Dont like it either 😄 hence why i use the other two
True.
If I go mage I usually save porridges for the Mistlands feast and use stuffed mushroom and seeker aspic for eitr foods.
If you wonder why I'm asking all this, I just got to the mistlands.
Hoping you have fun, it's personally my favorite biome.
early mistland is torture ><
I have started about ten worlds and the longest I have been in any of them is beating Moder and getting to the plains.
I can relate, tho i have been in the mistlands just for five hours.
Yep. I placed down one fire now there’s not a single troll spawning anymore. And I get to collect even more stranded fish’s than before
How do i unlock a hearth?
With stuff from swamps 🙂
Mh. Kk. Guess that’s later on then. Nothing I missed out on then. Good. Iron is the next step then. Thx
Yep 😄
Let me guess. It’s in the swamps?
🙂↕️
Nope, you have to freeze on the mountains a bit before plains(desert as you call it :D)
Oh. Got it. Thx
Idk how exposure is calculated for a windmill. I assume this is too crowded though?
How do you get metal in ahslands?
Like any metal or the new ashlands metal?
New
You go a bit in land and look in lava lakes or in chests in the ashlands dungeons (not caves)
Ok
Doesn't seem like they'd get a lot of wind that way
right, i'm struggling with how that mechanic works as the only other time it's used is sailing and you really don't have to think about blockages when sailing
Afaik they need enough space in the direction of wherever the wind happens to blow from. Works best to put them on a bit of elevation.
Roof windmills!
wind is more relevant during storms....that's when you really cash in and pump out.
I moved them to where my Barley/Flax/Lox farm is and they're absolutely PUMPING now
Also, i needed stone and found out the super tall pillars in the plains are destructable
SOOOO satisfying
yeah, so fun.
Do you need 2 eggs to reproduce chickens?
or just 1 and it'll lay eggs and those will just hatch
need 2 chickens to breed.
Can Blast furnaces smelt everything? Or only Black Metal and higher?
Thats lame. But understandable
is the porcupine better than frostner? Mathematically it looks like it'd just be outright better, particularly against non-undead
I suppose the slowing effect might be a reason frostner might be better in some cases
better damage in general from the porcupine. As you say, the slow from Frostner balances that some.
I got a question, I am on pc, and I like to use QOL mods. My buddy is getting the game on Xbox. Would I be able to get him in my world playing with me with the mods ?
Hello, those of us who have Valheim on the Xbox platform, can we play Syeam servers?
Folks in #mods-discussion might know the answer to that 😄
Some mods are client sided and those should be fine afaik, but some other arent, and if you ask in that channel then people might have an idea which are which 🙂
If crossplay Is enabled then yep 🙂
It also depends on what you're fighting; the differences in resistances and vulnerabilities can have a significant impact.
Can happen 🙂, ofc if you increased resource drop rate that also helps
Yeah, then you are probs just getting lucky with the eye drops 😄
Are you harvesting at night? Many many more show up at night.
you'll need them for the portals you'll be making a lot of
should I fully upgrade my bronze armor? or should I just go for iron
in most cases you don't need to max out your weapons/armor
You're free to do however, but IMHO I wouldn't waste more bronze for the armor.
they're pricey and the gain is very minimal, whereas you could spend that time better slowly getting the new material
mathematically, you'd be spending a lot of time in the black forest just to gain some extra 6 armor in total, which isn't that much
I'm no veteran of the game, but in my 2 major playthroughs so far I've skipped bronze/iron armor entirely. I made them on my first play but rarely wore them.
even just looking for new food in the next biome outweights the benefits of improving your armor to the max lol
It only makes sense to upgrade your armor if you are struggling more than you’d like to be with your current defence
And mathematically speaking the armor in the first half of the game is a lot more beneficial to upgrade because the less defence you have the more beneficial each point of defence is
Log overhead of troll is 70 blunt damage
lvl 1 all bronze is 24 defence so you receive 46 damage
lvl 4 all bronze is 42 defence so you receive like 33 damage
Is it normal to hike metals from one base to another or should I just build a base in the Black Forest just for metal smelting?
Can you farm onions in the plains?
No idea I’m not that far yet
I got onions in the mountain and planted them at my home in the meadows.
I didn't ask you. What biome are you btw?
I know you didn’t I was being dumb I’m new to the game like 8 hours in I’m just in the Black Forest now I can now 1v1 a bear but I don’t have bronze armor
I always hike the metal to my main base.
I dont 'hike' I take my boat there and back to base with my metal.
Tbf you can get to iron/silver so quickly...
Ok cause my Black Forest actually sucks it’s tiny so I gotta go to an adventure to get it
I can only find tin no copper
Ouch, tough spawn luck.
Also I’m trying to stay away from spoilers and this is 100% contradicting myself but what even is the boss for the Black Forest cause I haven’t found shit in any of them for like a boss summoning alter
||big tree boss. Bring fire arrows.||
Gotcha gotcha
Just keep exploring the stone towers and burial chambers, you’ll find what you need!
And trophies like the neck trophies hold any significance or are they just for show?
Ok the deer one is a summon thing but I was curious about the rest
Some deco, some spawn.
Neck trophies?
Idk that’s what they’re called in my game
It’s worth it to hold on to them, for various reasons
The little frog guys
When you play any game, it's worth it to be a hoarder.
I’m a hoarder in every game I play
Pov that one guy with everything in his pocket.
Yeah sometimes it’s hard in this game cause the inventory is so small
Valheim plus ftw.
And also when I eventually kill another boss will I be able to use both of there powers like I assume I can only use one at a time or can I use both at a time or will I have to go back to the alter and switch every time or something?
Gotta go back and choose one.
Darn ok thank you I gotta go love yall have a good day
I usually use the first boss for a good portion of the game though.
Yep, everything except mistalnds stuff grows in plains pretty much 🙂
do Monument of Torment respawn after getting destroyed?
No, they’re gone permanently.
The only new ones can appear from certain raid 🙂
just got to ashland 2 days ago and I feel everything respawns so fast xd
Hehe, it is a true battlefield 😄
Once you get the gem weapons it becomes a lot more manageable, my first time sieging the Ashland’s I found it helped a lot that I beelined for all the monuments I saw to take them out, and mostly staying by the coastline as the tougher enemies spawn more inland atleast in my experience
It’s best to avoid the forested areas when you first get there too, the trees constantly breaking make a lot of noise and attract a lot of enemies
That is no longer the case 🙂 it did alert the enemies in early ptb but it was fixed
Hi! I'd like to move the local Valheim server located on my friend's PC to my computer. What files do I need to recover, how many are there, and what is the access path? And one last question: will I have to delete the server files on my friend's computer? And if I don't delete them, will there be two of us who can connect whenever we want?
Thanks
In multiplayer different forsaken powers affect all players if they are close enough to the caster. The effect of three or more simultaneous forsaken powers can be pretty op.
Hi guys, how does my friend make me admin on his server? Is there a command in-game, or is there a mod I need to download?
Huh?
ty
He doesn’t have line nr 8. not with the text I do
If you're trying to be admin for using devcommands, won't work.
Yes but... how this is Valheim?
Oh Shiad. Sry. Damn 😅
😂
I started valhaim but wanted to ask that one question. Guess I clicked on the wrong server😂
You will need the .db and .fwl files, as for the other stuff idk, never did something like this myself. 🙂
Any tips and tricks to get a good start in the mistlands?
I’m new to the game brother get a pokemon that can use defog maybe that’ll help with the mist
Dont rush and listen carefully 🙂 also Eikthyr power can help
Sorry I didn't mean to send it to you. Sorry😔
You’re fine lol
Ok. Thanks!
Any ideas on how i could close this roof?
Rn im trying to solve it with smt like this but surely theres a better version?
I mean. It works but doesnt look that good
Are you opposed to a center pillar?
A center pillar? Like this?A log pole in the middle or smt?
Any object, just something giving support from the middle so the roof peices can meet there
You mean like on the second level of supporting beams a new pillar wich goes up?
It will work best if it also extends out of the structure all the way to the ground, but essentially yes.
So like placing down a beam kinda like this and continue with it all the way down? To the first floor?
Yes, you can find exact center with a half beam, then snap the center beam downwards to the bottom of the second floor and see if that is enough to hold the roof. If not, then try extending it further to the ground.
KK. Ill try. Thx
Also is there a better version to make the fire keep burning and allowing me to sleep without stopping me from walking over it?
This works but really isnt that pretty
Create a chimney structure attached to the side of the house, with a small raised patch of ground so the fire meets the height of the main floor.
It can be a nice fireplace that way 🙂
Oooooh. I can build it on rocks! Damn why didnt i think of that! I can just raise the ground to my need. Thx. Now i can finnally finish this building properly
Haha not to worry there's so many elements to building!
Will the dvergr get mad if I dismantle there building even if theres no ward?
Definetly. I can build so complex but could make it all so much simpler. And i saw theres stone pieces that would look quite awesome
Looks really good so far!
Really? Thx
You where right. It really does look good
I mean i cant decline it does look kinda good. And definetly not overkill complexity
You can always utilize the roof pieces that are angled for the middle part if you want it to resist water damage, the 'X' parts in the middle of your roof will take water damage.
It cant stay. It keeps breaking.
All thats left rn is what hasnt yet broken
allright thanks 😉
Ah, and the pillar is connected to the ground?
Not all the way
Try that, it should do the trick.
KK. One second
Now i cant place these pieces anymore. Idk yet why
You need better stability.
You need more support 🙂 try to put core wood beams poles in the corners from ground all the way up
Idk where i lost. I was able to place before
Read what Asatru replied.
Like a rectangle?
So no corewood. Got it. Imma try
Is there a way I can make wood not rot when it’s outside
Having roof over it pretty much, nothing else
O ok
Yes core wood 😄 just not beams, i meant 4m core wood poles which are vertical
I have literally no free connection point anywhere left. And then it started raining. So i tried the new fire trick i learned.
Try to put it inside corners of the building 🤔
Yes. I just did it like this for now so we can sleep.
Smt like this right?
I meant to increase support, you can use corewood poles in corners of your building to build higher
Ah. Reinforced corners. kk. Ill do that too rq
I have a server related question, would it be ok if I post a fan art that mixes a few popular gaming IPs?
Currently the only flying mounts available are deathsquitos, drakes, gjalls (might have forgotten some) and also the word "mount" was used in jest because there is no saddle, just gotta hope to hold on and be above 100HP to not die when you inevitably fall off 🙂 Its only for extremely skilled players and you can not tell them where to go, can be fun though haha.
yo, i cant find where my PC saved my current valheim world (multiplayer). wheres it at? searched worlds and worlds_local
Manage Saves "Move to local" might be the cause not sure exactly how it works otherwise if they are cloud saves you might not see them?
i checked that. it is local
then I'm not sure why its not there should be in there afaik
you're really gonna want to at least use core wood beams for structural support
Yah, on my 2nd play I didn't take either leather, troll, or root all the way to 4 - I think Wolf set was my first to get that treatment.
Do all player base items suppress spawning in a cylinder shape now, or just the workbenches because their building range got changed?
Like for pillars all over the place inside the house?
Does anyone have any multiplayer servers?? None of my mates have this game 🙏
Change mates hmu 😔
Look no further than #1024264966712340510 😄
If I build a balista on a tower, can it shoot downwards at approaching enemies?
i think you should just watch a youtube on building stability, there's too much i think you haven't learned to type out here
If you say so. Any recommendations?
not really, or maybe just experiment more and pay attention to when things change colors. frame what you're going to build with core wood beams or whatever before adding wall and roof. corewood will support taller longer structures, iron beams mroe than core, etc
Kk. But I don’t have iron yet. What does it mean if pieces start to slowly change color more and more towards red? From green to red in 1min?
that means you're running out of support. When you add an item it'll start green always.
I see. Thx
Finally someone wearing the mistlands mage armor skirt in the witch costume
Should I make the Mistwalker and a shield if I'm playing mage class.
You won't need a shield but mistwalker can help for when you're low on eitr
Not necessary, but can be helpfull 🙂
With staff of protection you can keep yourself alive, and a shield isn't great with the low health of a mage
Is it even worth it making the mistwalker if i have the Frostner
It depends on if you want more damage but less knockback for a higher stamina cost or not
Maybe I'll keep the Frostner.
you shouldnt need iron just core wood for most things you want to build. iron can do 3 story buildings or crazy things. if something is red and breaking, see if you can connect a core wood beam either from directly below or diagonally
Many folks carry on even to Ashlands with Frostner, it solely depends if you want to switch to sword version that has similar frost but higher physical damage, note that it also costs more stamina to use.
Most noticeable differences between swords and maces are their different secondary attacks and that maces have higher knockback (which can help defensively in Ashlands) and swords have no multi target penalty (their damage don't get split between targets when hitting more than one enemy at once).
I personally love maces ‘cause the alternative attack bonks greylings into next week
Polearm secondary has even more knockback
Battleaxe secondary has also pretty hefty knockback.
Mace is funnier -3-
I usually favor maces and battleaxes in my playthroughs.
Oh, Krom is my main once I reach it. Far too satisfying.
2 handers are surely fun.
Weird question if I build a massive base will it be viable on the map?
Viable in what way?
The building is 3 story. I’ll try later today again.
Map doesn't change at all, not even if you cut trees in those areas on map that show there are trees.
Yeah like if I zoom in on the map I see the trees and whatnot I was just wondering if I build like a gigantic roof for some reason if I’d appear on the map as like a big brown square
Okay, so visible then. Like I said above, map doesn't change.
Thanks for clarifying.
Yeah that’s why I reiterated my question thanks for the answer my guy
my message deleted from fanart?
Did you post fan art or did you write reply/comment/message there? If any of the latter, then that's the reason.
Posted fan art, not a reply
Okay, if you want a reason for removal, you can send a DM to @lofty orchid and ask there. @teal storm
i cannot find copper to save my life any hints where it could be im running around the black forest like a chicken with its head cut off
It can be found anywhere in Black forest, search for big rock looking boulders with some green metallic tint on them. When you hover your cursor on them it will state it's copper.
ok ill keep an eye out for it cause i havent found anything yet but i havent been looking at the bg boulders though
Do metal grates block airflow or am I imagining things?
This is how copper deposit looks like.
so copper deposits just delete themselves if you dont dig them out prior to mining?
huh
They don't disappear.
ill find one or atleast try to
seems like when i clear the surface and try to dig down there isnt any, but digging it out first and mining yields way more
i found one.... i looked to my left and it was staring at
Some chunks in the deposit can be larger and reach lower underground and the deposit usually reach pretty deep too.
THERE WAS ONE NEXT TO MY HOUSE @tired root
how do i stop these stupid dwarfs from jumping me when im fighting a bear????
Torch 🙂
I still win but they make it so much more diificult then it needs to be
but i need my shield?
im beating him with a flint axe
You can also plop a campfire on the ground real fast 🙂
then i can use it to light the bear on fire hehehe
He also avoids fire 🙂 but you should still be able to use the fire to your advantage
hey im having an issue where valheim has no sound. i tried reinstalling and verifying file integrity, nothings working. i tried other games on steam and their sound is working. anyone encountered this have any ideas?
I presume you checked the settings to make sure it didn't get turned down in there somehow? Meaning in Valheims settings, not your PC, etc...
i checked both. all sound settings are on.
oh i restarted my PC and it's working now. but i have no idea what the issue was.
Do you have Sonic Studio?
no but i have fxSound
They only mention a problem with Sonic Studio over on Steam.
But I didn't read everything, so there may be other conflicts I didn't read about.
Hi,
I've been playing valheim for a few months now and since about 2 weeks ago the game crashes at random times.
I'm experiencing multiple crashes per hour and it's getting frustrating, losing items/ progress due to these crashes.
my setup:
AMD build
GPU RX9070XT
Windows 11
What I've done to work around this.
- lowered settings
- let steam verify installation
- reinstalled the game.
All to no avail. I get a unity error popup and the game closes, losing a lot of stuff in progress!
I've been searching for solutions but haven't found any.
Any help is appreciated !
do you play any other games than Valheim?
yes, no issues sofar there.
whats your cpu?
AMD Ryzen 7 9700X
do you have mods on?
no mods, vannila
You might want to try to get the latest drivers for your hardware, and try to do fresh installs if they give you the option to do so
i have updated all my drivers, the PC is now about 3 months old. issues started after the last update. and have been deling with it for the past 3 weeks i'd say
Well im outta ideas.
I hope you find how to fix this because its otherwise a fantastic game.
Thanks for listhing possible suggestions. but yea, i love the game, but it became unplayable. I saw someone mentioning uninstalling a windows 11 update. ill give that a go. hoping it will resolve the issue.
So if my running level is 22 and my exp bar is filled half way to the next one and I die how much xp do I lose?
Also when I’m repairing is it free? Please @ me if you answer please and thank you
Repair is free. Repairing buildings with hammer wears the hammer durability tho, but then hammer can also be repaired at workbench.
You lose 5% of your skill levels by default.
And IIRC the xp bar goes empty.
So I’ll lose whatever 5% of 22 is that’s a good bit of levels
Skill loss can be lowered to 1% from death penalty slider in world modifiers, 2 of the easiest settings.
And then final question (for now) when you prepare for a long journey what do u bring do u usually bring multiples of tools? And nah im trying to keep my game default so i can get the full experience lol
5% of 22 is 1.1, so you lose only 1 level in that case.
Good I didn’t want that level anyway
Depends where you are headed.
Building hammer is kinda BiS to have, plus portal materials to build quick portal back to your base.
Hoe can be useful in swamps, to level watery areas to ground level.
Leave cultivator in your base, you only need it for farming.
Pickaxe and axe can be good to have, but if you use axe as your weapon then it goes with you anyway. They can also be left until you need them and have established an outpost to the new biome that has portal to your main base.
Idk what the cultivator is.
I’m still a noob imo, I’ve beaten the first boss and I’m trying to farm the Black Forest but I found a thing for the second boss that showed me where it spawned and the alter is like super far from where I’m at so I was just unsure about what I should prepare I haven’t built a portal so I’m still not 100% sure how they work if it’s one way travel or both and I’m lowkey kinda lost atm I’m working on getting copper and iron smelted but I need to farm deer for there hide but I can’t find any to save my life sorry this turned into word vomit lol
I’m 24 hours in already
and I’m stuck
Portal is simple: you connect 2 with a same tag and can move between those locations. But only 2 can be connected to each other at the same time, so you might want to build more in the future.
One simple way to manage quick departure to base is building one portal and leave it without any tags, then while exploring you can simply build a workbench and portal which connects right away with the one at your base.
That makes sense but I already named the first portal I built it just cause I could lol but I think I know the name of it
Yes, when you name another portal with same tag it connects to the one at your base.
Note also that some items cannot be transferred through portal by default settings (all metals mostly), but that option can be adjusted in world modifiers. But I recommend trying default way first.
Yeah I’ll just suffer and keep it default I noticed my tin and copper can’t
It makes the metal sailing trips feel more rewarding. 👍
@tired root I’m trying to stay as spoiler free as possible but I gotta know is there any mountable turrets? Like a ballista to defend your base or to mount on a boat to fight a sea serpent or a catapult or something like that?
For base defence, there is one in later biome, non mountable tho. For boats there aren't any turret like weapons.
And there is also catapult and another siege tool available in the current end biome.
I play with my friend who has their own server they host by physically being in the server
Are we able to transfer save games across so that I can hop on the server when he is not around?
I'd imagine he would have to get the file with the world info and send it to me?
guys who is the second boss and is he hard?
Elder 🙂 and depends, he is certainly harder than Eikthyr
how many arrows should i brind?
bosses are meant to get progressively harder, yeah, but the actual difficulty is subjecctive
and do i have to swim to him?
Stack or two of fire arrows should be more than enough 🙂
depends on the map you get tbh
Not always, but often you have to sail
okay
sometimes you can walk to it, sometimes you have to traverse the ocean
is he on a good biome? should i build a portal there?
He is in black forest
dont be like me and start the boss with bow at like 30% durability haha
I mean, at that point you might want to head over to the wiki and spoil yourself completely of the fun of finding out about him...
okay i won't do that
not that it's hiding unspeakable secrets, it's just that... y'know, exploring is a core mechanic of the game and all
Hello I am returning player to the game, trying to find someone to play with
i need to swim 2 oceans. maybe one more.
Look no further than #1024264966712340510 😄
guys help i like playing valheim but i have trauma from playing subnautica
Awesome thank you!
do you always lose the nails whenever a boat breaks
Nails are recoverable, given when it doesn't break too deep.
You can also pick them up before they sink if you stand next to the mast as you break the ship 🙂
I am late to this, but ffr: all bosses die faster in melee.
Im worried you keep saying you need to "swim" to Elder. You have a karve, yes? The sailboat?
Raft
I would definitely recommend making a proper boat. You probably havent made any bronze nails?
Do that and you will unlock new recipes.
only secret passages in frozen caves are those ice walls right+
I wouldn't call them secret per se
What he said, but to answer the question, yes.
Does this game have magic?
I’ve seen stuff about it but have no idea if it’s mods or not
Yes, and it’s first available in the sixth biome.
I’m 25 hours in and I’m only at the second biome
What are some basic “rules” or tips a new player should follow please @ me so I see the messages
Try to get home before night and keep rested whenever possible
Don't get too hung up on what weapon is best, they're all pretty good so just find what you like or mix it up
Preparation is key to success, use best available foods for most dangerous encounters (boss fights, dungeon raids, entering new biome), rested buff is lifesaver, don't stay at 3rd biome during night and without rested buff.
Learning parry and dodge early save you from headache later. Save old gear for future corpse runs.
Most importantly: don't rush progression, keep your own pace, since it's not a race.
Food is the most important stat in the game.
And, to echo Fukov, the "best" weapon is the one you personally enjoy using the most.
does upgrading staff of the wild increases summons dmg?
What numbers change when you look at it in the upgrade tab?
@full grotto My estimation of the important basic rules: 1. Three best foods you can manage (watch timers, refresh when they start to flash, it is worth it). 2. Always have rested buff (can't be stressed enough). 3. Stamina management (most people die because they panic attack and run out of stamina) patience is your friend. Those three things make the game so much easier and apply to every biome, the rest is just preference and playstyle.
Thank you all for the advice and my question about the gear saving is there a armor stand I can make to store the armor and weapons for like decoration
Yeah, unlocked after you obtain iron
Shit ok and can you like position them in fun ways and they actually show the armor and weapon they’re holding
They do show the armor and weapon + shield, I don't know what you consider "fun ways"
Stand also boosts comfort by 1 so you should have one nearby regardless
Like I can position them in ways to create like a town or what not and like have one standing in a guard stance or one sitting and whatever else
They are all standing racks. They can be made to look like a person standing there or a barkeep but not sitting that I have seen.
Sure, you can place it whenever you want, they're just upright armor stands
Don't expect to be able to move their hands or legs or anything like that
(mainly because it doesn't have them lol)
It's basically a glorified coat rack
If you use vertical and horizontal items stands and some creatviity (build your own chair out of 1m beams) you could place vertical and horiztonal item stands and possibly get the sitting aspect with those and placed items, but I have not tried it to be certain.
Just in case it's something you're curious about, 1 iron bar = 2.5 armor stands
So I'm currently in the plains and I've never found the swords to be especially good weapons and worth the material to craft them. I've always found that maces or special weapons like Frostner are better in almost all regards. Are there any sword lovers out there and if so, what do they bring to the table that other weapons don't?
Less knockack and faster attack speed. Objectively maces are the best weapon type in the game though
Swords are most op in game (other than atgier) because of no damage loss on multiple target hits. Mistwalker is the way when you get to mistlands.
Unfortunately too few enemies that are resistant to exclusively blunt damage exist
I never noticed multi-target damage loss but I wasn't looking to be fair. So it's better in group than maces.
Honestly as long as you're not maining any kind of pierce damage you're good
I'm not seeing a difference in attack speed, at least on the wiki
If you are to plains and want to farm the silver for it, the silver sword is a great first foray into what swords can do. It is expensive (around 160 silver to max it out I think roughly) but an extremely viable weapon for a long time.
there's also a BM sword isn't there?
There is a BM sword. I'm considering trying them again but wasn't sure if it was worth the investment.
I guess if you play normally there isn't, but in my case I use the animation cancelling glitch lol
currently my go-to weapon is the porcupine.
Just looked really cool but everything I'm seeing says it suffers from being split damage types
it mainly just suffers because pierce damage sucks
Too many mobs are resistant to it, almost everything in the ashlands is too
Pierce is that bad hu? I really enjoyed the spear class in the stone and bronze age but once I read maces were super good in the swamp, I haven't really used one since
Yeah bonemass is resistant to slash and pierce, weak to blunt so maces dominate swamp
Not to mention the oozers and blobs
yeah between many things being weak to it and nothing resisting it (except maybe aboms I think), it made the swamp a lot easier than it otherwise would have been.
That's what I hate about the game's balancing, so few things are exclusively resistant to blunt damage that it makes mace gameplay too easy
swords are a nice generalist weapon that's usually at least decent against most things and lets you carry a shield--solid, not flashy, in my book
I already died a good bit in the swamp but being without a mace would have made it intollerable. Since black metal is so plentiful, I'll probably make a sword with it and give it another shot in place of the porcupine. It'll probably be really nice in the clusters of goblins
The porcupine certainly didn't feel like the upgrade in damage I was expecting
Only the projectile damage and durability are increased, but quality doesn't affect to the amount of roots or the damage they deal, damage of them is affected by elemental magic skill level.
So you can save 3 jades by not upgrading the staff, you usually want to rely on the roots when using it.
Just so happens the frostner dominates entry to the biome 3 biomes ahead of it so yeah.. maces, hooray!
yeah Frostner is the value king--if you sneak silver 1 biome early it just destroys swamp
then it keeps hitting hard all the way even as deep as Mistlands between the frost damage, the slow effect from frost, and the blunt damage
Hits just as hard upon entering ashlands lol
oh yeah I forgot all the dead crap, and bet frost ain't bad either
Yeah Frostner was awesome. I was just expecting something in the plains to be a meaningful upgrade but it's actually been a tough contender
It's the perfect blend of blunt, which most ashlands mobs aren't resistant to, frost and spirit, which melt the skeletons
so good it deserves 2 emojis

How far do the star ratings go?
Up to 2 stars
Darn that’s it
2 stars are no joke if you are not careful 😄
Trust me I know the boars look cool though
If you want harder combat and more starred enemies you can always increase the combat difficulty setting 🙂
Sorry I have just a million questions I basically live in this chat but the big green skeleton I encountered in a dungeon is he like a special boss or something cause I’ve ran into a red skeleton before but not a big green one
rancid remains?
Red skeleton was just normal 2 star skeleton 🙂 the green one is another mob that can rarely spawn in burial chambers
Ah gotcha then does he have his own like rare loot pull with rare item unlocks?
Not really, it doesent drop anything useful, but its trophy is quite rare if you are a completionist 🙂
Gotcha gotcha and I’ve already sunk in a good bit of hours so I might as well catch em all lmfao
Also are boars the only tame in the meadows/Black Forest area
Yep 🙂 another tamable you get in ||4th biome||
Ah gotcha I won’t get there for another 30 hours hahahah
Tamable animals are easily recognized by their status when hovering your cursor on them (wild, afraid etc).
Haha, welcome to the grind. Or to the speed run if you know the tricks to each biome.
I’ve played for 25 hours total the only trick I know is to hold shift at all times
because 10000m is a long way and I don't have all day
And that is not even halfway across the world 😄
exactly!
Someone explain what the dots actually are so I can connect them?
run everywhere all the time?
Oh... imagine holding shift instead of just going to settings and enabling Toggle Sprint 😉
You go back to walking? Tapping it once every so often is a lot less effort than holding it down the whole time.
ah, understand now. tap shift to toggle instead of hold.
do enemies just attack my shit for no reason?
Some stuff is attacked on sight, yep. Not everything you build tho. 🙂
i have a smelter and the charcoal furnace do they count as on sight
Yes they do 🙂
damn i just made them ok thanks BUT if i put them behind walls are they fine?
sorry that thought came to me mid sentence
If enemies cant see them they will not hit them 😄 so yeah walls will work
alright bet bet ill fix it then
Walls with stakes work wonders.
do the stakes deal damage?
https://valheim.fandom.com/wiki/Sharp_stakes these do 🙂
betttt thank you also what axe do i need to destroy the birch trees i have a flint one and it dont work
You are in black forest right?
yes sir/maam
Then the one you make by using metal from there 😄
alsoooo is the kettle thing where i make meals? I havent made it yet so im asking if its gonna be a crafting menu or is it gonna be like a i throw stuff in and whatever combo works works
a crafting menu for food the cauldron yes
thanks
The ketill is for meads (potions basically) 🙂 cauldron is for food
ok ok ok thanks
and the mead ketill sort of says on the label what its for haha
Rarely will you need to go to the next biome to get something from the previous biome.
Hmm?
Oh, I hit a dead zone and a few messages went through before mine did. Was meant for the birch tree question.
Ah, yeah, very few of these examples tho 😄
If you do have to go back, it's usually because you either skipped a step, or just missed the key ingredient.
Indeed 🙂
is there a forge upgrade that can't go through walls? I built all my upgrades on the opposite side of the wall behind my forge to save space and my forge is only level 6 so one isn't registering. (Got it fixed. 1 item was just a hair too far away)
yooo me and my girlfriend had a world together she was on xbox im on pc and now all of a sudden she cant join me????
now it all of a sudden worked???
Bellows has to touch the forge afaik.
yeah I remember the bellows was really obnoxious when i first got access to it so I put it as close as I could behind the wall. It was the mini anvils.
they were just like a couple pixels shy of registering. I just started destroying stuff until the anvil didn't go down to level 5 😛 that's one way to find the problem child
Do any of the hildir clothes not just come across as man in a dress? 🤣
well to be fair, i'm googling images and i can't really tell between male and female characters
Ok 🙂
You're just not meant to cram it into your house like a workbench might be, it is intentionally spaced to encourage making an area for forging. Think Skyrim Blacksmith's area, it is always outside the house.
how do you get the metal in ashlands
Have you located Flametal Pillars?
no
I've just viewed it like a 2nd workbench and it seems to work well enough
what do they look likie
If you search inland, there are large pillars protruding from the lava, you're meant to climb those and mine them.
You won't miss them, they contrast against the large lava pools quite well.
Ah, well you mentioned some of the upgrades being obnoxious, and you did end up with a silly looking area in the screenshot, so I thought I'd mention why.
how do you live and touch lava?
The bellows was when I originally first got it. Now all of that in the screenshot is tucked behind a nice clean wall for efficient space
Look into Basalt Bombs, but also, the pillars will typically spawn close enough to safe land, and you can just jump.
@vagrant pulsar you can also attempt taming an Asksvin(can be mounted and rode through lava with no damage), though it's not necessary at all.
I'm unsure of what exactly I'm reading. Are serving trays single use also?
so every time I make a feast it's 140g?
No they're more of a tool for placing meals.
no. serving tray is a tool, you can repair it.
ok thx
ok cool thanks. I wanted to make sure my animal of a PC wasn't eating the plate too
when do they spawn?
@regal wedge you'll see when you use the tray, you don't eat off it. you use it to place the feast on a table or equivalent. then you eat at the table.
At all times, but the 2 star Asksvin spawn at night.
Ok, what’s the most effective way to deal with skeletons?
the Charred? something that knocks them back.
I like to kite them around and take them on one at a time. use the rocks with the narrow paths to your advantage.
What RudeMann said above, I like to use a Battleaxe, the secondary hit is unmatched for range and knockback.
ok
has anyone found particularly good use of the blob bombs? Wondering if it's something worth investing gold in
They're good for early raids and will deal with mobs quickly, but aside from that I haven't heard of much else.
When I read that they can be agro to the player, I got sad
might be fun to toss a couple in a fuling village just to watch them run around.
I don't much see the application though, except maybe if the frost blobs have the slowing effect.
ok ok okso im mining my copper veins but theyre giving me basically no copper
Are you digging down into the earth as well?
There's usually more to a node beneath the dirt layer.
yeah i found some after digging deeper but like i just mined a whole node and it gave me like 3
3 in total or 3 stacks?
sorry 5 total
Yeah that can't be right, I've never walked away with less than 25.
WHAT REALLY???
Yeah.
how far do i have to dig cause id mine the big rock on top then hit like 3 times afterwards
It's usually about 5 swings deep against the dirt.
i went back to the vein i was mining at and started smacking around and i did find more
yeah i see that now thank youj
Hey. Is using balistas and traps a viable way to weaken ashland boss, Fader?
Define "viable"?
Yes. XD
Do they do something to it - lets start with that
I want to say yes?
Problem is idk if they do enough to matter.
I must try it then. My recent encounter with it was pretty challenging to me and I hoped I can take it down easier this time 😛
Are there any items that make mining in the water / mining things underwater easier?
not in my experience sadly
fellas if im trying to tame another animal in the same pen with an already tamed animal of the same type will they attack each other or should i separate them first
Interesting question. I dont know the answer, but would also like to know.
i've always either separate them first and tame one at a time at a special taming cage i made, then i transfer them to the breeding pen
so if one is tamed and the other still wild, they wont attack each other?
aight cool thats pretty neat
I dont know if they attack or not
They can be very useful. Some examples:
- Poison blobs are effective against the residents in Frost cave (cultists and ulv are weak against poison and blobs resist their attacks)
- Growths can be strategically positioned against fulings when raiding their camps, especially if there are starred berserkers
- Lava blobs are effective for mining stone/copper from ground and grausten from ruins in Ashlands (those ruins contain a lot of it as they are buried quite deep in ground).
I'm not certain how but I activated a thing where a red bar thing that pops up under the stamina when fighting. It fills up when I hit something then degrades after not fighting for a moment.
You equipped a trinket. That is your adrenaline meter.
do i need to feed the newly hatched hens in order for them to grow up?
I now feel a lil silly
Same type of mobs don't attack each other, tamed or not.
Chickens don't eat, hens do. Growing up happens over time.
Trinkets and adrenaline mechanic were added in latest Call to Arms update, when adrenaline fills up it activates the trinket you're equipping, granting its bonus buff.
i bought 3 serving trays thinking that they'd be occupied while the meal was on the table so I'd need 3 to have 3 meals 😅
thanks man
Heh, guess that can be mistaken. But now you have some in case you lose/miss one.
Think serving tray as a tool like building hammer but for placing foods, meads and feasts.
Yeah thats a good description. I could maybe even put down an item stand and put the extras on tables for decoration
Totally, also easy access for usage. 👍
Any idea if I'm able to remove that large slope of land on the right side connected to the wall?
I'm also pretty sure I can't do anything about the runestone so best thing I've got for it is that I'll eventually build over it
As awkward of a position as it's in
as long as they're of the same species, yes. But if you were to put a wolf inside a boar pen, you can guess how that may play out, I believe? 😂
This is a general rule: mobs don't attack other mobs of the same faction, and since they themselves don't change the overall faction after taming, they won't attack themselves.
oh, wait, someone already answered that. Sorry for the double ping
If you can't dig any lower then thats it, can't do anything about it sadly, pretty much same for the runestone, iirc that one can't be deletedneven with devcommands.
Not sure if you are into modding but there is a mod 'digdeeper' which would allow you to dig that away. On vanilla though, you are capped at that point.
sadly you can only dig about 8 meters down so no
roof keeps collapsing, idk how to fix it, tried putting iron beams but nothing
Including iron beams straight up from the ground to the ceiling above?
i connect beams from straight beams to the collapse?
Wdym
like u place 45 degree beams on the beams from floor to up and place em towards middle roof?
That may help, but the shortest path is a straight pillar of beams directly below where the roof is collapsing
The shorter the path the more stable they’ll be
well the beams have like 4 roof gaps from the collapsing part
I still don’t know what you mean by that
ok ill try to explain xd im so bad at it sorry
ill draw it for you so bad at explaining sry
here, from straight beams to the collapsed part is 5 roof lines if u understand, so is it worth doing 45 beams from the straight ones to there would you say?
It is worth it for sure if that will provide enough stability to keep it up
However if that isn’t enough, the best way to make it more stable would be to build a pillar of beams from the ground directly below the collapsed roof up to it, as that’s the shortest path from the ground to the roof
And if that doesn’t work either, you could always create a pillar of terrain and build up from there to get max stability from higher up, though it’ll take up a fair bit of space in the middle of your building, and it probably isn’t necessary here
ok, ill try it out definitly thank you
Hey Folks. I might be stupid or maybe not but I'm trying to make a little Map Marker Legend so that all the folks in my server can use the same names for markers. I don't seem to fine them as individual icons anywhere. I might be dense but regardless, could any of you magnificent human beings help out a fellow Valheim Dweller?
I will repay you in everlasting gratitude and name a portal after you.
Like, you can see what other people have on the map but not what they named it or..?
I think they want to make a pin system that all the players would use to mark stuff 🙂
Exactly, Asatru.
Yes, I am asking if the above is true before continuing 🙁
I have a process where I establish baselines before I invoke higher thinking so as not to mess up the later step 😭
Perfectly reasonable approach to an issue.
So basically I need to find the individual icons as downloadable pictures to integrate it in a little spreadsheet I'm thinking about. I need to do this so that we have the same names for things like Berries, Kryptas/Trollcaves etc.
So IN-GAME is not the issue?
It is both. If I prepare the sheet before the start of the server, I can avoid in game issues with naming proceedures.
Because I could also give you my system that involves no words for marking at all, just the icons 😄
So there would be no naming procedure as nothing is named 🙂
Mine doesn't use a lot of names so far put for example Mushrooms are dot "P" (Pilz) or dot "h" (Himbeere) for the red berries.
May I take a look at your system?
I have kinda similar, dot for forageables (rb for raspberries, m for mushroom, bb for blueberries, cb for cloudberries etc).
Nice. I only use one letter per biom if possible and if not I use the English or German word for it. Thistles for example are D (Distel) to not confuse it with a Trollcave (T) with a Mjölnir
Copper is dot C
I use campfire for dungeons and hammer for sources of metals (including sunken crypts despite being dungeon).
@civic owl Nothing needs to be typed because the biome the symbol is in tells you what it means.
Fireplace = Forageables
- Meadows: Raspberries
- Black Forest: Blueberries
- Swamp: Guck Trees
- Mountain: N/A
- Plains: Cloudberries
- Mistlands: N/A
- Ashlands: Fiddleheads
Giant T = Mineables
- Meadows: N/A (Early on I mark Oak trees with this until I can plant my own)
- Black Forest: Copper
- Swamp: Iron Crypts
- Mountain: Silver
- Plains: Tar Pits
- Mistlands: Skulls
- Ashlands: Flametal Pillars
Dot = Dungeon
- Meadows: N/A
- Black Forest: Burial Mound
- Swamp: N/A
- Mountain: Frost Cave
- Plains: N/A
- Mistlands: Infested Mine
- Ashlands: N/A
House = Inhabited
- Meadows: Draugr Village
- Black Forest: Troll Cave
- Swamp: Surtling Spawner
- Mountain: Drake Nest
- Plains: Fuling Village
- Mistlands: Dverger Tower
- Ashlands: Fortress
Runestone = Misc/Things with 2 types
- Meadows: Mushroom
- Black Forest: Mushroom
- Swamp: N/A
- Mountain: N/A
- Plains: N/A
- Mistlands: Ribcages
- Ashlands: N/A
- Ocean: Where I left the boat.
First of all thank you for writting this all down 😄 I will look at it. Gimme a second.
Take your time 😄
Make sense for the most part but how do you mark Shrooms?
Runestone?
Oh there it is.
Mushrooms are the second forageable and Ribcages are the second mineable.
Runestone was the one icon I had no use for so it fell into the slot of "doubled-up things" 😄
I don't make Thistles or Tin because the first are just obvious to spot when walking and the second is just "follow the coastline" and you break Tin in 2-3 hits so it's not worth a permanent mark the way copper is.
I don't mark Tin either obviously but if I ever find a blackforest with a lot of them it makes sense to have them marked if you ever run out.
I like how your brain works completly different to mine but I'd get annoyed by constantly having to switch the symbol 😄
I'd get annoyed by having to constantly type 😄
And when going back to review the map, just having the symbols makes it faster to read what is where.
One letter? 😄 Double click for dot, letter, enter
Dot meaning multiple things 😭
That's why letter 😄
Yeah, I like just seeing the dot and immediately knowing 😄
I think it could be too much of a hastle to teacht the others your system but I will keep it in mind 🙂 Thank you
Why do I have the feeling that you're a rather artistic person? 😄
RAGES AFTER TYPING ALL THAT BECAUSE THIS IS THE INTERNET AND HOW DARE YOU
😏
It's fine... everyone hates on my bronze armor 😭
I mean if I'd want to make it even more natural I'd have to take into consideration how each member is wired in regards on how they digest information faster. You work better with pictures? Here's @steep tusk System. You need to read stuff? Here's a letter underneath a dot! You like maths? What's wrong with you and why aren't you playing Eve Online or something?
So I shouldn't mentioned the 2 spreadsheets I made that are pinned in #valheim-chat ... because maths...
😄
... Show me.
You make me read in video game??
Food sheet is mainly just a data table.
Blocking sheet is an automatically updating work of art.
Uga buga!
Oh I can imagine it's glorious 😄
What weird and playsr unfriended game design
🤔
Minecraft only lets you dig down like 256.
BUT I WANT TO DIG TO 257, THIS IS WEIRD AND UNFRIENDLY GAME DESIGN.
🤔
It's just a part of the game you'll have to get used to'^^
I NEED HELP MY PIG ESCAPED HOW DO I GET IT BACK
how?
HES SPRINTING AWAY HES MY ONLY ONE STAR KING OINK IS ZOOMING
i opened the door to get in
and he got out
Why make mechanics in your game that hinder building for seemingly no reason in an exploration and building game
See previous.
Like I genuinely cannot come up with a reason as to why you aren't allowed to dig down further on those spots or make caves in cliff sides
See. Previous.
Some people do "airlock" systems for entry to pens so things cannot escape.
Other people use ladders because animals cannot climb them.
i do not have the ladder unlocked so air lock it is thank you
Unlocked? If you have picked up wood, you have ladders.
ohh i see them sorry i was really expecting them to look differnt hahaha
They are "steep stairs" with the main difference being animals can climb normal stairs.
i got them thank you
It is easier if you build 2 of them and walk up the spine in between them.
ngl im scared they will still somehow escape so i made it so i gotta jump to reach it
Valid.
also do i only regen health if i have eaten?
Yes. Food is what gives you health regen points.
gotcha thank you
Do all items have the same range of preventing spawn or something has bigger range, like workshop or fireplace?
Workbench range gets larger with every upgrade attached to it.
And artisan table has double the normal range 🙂
That's because it has 1/100th the normal usefulness 😏
when i go to build a table why is there a little hammer above the work bench?
It's showing you THAT is the bench allowing you to build it.
Meaning you are in that bench's radius.
Its very useful at looking pretty though as well!
I really, really wanted it to introduce jewelry making and something like the Trinket system..
1)because there's little reason to do it in the first place and some biomes actually depend on height for them to be biomes. Like mountains.
- because game doesn't allow it. And they neither can nor want to allow caves
What kind of answer is that lol
"Players actually just don't want this thing based on my own observation of reading someone say they want it, therefore that's why it doesn't exist"
Also if for some reason Iron Gate just actually can't implement those things then it's whatever I suppose
devs*
You keep dodging this very valid point for some reason...
Mods seemingly can fix it from what I've seen so
is there an easy way to make a dedicated server
players don't develop the game, devs do
Yes. Best to ask in #dedicated-server though.
Not at all what I said nor do I really think that's relevant
Players actually just don't want this thing
Um.. it's spot on.
Just replace "Minecraft" with "Valheim" and "256" with "8" and the rest is verbatim your point.
i have no idea how that's relevant to me saying this
And they neither can nor want to allow caves
why would i be mentioning players being the ones who decide whether is possible or not?
My comment came from you saying there's little reason to do it anyways
In what way are you an authority figure to decide what players want to do, I'm over here terraforming part of my base and I certainly think it'd be handy
i'm not... what are you talking about?
That and devs decide what to add / change based on what players want, and if it's simply not possible to do then the devs could just say that. Like modders can do it.
Seems you're a bit upset about speaking with the community in a community discord.
so what they do already...
i really don't know what's the logic behind "i'm agreeing with what you're saying" but using a tone that makes it seem like you're disagreeing
..?
i literally mentioned above about devs being the ones deciding on features
they don't want to, they won't add it
and caves are not and will never be possible
This isn't a case of, it can be done and so it will be. There's a design philosophy that extends beyond what's possible, and considers so many elements. Gameplay intention and performance being paramount.
You said that making cliffside caves and lower minimum dig height for certain biomes / land shapes isn't possible, yeah?
no, i said caves are not possible
increased height for terrain is, but they don't want to
Okay now this is just rude wording
...
I'd prefer if you just told me whether or not they actually said that
Maybe I'm misunderstanding
To me it just sounds like you personally deciding whether it's possible or not when you aren't actually saying that the devs have put out that message. Saying "they won't" or "they don't want to" doens't feel super concrete to me, or is just a bit difficult to understand.
Terrain based caves are possible but aren't a part of the design for the game. If they were to change that philosophy, so many things would need to be adjusted. Mob pathing for example, they currently form basic paths atop the terrain, but with two levels of terrain, this would become a much more complex pathing calculation.
That's just one aspect.
Okay yeah, I prefer being told actual reasons why it's not possible rather than just "devs say no"
so thank you
Sometimes "devs said no" is the reason though.
And that's perfectly fair yeah
Rianu is just giving the shorthand to be fair.
I just wanted something a little more informative than just that, the phrasing sounded a bit like you were inferring that answer rather than redirecting the answer given from the devs
I'm not the best at understanding phrasing sometimes though so my bad
Not to worry, but in some cases all we have is what we're presented with. Now, if you're truly adamant about a cave structure, you can spawn in large rocks above a trenched area to form a pseudo cave. Also, the instanced caves can be built in with a certain command.
I could also see a suggestion surrounding terrain limits being interesting, where a console command could alter or remove these limits entirely.
Yeah me and my friend plan to play around with large Mountains rocks and maybe build something into them
Into them and underneath them mostly
Feel free to post some screenshots of it in #building-screenshots and tag me if you like, would love to check it out.
So me and my friends want to play valheim and since theres 8 of us how would that 4% health/damge scaling thing work?
4+4+4+4+4+4+4+4 = 4 * 8 = ?
it tops out at 5 i believe
Ok thank you
Thats what i was thinking
But i also saw that health scales by 30% per player
I can't find the scaling article on wiki but that would mean health is +150% for 8 players (5x30)
Any way to get rid of these skeletons in the ash lands
Yea
There just so many I can’t even find the metal for the ash lands bc I get overwhelmed
But if you click on it, it doesn't say it on the article
Does staff of protection damage absorb after armor or before?
It’s useless
I had staff of protection and I parried a attack and my bobble went away
found the article and info: Creature damage is further increased by 4% and effective health is further increased by 30% for each additional player within 100 meters. These are also applied to tamed creatures. This scaling caps at 5 players. So max is +120% Effective Health and +16% damage for 5 or more players if I understand and correctly calculated, because its +0% for just 1 player
Ok thank you
Could someone help me retrieve my gear, I died on a small swamp island and I have no way to get to there.
Does Heart of the Forest stack with Lingering healing mead?
Trinkets have no interactions with meads.
So "yes" in the same way Rested stacks with everything else.
Does anyone know how lox pathfinding works? How do I prevent them from doing this out of nowhere, all the time (I on purpose want to avoid blocking off water)
One of many reasons why I no longer tame lox. They will even pile up to go over that wall when they get aggroed. If not just destroy the walls.
I haven't had too much trouble with them until now. For some reason they insist on going specifically to that spot behind the wall, for absolutely no reason. There are no mobs there, there is nothing there. How come they are so stubborn
is there any way to turn the dust off when using pickaxe? i already turned the graphics to the lowest and still...
Only way I know of is to do it when it rains. Same goes for farming, and the dust annoys me in both cases.
its just blocks my vision when tunnelling and its so annoying
Yep, blocks mine too. So with farming I can have a hard time seeing the next spot in which I want to plant.
Yeah it sucks
I'll wait for rain when I want to plant my large crops. Fortunately, I rarely wait for long.
I usually just run no dust mods via r2modman. Absolute essential for me whenever I play valhiem
Preparing to fight moder, this is my current set up, given drakes are weak to fire I'm assuming she is too, but I can't think of any source of fire damage besides fire arrows
(don't my inventory, preparing to medium health brew mead)
You seem to have needle arrows already so use them. Even though she is weak to fire the damage output is better with obsidian/needle than with fire arrows.
What is this clutter festival of an inventory, unbelievable!
I figured as much, I was more so wondering if I was being stupid and forgetting of any fire weapons (torches not included)
Yeah, there are no other fire weapons at that state.
Oh my lord, I finally find a moder location and the mountain is in the mistlands
Is there any method to find vegvisirs easier or do I just have to sail around the map and pray
There are 3 Moder locations in each world, vegvisirs show the closest location.
Vegvisirs for Moder can be found in some ruins or inside Frost caves.
Those mountains can have small area of some other adjacent biome where it would be safer to travel through.
Then, there is this World gen website where you can put your seed info to it and it shows your world with all locations (you can filter them).
I didn't realise they could spawn in frost caves too, good to know
Yeah, they were added in early 2022 and is another source for the vegvisir, before adding the caves they were much rarer.
I also found this trying to get home, and so I'm not going to ask what it is, but if I'll die if I try to find out, because those anglerfish look kinda spooky
The lamp? It's ||wisplight that moves the mist away from it||.
Moder defeated :D
So... I have found 2 swamp areas but no catacombs/iron? am I missing something here?
Have you entered dungeons? That’s where you’ll find iron.
are the dungeons not on the swamps?
There are dungeons in the swamps, just look out for a green torch
green torches are placed near some other structures as well, but yeah
Just unlucky 🙂 some swamps just dont have any, especially small and/or thin ones. Try to find few more swamps and you will find some crypts eventually.
Each swamp, even smaller ones can contain turnip seeds tho.
I would use the wolf cape but that’s just me bc I had a lot of wolf parts
I mean I have/had plenty but capes provide so little armour I don't see the point, I could have a lox cape if I really felt like it
I do a cape with frost resistant
That way don’t need anything else for the rest of the game
Yeah wolf capes and onward render you immune to cold.
Witch is a nice benefit
🧙♀️
I mean considering that I am currently in wolf armour I didn't see the need to switch
sadly
do torches prevent spawning? cuz the spawn is outside of the workbench radius
and they dont spawn
Afaik torches do prevent spawning.
thanks for the info, i also learned new word, afaik :D
Yeah, shortened version of "as far as I know".
My valheim crashes pretty much whenever I alt tab out of the game.
Some people suggested to put the valheim process as high priority which I did, and then to run on windowed mode. Both options didnt work. Anyone has any insight on that?
Which GPU do you have?
9800x3d
You mean no dedicated graphic card, just that CPU you mentioned?
oh, gpu
sorry, I have a 3050
Right now I installed a bunch of drivers that windows update didnt touch, and I disabled windows game mode. Ill see how that work.
Reinstalling the driver should be sufficient but be sure to do custom install + clean install options. Had the same issue as well.
I did that too
I just saved the game. Ill see if it freezes again
Seems fixed for now. We will see in the future.
Anyone want to help me farm flametle I need a lot to finish my tower and I suck at the Ashlands
How much damage would spirit do against spirit
Hi. I am at the copper age rn and wonder whats the "best" armour i could craft myself now. I have the copper set, the troll set and the standard ones. But is for example the bear set better than the copper set afterall?
Best is subjecthive.
Whatever armor you, personally, feel like wearing is the best armor for you.
Hm. Well my set would be a troll set but wearing the wizard hat and holding a magic headache stick. But i wonder about the stats. Functionality. Is a bear armour worth crafting? Or are there too many downsides?
Worth is subjecthive to the individual 😭
I cannot determine what you, personally, do and do not find worth. Nor can anyone else.
Look at the stats and bonuses on the armor, if it sounds good to you, then it is good. If it sounds bad to you, then it is bad.
Hmm. KK. Thx
Do you like slashing weapons?
Do you parry enough that the increased damage taken doesn't matter?
Do you enjoy having 30% of your screen blocked by a massive hat?
-- Bear armor is for you!
If you prefer piercing or blunt weapons -- you won't get anything out of it compared to wearing Troll or Bronze.
I like the atgeir and spear shild combo aswell as the bow
I like to hurt my enemies or jsut tickle them for my own amusement
Then you, personally, would be better served with Troll or Bronze.
KK. Guess imma stay with one of them. Or just mix them for fancy reasons
Being fancy is a perfectly valid reason to wear your armor.
Right?
I knew it. My brother keeps telling me im supposed to wear it as a armour against enemies. But i wanna wear it cause it works and makes me look great
If you're good at blocking your worn armor is largely pointless.
-# wears troll armour with a wizard hat
Im not. I tank it all
Are you on very easy or something?
hello new to the game i just got the cauldron and i can make the boar jerky whats the next meal i can make and how do i unlock it (pls dont spoil to to much)
Get carrots from Black Forest. They unlock multiple things.
And the Blueberries.
ok ok ok
(Same bush as the Raspberries, just in the BF)
Nah. I just have regen because of my food and also cuase i often die once around high active regions. Then collecting my stuff makes me immortal and with 120 hp and 112endurance im good
But i guess then i can run around like this and if i can parry im good?
Atgeirs are very decent for parrying provided you eat the proper food. (As food is the stat that gives you the most blocking power)
I wanna build here a storage room. Maybe a second one above. Any tips maybe? Smt i should know before spending too much time in smt pretty much useless yet?
Cause i would have 2 floors and wanna use them in a effizient and smart way
Doing 2-story construction prior to Iron is not advised because wood doesn't have many structural points, so your height/width is very limited.
Meaning? I should wait until i have iron before building such a building for storage?
Yes.
Oh. Cant i just unlock iron and replace all the walls then with it etc?
Ironwood beams give you the highest points.
And iron also unlocks building with stone. So you may change your design when you have both of those things.
No like, you won't be able to put a roof on your current building due to the height limit of wood.
Ah. So its jsut becuase of the roof? But other than that i dont have to wait for anything?
KK. Noted. Aint gonna build anything more to it. Other than the chests i really need. But so i cant just select like stone wall and placve it over the wood one?
weren't iron pieces supposed to be safe from water damage?
even the wiki says so, and yet...
Ah that has to be a mistake, this has always been the case.
Are you sure it was water that damaged that fence, and not something else like an enemy or accidental swing?
1x1 Cage Walls do take rain damage.
Okay. Good to know.
I just took a screenshot of one, but the entire thing is getting damaged, not just that one piece, so yeah... guess I'm either covering it up or I might just leave it like that lol
is this plain enought to build a base?
more than enough for the necessary stuff
alr thanks man
would still recomend making it a big bigger
just so you have more freedom to build and expand later on
yeah ill expand to that side later on but i really need a base to sotre my stuff
building next to a black forest can be dangerous would recomend building a terrain wall or a moat because if a troll comes over he will wreak havoc
yeah i wass planning to build a moat later on
also if you want i can send an example of how big i make my basses
sure why not
its alr
in this base the "necessary stuff" are all in the middle two buildings everything else is just for decoration
i see
What station are the blob bombs crafted at?
Workbench.
When you have bought vials and gotten certain mats and trophies they should appear to be craftable in workbench.
Is a single campfire at the entrance of a burial chamber enough to prevent the respawning of the three skeletons outside? I have a sick blueberry patch near one and don't want to have them aggroing forest creatures and accidentally destroying bushes
(and I guess - are those special spawn points even blockable by player base objects?)
Is it too late for me to join the tournament tomorrow? Would love to hangout out and tag along
how do i obtain shelves to place chests
there are no shelves so you have to make your own. place a 1 meter wood pole then snap a 1x1 floor piece to it do this next to a wall and then destroy the wood pole
the campfire prevents spawning in a 20 meter radius so it might be enough
also why not build a wall around the bushes
Might, but a troll swinging at a skeleton might still break them 🙂
i see
probably because campfires prevent tar spawns
well my first base is looking nice
its not completed yet
not bad but building a roof is going to be a nightmare
yeah i know 😭
you definetly need core wood poles since those give a bit more strunctial integrity
how do i get that
you get core wood from black forest pine trees, pine trees are found a bit deeper in the black forest unlike fir trees wich are on the outside
Hi, I’m having trouble connecting to my Valheim Dedicated Server.
My Steam client is set to auto-update and shows version 0.221.4,
but when I updated the server using SteamCMD with the following command, it became 0.221.5:
steamcmd +force_install_dir /valheim +login anonymous +app_update 896660 validate +exit
Now I can’t join the server.
Is there a way to either match the server to my client or fix this version mismatch?
You can build shelves, cabinets and all kinds of things with a little creativity. My fav part of this is the beveled top.
Odd, it should be 221.4. I'd check your server if there's a way to be able to use an older version. Not sure how it got the 221.5
Same Problem is reported!
umm, I guess we'll just have to wait?🧐
https://www.reddit.com/r/valheim/comments/1nx61nm/server_version/
No way to have your server use an older version?
Umm, I can use other branches(default_preml, default_precta, ...etc).
I've suddenly encountered this strange problem with saving my game. I've been around the ringer of so many solutions. None seem to work. I've recently discovered that the issue MIGHT be tied to a specific zone where Hildir would normally spawn. At least I think. I attempted to create a new fresh world with the same seed, and there I can save just fine. But as soon as I enter that Hildir spawn location, then I can no longer save. If I log in to the world away from that area, the game runs like normal. Until I go to that location again. And I don't clearly see any errors in the console or in the log. I'm at my wits end, hopin' someone here has had similar issues or might recognize what's going on. My assumption is the problem is worldgen/mod related, but I honestly have no clue, since nothing pushes any errors.
Any help or guidance or some direction to go in would be much much appreciated 🙏
(also sorry if this is the wrong channel for this)
Edit: the two screenshots show my initial save. Which just states a value is null. Subsequent saves say there is a "sharing violation".
at what stage of the game does it become safe to cross the ocean?
After black forest you should not have much trouble really 🙂
Immediately?
Serpents are balanced for black forest equipment
Not for newbies 😄
When is it not safe?
hmmm alrighty im still stuck in the black forest cause the elder decided to spawn 100 miles away
When on on raft
i have the other boat unlocked
You have a bow at that time. Just shoot things?
If you have a karve and finewood bow you’ll be ok
i do have those things
Then you should be pretty safe 🙂 if you encounter the oceán enemy just set full sail with the wind So he doesent catch you and shoot to your hearts content
ok thank you
i'm curious, when on a boat can you let go of the rudder and will the boat continue going along that path?
Yes.
if the sail is unfurled, yes, but if you're paddling you'll just keep your inertia and slowly come to a standstill (and if you jump out of the ship it will come to a halt immediately)
question me and my gf are playing im on pc and shes on xbox and we have a base together and when we both go into build mode her white circle is smaller then mine so i can build further then her any reason why thats happening?
Question, what i need to get this food eatable?
Use serving tray to put it on table.
I eat just food in inventory xD, i didn't know about this mechanic
Feasts have required it since they were added a decently long time ago.
Serving tray works similarly to building hammer but for placing feasts, foods and meads.
Bog Witch update was added year ago, still easy to miss if one has gotten back after long time.
I only watche Valheim 4 years ago and started playing like half a year, so yea i didn't know
Guys, i went into a sealed tower on my latest run, fought my way down to Zil & Thungr, but to my surprise, both mini bosses were missing 🙁
no trace of them anywhere.. i cleared the whole tower, but they arent there.
Didnt have the problem with the Smouldering Tomb or with the Howling cavern. Bosses were there, no prob.
Am i experiencing a bug?
I have killed Moder, but have not killed Yagluth yet.
Did you went to the bottom area of the tower?
yes. i went down to the "cellar" where they usually walk around. i killed them multiple times before in old runs.
Lowest level down in the Sealed tower, where the chests are with the eggs & treasure.
Interesting, I haven't encountered such situation by myself. Do you have any mods in play?
oh yeah, that might be it, you are correct. I didnt think of that.
Im using PlantEverything and a NoSmoke mod for quality of life.
I guess a mod bricked something, makes sense.
I recommend asking in https://discord.com/channels/391142601740517377/1202550198174486599 as someone might know.
It's sadly a risk with mods that they might brick something in core game as it's still in EA and has no mod support yet.
yeah. you are absolutely right. thanks for your time and for your help ! 🙏
How working the website of valheim world map? Like it's kinda bad cause i can't find what i want sometimes, as now i tried to found the PlaceOfMystery(Dyrnwyn sword) by coordinates, but found fortpost of dvergrs xD
🤔
How old is your world? It's possible the latest update switched locations in unexplored areas due to old maps generating new content in.
Like half a year? +- that
Yeah, then it has switched to other location after Call To Arms update. You can get new location from the vegvisir that pointed you to the previous location.
Ah, okay
Thanks
what should I bring when I first enter swamp weapons and armor wise
Any armor can work, depends if you want bit more armor from bronze armor or either bear or troll armor for no movement speed penalty.
Weapon wise, any weapon can be useful, but slash and blunt are bit better damage types for certain enemy mobs.
All matters of "should" are entirely up to your personal preferences and choices.
There is no correct way to play the game.
i enter the swamp and get 140 drained instantly with level 3 bear set so I was wondering if there was a better option
Better is subjecthive.
The "best" option is to not get hit -- and I am not saying that sarcastically.
prolly just gonna use a bronze helm instead so the berserk set bonus doesnt make me weak
Bronze Buckler and parrying does a lot of work.
ik i love parry
What's your food?
deer and boar stew with bear meat
Boar stew?
Personally would drop that for Carrot Soup, because running HHH is never advised.
But you should have no problem parrying everything.
i like health, stamina is easily regeneratable
More stamina = more hits before running out = more things killed before having to regenerate.
But that is, again, just my perosnal opinion on it.
What makes one eligible for the Odin dlc?
Being one of the original supporters.
It is no longer obtainable nor will it be.
original supporters? when was that cause I got the game in 2022 and wanted to know if I could get it, or was and just missed out
@lapis terrace would know the exact cutoff.
But I think it was people who played prior to the actual Steam release. I could be wrong though.
If you had it, you would know that you had it. So you're out here with the rest of us 🫂
The wiki says there was a code in email, ima check there rq and get back to you, if its not there than thanks for the effort.
Players who got Odin DLC participated in beta before the 2021 EA launch on Steam.
@acoustic drum @steep tusk last december 2020 was cutoff date for the free Odin DLC
💛
People who played and/or carried the word about our game before we went big public got the DLC.
All of those had signed up to test our game. Hence we had a way to send free DLC as a thank you
is bronze armor better than bear armor? i understand i get more defense with the bronze but with the berserk ability would bear be better?
Better is subjecthive.
If you, personally, read the stats and bonuses and feel Bear is better -- then Bear is better for you, personally.
This holds true for all armors and weapons.
i went on the wiki to see the list of all armors and it was in order by biome so i wasnt sure if the descending order also meant how strong they were
alright thanks
People have beaten the game on very hard with no armor, so when I tell you it comes down to what you, personally, feel like wearing -- I mean it 😄
dang, thank u
Also of note: your worn armor has no effect on your ability to block.
So if you're good at parrying, it even moreso makes armor "what you feel like."
Hello I've been struggling with getting past forwarding or firewall issues
I can't test it myself because I only have 1 desktop and it's easy for local host to work
If nobody can help, you could if possible turn your phone into a hotspot while connected to data not wifi and try to connect to the server while the pc is using your phone connection.
just curious, the "combat" slider is the one that affects how useful parrying is right?
because when i did a "hard" difficulty preset run, parrying got nerfed hard (it was pretty annoying, but i managed to beat the game)
It increases enemy damage which makes blocking/parrying much less effective and has other changes such as increased enemy size and speed
ok thanks, im gonna slide combat back to normal, because i dislike the nerfed parrying part, since it just makes killing most enemies without an overkill buckler shield such a tedious slog
Im alright with increased hp and damage but me having to get a buckler that is above 1 tier biome wise (like i need a leveled up silver buckler just to be able to parry trolls in black forest is 💀)
Alright with increased damage is alright with nerfed parrying. Nothing about the blocking calculations are changed.
But if block armor was multiplied with the damage increase you'd take exactly 50% more damage while parrying instead of much more
oh i guess the big shields are worth it in hard mode and above then? Im aware buckler parrying is extremely OP in this game, like sekiro style input but has dark souls level stagger duration when they get parried, so its kinda understandable
Tower shields are already weaker than other shields, and that difference would only be more extreme in higher difficulties
would medium shields be the best for hardmode and above?
I haven't played higher difficulties but I'd expect the bucklers to be better in most biomes when they're available. Keep in mind that when parrying, silver shield and black metal shield are stronger than iron buckler, but carapace buckler is stronger than flametal shield.
ah got it, also as someone who managed to get through hard mode, i noticed that i basically needed a buckler shield that is 1 biome tier above compared to the current biome im at in order to parry attacks from alot of enemies, which i didnt really like that much.
imo the buckler parry nerf aint it for me, im gonna go back to normal for now lol, ok time to start a new world for the new update 🫡
nah, I've been playing on hard as well and my black metal shield is doing just fine against fulings
If not higher difficulty then try something new weapon types you've either never or rarely played. 👍
it is kind of maxed out and I try to avoid parrying heavy blows from viles or loxes, though
those will always stagger no matter what, so you're right about the 1 biome up rule
In my opinion there's actually an objective answer to this:
If you're taking too much damage and dying, you need heavier armor.
So at BF/swamps we have Heavy > Light > Bear in terms of damage reduction (Bear actually causing a damage taken increase).
Keeping in mind that practically all damage in the game is avoidable: If you dodge and parry with 100% accuracy it makes sense to go with the lightest armor possible for its various other benefits.
If you're getting hit a lot, dying and losing skill points, you should move up to something heavier until you are progressing better
How tf am I ment to kill them bears 😭
use a torch they are scared of fire so they will run away from you and wont attack+ fire is their weakness or if you have a bronze axe use that just parry it with the axe hit it twice and wait for his next attack to parry
Never had the coordination to parry properly 😭 why I can never play sekiro
Slash weapons are better options against them, as they resist blunt and pierce but not slash. Fire arrows can work if necessary as fire is their weakness, but it can take time due to pierce resistance. Bears are perfect targets to train proper combat skills like dodge and parry and you are able to parry their weaker attacks (swipes with one paw) even with wooden shield.
In terms of difficulty, they are quite on par with trolls, having more HP and resistances but dealing bit less damage and having more variance in attacks, IIRC they have 5 different attacks.
Well, not all, but most I guess. (edit) I guess I misread, thought you were saying ALL that were signed up and played early got it, but you were saying everyone that did end up getting it had been signed up.
you could also parry their attacks if you have an iron shield...
they go down really smooth, I tell you
on the contrary, the torch actually makes it harder: they move around and some of your attacks miss, and generally you do base damage instead of double, which makes things really tedious
(didn't try the bronze buckler, but on Hard difficulty I doubt that's enough to parry their attacks)
You shouldn't need a future shield on hard. Almost every non-starred enemy is still able to be parried.
It comes down to Food.
Sincerely,
Man who wrote the blocking sheet.
I see, I haven’t played a souls game before so the dodging and parrying is pretty new to me but I’ve gotten the hang of dodging. Once I understand how to parry I’ll see how well I fare in game and make my decision based on that. Thank man 🙏
Armor still boils down to whichever you, personally prefer.
Always will.
Is there any way to dismantle items and get the resources back?
No, there is no such feature.
That's a real shame.
I am tired of farming metal in the swamps.
Did you accidentally craft another pair of something?
No, I just don't need certain things anymore because I got better stuff.
Ah, right.
You can put them on item stand for decoration and also for having the backup gear in case you need them again.
to be honest, at some point mining becomes kind of like a zen experience. Just yesterday I came back home with a longship AND cart on top full of assorted metals
If you have 100 elemental magic and run Jormundling, does it go 2 120 or is the cap 100?
Levels don't exceed over 100.
hey, what armor do you think is best to use with krom? does it have sufficient blocking ability to use the vile bear or is it not worth it compared to padded
Considering at the time you are in mistlands, you could use carapace 😄
carapace helmet, root chestplate and vile leggings i think would be the best in the mistlands but if your going to ashlands full carapace would be best
But you can use pretty much any armor that works for you and you like it 😄 nobody can tell you what to do
ah yeah i forgot about it since we don't have refined eitr yet, alr
Carapace helmet with Vilebone chest and legs is nice, went with them to Ashlands in my latest run.
at some point you might die and you can use old gear to recover newer gear
why can''t i craft crossbow? i have all the mats and the workbench is level 2
Everyone who signed up to test the closed beta in 2020 got a key sent back to them.
They didn't have to get accepted in. Only sign up
Try some other stack of iron, sometimes stacks can get bugged
Help with a problem: when you appear in the world, the camera constantly spins, and you can't do anything. No mods
A bit more effective a bit less effective I'd say
On higher difficulty parrying is better because it negates more damage, stopping you from getting oneshot
But yea doesn't matter as much because often times on higher difficulty it won't let you successfully parry
Looks like he is on a ledge above the meat?
Did it start taming before dawn?
We've got it going now, we were just confused since it was a night spawn and not taming but we're getting hearts now and are waiting
