded by 1 abomination, a two-star Draugr Elite, and 2 two-star Draugr archers, and I lost count of how many times I died. I had to gear up again and go back, killing them one by one.

You’ll have to make potions to protect yourself from the cold.

I found my first silver deposits, and I’m alternating between the Wishbone and the Strength Belt to carry more silver to a shelter I found and repaired near the shoreline, so I can gather enough to take it by boat back to my base. However, climbing the mountain is draining my resources, especially the frost resistance potions.

Now I’m not sure whether to take a batch of about 60 pieces of silver with me, or keep searching. 🤔

Frost resistance are easy to make to be honest and to speed things up people like to dig the ground all around the vein and break it and then fill a cart with the silver and either run down the mountain with it or just let it fall off the mountain

Ah, this is what I did in the Swamps. I didn’t think of doing the same here, because the terrain is so uneven.

If you find a sheer steep wall, it can be very handy for this, make a S shaped path the width the pickaxe covers all along the steep hill, and any other terrain try to wrap the mountain.

A friend and I raced silver gathering silver. I think by the time he had cleared 3 nodes and transported it to our ship, I was reaching my ideal landing point with the cart, and overtook the silver gathering by the 5th node.

Of course that's situational, but my theory is this is a safe operation on mountains with 12+ silver nodes to clear.

Basically every new biome you go to you have to get the key materials from that biome (usually metals are the real important ones), then kill the boss of the biome. The boss will then drop the item you need to progress in the next biome

Since you've gotten bronze (and I assume built/crafted at least a few things with it) the next step would be to find and kill the black forest boss

Swords have a 3x damage multiplier on secondary for incredibly high damage per hit, and the primary attack doesn't lose damage when attacking multiple targets in one hit. What's best for you depends on your playstyle, but personally I like swords a lot

That depends. Enemy spawns are blocked by workbenches, fires, and other such base structures. If the walls are built within the radius of a workbench, no enemies can spawn within them. If not, you may need to worry about the occasional enemy in your base.

Demolisher is good AoE option and deals blunt.

There's a lot of pierce resistance in the latter biomes, so knives may not be ideal. Didn't stop me from using them until the current end of the game, though. Frostner remains a capable weapon for a long while, mostly from the majority of its damage coming from cold rather than blunt.

Any number of ways, I'm not sure exactly, but the ground could shift and lose stability. But it may not necessarily change in that way in the DN update. But when ashlands came out some people had builds that ended up floating and subsequently falling apart.

Usually it's best not to build in the undeveloped areas do to issues of that kind. And if you explore the DN, the parts you explore won't load new content properly when the update comes.

Make up some tonic of ratatosk from the bog witch, get a spare bow and the best arrows you have. You want to shoot his belly where the little 'eggs' are.

He's weak to pierce on the underside. For the ticks, raise up some earth for a platform to jump on (make it plenty high, at least 4m) You can run around behind the platform to avoid the Gjall's fire and jump on top of it to be safe from the ticks.

IF i have one hand sword and offhand shield. Will the block armor and parry bonus "combine" ? Meaning, sword block + shield block. And sword parry bonus + shield parry bonus?

Or is only the shield taken into consideration

The wind changes direction, it isn't always blowing in the same direction. You could end up having a good time sailing and halfway to your destination have to start paddling because the wind direction changed. Happens to me almost every time i set sail.

Swam or sailed? I would definitely make a portal on the shore. As for ascending a mountain with moder on your ass, try to find anchor points along the slope, recoup stamina, and then only start running when hes about to do ice crystal breath. Find a new anchor point well before you're out of stamina, and repeat.

The other thing you can do is dig under Moder's altar, there's a lip around the edge. Dig just enough to be able to jump down and put a portal there, or dig under one of the big rocks and put a portal deep in the ground where Moder can't get at it.

Hi, I have some Lox with mounts, but only the right-click works to change their facing direction. Whenever I want to attack, the character attacks instead. I checked the key bindings and everything is set to default. I don't know if anyone else has had this problem.

I would not say considerably, but would be good if you have some better weapons or gear when doing them, also heavily depends on your armour etc, I don't recommend root armour for them though if you're new etc.

and some of the attackers might hang around, some others might walk away and despawn

Hi all I'm using the native Linux Client with Steam and am unable to connect to any crossplay servers at all (never get password prompt, get sent back to main menu with "Failed to Connect". Is there any work around for this?

No, we can, just as I understand it, only console users need to select crossplay.

Looks like you need to be given a join code. According to the FAQ I am reading.

This is what it says, maybe it will make more sense to you: When you start a server through the game or by hosting a dedicated server, you’ll be able to see a “Join code” by entering the pause menu. Copy the code by simply clicking on it and send it to your friend! Your friend will then have to head over to the “Join Game” section, press “Add server” and paste the code.

Sounds to me like whomever is hosting the server needs to send you that code.

How do I best prepare for plains? Like I'm feeling comfortable in the swamps, I can defeat abomantions, draugr and skelletons without any issue, but I happened to come across the plains biom when exploring, got hunted down by these goblin creatures and just when I though I'm fine, got finished by a fucking mosquito. What kind of armor, weapons etc do I need for plains. I've got everything out of iron right now

You get access to a piece of gear once you acquire the biome metal, which takes a pick from the swamps metal.
And either the swamps boss drop, or shenanigans to access

Mosquitos are going to be a mass8ve skill issue no matter what, even eith strong armor.
The most important thing for you now isn't actually gear, it's making high level foods to increase your health pool

Sausage from the swamp is an absolute staple because it's easy to mass produce

Also, mountains are hard to find on the coast. And quite prone to being small.
Make sure you find a mountain thst has some of the biome dungeon to discover new things

Wolves and boars are tamable

Boars mainly for easy food, but wolves can fight

But they are glass cannons amd weak into most other mountain enemies, still, good for base defence

Stamina 2x and Health foods

Since mountains can be a hassle to traverse to

Black soup is another solid health option, but less plentiful than sausage

Actually, eye scream, amd wolf skewers would work well with sausage, and it would just take a few kills of basic mobs in the mountain

Also, cooked bear meat fits into no other recipes, so eat it if you've got it

Kill some serpents in the ocean for serpent stew, it's an OP food that will carry you for the next 3 biomes

While yes moder is weak to fire, you'll do more consistent dmg with obsidian

@thorn spire I ran through plains with this stamina potion+eikthyr power and managed to enter the dungeon in mountains and set up some portals, and retrieved my items
